Screen getting scratches easy! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Just pointing out that this phone gets scratches easy. It have only been in my pocket with the Led View Cover and I have always putted it in there carefully and alone and never laid the phone with the screen down.
Bowne have 3 scratches over the screen.. Can't be seen if not specifically looking for them with screen Off, but well they're there.
Anyone else got similar experiences?

Yes, mine also have similar minor scratches. I have been using this with Super-Carefully. But still they are. Samsung did a bad job in scratch resistance on S7 Edge. Should not be. My S4 International version is way more better in terms of scratch resistance.

Could be a trade off of scratch- vs shatter- resistance, I seem to recall reading that is the basic trade for something so thin (and possibly made of the silicon glass it is).
My wrist-watch has proven both highly scratch and shatter resistant, but it has a thick Sapphire glass crystal and that won't work for a phone like this I don't think (at least without adding even more dramatic cost).

I would suggest making sure there's nothing on your pocket, been using it naked since day one and haven't scratched the screen at all but I do make sure I don't have anything on my pocket, don't want to risk it.

Definitely some truth to that.
FWIW, I've had mine active for 2 weeks, never used a screen protector, and can't see any scratches even when looking carefully with the screen off. NOTHING else but my phone ever goes in my left from pocket.

Any updates on your screen? Any scratches?
I'm thinking of taking my zagg off b/c I don't like the feel of it and it seems to diminish screen quality even if by just a little bit.
Didn't have it on the first few days I had it and never saw a scratch on it from being in my pocket.

I noticed a scratch on mine and I don't put my phone in pocket with other items. Just had symmetry case on. I put a cheap screen protector on after that

Got scratches on mine too. Been ultra careful all the times

+1. No screen protector, no scratches. Sometimes when it is dirty I wipe it with a glasses rag, that's all.

42 days in use, bare naked and scratch-less.

Yes, S7 Egde tends to get hairy scratches, magically it happens even we handle it with care Try full body protectors to stay away from the scratches. I'm using Gadgetshieldz full body protectors. It's outstanding still. http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-screen-protectors-covers-cases.html

I used a Supershieldz protector for a few days just to be on the safe side but since the film came off as soon as I put on the protector I went back to naked and my screen still remains unscratched, I think it's mainly just being careful with how you handle your phone.

Have you checked it under sun ? Mine looked unscratched but then I noticed some micro scratches when I looked at it under strong light

These posts are just stupid because we know the exact hardness of the cover glass, which is exactly the same as every other phone. So if you scratched yours it doesn't make the phone "easy to scratch" it makes you a careless user.

I just did per your suggestion, and fortunately for me it is unscratched. I do agree that keeping the phone scratch free throughout its entire life might be hard to achieve but if you really care for your phone then it's possible, my phone only goes in my pocket alone or on top of a table/flat surface never facing down. I had a Nexus 5 for 2 years with a screen protector even though the last 6 months of usage I had it naked and not a single scratch either even though the screen sucks cause it literally shatters if it falls down on the screen once regardless of height.

Me2... be sure not to have anything in your pockets

Yeah. It scratches waay easier then my Note 4. Luckily/sadly by screen broke and I got a new one. On this one I have zagg invishield.

Tell me your experiences with none on, is your screen getting scratches?
I hate screen protectors as well. That said, everytime I've tried to go nekkid, I've eventually ended up with scratches. No matter how careful you are, it seems, Gorilla Glass WILL scratch. Relatively easily IMO.
I picked up an InvisibleShield HD from Best Buy and it is super clear and flush. I dont even notice it on there.

I will prob go with no screen protector, I had my HTC Hero for 3 years and had very minimal scratching without a screen protector. I only ever put my phone in my pocket on its own. I also keep my phones for the 3 year term that I get them on so by time the 3 years is up the re-sale value doesn't really matter to me any way so if it has some minor scratches it doesn't matter much since I will prob just pass the phone to someone for free anyway. Not to mention it looks and feels better without the protector and why not have the best experience with your phone instead of babying it.
I've never had one on my E4GT and it only has a few super faint scratches that you have to turn it off and put in sunlight to see. I don't think I'll put one on my GSIII either - they always end up getting bubbles or peeling back at some point.

I am not sure... It is a sticky on one side and you apply a solution to apply it to the screen which makes positioning it very easy.

