Marshmallow 6.0.1 security update released, April 2016 (MMB29X) - Nexus 6 General

Available at:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#shamu
At a minimum it should fix the CVE-2015-1805 vulnerability. If you see any other changes post here.
The bootloader and the radio are the same as mmb29v.

I'm not seeing that under Shamu Firmware. There is some stuff for it under Binaries, but not Firmware.
UPDATE:
Its showing up now.

This should be the list of the patches in this update. It's the April security bulletin.

MMB29X
Hey all. Ive been off the scene since July. I finally got my replacement N6. As soon as I turned it on, It had this update rarin to go so I installed it. Is this going to have any effect on unlock, root, custom recovery? I ask because it is brand new stock untouched other than the update.
Thanks Fellas

So, I was on the 6.0 Build for a long time but finally decided it was time to update. I moved up to this build and have had some issues. Before I just replaced the Hosts file to get ad blocking. But with the 6.0.1 builds the System is full. Easy workaround was creating a symlink to a hosts file that is placed in /sdcard/ But in this build it seems like it isn't doing any ad blocking. Anyone have any ideas why?
Thanks
Basically I have 3 wants aside from stock, I don't root so I can keep Android Pay, I want ad-blocking, and edit the Build.prop to net.tethering.noprovision=true

Hello all. Has anyone gotten V4A to work with this latest update? I flashed the latest version and ended up locked at the Google Screen. Thank God for backups.

No, its a Nexus. But look into the new SuperUser by Chainfire, it is systemless now. So version 2.67 or higher. Also the system partition is full now. You cant write to it without deleting a couple of items first like unused keyboards.

I have seen so many new versions of Viper, and as I said in my previous post I turned on my phone from brand new, fast boot, unlocked bootloader and rooted. I installed TWRP, version 3001. So at this moment I am stock rooted with TWRP version MMB29X. Can anyone kindly point me to the best and correct TWRP flashable version of Viper? Without V4A, I feel like I have half a phone. Thanks to anyone who can give me a hand. Peace guys.

First, plug phone into computer, and install updater software from the phone that is on the device in 'Installer Mode'. Take the download on the PC, then follow directions below, and you can still have root after.

Hi again,
I installed the upgrade assistant in installer mode but for some reason it is not picking up the new NE9 update on my computer. See attached print screen. Very strange.. It sees the update on my phone to download though.:cyclops: Do you know why this is and how I can get it to see the update on the upgrade assistant as you mentioned?
Kind Regards
Can you explain why you want the update so bad? You do realize that rooting and accepting official otas is completely contradictory, correct? OTAs are generally what fix things like what towelroot exploits. If you accept official OTA, you will likely lose root.
But can't I just re root after the ota? I guess the reason I want the Ota because I heard of camera enhancements and stability fixes

No. OTA have patches for known security flaws as well. The flaw that towelroot relies on is closed after the new OTA. Meaning, no more root.
edit: in this case I believe folks have figured out a work around for keeping root with the update. In general though, if you value root and what it provides you do not accept official releases.

@ks3rv3rg I believe the links mentioned above provide a workaround for the Root to be kept after updating.
As for the problem nick, I can't help you there. I haven't personally take it as I see taking OTA's is silly with a rooted phone you can modify to be much more. Perhaps someone else who has done it will chime in...
Thank you both for your perspectives.. Plus, I can always just wait for a ROM that currently has the update installed.

For reasons that haven't been specified yet, the builds labeled MOB30D have been removed from the Nexus Factory Image page.

I haven't flashed it either. I assume the found a bug.

I still haven't flashed it but have been listening to some Mobb Deep. MOB30D!
Anyone having issues with this release? Debating whether or not to flash my unit. I notice that the Nexus 7 WiFi has binary files available with a MMB29X release.
This is interesting....found this link on Sprint's website: https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/1038775
Almost seems like MMB30D was suppose to have been the mid-March security release.
Features/Enhancements:
•Revision of March Android Security Update to include new fixes
For those who flashed this MMB30D onto the Nexus 7, what is the date in ABOUT PHONE. Is it April 1 or April 2?

The last image for the Nexus 7 2013 razor that I see is still MMB29V.
So much for Google being responsive in getting security updates out. I would have thought that after making a big deal out of that mid-March kernel fiasco that they would have fixed and re-released the images for the three devices that they pulled for whatever reason on Monday. It's now the weekend and no explanation or update from Google. Why am I not surprised?

And today they start working again, but still not displayed in the list.
I just factory defaulted my Nexus 7 (2013) device and installed this new factory image (MOD30D). Once I logged into my Google account, I got an email that I successfully logged into a Nexus 7 (2102).......2012??? WTF?
I wonder if there is/was an issue with the image's fingerprint where it would think that the 2013 model is actually a 2012 model.
Builds MOB30D for both models Nexus 7 2013, finaly, available in the list.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
These builds are uploaded again to nexus pages. And include a lots of bug fixes.

These monthly updates while obviously a good thing, there also kind of a pain in the ass. Every month I have to flash the new image, re-root the phone, use Titanium Backup, to go in and delete enough from sys partition, to flash Xposed, followed by flashing my beloved ElementalX kernel. Unless there is some way to streamline all that, a noob like me isn't aware of. Presumably we got just a couple weeks till the May security update anyway. I'll wait.

