I've always used Package Disabler Pro on all my phones for improved battery life.
This time I was getting worse battery life by disabling a bunch of stuff. Now, I'm keeping it simple and disabling most apps through Applications and using Package Disabler Pro for the following 5 apps/processes running in the background. See attachment.
I hope it helps. I'm getting awesome battery life.
Update: Please make sure you enable everything prior to accepting any OTA updates.

Thanks for this, I've always had rooted phones and just got my s7 edge today so I'm trying to figure out what workarounds to do for things I used to do with root. But just barely have had any time with it but very excited for my new device.

Does the att software update handle the OTA android updates for the device?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Seeing good results with a similar setup on mine. Out of the box was seeing about 5 sot, now 6 1/2 ish
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Disabling the gear vr services seems to add to more android system drain and almost 2 hours less SOT. Still testing this. Annoying since the gear vr service is constantly chugging along for some reason

I "love" how consistent these things are. The gear vr service has yet to show up in my power consumption lists. I haven't spent any significant time playing inside or watching video in vr yet, but it's all setup and configured and loaded and has been used *some* ... perchance do you have the Oculus auto-update enabled?

I actually haven't done anything with occulus as I don't have the headset yet. So I know that out of the box, the gear vr service is eating battery... I'd assume on all of our devices, since I've literally done nothing with oculus or gear VR yet.
Maybe the service is eating so little that its not worth worrying about. Also, maybe I'm misunderstanding the data im reading... I'm looking under application manager, click 'gear vr service' and I'm looking at the battery percent used since last fully charged
Edit: To me, looking at my screenshot, I'm seeing the gear vr service has eaten 5% of the 28% that's been used so far. Am I right? It would be nice if that was at zero, since I don't use VR... But when I disable this package with PDP, I see my battery life take a noticeable hit.

Has anyone noticed increased battery drain since activatinh good lock? Ive been using it today and it seems like my battery is draining faster. Thanks
No.

Yes.. a bit battery drainer and makes my device a bit warmer mostbof the time
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
There is slight drain, but it's nothing really noticeable.. at least not on the latest version of good lock. I had about 2hr 35min SoT at 54% today with good lock running the entire time.. To put it into perspective, I had about 3 hours of SoT with the normal system UI with 49% left.
Either way, the battery trade off is well worth having a vanilla android UI but with all of Samsung's lovely customisations.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
To be honest, I have not noticed a battery drain at all.
Even if there is, it should be very minuscule that you would hardly notice
Yes, due to always request location on each wake...
yea its a bit of a drain....i mean..i like it so much it doesn't bother me lol as much as if it was just a ****ty touchwiz alternative lol.... but maybe as it progresses it will get better on battery...the last update from the 5th shows some improvement ...so over time we should it better with more stabiltiy.

Yes. I can't find it now but somewhere Samsung wrote that they fixed the location requirement. I haven't verified that, however. I had another issue that forced me to uninstall it.

The latest version of Good Lock does not constantly prompt location, which is why I installed it and ran it for a bit. The first version did, and that's why I uninstalled it. But since I've decided to root and use Xposed modules, I'm back at the normal system UI.
What issue caused you to uninstall it? I'm rather curious.
any possible way to show icon labels for wifi bluetooth, location ect... in the pull down menue
Seems to consistently take about 4% off my battery. Haven't decided if that's enough to really care. Really like the lock screen.
It took over 15% of my battery (no location enabled, just "everywhere"). It was next under the screen in battery stats. Needless to say I uninstalled it because of that only. Otherwise I kind of liked it except for the multitasking.

I've seen a little bit of battery drain but I get an entire day out of my phone so I'm not worried about it. Never as much as you say though. Maybe uninstall and reinstall it. I love the new UI. Also HUGE update came out today
I think that the battery usage is dependent on the number of routines that you run. I personally just set up the default routine to my liking and don't have any others set up and Goodlock typically stays under 5% usage.
My wifi keeps switching off

There seems to be a lot of variability out of the box. Mine has always had mediocre battery performance, even with no additional apps installed. I should have exchanged it when j had the chance, but I thought an update might fix it. Disabling this and that can make small improvements, but nothing I do has ever made it outstanding. There are some with great battery performance but I personally believe that with the exception of a few horrible apps (like facebook) there's only so much a user can do to influence battery for US devices. Either you have a good one, or you don't.

There's a lot of talk on the infoweb about the Samsung keyboard. being less that stellar.
I have no problem with Samsung keyboard so far, but I'm not fast typist by any means and don't type much. Isn't there another keyboard you can load, swiftkey or something? I think I had it on my old phone and at the end Samsung was better for me, but should work for others.
Stupid question: since we can disable programs using settings/apps, what is the benefit of using separate dedicated program, besides the usual faster/easier? For example can the program disable apps settings can't?

I froze the Samsung keyboard and am still having problems with it, lol! I still see that bug where the Sammy keyboard periodically tries to place itself back as 'default' is still around. It somehow screwed up my Swype and I had to make a few settings changes to get it working right again.
I've now tweaked my note 7 to where I'm literally getting 1hr and 20 minutes of SOT per every 10% of battery!