Wet.
I'm going nude too
The only phone I've ever had a tiny scratch in was with my Droid Bionic. But it was my work phone which means that I didn't baby it the way I normally do with my phones. None of my phones have ever had any scratch on them, and in fact the only phone that did have a screen protector on it, broke. Not that a screen protector is supposed to prevent it from breaking after someone stepped on it but yeah that's another story. I'm also planning on getting a white one and don't think it would look too nice after a while as the glue around the edges gets dark.
I figure as long as my pockets are free from anything else and they stay clean that I shouldn't have any issues with the screen. Just take care of your stuff people. Also while i'm at it, I think it's disgusting when people here scratch their screen then return it for another one. That's not anyone's fault but your own. There is already a high demand for these devices and the carrier or samsung should not be held responsible for that.
*gets off my soap box*
Screen protectors are a pain in the ass. Get rid of it. You can always tell that it's on there. Just take care of your phone. I keep my right pocket for the phone only. I never put anything in my right pocket except for the phone.
I never use a screen protector. Never got scratches on my phone either. This is gorilla glass 2, so if you mess this up you don't need a phone

Stick your finger in the sand at the beach, then swipe your finger across your screen. Report back.
Sand will scratch the screen. Sand is actually at locations other than the beach and may come into contact with your phone/finger.
One year on the nexus and not a single scratch. My daughters epic is 2 years old without a single scratch and she just throws it in her book bag. Neither have ever had screen protectors.

I think most people would notice if sand came in contact with their phone/finger and wouldn't have an issue scratching the phone.
I've never used a screen protector, nor do I have any intention of using one on this device. My s2 looks like the day I got it.

Meh. Some sand/dirt is overseen depending on its size as not all dirt/sand is the same size. You can google gorilla glass and scratches and see it will scratch. I'm not saying everybody will scratch their screen, but I'm not taking any chances. Besides, I'm a pro at putting on screen protectors so I do it anyways..
If you are worried about scratches, I'd rather get a flip cover or slide in pouch than taint the display with a screen protector. Granted I live in the midwest and there isn't exactly a lot of beaches around, but I had my Epic since launch and never put anything on it and the screen still looks like new (the bezel not so much). It's even been dropped a few times landing facedown on my driveway/garage floor.
I have been naked on my phones the past several years and no visible or major scratches. If you are careful and don't put coins or keys in same pocket you should be good.
I'm going without a screen protector. One reason is that I suck at putting them on and get really annoyed with the bubbles and dust particles underneath. But the screen is just too good to cover up with a protector. I take good care of my phones so I don't have to worry too much about scratches. I had my GS2 for 8 months with no protector and no scratches at all. I put it in my pocket without anything else and it was fine. I make sure my hands are clean before using my phone.
I always start out with a protector, then end up taking it off after 6 months or so and that's with every Smartphone I've ever owned 2007-present.

Nexus 4 Front Screen Scratch Question

Hi,
I'll keep the question brief. The screen on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus got a scratch right away after opening whereas the Nexus 7 16gb that I bought back in July has been outstanding without a single scratch. Has anyone who received the phone and has been using it without a screen protector noticed any scratches (given that you keep it in a pocket by itself, so no keys, etc)? Ideally it shouldn't because my Nexus 7 didnt and I have put it through its paces. Thank you.
Ya know... the most common source of scratches are grains of dirt or sand, which has a tendency to collect in pockets. If and when you feel any, turn your pocket inside-out and slap it a couple of times to get rid of it.

I agree with that. But I'm trying to gauge whether I need preventative measures. If its like the Nexus 7, there wont be any scratches from my own experiences.

With all my previous phones (HTC Sensation, Galaxy SII, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy SIII) I always went with screen protectors right away. However, I found that they never looked perfect and in my opinion they always looked worse than a couple scratches would if I left the screen bare. With this phone I decided to just go without a screen protector altogether. The way I see it now is that the glass IS the screen protector designed to protect the digitizer.
And for reference, my first N4 was defective out of the box so I immediately ordered an RMA unit. I used that time with the first N4 to really utilize it in daily use without babying it or caring about scratches. I've placed it on its face on all sorts of counter tops, slid it across tables, and accidentally banged it on random objects. Today my RMA unit came and I inspected the first N4 before packaging it up to send it off. And I am happy to report that the phone had absolutely NO scratches or scuffs. This thing is more durable than my Galaxy Nexus was, that I am sure of.

