Galaxy S5 Sprint Official Marshmallow update Review - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

Hey everyone,So today it was officially announced on Sammobile that Sprint is the First US giant to release the Marshmallow Goodies to it's Samsung S5,Surprisingly it released it before samsung has started the rollout on the International version G900F and G900H....I was one of the lucky ones to recieve the update and made a video review.....The rom is amazing and Fast but unfortunately no theme engine,so i guess we'll have to wait until someone ports it....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kgNOnFJkaw
And here is the Performance Review and Benchmark Test video of the Marshmallow update....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocstfG13ecQ

Is there any information if theme engine will also change the look of the phone pad?
I love the phone pad as it looks at Kit-Kat, if I can have this at Marshmallow too? then this it would make make me really happy.

The layout on something's have changed, the phone app dials like the lollipop interface did. If that helps

You should odin a stock firmware and then update. Or wait for the odin ics firmware to be uploaded to www.sammobile.com!

Woho! I don't know much about the nuts and bolts of developing/hacking a custom ROM together - but is it safe to assume we'll be able to finally get the ICS drivers for the Tab 10.1 out of this and apply it to CM9/AOKP/etc?

Not yet,
I have kept my tab stock and will do so until the official ics is out. I just checked before making this post.
When I get it, I'll update here unless someone else beats me to the punch like the Canadian 3.2 update.
Regards.
Edit. In Canada the Rogers tabs recieved 3.2 before the wifi only models....grumble! So someone with a Canadian 4g model may want to check as well.

does it matter if the wifi only tab is rooted only or not? I haven't received any updates but only thing I did to it was root it.

Unfortunately just Samsung releasing the an ICS rom for our tabs won't fix in a single thing in cm9 until Samsung releases the kernel source code that they have to by law(GPL licencing). This kernel source code is what will allow developers to get the camera working on cm9. Samsung seems to release the source code within a couple of weeks after an official rom release. Which sounds bad, but unfortunately Samsung is one of the fastest companies to release source code, some can take months. Even with the source code, to get the camera to work on cm9 will take a lot of effort to do, it's not just as simple as dragging and dropping something and could take a little to a lot of time to fix. With out this source code, an official ICS rom is meaningless for development of cm9. In other words even after we get ICS from Samsung, we still have a long and bumpy ride. I hope this helps you
connected to kies and no update was found....sad face
Got my hopes up for nothing almost time to root agen
I have a completely stock "4G" rogers tab and nothing so far.
Thanks for the quick updates everyone! I'm hoping to get this before my trip on wednesday but I probably shouldn't hold my breath.
I currently have a CM9 kang on here, if I follow the overcome instructions to get back to stock, will that leave me with stock US or is it generic? What differentiates the two models?
Cheers

I just got an update on my WiFi Tab 10.1, but it's not ICS... it says Android 3.2. The update gave me a new back button (it's curved now) and a new app called AllShare. Was this an update that I totally missed that came out earlier? When did it come out?
Also, when ICS does come, will I get it sooner OTA or via Kies?
Damn Canadians!!! lol jk
saw an update after engadgets news about ics update, was excited until i realized it is not ics its just 3.2 after it finished update
Damn this thread! It is making me restore my backup I made in anticipation of ICS lol

100% I agree with you! Samsung brings out new phones left and right just to be able to corner the market! Anyway as I said you don't have to wait for Samsung for updates- THAT IS THE REASON WHY YOU ARE HERE IN XDA! To Take advantage of the (free) MODs of folks like Balliboxer, k2wl, Chuto222, and others who give us S4 features on the grand.

I'm sure our handset can handle 4.2.2 really well.
I've used CM before, on my Galaxy W and Tab 2 7.0, but I still missed the look and feel of stock ROM, so I reverted back and just rooted, and froze some useless apps with Titanium backup. I had no problem with how CM runs, it's really fast and smooth, but it's the bugs that I can't live with. I guess there are some users out there who are like me, and that's why they're hoping for an official upgrade (that we could always root).
I really don't care about Samsung. I'm just waiting CM to be fairly working (at least the 2 SIM) with i9082.

I've tried 4.2 on another device and there's nothing there that 4.1 doesn't have, except 1-2 cosmetic stuff in the notification panel.
Touch wiz? A crappy launcher! Third part launcher are much better, highly customizable, icons changing, gestures etc.
Instead of 4.2 it would be much nicer to have a real floating multi windows mod as I requested in the apps and themes sections, cuz this is a REAL improvement.
But 4.2, bah, you're wasting your time guys...
We'll Get the Update.
Now we can do only one thing-
That is to Wait.

S5 Touchwiz UI for S4?

