When trying to flash a rom that is not a CM rom i get error message ,"Error executing updater binary in zip". even when rom is for ATT S4 variant. Same happens when trying to flash a 9505 ROM , like i used to do in the pass and then flash ATT kernel.
If you are sure the ROM is for your phone, you can try editing the updater script to include your phone's model.

Hey people.
After going back to Lollipop stock, I tried re-rooting and reinstalling recovery.
I tried to use both OneClickRootRecovery and the SRK tool - and in both I get the same problem.
Root seems to be fine and recovery does appear, but with one little thing - I can't flash ANYTHING.
Getting the "Error executing updater binary in zip" when flashing anything.
I tried a ROM, and even the latest TWRP zip. Always the same error.
Any idea how to solve this?

I am having the same issue on my lg d802. I read in few threads to edit "updater-script" file. I downloaded roms meant for d802 and replaced all "d800" appearing in updater-script with "d802" (not sure that this is what was to be done).
Tried flashing the rom with updated updater-script but still getting the same error message.
Someone kindly help.

UPDATE: After extensive reading threads I found the solution. Need to flash jellybean bootloader using "bootloader changer" and then flash AOSP based roms. To restore the stock lollipop one should flash kitkat bootloader back.
The easiest for you who are installing aosp/cm roms is:
1. flash kk stock
2. root and use autorec for kk
3. flash the roms you desire

Does 4.2.2 contain jellybean bootloader? i tried to flash cm12 from 4.2.2 on g2 d800 and nasty error executing update ... appears, what now?
Hello, I have a problem with my S4, I installed TWRP 2.8.7 and then tried to install the ROM extremely tweaked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9506-develop/rom-t3014552) but while installing it keeps failing saying "E: error executing updater binary in zip '\external_sd\I9506XXUDOD3.zip". I tried to install another rom but the keyboard stops working, so I'm downloading stock rom now (9 hours to download) but now I am stuck, I don't know which kernel to use, which recovery to use and if there's a good deoxeded rom to use. Stock rom was lollipop 5.0.1 at I9506XXUDOD6 (Greek). Any help? Thanks!

I am currently running a Samsung Galaxy A7 (SM-A700YD) with TWRP and I forgot to put on my ROM before wiping it and it got rid of my stock ROM. I have a ROM to put on but every time I try to install it it comes up with "E: error executing updater binary in zip". I have the ROM on my sdcard and it keeps coming up with that error.

Stock roms need to be flashed with ODIN.
hello everyone , few weeks ago my phone got infected with malwares and bcoz of that i rooted my phone and installed cm12.1 but when i tried to revert back to kitkat am not able to do it and i have tried every way but m not able to succed.
I tried to install stock lolipop recovery , stock kitkat recovery , twrp but none of them working and i always get this error
" no md5 fle found
failed to mount /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/userdata
E:error executing updater binary in zip"
and this happens only when i try to install stock rom and whenever i install stock lolipop roms and it always succeds
plzz help me to install stock kitkat rom
Flash the kitkat firmware before flashing the rom.. U can find kitkat firmware in Cm 12.1 by Ed300 thread.

Wipe all system,data,cache and dalvik caches and then flash stock kitkat
can anyone help me? I was trying to flash custom rom but this happen :

I have trying to flash to stock rom then install firmware update after that install the custom rom but this still happen, the only successfull flash custom rom is using Nusantara Os Mi439 type, but yeah there are many bugs. Thats why I need to flash other custom rom.