That's what I was saying. The one I "abused" had absolutely no scratches or scuffs on it when I packaged it up today to send back to Google.
Also, keep in mind many people are reporting that screen protectors are really affecting the sensitivity of the N4's screen more than other phones. In my opinion, it would be rather silly to put something on the screen that makes the phone less usable just for the sake of protecting it.

Ever since Google authorized an RMA for me, I've been sorta "abusing" the phone. No problem at all. Whereas, I got scratches here and there on my Galaxy Nexus when I used the same way now.
But, in my opinion, having a few scratches here and there looks much better than when it is covered with a screen protector that is more prone to scratches than the screen itself.
Changing the direction of the thread since it is related to the screen. So I opened it today. The screen from what I had seen on YouTube and read was that the screen was superior to galaxy nexus.
On using it I see striations of lines like 1366*768 on my 15.6 laptop. I think that there is something wrong because every background including the virtual buttons other than white have vertical lines that I can distinguish. Can someone please confirm or deny these vertical lines on grey, blue backgrounds. Is this the screen technology or just this specific phone that I received? I have nexus 7 and this had been perfect in every sense. Its not as high resolution as nexus 4 but the pixels are a result of both horizontal and vertical lines colliding resulting in no vertical striations.

Yeah my heart just sank too--the front appeared more scratch resistant than the back to me. The back of mine had a deep scrape within the first day of use just from being in my purse. Now I see MANY very fine scrapes on the front. WTH! It's not even two weeks old!

and I just noticed it that there's a new scratch on the front, a deep one this time.

I should have bought an xperia T, that thing is unbreakable
Yeah, I have been babying the mess out of my N4, but what I thought was a hair turned out to be a scratch deep enough to be felt by a fingernail running across it. The upsetting part is that the back of my device is fine, but the scratch is on the screen. I don't understand how my GNex only has a few scuffs on it, and it's been treated much worse than the N4, but the N4 just somehow managed to get "lucky" and find that somewhat sharp particle that sliced it up good. Starting to make me dislike Corning a bit.

I looked at my phone this morning and noticed 3 fine scratches near the top right hand corner of my phone. I also had that heart sinking feeling. I have a Galaxy Nexus prior and i didn't have a single scratch on the screen .
with the screen on that scratch doesn't affect the display at all only when i try to look for it. i still don't know how it got them =(
sighhhhhh
I have only had my Nexus 4 for 5 days and although I have left the screen protector that came with the phone on the back side, I have no screen protector on the front side.
So far no scratches whatsoever on the front screen and I keep the phone in my pockets.
My previous phone (Galaxy S2), which I had used for a year has a few small (hair like) scratches on its screen but its almost invisible when using the phone.

slippery back side glass
I have a Nexus 4 about 1 month, but I am much more afraid about scratches on the back. This phone is very slippery when I put it on the back and surface is not completely flat, even a very small angle and Nexus 4 starts moving down the hill. IT already fell down on the ground when it was on the book on the table. But no damage yet.
I've been keeping the phone in my pocket without screen protectors (now in a microfiber sunglasses pouch) and don't have the slightest scratch on the front, it seems very strong. The back is a different story, I would say it is definitely not the same material as the front glass.

Gorilla Glass 4 is not so perfect. Put on a screen protector asap.

I've had my S6 Edge for a week and several visible light scratches starts to appear on the screen. I was waiting for my screen protector to arrive from amazon. And I was extra careful with the naked device.
This issue is not new. But with Samsung and Corning constantly reassure the ability of improved scratch resistance of the device. I doubt many people will not put on a screen protectors.
So, I suggest you guys put on one now, before it's too late, asap.
I have already ran into that issue some very small light scratches while waiting for my screen protector in the first week. I am extra careful also no clue where they came from.
I believe the glass has some sort of oleophobic coating on it and that is what is getting the fine scratches in it. Not that it really matters because it still looks terrible. But I don't believe the glass itself is scratching.

Usually exposure to sand.
Can you suggest me a good screen protector?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ya/ref... - Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Matte Screen...#top
I ordered this one. It has matte finish so you can get away with fingerprints, it has healing factor to heal small scratches itself, it is edge to edge means that it will cover the entire screen including the curved parts.
So far so good. I like it.

