I have a GT-i9505 running latest cm13 nightly and this problem has been persisted since cm12.
I can only get my camera working if I clear system, internal storage, cache and dalvik cache and re flash again.
Although it works only a few days and after that it goes back to being black screen. Camera stops if I switch between video and capture mode.

What about other camera apps?
It's the same with 3rd party camera apps, black screen.

if you're feeling brave you could try the lollipop camera fix. it shouldn't be relevant to marshmallow but what you describe sounds pretty close to the lollipop camera problem.
maybe take a backup first though so you can revert if it makes things worse...

It works fine when HDR is off, but if it's on, I have to wait for the camera to pick a new focus target, clicking doesn't do it.

I should hope it's obvious that the box in the background isn't in focus, the foreground object is (the one that the autofocus picked up). Anyone else seeing this?
Try wiping the gallery data (yes the camera is an activity which belongs to the gallery).

Did wiping solve this ? because I tried but nothing changed and has anyone else experience this ? Because I do have this since I first bought this phone HDR manual focus is not working at most times but auto focus works just fine.
Im using a unofficial version of aokp 4.3.1 and since the camera that comes with that rom doesnt work because it keeps asking me to insert an sdcard which this phone doesnt have so I downloaded a modded version of the LGG2 camera and it gave me too many issues. I also downloaded focal fr the market and it worked, however, when i go to the gallery to view my picture it shows black and i cant view anything. I already tried to clear data in media storage reboot the phone and it still doesn't work I don't know which camera or gallery can work with this rom

It seems like as it tries to focus, these coloured lines flash about on the screen.
I bought the Note 3 from a company on eBay, so could look to return it, but could it be software related? I tried Camera Zoom FX and it doesn't look like it happens.
You can see it in recorded video too -
I had these lines before and I managed to fix by turning off the wifi while using the camera.
Second solution is changing the router channel to 6 or below.
After the latest OTA from samsung the lines just vanish. (MK2)

Hope it helps

Thanks, glad I'm not the only one...
Clear the data and cache for the camera
Turn off WiFi
Use another app.
Usually these three or a combination of them helps.
My S5 was a little laggy this morning and I had to restart it. After reboot it shows the custom unlock icon on the Galaxy S5 screen. Has anyone seen an explanation as to why this is happening?

apparently its a known issue

Your s5 has its full apps? the many the application sometimes the phone being laggy a bit.
I think this has to do with running ART as opposed to dalvik
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Yes, it's due to enabling ART - switching back to Dalvik does not remove the custom boot screen either - seems it's here to stay.
Today I wanted to take a panorama and when I open the camera app I see only auto mode.
I tried clearing data and restarting but its still the same. On tapping the + icon on top right, galaxy app store opens and I see additional modes like beauty face, rear cam selfie etc but the ones that were preinstalled (panorama, pro, selective focus etc) aren't there. I'm running the latest update.
Build number: NRD90m.G950FXXU1AQI7
I really don't wish to do a factory reset unless it's the last resort.
