1. Clark is the codename for this phone. The XT1572 is the international model, the XT1575 is the US model I think. Just make sure you flash the right ROM for your model (the thread title will show 72 or 75).
2. Depends if you want GUI tool. I used the second method, using ADB and fastboot command line, very straightforward. Just unlock via Motorola website, boot into fastboot, flash recovery.img from TWRP, and then boot into recovery and flash your ROM. Done.
3. If you use stock ROM, then look at Frankenclark (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/kernel-frankenclark-t3289939). If you want a de-bloated stock ROM, look at TruPureMM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/rom-trupurex-fast-smooth-t3237155). Incidentally, you can use Frankenclark kernel on TrupureMM. That's probably the most popular option. If you want an AOSP type option - There's CM13 Unofficial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/orig-development/cm13-motox-2015-t3279564?goto=newpost), or Temasek CM13 that has more options (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/rom-temasek-s-cm13-0-t3312175?goto=newpost), or also Bliss ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/rom-bliss-rom-6-0-team-bliss-t3299745/).
4. Very good so far, watching TV shows and movies is wonderful with the big screen and dual front facing speakers. Performance is good. There are only two weaknesses, and that's an average battery life (not terrible, but not class leading), and also lack of wireless charging, which I have been used to in previous phones.
Hope that helps.

Easy guide/comparison of (current) G4+ Roms & Features & current release levels
Besides the ongoing philosophical/(or more accurately RELIGIOUS) discussion of TWRP vs. CM13, (kind of agnostic about that, have run both in past)
can anyone go over what is CURRENTLY available for the Moto G4+, (XT1644), what are the differences/features between the ROMS, what state are they in, (beta/stable),
etc?
I am (personally) interested in a ROM that would be able to do "OTA" updates to itself, if that is a viable feature.
I would be willing to help re-write this into a beginners guide if someone can help me with the details.
thanks in advance.

twrp is recovery completely working, only cm13(in beta state) rom is available beside the stock.Dont have ota idea for cm13
Thanks for your reply.
OK. so you say TWRP is fully working. But it's only a recovery, correct? & works with the stock rom.
IS that why I can do a systemless rooting of phone without changing it?
Yeah twrp is recovery,in system less rooting we have to flash twrp but in system less after "rebooting device" it gets replaced by stock recovery. Usually to keep twrp i used too reboot the bootloader so it replaces stock recovery.
Alright I finally managed to root my phone. I was pretty scared that I would break my phone as a failed at installing twrp twice but my third try was my lucky try. I also have Magisk. So what do I do next? I want to download adaway, maybe lineage OS and especially ways to boost my battery life and keep my phone as a cool as a cucumber (I heard this is a myth but I'd like to see how this forum thinks. but don't know where to start if any can link some guides I would appreciate it! Also how would I begin to even theme my phone? I know there is Substratum but I want to make sure if my S5 can even support it and risk being bricked.
After rooting, you have 3 things to do, they are the beauty of rooting:
1. Disable Bloatware. (Use this)
2. Disable Adware. (Use this)
3. Control which apps can/cannot use your data. (Use this)
That's if you want to keep your phone on stock rom, if you want to install a custom rom, I suggest Lineage 14.1 (Android 7.1.2). Just go here and pickup your rom based on your S5 variant and follow the instructions to install it (by the way, you don't even had to be rooted to install a custom rom). It's the one I'm using right now and it's gorgeous!
As for Substratum, I'm using it now and it's nice, it didn't brick my S5 or anything, I'm using a dark theme which is nice and also good for battery life.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for this useful and detailed response , just won't to ask you I can use a custom rom on a S5 (G900H) uncertified and roioted only say that have only 179 MB in internal storage ?
, thank for any answer and help,
Can anyone recommend a rom that is focused on performance? I'm using my S5 for my drone live feed and need it to run as efficiently as possible since its kinda old.