Is there any chance that Samsung will officially update the Touchwiz UI on S4 to match that of Galaxy S5?
While new Android versions have continued to be released for Galaxy S4, the UI has hardly changed. Even Note 3 has a different Touchwiz than S4.
HTC on the other hand has committed to releasing the new Sense 6 for the old HTC One. :good:

Hopefully they do, theres no real reason not to, other than they want more people to buy the S5 than hang on to their S4.
The S3 got some of the S4 features/change when it got the last update to 4.3, so we should see some further changes, but probably not for a while as @modyt suggests.

Yes, I had read about the updates that came to S3 with the JB 4.3 update. But if Samsung is waiting to push UI changes with a new Android version update I think it will be quite a while (December 2014 or later may be).
@modyt - Thanks for those links. If I have to root then I am looking forward to CM ROM. Hopefully the sound bug will be solved by then.

Thats true, 4.4.3 looks like it is being tested at the moment by Google, so could be rolling out in the next month or so (obviously a bit longer to reach non-Nexus devices). Then there will be Google I/O in June (?) time, with the possibility of another update then. The next update could be around October/November when the Nexus 6 is likely to be released. Either way a lot of the S5 stuff has already been hacked to work on our S4, so if you're happy to go down the unofficial route for now you can.

HTC One M7 got the new sense 6 :good: & this is really cool from HTC where updates for their UI is released in no time, but for Samsung they are really taking so so long for official updates !!!!!
That really let me feel so bad about Samsung, they just know how to release new smartphones but then they forget to update it.

[Q] Is there android L rom for s4 in future

Hello everyone, recently it was announced Android L and are eager to try it but the first beta are for nexus 5 and 7. My question is this: do you know if it will come out ROM with android L for S4?
Thanks in advance
yes, as it rolls out it will be ported to the s4 and eventually it will be built from aosp for the s4. You might even get a version of Android L TouchWiz in time.

if officially you ask. maybe, perhaps the last major update the s4 will get.
Someone is already porting Android L to the S4. So right now we just have to be patient.

Who? link please
Samsung is really so bad regarding updates they are the worst, Korean OEM's in general doesn't care about their customers and the update operation goes really very slow and bad.
look to Sony & HTC, they are really fast, some Sony models got the Kitkat 4.4.4, HTC promise to deliver the Android L after 90 days from official release with continuous update to the current smartphones Sense UI, the HTC One M7 & M8 got the latest Sense UI, but look at the Galaxy S4 owners still no new TouchWize UI, Samsung doesn't respect their customers, they just knew how to release new smartphone every few seconds and directly forget all about it as it is not exist.
Before Android L can someone tell me when we will get the new UI and the 4.4.4 ?!

Grace UX has appeared on my Note 5 via OTA (Stock Firmware)

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has actually noticed this already, or if it's actually a new thing. Long story short, I've been missing the Galaxy Note 7 since returning it to Samsung a few weeks back, and today sprung for a used Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920K) that was actually a decent price and in basically brand new condition. All the more so given that the hardware never even released here in Japan to begin with.
Anyway, after setting up the device, an OTA began to download. The Note 5 was at the time, running 6.0.1 and had the August Android Security Patch installed. The file download was in excess of 600MB however, and I thought something to be odd given that the September and October patches, even together, couldn't be that large. When the phone rebooted, I was absolutely floored to find none other than the Note 7's Grace UX on the phone. This *includes* the Bluelight Filter in Display Settings for reference, something even the S7 Edge has yet to receive.
When I had checked SamMobile earlier, the update details hadn't even been listed in their firmware, making me wonder if this was just released today? For reference it's Baseband Version N920KKKU2CPI1 and Build MMB29K.N920KKKU2CPJ4. Oddly the Kernel Version has a build date of October 24th.
Have I missed something in the past few weeks of Note-worthy news, or is this a major development?
I can take screen captures if anyone wants to see.
Please post screen shots.

This is not a common practice by Samsung, for my experiences with numbers of Samsung flagship models, it doesn't even give a facelift Ui for any of its update firmwares, you want new ui then you have to buy a new device, that's it. !!!
I guess tokyoguy may just be very lucky or Samsung has made a mistake by accident.

Well the thing is that Samsung is currently working on bringing Grace UX to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge via the Nougat update. So in this case the company is clearly intending to port the design changes. What I'm trying to figure out is if (1) there was some kind of mistake and I did, in fact, get lucky, (2) all the Korean carrier variants have had this update pushed to the devices, or (3) this update has been floating around for a few weeks now and just no one mentioned it.

Well it certainly is real, the question is if it's some kind of mistake and I alone got it, or if all the Korean carrier variants are getting it.
Its officially released by samsung as usual they release it for in the home country n later they push in other countries so chill guys all the variants of note 5 will be getting the update
I think the blue light filter is restricted to note after note 7 fiasco samsung is taking more care of their customers
It was posted on Android Development section a week ago, you can even flash in different model.

What about Spen? Any changes? Thanks!
The S-pen settings have been, from what I can tell, changed to those from the Note 7. This means, among other things, that's it's now not possible to modify the sound file played when the stylus is removed or inserted; I never cared for the default option unfortunately.
