Im looiking to eventually ROOT and want to know whats the best app out there to backup my contacts. I figured out after all my contacts were put in to save them as google and now i cant go back and change. I always used PIM backup on WM phones. Do they make an android app?
what is wrong with using google for contacts backup ?
I liked Titanium Backup so much I donated to unlock all the stuff. Let me just say... being able to fully restore apps with 1 click is awesome And by 1 click, I mean I tap 1 button and it restores all 40+ apps I have backed up.

i may be wrong, but I dont believe this does a backup of contacts. Mybackup Pro does however. You can also recover homescreen settings as well with this

Found this post using Google, pretty much sums it up:
1 - Open Ti Backup
2 - Select the 'Backup/Restore' tab
3 - Select the 'menu' button to bring up some options in this tab
4 - Select 'Batch' (there a bunch of pre-programmed choices)
5 - Option 3 <RUN> 'Backup all user apps+system data'
6 - This will open another window where you can view all the items that are going to be backed up one of which is 'CONTACTS/CALLS' among a bunch of other items.
7 - Select 'Run Operation' at the top and the backup will start
8 - Be sure to copy the contents to your local machine HD for safe keeping
For Titanium Backup Restore:
- Repeat steps 1-4 to advance to the batch menu
5 - Select option 9 on the list <RUN> 'Restore missing apps+ all system data

just add all of your contacts to gmail and the phone will sync and add them automatically. you will never need to manually backup your contacts again.
My backup pro for sure. The home screen settings didn't seem to restore for me though.

Another vote for Titanium Backup. The Donate version is incredible, and I'd be lost without it. Otherwise it would be nearly impossible to restore all 130 of my apps with data and Market links.
I thought titanium backup was only for rooted phones. And with Google, I found out u can save that way acre my contacts were transfered. When making a new contact u have the option of making it a Google contact so that it will sync. Unless I'm missing something.

TB is only for rooted users. As soon as you root I suggest jumping on it.

+1 for Titanium Backup Paid Version. Totally worth the $5 bucks to back everything up.
Some say MyBackup Pro is less capable than Titanium. What does Titanium do that MyBackup Pro doesn't other than uninstalling applications?
Gmail’s contacts. I like to flash customs roms, so I have to wipe my phone all the time. With Gmails contacts all I need is to log into my account and its sync all my information immediately.

But what about your apps?!
I'm using TB Pro and loving it thus far. It only seems to backup my contacts and apps though. Wish it would also backup my settings, but I guess there would be conflicts with changing ROMs and especially changing firmware since setting options might change.

Anybody know of a program that will restore widgets to their respectful place after a wipe, or upgrade. Kinda getting tired of placing each and every widget each time I wipe. Thanks in advanced.

Desktop systems app? Where can I find it? And can you elaborate on being "careful" restoring. Thanks.

There is no way to really, consistently, do what you're asking, thanks to the limitations of the Android system.
Maybe someone could figure out a way to export "scenes" to the SD card then you could just save your scene, flash a new sense rom and have everything back how you had it.
I'm just brainstorming, I have no clue if "scenes" can be exported
MyBackup Pro sort of does it. It has a function specifically for restoring homescreens but does not work perfectly.

There's a system app named HTC SENSE: DESKTOP. It stores your desktop config. Restoring system apps from one rom to another can cause issues. I'm not sure of specific issues cuz I usually only restore WiFi access points.

I use this cool thing called pen and paper. It lets you write down where everything is on the home screen. Then when you restore, you can look at the "paper" part, to figure out where everything goes. Isn't that cool?

Or you could take a screenshot of each screen then put those on your computer and look at them while you're restoring your screens. None of this "paper" business... whatever "paper" means.

You can't. Just remember where your widgets are or take screens if you really have that many.
Or take a screenshot of each home screen? If rooted, of course.
Just noticed someone mentioned this idea already.

I think it's supposed to be in the market, but I haven't been able to find it.
+1 for screenshots though
I found out by accident that if I back up all apps and data with Titanium Backup and then flash whatever... when I restore with Titanium my apps come back but I also discovered that when I power off and then power back on my previous personal scene and apps and widgets all return to where I had them.
I think that is what is being asked.
Hi guys. We are in times of crazy rom updates, and when you update making a wipe, one of the big problems is you lose the icons order in the app list. I don't mean to icons in the home/launcher else icons in the general list of apps.
I know how to save the home icons and widgets disposition but is there any way to save/backup the order of the app list? I don't like alphabetical order or things like that, i personalize myself and is a pain in the ass do it every time i do i wipe to upgrade a rom.
I have been searching in the forums but didn't find anything.
Thanks
please anybody?
This would be amazing!
But in the meantime I normally screenshot every page before updating and save then onto the pc then I copy the order, it's not great but it works for now
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Yep, but the order has to be saved in some system file, it must be there. It's annoying no one knows what file is :-(

the icon order and page layouts are stored in the app data of TwLauncher. you can backup its data with titaniumbackup and restore it later on. but be adviced that there might be side effects when restoring the data of an older rom in a new one.

i guess you need to restore it after you restored all apps. if you restore the apps later on, their position won't be the same. at least i don't recall any problems with the applist order on my phone, and i make heavy use of folders.