I highly doubt your 'scratch free' statement. I'm sure it has small scratches on the surface but you just cant see it very clearly. As long as the glass is still softer than sands. There will be scratches.

Amazon: Screen Protector 5-10 dollars
My local store that sells em: screen protector: 20-40 Dollars
Thats why
There's nothing wrong with the Zagg shield front+back protector you can get from Verizon. I won't even let my phone leave the store without having a screen protector on it ... I know myself, and I know there's literally zero chance it wont get scratched.
Even if you're waiting for a better (tempered glass) screen protector ... do yourself a favor and buy something cheap while you're waiting for it to arrive. Not trying to preach or be a dink, but you can't blame the glass for scratching - blame yourself.

I hope so!
I see a few (scratches) on mine and I have not had this phone anywhere nor put it in a place where something could have scratched it! Compared to my other devices that have been pocketed and used a lot and those screens are flawless!
It reminds me of the camera glass on the HTC One M8. That got all kinds of crazy looking scratches and it was never touched. It was some kind of coating on the glass that caused it. And, too, it was easily rectified with some Brasso...
We're talking really tiny scratches here, completely invisible to content when viewing the screen head on. But when off, especially in sunlight, they are there. It's bothersome like when you notice a tiny scratch or ding on a new car.
I can say that I have the phone since 17th and I'm having extra careful and with direct sun light is where I can see if I have scratches or not. So on the screen I have zero scratches has I had with my s5 without a screen protector at least for 7months but on the s6 edge the screen as I said zero scratches but on the part that has the capacity buttons because it's gold version I can see there some light scratches
Same here, I'm giving the exact same usage to my S6 Edge that the one I did with my S5 and S4, both of them have only a couple of small tiny scratches but my S6E has A LOT already. I'm so disappointed at this as I never required to use an screen protector since my S4.
Got my S6e on 4/17 and so far have only a single, very faint scratch on the screen where I would have to tilt the phone in sunlight "just so" to barely make it out. I'm fairly certain I got that when I dropped my phone at the gym.
Last night I received the Cellbee "glass-like" screen protector, followed the directions as best I could... and ended up throwing the damn thing away. I made sure I was in an environment free of airflow and minimal dust, and it resulted in one of the worst finished products in my years of experience putting screen protectors on. On top of that, the surface had so much friction it felt like my finger was running on top of rubber.
Anyway, waiting for the tempered glass, or at least a standard protector with more success stories. Don't want to waste another $10.

Don't ***** about scratches if you can't afford to spend 20$ on an 800$ phone then.
I have read somewhere that there is some glare on the edge. Anybody noticed this?

Around the edges? Ya it's there but you get used to it after a day or so.

Micro scratches

hello, under strong light there are all over the screen micro scratches on my s7 edge. Is it just for me?
Some people report getting micro scratches. Other people (including me) have checked very carefully and find zero scratches, despite using the phone heavily for months with no case or screen protector. The phone doesn't get scratches, micro or otherwise, unless something happens to cause them.
Sand maybe? Sand causes awful scratches
Sand is a killer, agree. Even tiny amounts have ripped my screen to shreds on previous devices.
All good on my S7E so far, not a mark. I had terrible microscratches on my S6 Edge+ and didn't know why, I handled that phone with the utmost care (except when I sat on it). Eventually I discovered there were tiny crumbs of doggie snacks in my pocket that were the culprits... Go figure.

Sounds daft I know, but true! Always have a handful in pockets - bribery, my mutt is a naughty boy - and with a phone in there and long walks the snacks get quite finely grinded over time. The filters in my washing machine and tumble dryer confirm it, as well as confirming I need better laundry habits....
Mine too, despite the fact that I'm very cautious with my phone.. Fortunately, they're not visible except under direct light.
Used my t shirt to clean my screen. now got a micro scratch. having a nightmare finding a good screen protector.

