I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, just let me know if this is the wrong place. I've been looking up stuff on previous phones on this website for years but I never did make an account until now. My question is, my S4 was fine one day, a SM-S975l (straight talk) I had it rooted and had twrp on the phone with a rom called Fenny rom (rooted debloated stock Rom), got bored one day and wanted to try out a different rom, so I found a cm13 rom that was for the straight talk s4's, it didn't work well so I reverted back to complete stock. Now my wifi doesn't work unless I go into the keypad and type *#0011# to turn of the wifi power save, this drains the battery and makes the phone hot. So I leave the power save on and don't even use the wifi because with the power saver on (*#0011# power save option) I try the wifi and it just connects and disconnects continually, I've wiped the cache, reflashed the stock Rom through odin, and I still have the same issues. I redid the twrp as well and have tried several Roms but none seem to work right. I am on the stock rooted rom and don't use wifi, and the battery dies quickly when I'm not even using it,went into the battery settings and "Device Idle" is really high. I have done everything I can think of and I have been stuck with this messed up S4 for quite awhile, sorry for the novel haha but if anyone can help i would REALLY appreciate it.

You have to do a full wipe when switching roms. A full wipe includes data, cache, dalvik and system partitions.
Try flashing with a PIT file. Flashing the rom with the PIT file will wipe the entire internal storage and repartition it. So make sure you backup everything.
Doing that will ensure you have the cleanest flash possible. A guide on how to extract the PIT file from your phone can be found here.
Alternatively you can try a different stock rom before doing any of the above.
Wow I'm still clueless, it's hard to find stock firmware for the phone because its straight talk, I managed to find 1, but it still has issues, I don't quite understand the deleting part, I do a full wipe when I do it, and the pit ordeal confuses me further :/
I did the commands but I do where the pit file has gone, can't find it anywhere. I hate this phone lol
Where did you search for the stock rom? I assume sammobile?
If the phone is not carrier locked you could flash any other S4 firmware. This works with the normal version S4, I do not guarantee anything for the carrier-branded S4s.
Nope, I couldn't even find the stock Rom on sammobile, I found it elsewhere and I cannot for the life of me figure this out, I'm about to trash the damn thing
I tried to extract the pit, but I have no idea where it saved too..
Try reflashing modem+wififix and bootloader
Thank you fanfzero, I can't find the software for this certain S4, is a SM-S975L (straight talk) there are no kernels, modems etc, not sure what you mean about the boot loader and wififix, sorry, just frustrated with it, been like this for a couple of months
Is this the rom: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-S975L ?
I have that one already I believe, I am so stuck. I was trying to fix it yet again last night for hours.
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/guide-sm-s975l-twrp-4-4-2-custom-roms-t3009757
Thanks audit, been to that site several times. Guess the phone is just screwed

What I want to do is install a stock non rooted rom, kernel, and recovery. I am not sure how to change recovery to stock either is it like flashing a rom? Please give me some links for these I can't seem to find them, besides the stock kernel I found that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------The reason I want the above is bellow, if it matters.-----------------------------------------------------
My phone is about 95% broken.
Before, every rom/kernel combination would randomly restart, it was my phone it self I believe.
I went to a stock rooted rom, but then it restarted, and my lock screen worked, yet my home screen was black all i could do was slide my status bar down.
After that i restarted my self and then it got stock forever on the screen where it says Samsung galaxy s4.
The 5% working part is my recovery, for the most part.
I keep having to do a full wipe, not just system wipe otherwise it says error unable to mount preload or i/o or a few other things, I have to system wipe before every rom attempt.
I tried several popular roms such as sacs and triforce and a few other roms and all the kernels also.
The phone will turn on, work for a little normally, then crash again and go into the infinite loading screen where is simply says galaxy s4.
This phone is only 3 months old, so I want to take it back to sprint being completely stock so they give me a new phone.
I need links to files I need, and if i am forgetting to change anything back to stock please let me know. Thank you.
I replied to you in the newbie thread, but to return to complete stock download the latest firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and install it with odin. Do a factory reset before and after install to make sure you have cleared out what ever is causing your problems. After this process you will be completely stock and unrooted. If you are still having problems after this it is probably hardware related.
Or at least i think its powering off - i punch in my encryption passcode, it goes to android splash screen, then zip...
I have been looking at other threads and searching (this forum is huge!) but not yet found an answer, certainly not one where i dont factory wipe.
The phone was on the official optus 4.3 firmware
What i did was I used Odin 1.85, and the appropriate CF auto-root from here (cant link yet, not enough posts)
Powered off the thing, took battery out for over an hour, twice, still the same
Just trying to re-root the phone so i can back it up again, it had been a while since using Titanium
Follow the typical instructions, seemed to go fine, it just gives me the green android screen for about two seconds after encryption key is put in and always goes off
I wiped the cache too, and i flashed the current firmware again using odin (Aus OPTUS 4.3 official) - still the same.
Anyone got any ideas for me>?

If your phone keep's turning it off by it self then try to use a spare battery.maybe the problem is the battery and check your battery as well if the serial number starts with BD and that should need to be change soon.

