Is anyone even trying to crack this thing? I would REALLY like this thing to have root, it would be awesome. But I have to wonder if anyone is trying or even if it's remotely possible.

Hey, got JFs, been stable etc. I hear about people using Debian and so, which is nice, but is it REALLY worth it like OMG you should have it up there or is it more a hassle or not really all that needed? Just been wondering since I wouldnt mind the ability to do more with the G1, but the threads I read about it, aside from openssh, not really sure the high value it could bring from me. Plus what about when a new JF version comes out. Anyone have some input? Thanks. =)

i doubt it works on our phones, but sure someone could try this, worse case is a bricked phone, best case doesnt run at all on the phone to begin with i cant make head nor tails of adb so i wont bother to try this, not to mention i dont wanna brick my only work phone for 2 days before i get a chance to drive to sprint to have it replaced, but perhaps its something to look into?
ive read the thread before , pretty sure people have tried it but , whats one more thing to try?
yeah. read most of it. I believe that could work on the evos. HOWEVER, mine is rooted. so muhahahaha. I won't be needing to do this. lol!
seems like it could work, temp root is pretty useless though
Fr3vo does not work with our phones. Sorry, but no dice.
Alright so I had been using a Note1 for a little over three years, I'm in Canada and just upgraded to a Note 4. SM-N910W8 v4.4.4 currently. I haven't done much with it since I got it a week or so ago. I'm really unimpressed with some of the stock stuff that I can't get rid of and so I'm wanting to root it. One of the things I want to get rid of is the Facebook app because I don't like how many permissions it requires. I can't actually remove it from the phone, only disable it etc...
Anyways I'm wondering what else I can get from the Note4, I'm really unfamiliar with Roms but I think I get the basic concept. Anyone willing to explain it to me with the notion that I'm pretty much a complete noob?

If like You're saying, You are a noob, better stick with the stock rom. Besides, read the forum and You'll see what You can get
To get rid of stock apps You need root (CF-Auto root to find in this forum) and (my preferred way) Titanim Backup, from where You can uninstall whatever You wish.
Well I'm a noob to this stuff, but I feel like I'm fairly good with technology in general.
If I was looking for a light weight and easier to get into rom, do you have any suggestions?
I'm not the smartest with all of this stuff, but I was just curious now that 5.1.1 firmware is available and temp root works, if making a permanent root on tab 4 8.0 is possible, and if anyone is working on it. I'm sure it's not a top priority to make root for this old tablet. If it did come to be though, I'd be ecstatic. If anyone knows if it's happening, I would love to hear about it. Not trying to be pushy at all, and I appreciate and respect the smarts of all you devs out there. Thanks.

Anyone? Just trying to keep this thread alive and see if anyone might be able to help.
I currently have the LS-993 version of the G6 but it seems like on these boards all I can ever find things about are for the US997 variant. Both of these phones have the same specs and everything but I'm still a little hesitant on trying anything on my device with the thought about bricking it knowing my device is different. Does anyone know or have tried something like this on their device and everything worked out ok
What is it you want do "try" ?

Perhaps root and whatever else this phone is able to get without damaging it.
The next question is why? The phone works perfectly fine on it's own. What do you need to accomplish that requires root?
