I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this, but every time I reboot the phone and then select an app to open something, it always make that app the default. The only issue is, before I rebooted it, it was the default I had selected previously.
Is anyone else having this issue? I think it actually happened with my S4 too on 5.0.1.

Just hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.
I flashed to 3.01 US stock from UK in order to get the updates. I updated twice to 3.2.
What I'm noticing now is that if I click on a link, that launches an associated app (browser for instance), I used to get a screen jump up and ask which app I wanted to use. So if I'd installed Firefox, Dolphin and got Stock, it would give me the option if I hadn't yet set a default.
Since 3.2 when I click the link, the screen fades out, but the options aren't showing to select which means I can't launch the link/app.
The fix is to uninstall any relevant applications until I only have one app that can launch said link, then reinstall, and I get the option again.
Anyone had this or know how to fix without reinstalling everything?

I had the problem I hope u didn't set Firefox or dolphin as ur default browser what I did was erase all data now I have dolphin and the default drowser all working fine here

This issue has been discussed, but there are two simple ways to solve it without having to reinstall everything.
1) Simply wait and eventually it will fix itself. I know this sounds strange but it will eventually work. I am not generally patient so this one did not work for me.
2) With Autorotate ON, simply rotate the Xoom so that it has to redraw the "picker" screen. Do this when the screen dims and nothing is showing up. I have found that once you do this once for any particular file type you do not need to do it a second time.
I too was reinstalling apps to get the screen to show up, but even that did not always work.
I had the same problem and it seemed to only manifest itself after I re-installed all my apps from Tiamat/Xoom Zone with Titanium Backup. I'm not sure which app was the culprit but after uninstalling Scripter and aLogcat it started working perfect.

Will certainly check these options out. Are you saying that in the first instance, when the screen dims.,...if I left it long enough, it would appear?
Has this been put to Google on their Bugs page,....as Bugs go...it's an annoying one
The Asus Transformer has the exact same problem. makes me think it could be more of a HC3.2 bug now after seeing this thread than device related.
Worse after you think you have fixed the problem every time you turn the device off and then on again on the problem begins again if you have multiple apps that can load a file or link like a web browser (I use multiple). If you have one app or set one app to be the default then you don't have the problem ....with that file or link

Factory reset will not fix this . Other browsers , media players and file managers somehow cause the problems .

I updated my S5 LTE+ to Android 5.0.
All is doing well, but one thing make me crazy. I can't set default application and don't find the reason.
Every time I push the home button I get asked which launcher I wanna use and I set the one I want for every time. But after a while I get asked again - but didn't delete the setting or used the other launcher.
Yes I can uninstall the second one, but it is the kid mode app which I like for my kids.
Does somebody know where the default app setting is stored? Possible a rights problem there? Possible I can reset the place where settings are stored...?!
I have root and good shell/Linux knowledge.

I had the same bug with 5.0, couple updates and it's better but not fixed
You might want to factory reset too if you updated from KK to LP, fixes a lot of issues

I did a complete reset before and after flashing. But this setting must also stored somewhere. So that u can simulate a mini reset.
I've been having an issue where every time I try to create a new album in gallery it gives me a "file name already exists" no matter what name I give it or where I try to put it. So I was going to freeze the gallery app and unfreeze it to see if that helped and when I went to Ti back up I found out my phone wasnt rooted any longer... I've done no updates recently nor have I deleted anything or changed any settings. Has any one ever come across this? Only thing I've done is update apps and a few samsung apps. Knox is disabled and it appears as if supersu has been deleted. Any body ever heard of anything like this? I'm baffled...

I have had my Nexus 6P for 5 days, and it has decided to do something weird when I switch apps. The phone is still stock, no adblockers installed and I've tried restarting and clearing the cache through stock recovery. The shrinking animation of the currently opened app stutters and the right half of the shrinking window/card goes pixelated. The same happens during the embiggening animation after selecting an app to switch to. I made a video of the issue here. When I tried to make a better video with a screen recording app, the problem went away. As soon as I stop the screen recording app, the problem comes back. My brother also has the 6P, and he says he's never seen his do this. Has anyone else seen this?

Maybe its just due to one app

Thanks, I think I will try a factory reset on Sunday when I have time to re-setup my phone. Another interesting tidbit is that when I enable the option "Disable HW Overlays" in developer options, the problem goes away. I'm guessing this might be related to why the problem also goes away when trying to use a screen recording app. Some app somewhere is not overlaying correctly I guess...

That's the prob its a one rogue app
Does anyone know what's going on here? I reset to manufacturer settings, use swyft or Gboard and still the same thing happens no matter what app I installed first. So I don't think it's a foreign app that is causing this to happen. Any additional advice will help. Thank you.
This example shows Clash Royale after using Gboard (Google a keyboard) which doesn't happen on any of my other devices with the same exact apps installed.
Using stock 7.1.2
I find it hard to believe this hasn't happened to anyone else on any other device. It almost disables my phone at times.

It might be some sort of accessibility setting on 7.1.2 to make it easier to read what you are typing. I only ran 7.1.2 for a couple of days but I never noticed anything like that. I would go through all the settings and see if anything is enabled that appears to be pertinent to your issue. It sure looks like an intentional feature rather than a bug.