I think it does, because when I wipe TwLauncher data the icon layout is lost and when I restore it they are where I put them. Maybe if TwLauncher is different between the roms it does not work? Anyway, the layout must be somewhere in the appdata, I think it is in the launcher.db file (/data/data/com.sec.android.app.twlauncher/databases/launcher.db), you can view it with Root Explorer's internal SQL viewer -> menu_item
Good luck!

Hmm... this seems strange. I've done the exact same thing and haven't lost my folders and icon order through three rom updates. Just make sure you backup the data of "TwLauncher" in Titanium before you flash. On restore make sure you only restore data for TwLauncher and as heldchen said restore all your apps first.
P.S.: Just to be on the safe side: you do mean the order of the icons in the app drawer and not something else?
Crackflashers do full wipe many times, so I guess they are expert at backup-ing apps. I'm currently using Go backup, not go backup ex.
What other apps do you use?
I know stormbird backup, titanium, go backup, miui backup.. what else are you using?
Hi!
I also use Go Backup!
I was using titanium by the past, but really like the ability to restore all my apps & things without any prompt!

Isnt there a simple app to just backup ur data n apps?

Rom toolbox can do this also. Honestly, I never backup my data. If I do backup, I only backup the apps to save me some download time. Over the last few years of using Android I've learned that most apps really just aren't important enough for me to even install so it's not a big deal to me.

Anyone able to backup gmail app data? Using TiBk, it just backs up the app, but when restoring, none of the settings are preserved. Really inconvenient if I want to change between different roms.
Also any way to backup system data like ringtones, sound, display settings?

???What?? they are synced to your account. What settings are you talking about? If it is general settings it takes like 2 sec. to check the box. I have never used TB for Gmail. Just get it from Play or it is in GAPPS.
You don't want to restore system settings between ROM'S, it will generally ef up the new one. Things don't necessarily mix well.

Choose: Backup -> All User Apps + System Data
full flash will change the Device ID? ... Yes it will .. using this same app you can .. even if you have 2 step Account on. ..Restore the device id .. then you can have the login of the Google Account back as well !!
Hope this helps...

Don't just restore all data and go through them one by one. Restore only data for user apps installed from the Play Store. The likelihood is your phone messed up because you overwrote some system data.

I did restore some system data but they showed up as green in TB so I thought it was safe (like calendar, contacts, SMS/MMS, wi-fi access points). I will try again and only restore user apps with data. A few apps did not restore at all though (like FB, official Twitter), weird.
I hope I can sort this out. Otherwise, I'm gonna sell the phone.

Here's the problem, I can't see files backed up to that directory. It seems as if they're being filtered from my view. Isn't there an issue with the way USB works such that it's not giving access to all the files, just the multimedia ones?
I use an app called DataSync to sync app data between phones. I've had no problems transferring app data between my HTC Rezound and my Nexus 4. I use dropbox as my storage area, you then upload old data from old phone to dropbox and then download it from dropbox to new phone. You select which apps to sync, the repository, then which direction to sync, very simple to use.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quintstoffers.DataSync&hl=en
I used adb backup & restore to move content from my unrooted One X to my N4.
There's an issue with MTP that directories don't show up right away. There's workaround for other phones or if you install CM 10, but I don't think there's a way to get back to USB Mass Storage on stock Jelly Bean.
Ok so it turns out it WAS one of system settings in green that messed up the phone. My problem is it's actually the SMS/MMS backup, which is apparently tied to the phone app (the HTC one since my backup is from the Evo 3D). I'm not sure how to restore these. I know I can do SMS with SMS Backup & restore but it doesn't do MMS. Any app out there that can save & restore both?

Use the backup./restore XML feature in titanium backup it does SMS and mms including pictures
As a rule of thumb avoid restoring any system data from differing make phones or across android roms/versions.

This, and it b/u's up your sdcard as well, just do this after you unlock your bootloader if that's in the works.
I found letting it try and backup the shared storage caused me a bunch of problems, so I told it to skip that and copied the bits I needed myself.

Yeah I get your point. I'm usually super careful but green options are supposed to be safe to restore but, as it turns out, they're not really.
Use SMS Backup & Restore from the Play Store, it's free and good.