Systemless root with 6.0.1

Hey guys,
Anyone using systemless root with any versions of 6.0.1? I am still on 6.0.0 because I did not find a systemless root version except the original one posted on chainfire's site from late last year. I know the version of the systemless root matters as the kernel version matters for it to build the correct boot image.
I am not asking how to do it, just if anyone has successfully done this and which files (file names would be nice, so I can google 'em) did you use, to do it.
I have done a ton of searches all over the place and can not find one way or the other out there.
I don't want to hear a bunch of systemless vs non-systemless root stuff, please.
Thanks!
Hello old friend! I don't see many folks from the Atrix2 around anymore.

Hey meekrawb thanks for the info. I went to chanfire's site an took a look and the only boot image for the 6P is the mb08k image, which is the 6.0.0 release, and not a boot image for the later releases including the newer 6.0.1. I am guessing that since it is the boot image that the actual release verision is arbitrary, but just want to be sure. I plan on trying it anyhow as I can just flash a proper image if it gets into a bootloop.

You don't need those special boot images anymore. When you flash the zip it automatically patches your boot.img.

I joined this forum on 21-02-2011 when I received the first Atrix 4G.

Just got a software update

Looks to be some type of security updates.
Just popped on mine. Installed the update.
Matches this Software Version: MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPG2
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-note-4-update/
Kernel 3.10.40
Android Version 6.0.1
Android Patch Level September 1,2016
Baseband Version N910VVRU2CPG2
Will this update break Foxfi for Verizon Note 4?
Anyone know if PG2 does anything to the bootloader to prevent rolling back?

It appears to be a boot.img update. Flashfire rejected it as a safe OTA and I proceeded to freeze System Updates with Titanium Backup to eliminate future notifications. A bootloader update for sure.
Hopefully someone can tell if it's locking the bootloader down to prevent downgrading or the bootloader unlock method. Is there a way to freeze the update prompts if I'm not rooted yet? Just got the phone and haven't had a chance to unlock and root this bad boy.

buy package disabler. it is well worth the $1 price tag
Use Debloater, then freeze SDM.apk.
Root not required, very easy.
No, it does not break Foxfi.

I'm relatively new here, with regard to uploads. I am on a vzw Note 4, running Jasminerom 7.0, with an unlocked bootloader. I don't even have an SDM, as it wasn't present on the ROM, however I found a post for shutting off Samsung updates that required shutting off two system update modules, and one or two other software and security modules. I'm beginning to think Samsung is in collusion with the carriers to make our phones obsolete, and prevent further mods. If you let me know how and where to upload to you, I can send you the file, if you still want it.

I just downloaded and installed the open beta 2 and it's great! I'm going to give it a week and "test the engine and tires." I still have my Pie firmware, just in case.
NOTE: I installed using the local update method. I was rooted also with pie.

No 'build version does not match hardware version' error when flashing the new beta to TMO converted one plus 6t. I used TWRP 3.3.1.28 and all is good.
We still don't have the "reserve" partition though. OnePlus fonts will be missing and show up as italic fonts. A few apps are also gone but can be installed from play store. You wont pass Safety net so you will miss out on Netflix, etc.
No F/C's. Not sure on battery yet.
Everything else does seem good! I am enjoying it!

I used patched MSM tool to get TMobile variant to international ROM without unlocking bootloader and then I local upgraded to Android 10 stable, then local upgraded to OB 2 and all is well!
So I'm on Android 10 Stable with bootloader unlocked. What happens if I relock bootloader? Will I go into bootloop on restart, and will it get rid of the warning on restart, or do I need to do what @bigmikey307 did?
Update : I did the above but didn't go to beta 2

for beta you need to flash via local update since you're on the official update yet. link is on the beta thread or on the Oxygen Updater app from playstore

I just meant I stopped at 10.0 and didn't local upgrade to beta yet
Any word on the Play Protect Certification issue on T-Mo devices? I've been getting by without it on the Stable release, but I'll definitely go Beta of this update resolves the issue.

Nope, not certified. Someone posted some links in the Official Stable thread with instructions on how to do it using root and some magisk modules.

So like @Scott Mentioned, it requires root to pass at the moment. The Magisk mod is called Magiskhide props config and it works perfectly well as a workaround. Good luck!

I'm probably overlooking something obvious but I have no idea what it is.
Here's the story; I have a T-Mobile OP6t converted to International.
Flashed the update to OB31 (Open Beta 2).
I have Magisk and Titanium Backup installed, both with root access allowed.
However, I'm unable to get TB to actually uninstall some of the system apps I don't want.
Also, I can't copy and paste (via Solid Explorer) my edited HOSTS file to block ads.
What am I missing?

We still don't have the "reserve" partition though. OnePlus fonts will be missing and show up as italic fonts. A few apps are also gone but can be installed from play store. You wont pass Safety net so you will miss out on Netflix, etc.
No F/C's. Not sure on battery yet.
Everything else does seem good! I am enjoying it!

The OP Weather app for instance, the OP square and round icon packs, e few more that I dont recall. All of them could be downloaded from the play store. You only need the font fox magisk module referenced earlier in this thread. You wont notice these missing apps on a dirty install but you will see it on a clean install or factory reset.
Reinstalling the ROM ZIP via in-built updater fixes the issue. Done it multiple times.