Unless your shirt is made of sandpaper, it's not what scratched your screen. For years now, my phones have had no case or screen protector, and I always wipe the screen off with my shirt or with a moist paper towel. I've never gotten even the slightest scratch on the screen (and for my Note 5 and S7 Edge, there have been no scratches on the back glass either). I do check carefully under bright light, with the screen off, from a variety of angles.
I use a spigen case, i put on a screen protector then put it in its case and it peels the protector off.
will try a spigen screen protector.
it was my works t shirt. after my note 7 screen scratched i was extra cautious with my s7 edge. had a fingerprint on it. wiped it on my t shirt. checked again. and ffs. a micro scratch.

Yes, I have micro scratches on my back side all over the place, but I know exactly why. When I place my phone on a table, two corners on the bottom and the camera bump are in contact with the table. Aaand... yea.. that will leave some marks after 6 months of heavy use. I solved this by buying a skin before, and now I bought a bumper, so when I place it, it doesn't touch the phone but the skin or bumper.
Though... My friend has S6Edge and he doesn't have a single, like literally not a single micro scratch.

Not if you place the phone gently on a smooth, clean surface.

Yup, my phones have been the same as your friend's. Wipe off the smudges and it looks like it was just unboxed.

I genuinely cared the first 2 months and I didn't even place it much on any surfaces. Mainly I just hided it in my pocket or smth. Even with this, there have been many micro scratches... And that's when I stop caring and I'm placing the phone wherever I need to and want to.

screen scratches

When I bought my s8 I didn't have enough money to get a screen protector. I'm OCD when it comes to screen scratches. And sadly I've accumulated a few. Does anyone know of a way to buff out these scratches?
How have you scratched it? its a glass screen, it shouldnt be THAT easy to scratch it!

No idea how the scratches got there. They aren't huge or super noticeable either but they still annoy me. You'd think that we'd have scratch resistant glass at this point

Some cars cost less than £600.
No one goes to jail for a 'little' fraud. Law is absolute not a grey area. Sentences for crimes are proportionate to the crime. but as you admit in saying "It's not like it's a car" it is still illegal regardless.
Mine had a couple of scratches out of the box. But they are so shallow that are only visible at the certain lighting at certain angle and completely invisible under the screen protector or on a lit up screen. Unless you don't see them all the time - its fine. And I guess there is some coating on a glass that gets scratched - not glass itself. As it was mentioned before - its not easy to scratch it unless you wiped it with dirty cloth or sand. Many people don't use protectors at all and have 0 scratches in a year.
But get a screen protector anyway. Regular plastic one will do (I use official Samsung protectors). You will, probably, not see those scratches under it and it will help your device to look like new over the years.
PS: And yes, there is a couple of ways to remove the scratches, but you should never do it. It might be a success, but in 90% of cases you'll just scratch your screen much more.
Do Samsung do protectors for the S8? Any links, I'd be interested. Thanks.

Thank you for your input
Go ahead and put on a wet aplication screen protector, you won't see the scratches at all. No anything you do will just make it worst.

Do you have any suggestions for these type of screen protectors?
The Samsung s8 scratches so easily within a day I had a deep scratch on it and within 4 days I have 5 just from taking it in and out of my pocket. Not impressed as the s5 I've had for 2 years dropped it so many times and not a mark on the screen

I was trying my hardest to be extremely careful with handling the phone. I haven't even taken the back plastic cover off yet. The only reason I took the front one off was cause it peeled off when I put it in my pocket (it was from Sprint and was completely clear)
I'm using a skin on the back of mine. No protector on the front yet and no scratches but I'm considering the official Samsung screen protector (Google it). Seen some good reviews even though I have protectors (especially film).
I always order a gadgetshield body protection; So the back side, front and al the way around the corners is protected for scratches. Has cost me 10 euro.

Can confirm screen is weak. Or at least the coating. Mine has fine scratches and one deep one. Used a s7 edge that didn't have any after a year so I'm surprised at how easily the s8 scratches.

Yeah it really sucks. I don't have any feel ones yet, knock on wood, just some light ones. I'm OCD about my screen so I constantly look for scratches when I can only find them at certain angles
S8 easy scratch
After just two days of using my galaxy s8+ has a big scratch. And I took care not to stand with the keys etc.... VERY DISSPAPPOINTED ((
I dont know how you guys use your phones, I've had mine since 19 april without any case or screenprotector and there is not even one tiny scratch. Never put it on rough surfaces, and always put it alone in my pocket. I'm planning to get a case and screenprotector to not have to isolate it all the time tough.