There's no ROM for S5 that has only 179 MB, the smallest one I can think of right now is the one I referred to in my previous reply; LineageOS 14.1. This ROM has several characteristics that makes it the most suitable ROM for S5 including but not limited to:
1. Small in size (about 300 MB (not including GApps).
2. Already rooted.
3. Fast and lite.
4. Latest Android version (7.1.2)
5. Supported by all S5 variants (including 900H).

Thank you^^
Hi all.
I have a Moto G5 Plus(XT1687) that I would like use a custom ROM on. In fact I bought a second one to specifically do this with. I have only done this once with a Samsung Galaxy S5 and the MicroG version of LineageOS 14.1
With the Moto G5 Plus there are some extra steps from what I gather(you have to get permission from Motorola in order to unlock the bootloader is one example). And there are some intimidating things that I am just unsure about - such as to install Arrow you have to have Oreo 8.1 installed - but when you unlock the bootloader it wipes the phone? So how is this possible? Do I have to install the stock Oreo ROM first? Where do I get the stock ROM?
I have done a couple of months of searching for guides but have found different instructions and some with broken links to software on google drives or other sites I am not sure are safe. I asked about on the subreddit for Moto G and they pointed me here(which I have read a lot here over the past several months.).
Here is what I know:
1) I will need to enable developer options and USB debugging on the phone
2) I will have to get a code from the phone through abd and fastboot. In order to unlock the bootloader, I have to contact Motorola. give them a code and they will send me a code in order to do so(correct?)
3) I need to install TWRP in order to flash any ROM and other software, such as Gapps.
What I am asking of the community:
1) Legitimate link to the software needed.
2) Recommendations for ROMs. What do I want? I want to get be able to get out of the clutches of Google as much as possible. I understand that Android is Google, but most of the custom ROMs have removed most of the Google code. There is not a ROM from the MicroG website for Potter, which is what I really wanted(is this just LineageOS with thew micro Gapps?) I also have found replacement apps for almost all of my normal apps in the F-Droid repository. Ones I have studied: LineageOS(no official for Moto G5 Plus), Arrow OS, HavocOS and RessurectionOS. I have heard there are many out there. Important to have the actual phone part working well.
3) What is the differences in the different Gapps packages(Open Gapps, Mind the Gapps)?
4) What is this magisk I keep on reading about? Is that just for root? And don't you need root to install TWRP?
5) A step by step guide to make sure I don't jack this up. Even though this is my 'play' phone, I would like it to become my daily driver and plan on getting a SIM card as soon as I can get a stable OS on it.
6) Any tips or recommendations for someone like me.
I appreciate any input.
Thank you.
OK, I found this, but it is over a year old.
Is the info there still relevant? Is there anything that has changed since it was posted?
one two and three of what you know is ok.
The custom rom must be for the device.
On my motog5 plus I use Crdroid-Rom without Google Gapps.
Magisk is used to get root, that is, make changes and view the root of the device.
The information is valid. Rom-are outdated.
Thank you. Doing more research. Hopefully I will have a functioning device by the end of the weekend.
If you want smoothest experience try citrus-CAF its pure CAF rom its very nice smooth and fast.
Hello,
After two years of using A7 have replaced my A2017 to A2017G version, and decided it to flash with custom rom.
I have read many of ROM info(AOSP Treble etc), but I'm confused
1. which one support exact "stock type" AKM hifi chip. (without VIPER or any "battery drainer" CPU calculated additions, )
So please help me, what to choose if this is the priority for me.
2. Also would like to use GCAM HDR+. So if it is included with the ROM is the best, but not necessary because can do it with magisk or twrk I think.
Dolby is NOT important. (as I know this is the tricky part for the custom ROMs)
Or stay the stock, unlock bootloader etc. and install GCAM and that's all?
Also I'm confused because of bootstack, modem, version dependency and all horrors about A7.
So any advice would be great to point to thread how can I do this with simplest/up to date method that work without dependency of version of system and G, U, Chinese version difference.
Is there any disadvantage if stay on stock with rooted and unlocked bootloader with twrp versus factory default locked device?
(if I do updates with EDL than, not OTA. I have used EDL too for Oreo betas also without problem)
My last question: There sooo many tutorials. But why if there is Axontool app to do this all?
On paper it's can do any of these. What is the problem with it ? Because no tutorials for it,
for example changing chinese to G version or something like this. Without doc I'm afraid, it's
not so easy otherwise all tutorials should use this fantastic tool.
Thanks in advance,
AO
I'm not an expert on any of this but if your absolute main priority is GCAM on Axon 7, get a different phone....
The camera is not amazing anyway.
Any stock ROM is not using camera2 api so you would have to go custom ROM and suffer the risks.
Hello,
I like the camera, altough I know it is good only in sunny days and I have learned it's limitations...
That's what I need gcam, because of night/afterglow pictures are much better on Axon. Only for photos.
No, I have no plan to replace this phone for long time because of it's SOUND
I have testen some new phones, even galaxy, but I hate the poor jack output and speaker quality. Of course the option to buy better hifi phone is open, but from that price I have bought 3 Axon 7 and 1 Axon mini
I like this phone very much, and wanted to give him/her a second life with custom ROM (on all of my previus phones was custom ROM and there was no problem
to install them, but Axon is a different story because of bootstack and modem etc and there was a 3 year guarintee on it, but now I'm free because this "new" G phone is used I can hack it without guuarantee lost
I have read that on factory oreo you can also install gcam with unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, so this is false ? fe:

