Did a search, but "A2DP Volume" returns mainly headset reccomendations etc.
Just got a Altec lansing T515. Bargain at just £15 inc p+p!
Paired up fine with the HD2 and seems to work great so far (for the price).
My only dissapointment is that the volume controls on the phone do nothing to the volume of the headset/speakers.
I was really planning on getting some good use out of this wireless audio through a better amp and speakers but would really need to be able to use the HD2 as a remote control (Inc volume control).
Is there an app/utility/reg hack that will let me adjust the A2DP volume directly on the HD2???
Any and all advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
try it with windows media player and not the htc sense music player
Thanks mate, tried that.... same deal (almost).
When I adjust the volume inside WMP it still does nothing to the volume of the speaker/headset BUT when I press the mute button or lower the vol to 0% the sound on the BT Speaker DOES mute.
Also at one point I did get some funky 'pairing' problem where the wireless volume was changing using the HD2 volume rocker but the sound quality was terrible. Not sure what happened but I switched off/on bluetooth and when the devices paired again - the sound was back to good quality but the volume no longer worked.
Can anyone please confirm that I should be able to control the volume using the HD2 on ANY A2DP headset/speaker?
I'm currently using EnergyRom Maxsense 23xx 24th July.
Might switch to the 21July 23121 CHT ROM instead to see if that changes things.
But can anyone first please confirm that this SHOULD be working? or let me know of a regHack /cab/app I need to use or apply to get this 'remote volume' working?
Anyone help on this ^^^ please?
Same problem here with expensive Sony headset and reasonably priced JVC. Report it to HTC as a fault. No fix yet afaik
hmm well im getting my jaybird sportsband in a few days through mail, ill report in on if they work or not
This problem i have with all my bluetooth headsets ( i have had 3 ) and also have with the altec lansing soundblade (a bluetooth speaker - really cool)
the problem is that the volume control in software only effects the audio drive,a but A2D2 driver is on a different path so not affected.
For me has not been a problem because volume is always outputted at max via A2D2 and then i use volume control on the headsets or the speaker to reduce as required.
But i see if you have a headset without volume control then this can be a major problem.
Only method i did find to adjust volume via software was install SRSwow and in the options it is having 2 gain settings, input and output. Adjusting these does affect A2D2 volume.
I know its not a fix but it is a work around that may be usefull untill someone has a better option for you
Thanks very much for your input peeps!
rumpleforeskin: (Funniest name Ive seen all week lol)
Sounds like its not just a problem with my headset/speaker (or headset / ROM combo).
Ive got volume controls (which do work) On the headset adapter and on the speaker, but I REALLY want/need to be able to control volume remotely as I was planning to link the adapter to an amp without a remote control.
Looks like SRSWow might be the solution for now....I'll give it a try and report back tonight.
Thanks again for all your help chaps.
I actually fear this could be a demonstration the output audio is hardware wired and not software driven, thus meaning full incall recording will never be possible.

doubt it man, on the iphone 3gs on 3.0 u couldnt switch the volume of the headset through the phone but now with the 4.0 software u can , so its just a case of misssing software.
I use tcpmp and I can control the volume from the software while using my BT headsets (peltor)

Tried this ^^^, Works great for everything, thanks!
Only slight problem is a ~4 second lag between adjusting the volume and the change in actual volume.
Dont suppose there is any tweak to remedy this??
Thanks again for the help.

