Cannot make or receive calls - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I recently purchased this phone and I am experiencing a strange issue. I stay in India.
During long standby time like the whole night or not using for 2 hours or so. When someone calls me, it says my phone is "switched off" when I try to make calls, It never goes through. I have to restart my phone!
The signal bars are all there.
1. I tried to change band 2g/3g or just 2g, the issue still persists.
2. I factory reset the phone, still no help.
3. Change the sim card. No help at all.
CELL STANDBY takes up all my battery draining my battery by 25-30% the whole night, this is without using the phone. I am so frustrated and annoyed by this problem. I would appreciate if someone can put me out of this misery

Anyone who can help here please?

That I did not try.. I will do it today.
Any idea on why "cell standby" is eating away battery?

Sounds like your phone is trying to get network access in a loop.. are you sure this sim is provisioned? Does it work in other phones? If yes what model was it last in? What network do you use?

In that case was the bootloader and radio/modem updated when the upgrade was done?

Yes the sim works flawlessly on other phone, i was previously using a LG G4.
I went and changes the sim card yesterday, I am now observing even worse "cell standby" drain! I have not rooted the phone.

Problem with HTC 8525

Hello all,
I got my HTC-8525 from AT&t about two years back. Then I moved to India, I got 8525 unocked from AT&T, where I have used the phone regularly. I have even flashed some new ROMs, Radios etc.
Now, I came back to USA. I tried to use a SIM from AT&T in the phone. But when I insert the SIM in the phone and activate the phone mode from connection manager phones battery starts discharging very quickly, at the rate of 4% per minute approx. When I try to use phone without SIM in flight mode battery works OK.
Even I have replaced the battery with a new one, flashed original AT&T rom with radio and even tried couple of Radios also.
Can someone guide me, what can I do now? Is it a hardware problem?
Thanks,
Alex

[Q] Turning off "cell" radio NOT wireless 3G radio...

Hello everyone..
here is my problem....
I no longer have cellular service from sprint, lets say sprint disconnected it...
ok so i have my evo and a bunch of things i can still do with it.
but! why is it that i cant turn off just the "cellular" radio without it going into plane mode? keep in mind im not talking about "go into wireless mode and uncheck mobile" that only turns off 3g and leaves the phone COMPLETELY ON.
i mean, i dont have the service why do i still have to put it in airplane mode (and on evo's you cant use bluetooth while on that mode)
is there an apk that i can delete so the "phone" feature is gone and no longer shows my the strength bars without the need for airplane mode? its annoying to have to turn on my "PMP" and have to see the airplane on there.
you can use titanium backup to uninstall the phone, then keep mobile networks unchecked and your good to go
edit I think it may still search for signal

installing them wouldn't solve your problem, now I'm thinking delete the prl and set it to roaming only but that would drain the battery fast, that's a toughy, lemme think about it a bit
edit it would be easy if you didn't need bluetooth
Nope, there's no real way to do it. You bought a phone, not an iPod. Live with Airplane mode or get service.
you could kill the radio process in os monitor, unsure of its exact name though
edit ill 2nd dr on this one, theres no good way
Get the app "Network" by Mangelow. It has a button to turn off just the radio.

I was looking for something like this too. In an area with very little signal, having the radio on is just annoying because it never gets signal, so it drains battery forever, even more because it is constantly scanning. This is perfect for that.
Now if someone could make a widget for this switch...
How does the battery drain? If sprint disconnected your phone it won't keep searching for a network. I have my old phone that laid for over 5 days without charge when I hot my evo... that was both the moment and intercept

It will still actually be connected to the network, you just wont be able to make calls or get texts. This is required for all cell phones, so you can still call 911, or call the carrier to re-activate the phone if you ever want to.

No Service

Hello,
I've had my phone for over a week now and it was great until yesterday. Now I am unable to make any calls with it but data still works. I have attached some screen shots below. Any ideas on how I can resolve this?
The problem occurred 2 days after I flashed XWKE2. I tried a factory reset, no change. Then flashing to XWKE1, no change. Then back to XWKE2, no change.
Oh and the sim's not at fault, works perfectly with my I900 Omnia.
Ugh... samsung phones. My galaxy S and Nexus S both have this issue and it seems they still don't know how to fix it.
Usually I would just cycle airplane mode on and off to fix it. Sometimes that would cause the phone to never come out of airplane mode though... in that case I had to restart the phone.

O2 are suffering outage on their system at the mo. Just Google "O2 outage" for details.
Started yesterday and is continuing, they have engineers working on the problem.
try changing your radio band to gsm only..maybe that will help for some troubleshooting

They should really tell their affected customers when something like this happens. This most likely is the reason as I tried making a call using the same sim in my Omnia and it didn't work. Thanks for the heads up.

