S7 front camera, seriously out of focus! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

As anyone else also found out, the front camera of S7 has serious focus issue. The front camera is a fixed focus lens, which means the distance between lens and CCD is fixed and can not be changed. The lens has very short focus lengh, like 1~2 mm. So most distance between object and lens can be considered as infinity. That's why such camera does not have focusing ablility. Which also means unless you change the hardware, the out of focus is not fixable by firmware.
This is a low level defect, which should never happen in a flagship cell phone such as S7. A camera has such issue mostly is wasted. We shall act and repot to Samsung asking for recall.
I had a chance to take a picture, comparing S7 with a Note 5. You can see the big difference.

Issue with the camera/camera app

See the attached pictures
Anyone have the same issue with pictures having weird pattern/marks?
Also there are lens flare on the third picture taken with oneplus 2. I took it again at the same position with my zenfone 2 without any lens flare problem, in fact i don;t have any lens flare issue like this with my zenfone2. It seems that one plus 2 camera is easier to have those lens flares maybe due its design (the distance between the glass, the lens and the sensor )??I don't know.... Im not familiar with optical physics..:p Is this a deflect with my camera or just a common issue with op2 camera?

It's common with ANY camera.
It all depends on the angle and distance between the glass that is used in the device.
You may not see it on your Zenfone 2 but given the right angle I can assure you it is there.. May not be as prominent but every camera has this.
My advice > Stop pointing the camera at light sources directly or shoot with RAW and post-process it out if you care that much.
Don't ask me how, Google it :silly:
Oh, forgot to mention you can try and cover the light glare using your hand above the camera but be sure to avoid making your hand visible in the shot and depending your angle and subject matter it may not be possible to do it anyway.
Like I said.. Best way to avoid it: Don't take pictures directly aiming towards light sources.
Thanks for your detailed explanation Stevels. I understand that lens flare is a common issue with any camera, what I want to express is it seems that one plus 2 camera is easier to have those lens flares maybe due its design (the distance between the glass, the lens and the sensor )??I don't know.... Im not familiar with optical physics..:p
Also with regrading to my 1st issue if you enlarge the first two pictures you can see weird pattern/marks on the sky, have you experience this before

Yeah, just a processing problem. Will probably be ironed out with future software updates.
To be honest I'm just waiting for CM12.1 to be released for the OPT.
Then I'll be grabbing the MaxxAudio and CameraNextMod apps and using those
Ordered my OPT a couple hours ago

Samsung Galaxy S5 front&back camera issue

I have a Samsung galaxy s5 and I'm having issues with front and back camera, the quality is too low same in the back and front camera I'm even getting watermarks on the front camera as you can see in this photo. The phone is not fake it's original the screen is quite scratched and the back camera case is also very scratched but I don't really think that's the reason I'm getting the quite-like 3mp camera quality lol.
Is there anyway I can fix this?
Marks on the camera lens would cause the spots all over the screen, they'll likely be tiny and maybe hard to see on the lens
Have you set the MP quality to max in the camera settings? (Cog at the top of your image)

Yes of course I did, it's 16MP.
I don't get the watermarks on the back camera, only on the front one.
The phone also has one problem: Sometimes it turns on normally, the sound of booting can be heard but it doesn't show any sign on the screen. Can this problem be fixed without changing the whole digitizer?
Well that's pretty obvious, if there are watermarks using one camera and not the other, then there are watermarks on one camera lens, and not the other... (Or a faulty front camera)

Front facing camera, distortion / long face

I know the S7 has a wide angle camera, and this is the result of long / narrow faces.
Or this is how it appears on mine.
Wondering if anyone has stumbled across any mods or anything?
I don't normally do selfies, but I just tried and wow!
Someone suggested taking the picture at arm length and cropping the picture, while this works, its not a solution for native apps that use the camera.
I.e. Snap chat etc.
Had anyone has the same experience and had any solutions or luck?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I asked myself the same question. Its cool to get more of the background on the picture, but for little bit closer takes it looks just stretched and unreal.
haha, well i have a rather round face.
But when i take a selfie using this camers, It looks like i have to eat for a few months. LOL!
Might work well for woman Samsung, But am not keen on looking as skinny as possible
Are you guys also expierencing with the front camera makes your face out of focus. Example if i take pictures with front camera my eyebrows, nose and beard is all blury and out of focus?
This kind of problem need more attention because ive heard that a lot of s7 and s7 edge users with this problem. Yet there is no update to fix this.

As another user suggested, Sounds like filters.
Samsung added a few, If enabled can remove wrinkles and marks from your face.
At the cost of looking plastic........ lol
Yes it may be a software fault, eventhough beauty mode is off it's still on somehow.
I know someone who complained it and they changed the camera, the fault was still present.
And my brother got fed up that this issue wouldn't get fixed so he ended up selling his s7 edge.
Could you guys try a selfie and look in the details of your eyebrows look how out of focus and blury it is, and details around hair, beard is oversaturated making the picture look distorted and poor.

Ill try some later and see the results.
I have only ever taken a couple of selfies.
TBH i hate looking at my own pics especially on the S7 edge lol!!!

Can you use the wide angle (back) camera to take selfies?

Hi all - it sounds like the front (selfie) camera does not take the best pics.
One of the uses I wanted for the G6 is to use the back camera (the wide angle one) to take selfies instead.
I won't be able to see the screen, but with the wide angle lens, I don't really need to do much framing I'm guessing.
The only thing that I'm concerned about is the lack of auto focus and if the wide angle camera can focus on subjects about 1 metre away from them.
Does anyone have a G6 who could comment / or post a sample pic of this? This is pretty much the dealbreaker for me to get this phone.
Cheers!
I'm interested in the same question! Would be great if anyone could comment on this, hence bumping this thread.
Yes. Front facing camera is not as good as it should be. Specially in low light situation...
This, and lack of LED notification light are the biggest flaw to me
Back cameras takes good selfies though. I don't have any problem with framing or autofocus. Does a good job with defocusing background and shaking effect is at minimum thanks to new image stabilizing system.
Hope this help you
Cheers
Someone here at xda calculated that all things between 35cm and infinity are in Focus for the wide angle camera.
I also made some tests and I think that he is not totaly wrong with his 35cm.
So taking selfies should be ok.

Problems with front camera

Hi, so I just bought a Redmi Note 7 (Global Version, 64/4), and I'm facing some issues especially with the front camera. In fact, it seems to be unable to focus, so when trying to take a selfie, even in a short distance, the picture is taken unfocused and blurry. Is this common or should I be thinking on getting a replacement? I'm also facing keyboard lag in the edges but I've read that it is a common problem in Xiaomi phones and it should be fixed in next updates. Thanks!
Most phones front facing cameras have a fixed focus distance. The sharpest focus is usually at an arm's length, try testing this with good lighting. As for the keyboard, I haven't had any problem with my phone.

after checking with goog lighting and some distance the pics come with good detail and focus, thanks for the advice!
As for the keyboard, I've seen many people complaining about the same, the letters next to the edges (q, a, p, l) lag as hell and writing fast is impossible. I think it should be a sofware error, because Pocophone suffered something similar, but I can't be sure