Tried two different batteries.
I would think it coincidental both would prove faulty right after i tried to root!
Thanks mate
I just wiped the phone - i had to get it working, ahh well
hey i was look for a way to reset root directory to default... on my s4 SGH-i337m i think some how flashing roms and stuff put something in there the is messing with my sound... because no matter what i do i cant get t sound working right again... it always cuts out and stops working until i reboot my phone.. i have tried everything like 6-7 roms and 3-4 different full stock roms and multiple flashes in odin.. with stock roms
so in there anyway to reset the ROOT directory ware the esf,etc,firmware,firmware-mdm,lib,mnt,persdata,preload,root,sys,system,data,dev,cache, etc............
will flashing Pit file with odin do this?
if not what will plz help....
Messing with PIT files without full knowledge of what you are doing is one of the surest ways to bring the phone. Don't do it.
Flashing your firmware (as describe in the Return to Stock section of the All things ATT guide) and doing a factory data reset takes you to stock. Given your description I think you have a hardware problem. I also had sound issues that got worse the longer the phone was up. Rebooting didn't "fix it" but made it less extreme (I got weird distortion / crackling). Factory service was required.
So this is my sad story..
I bought a second hand Samsung S4 (i337M Telcel) Unlocked, the day i got it, i tested in front of the seller everything was nice and smooth.. So i payed..
I was very excited and i proceed to make the Root proccess, at beginning i was having issues with the drivers and Odin, then i was able to fix it..
Anyways long story short i ended up with the ROOT, CYANOGENMOD CM11, and PHILZ 6.. The first day was working fine my cellphone.. (I must say i rooted in my life at least 4 devices even an S4 i9500 all of then with success and not a single problem.. Using them form months and even gears.. The latest was a Moto E..)
Ok so the i337M was working good since the first morning with the root, but in the afternoon it just turned off one time.. Was weird but i didnt pay much atention..
The second day i was listening music and suddenly it turned off, and since then the cellphone is not able to keep on for more than 10min..
Some times i can load the complete OS and ofter 2 min it turn off sometimes at the Samsung S4 logo turn off something i must say is that the Device every single time i turn it on, on the Samsung S4 screen says "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" in red letters, some people say it happens when the root process is not made correctly some says it normal because its rooted..
I already installed from Odin the Stock ROM from SamMobile, and the problem is exactly the same.. A friend of mine told me it could be the Logic Card AKA Motherboard.. But i want to believe its just a software problem.. Cuz' before i rooted cellphone was working..
- Download mode: Works like a charm not a single problem and basically its the only way i keep trying different options to install on the phone..
- Discovery mode: With CWM sometimes works good, sometimes it just turn off, with Philz runs good not turning off or something and its how i was able to wipe data, cache, dalvik, factory reset to the cellphone..
Im thinking in starting over like pretending i didnt do anything to the cellphone, try again the root, the rom, the PHILZ (dont know how to call it).. and hope for the best..
Any advice or reliable links where i can download the correct files for my S4 i337M.. You are basically the last reliable source i have to fix my S4 if you give up with me, then i must admit my cellphone has passed away ..
Hope you can help me thanks in advance and have an excellent day!!:good:
The first troubleshooting step (to determine if the issue is hardware or firmware related) is to flash back to stock with Odin. Since you have completed this step and find that the problem is still present, this suggests that it is a hardware problem.
I have seen a custom kernel cause sleep of death, which makes the phone appear to have turned off. But in those cases, flashing the stock kernel fixed the problem.
Perhaps you should see if you can return the phone to the seller for a full refund.

Thanks for your reply.. I still dont know how but with Philz recovery, i was able to make a full wipe, i mean it deletes everything every single folder previously made was erased, and i can tell you that because i have a folder called ROOM where i places my ROM, Kernel, etc.. So i can flash them in discovery..
So i erased everything and then proceeded to install via Odin the Stock Rom and guess what it works like a charm, not a single problem.. So, so far the cellphone is ok.. I tested for two hrs.. Now i tried to install a custom ROM and its doesnt load from the Samsung S4 screen jaja... But im still having acces to discovery and download mode so thats ok..
Just two advices.. Never ever download files from Youtube ****y links.. Always go to the source.. Youtubers are assholes.. Real help and information comes from real people that knows what they are talking about like this forum and also updated and real ROM's come from the main source not Mega o Linkbucks...
Other advice embrace your self to do it.. Study every single question you have in Android, from KERNEL to ROM and ROOT.. Isn't that difficult..
One more question, Which ROM with Lollipop would you suggest to install i have the i337M?

May I make a suggestion? Now that you have the phone working, can you possibly just use it for a week without doing anything to it? Don't try to root it or do anything other than text, make phone calls, and install a few programs. This will establish a baseline of behavior for your device, so you'll be able to tell when its behavior is out of the ordinary.
I understand your desire to make it your own. I got my S4 brand new from AT&T and said that I would wait at least a month before rooting it or changing roms, in case there was a problem and needed to return it. I had good intentions, but I couldn't stand it anymore and rooted it after only 3 days! It will take a lot of patience, but you really need to use it for more than a few hours to make sure that the hardware is okay.
I agree take baby steps, week stock, week root, week recovery. Figure out if its hardware or one of the steps is causing it.
Hi!
Just got myself Note 4, and after rooting and installing TWRP I started looking for ROM that fits my needs. And here goes the strange thing - after tryign few ROMs, now the only ones that will work are Omega, Emotroid & CMRemix. All others after flashing keep rebooting. That is, system starts, and after 30 secs to 1 minute there is reboot. AND - they don't see the SIM card. Those that work do.
I tried to revert to basics - tried FULL erase from TWRP, reflashed via ODIN original roms (those started no problem), but when in tried again - the same. Other ROMs keep crashing.
So, does anybody have an idea how to totally wipe a phone ( I mean, totally, just leaving ODIN flashing capability so that I can reflash it)? I suspect that there must be somethign somewhere that stayed after one of the ROMs. And what puzzles me, those ROMs that now crash it, were working prevoiusly.
Any ideas/advice will be appreciated.
Thanks!