There was a theft of equipment at a site near London, and it knocked out a large area of the country...
Goodness knows why a site of such strategic importance is unmanned, but it has caused a large blackspot...
Looks like service is back up now, for me at least. I probably should have googled 'o2 outage' before I reflashed my phone, but now I've turned off sending google usage data so hopefully my battery life will improve.

Seems like yours might be more a case of ID TEN T error more than anything else because I've never experienced that on the Galaxy S or this Galaxy S II.

[Q] Moto Defy + call drop straight after dial while in 3G.

The minute I turn on my 3g any normal voice calls made from my phone gets disconnected within a second.
If I switch to Wifi / 2g the issue is solved!
I have tried Settings - Call Settings - Additional settings - Caller ID but the option of caller id itself is unselectable!! I have read many people saying to select caller ID and set network default fixing the problem but on my phone it is unselectable!
Please advice on how I can fix this problem! Thank you

No I am running stock 2.3.6 and havent done any updates since I got my phone 6 months back! The problem is still not resolved!
I beleive it is a problem with my carrier Airtel as they say that there is 3g upgradation going on in my area. But I still face this problem all around Bangalore!! I cant understand what is the major cause of this problem! I have used my sim in my friends Sony Ericsson Arc and there is no issue whatsoever! Im still waiting for a solution. Please lemme know if you find anything as well! Tx
I don't think its a problem with airtel because I'm facing this problem with vodafone, I m facing the same problem with airtel sim also in the same handset however same sims are working fine with other handsets.
Initially vodafone told it might be a problem in their network but after checking they confirmed that there is no issue with their network.
I feel its an issue with phone itself but know its related to hardware or software. Factory reset also didn't work, tried all possible ways that I could think of including replacing sim but no lucktill now.
I took phone to motorola service too, all they could suggest was to replace sim and factory reset which I've already done, only solution left is to give the phone for checking and they need 2 days to check if any fault is there.
Did your phone always had this problem or started recently? Do u remember making any settings in phone before this problem started?

You're right.. I guessed the same! Well this phone has been giving me this problem since January of this yr. Before that it was perfect! I cant remember making any changes in the settings. I have also done a factory reset but the issue isnt solved. I cant understand what to do now?! this really is getting irritating cause every time i have to make a call i switch off the Data using toggles widget and turn on again once done. I cant do this forever. Even the calls which I get from someone else gets cut in a second and appears as a missed call. I desperately need someone to suggest a cure for this!
Do let me know if you have made any setting changes recently . I ll try to remember if there is any common changes we have made and try to find a solution for this.

I also want to state that when my 3g was on before the issue began it used to be displayed as H - meaning high speed internet. Since the day I ve been facing this problem the H symbol changes to 3G - once this transition takes place immediately call gets dropped. I ve never seen the 3G being displayed before the problem.
Question: Does the 3G have to be switched off automatically once a call is made? Like for eg. if you re connected on wifi, even when you are in a call the wifi is still on and active in the background.
Is the 3G supposed to switch off automatically once a call is made just like it does when in 2g??
Some of the things I remember which happened before this problem started are:
1) I updated the firmware.
2) I kept a heavy bag on my phone by mistake.
3) I changed the phone's battery, I'm now using the an extended battery bought from eBay.
4) I changed the screen guard, using a matte finish guard now. (wondering if the solvents that they use while fixing the screen guard have any impact on this)
5) I started using the application Team Viewer a lot to operate my home laptop from office.
I've mentioned everything that I could think of, is any of this matching with you?
Its was a very good handset till this problem started, I don't want to buy a new phone just to fix this problem.
One more thing I observed is that this problem has increased over time, initially when this came to my notice 50% of the calls got cut while using 3g, but now all calls are dropped while using 3g.
The calls - both incoming and outgoing are working fine even if 3g is on but no data is being transfered. Once the call is connected 3g works fine. The problem is only in starting/initiating the call while 3g data transfer is happening once the call is connected 3g is fine.
Regarding my usage:
I've been using this phone very roughly from past one n half year, I use it regularly to download using both wi fi n 3g, I listen to music everyday using bluetooth n also watch many movies on my phone itself.
In short usage is very high n rough.
Could it be a wear n tear damage because of this?
Pls let me know if any of the mentioned points match with you which will help us locate the reason for the problem.

Well Sry but nothing in common! For me since the beginning of the problem, 100% of the calls are getting dropped! its been a month now. Do you face this problem in a specific area or all over town? Ive searched a lotta forums for an answer but to no avail! I dont know if rooting the phone will help!?!?! but that is my next step. Did you try going to Settings<Wifi and Networks<Mobile networks and selecting 3G only? FOr me the problem persists but i guess you should try this.
Hmm, problem is all over the town.