Thank you for the reply BTW
I use [ROM][A2017X][B04 8.0.0][stock] SL!M8.
HiFi DAC works, Dolby Atmos too, and you just need to flash your modem: A2017G-O-B04-MODEM, and then follow instructions for install.
CameraApi2: A2017G-V1.30B04_HDR+. I also use CPL as my launcher.
GCam: Arnova's v8.3b1 (Direct Link).
For me, it works perfectly.

I use a 32GB Micro SD and only have my ROM in case I need to "factory reset", I also have the 128GB version, so no need for extra storage.
Hi, I recently bought an used OnePlus 8 Pro and it was already updated to Android 11. After repairing it, I discovered that it's not possible to run TWRP on this firmware version.
Couldn't I just go ahead and downgrade the OS in order to run TWRP on it or is it basically impossible like on the latest Samsung Galaxy S-series devices?
Would be glad if someone could answer me that question. I kinda tried to boot into twrp because I was too quick to read the thread but it just caused my device to run into Qualcomm Emegency Mode.
What do you need twrp for? If it's just to root and almost everything else... It can be done via other means.

Hmmmm the way I've seen a lot of custom roms... They're installed/flashed partition by partition in bootloader via fastboot.....I guess if you have to use twrp to flash the entire rom you do need to downgrade to os 10.

Thank you for your response. i think i just did not catch up the latest progress. Would you please help me find the instruction about how to flash rom in the new way you mentioned ? thank you so much.
And i still have the same question , is it necessary for us to downgrade to android 10 and then start flashing rom.
Look at the roms in the subforum here:

I just looked at some popular ones like Pixel experience and Lineage and they're both flashed in this way. Look at the opening post where the instructions are... Seems like Pixel Experience there's a batch file that flashes the partitions but it's essentially done this way without twrp.

Because it requires installing rom from recovery, so I get stuck here.
The problem is the device enters crash dump mode when switched to recovery mode. I guess the reason is that my p8pro is in andriod 11 before i flash recovery. now the device can enter android 11 normally but the recovery don't function. So I am here to ask is it necessary for me to downgrade to android 10 to solve the problem.

Thank you for your reply, it help me a lot. i have already flash my device lineage os . Regarding the problem i mentioned in my last reply, it seems the install guide is for android 10. As for android 11 , i think it needs a payload dumper to extract all files and flash them one by one.

I think the answer depends why do you need twrp. If you just want to flash a rom like me, you can find a custom rom supporting android 11,for example lineage os and you can flash all files it requires without twrp.
If you want to flash a android 10 rom or you just want to flash twrp , i don't know how, maybe you should downgrade.