Same problem
I am EXACTLY facing the same problem. I have an AirTel sim and I don't remember from this problem got started. I tried restoring factory setting, flashing the phone in authorized service center and nothing helped. I was about to install custom ROM and just read this thread in the forum. I will wait for some more time to see if any of you is lucky enough to find a solution for it.
As a temporary workaround, I have changed the GPRS to 2G and its working now. In 3G, if I try making calls, the data connectivity will not be cancelled, but in 2G, as soon as you hit the green button, the data will be cancelled.
Please reply if you find any solution for it. Thank you!

1) Does anyone of you NOT use motoblur Account????
2) Does anyone of you NOT use google account in your phone?
I think the solution lies in the questions above. If you use either one, the problem will persist. Try to factory reset your phone and skip log in Motoblur and Skip google account sync. The problem should be solved.
No luck
As suggested by you, I did a factory reset and tried making call without adding Google account and it didn't workout. I had the same problem. I even tried adding another Google account (after wiping data) and same problem. I lost hope
I am gonna use my mobile with 2G only till someone finds a permanent solution.
Thanks for your help!

(RE-Edited)Please Help Me (Cuban XT-907)

I took this screenshots last night, the kernel wakelocks(smdcntl0 and radio interface) are causing the massive drain in idle state, i searched the forums and havent found anything regarding these two wakelocks, this is in Cuba were there is no internet usage whatsoever, no wi-fi, no gps, nothing, this happened after i left the phone one week in airplane mode and then, after a factory reset, inserted the sim back in, i`ve done various flash throught RSD with the latest firmware avalble and dozens of factory resets, ever since, i am fully stock, non rooted, and with the 98.18 build, any help will be appreciated, i am going crazy with this...

Ive been using the razr m for a month now, last week i used in airplane mode( i was testing other phone) and yesterday when i began to use it normally the battery burned very fast, in one day it was down from 100% to 14% it usually lasted from 3 to 4 days(in cuba we dont have internet in our cellphones, just 2g for calls and sms, no wifi, just database based apps and games and media playback). i am using the stock rom(4.1.2, sist. version 98.16.1), no root, bloatware disable, no gps,the only uncommon thing i did was a factory reset through the phone settings...

Airplane mode should have saved your battery tremendously (since it disable all radios) and 2g speeds should be a battery saver too, even in poor-fair signal coverage, and factory resetting should have cleared out any battery draining apps that you may have experienced before doing the reset. Have you been more active with the phone lately? From what you are stating you shouldn't really be suffering from heavy drain.
in the past month i used the same way and it lasted like 3 or 4 days(only 2g), i am not doing anything unusual with the phone(with no internet what can you do), only 2g and the occasional gaming, i resell phones here(in Cuba) so i know a thing or two about android and i can tell something weird is happening after the factory reset...thanks for the quick reply anyways...i never post anything here because of my slow LAN connection, right now i am updating through connectify(wi-fi) to the last OTA and see if that solves my problems...thanks man and sorry for my english...

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. don't update - that will lock the bootloader, thus preventing you from slapping on the latest/greatest custom ROMs...
well its updated now...i took out the micro-SD( a 16gb Polaroid class 10) and did another factory reset after the update and the problem continues...last night the battery burned in idle state from 100% down to 9%, i took a screenshot but don't know how to posted, i will do another factory reset (this time from the stock recovery) and see if that solves my problem, another thing i noticed is that after the update in the storage settings you can see like 7 different "usb modes" or something...i most say that i am impress by how fast you guys step up and help me and i wan to say that this is a great community...thanks
i think that somehow i screw the battery at a hardware level by doing the first factory reset, this is not a normal behavior...
Please anyone????
i flashed the phone with RSDlite(build 9.8.1Q-78-1) , did a cache wipe and a factory reset and the problem continues, can someone please tell me if flashing another firmware(the 9.8.1Q-66-1) can help me, i am getting 19 hours of battery( with the phone in idle state all the time)
19 hrs is good for battery life

could be that the phone signal is not strong enough and thus causing the phone to continue to search for a strong cell signal. might want to check the network settings.

i am having the best 2G(band 900MHZ) reception, i wish i could post screen shots so you can see, but my LAN connection is really slow(like 5kp/s), the kernel wakelocks are causing the massive drain, essentially this three " smdcntl0" , the "smdcntl1" and "radio interface" i flashed the 9.1.78 firmware through RSD and done a number of factory resets ever since and the problem continues, i really liked this device but cant live with this problem forever...now i don't know what to do next...

That's kind of what what I was thinking. Maybe it's searching for a data connection. He needs to disable data. Go to settings->more... ->Mobile Networks and make sure data enabled is unchecked.