This ^^^ works perfect! No lag when changing volume or anything! Great for music and video.
Thank you very much!
Cheers guys.
$60 goes to the person who finds a way to get this working!
This is a random issue that I've been having that's driving me nuts. I have the N1 car dock along with a Clarion CZ500 BT car stereo and everything is working fine... BUT I cannot change the media volume over BT while docked.
Why do I need to? Because my call volume is terribly low and I'm constantly changing volume levels on my car stereo and occasionally blowing out my ear drums when I forget to lower it as the call is ending and the music starts up again automatically.
If I had access to change the media volume, I could set the BT media volume at a comfortable level (with Tasker's help obviously ) when the phone is docked and not have to ever adjust my volume!
I'm wondering if this is actually a PowerAMP issue, but I can't seem to test the issue properly because I can't find a music player with a volume control slider.
BTW, I know that this is a docking issue because when I'm simply connected over BT without being docked the media volume changes just fine.
I'm running CM7 nightlies for the record.
Thanks!
PowerAmp seems to have some minor issues with bluetooth. Or it might be the combo of that and CM7 as it does odd things at times for me.
Does your headset try to tell the phone how to change volume, or are you doing it from the volume control on the side of the dock? I find that the built-in music app lets me change the volume just fine from the buttons but that poweramp seems to be a bit temperamental about it. (Although there was an update today that may have fixed it, I haven't checked yet).
My car stereo doesn't communicate the volume change to my device, it just adjusts the stereo volume.
I'm not controlling the volume from the physical buttons because the only ones accessible are those on the dock and those aren't connected when you're not connected to the dock via BT. I'm controlling the volume using the volume slider on PowerAMP.
As I change the volume using the PowerAMP slider, I see the display for "Media volume playing over Bluetooth" and the volume bar changes but it doesn't affect the volume. The only time the sound gets affected is when I get to 0 in which case it mutes.
No one has any other ideas???
Mine just works with my Sony XAV-70bt. I set the volumes once, and it just keeps them working. So my suggestion, sell Clarion, buy Sony. Can i have my $25?
But seriously, a lot of these head units have a separate builtin volume for the handset profile vs an a2dp. Mine has a phone call volume, then a separate BT Audio volume. You might run through your settings, find a different media player, or try another rom/kernel. Are you connected via physical 3.5mm cable from the Car dock to your Clarion, or using a bluetooth connection to it?
BT. There are no volume settings that I can find for the specific profiles.

So you want to be able to control phone volume from the head unit? I don't believe this is possible at this point. I suppose someone could build an interface using the AVRCP profile that would control volume. In theory it's possible.

I just want to be able to modify the media volume when I'm docked and connected via BT to the stereo. It seems as if the OS blocks a volume change when docked and connected to an external BT and I simply want to override that "feature".
As I stated above, if I'm NOT docked but still connected to the stereo via BT, the volume can be changed.
I battled the same issue for a couple of months. Solution: Tasker on the android market.
I have it set that when I dock my phone the media and in-call volume both max out. As soon as I un-dock it everything returns to the previous levels.
It's even cheaper than your $25 bounty
edit: just saw your tasker comment...so do you have it installed? or is it still not enough workaround for you? I have my N1 connecting to the bluetooth on the dock for calls, but i also run a 3.5 line-out into the aux port on my radio for music
Ya it's installed. But I'm running through BT. That's where the problem originates.
Maybe try contacting the PowerAmp dev or leaving a message on the forum on his site?
My BT head unit is in the mail so if you haven't got a solution by the weekend I'll be wanting to try the same combination so I'll check it out then.

I don't think it's a PowerAMP issue. I mean, I get the volume dialog and it changes as I "turn the knob".
Does anyone know of another music player that has a volume slider?
So NO ONE knows of a music player with a volume slider other than PowerAMP? I would like to see if PowerAMP is the culprit.
Obligatory bump.
Alright, I'll pay $40. Someone please!
Dropping too low!
Geez, patience dude. It's not that critical.
To me it is. And as soon as it's off the first page it's lost for good.
It's just frustrating that there are so many good devs here and no one wants to lend a serious hand.
Best of luck to you. I discovered that the volume is automatically reset when the phone is in the dock, regardless of what you set it to manually (even if you change it while it is in the dock, it immediately changes itself back). What you might need to be looking for is a modification of either the car home app, or of whatever protocols are responsible for the volume change.

Hello
I am looking for in-ear headphones which support play/pause, microphone and volume control. Preferably this should be accomplished by 3 buttons: middle button for play/pause and left/right buttons for volume control (just like on iOS).
I do not look for one-button or bluetooth solutions.
As I already searched on xda, I found those headphones:

- urbeats (htc version )
- Sony smart headset

I tested all of them on htc Sony Nokia lumia and Samsung galaxy phones

However, I do not know if they work with the Nexus 4 or if there are more headphones available.
Could somebody help me out here please?
I gave up looking for headphones with buttons like those because the main reason you have headphones/earbuds is because of the music or podcasts, with an occasionally call here and there...well for me anyways.
And IMO, the one button is good enough which can be found on most headphones. This "universal" button usually just plays, pauses, answers calls, and now a long press will launch google now.
However, you can add an app called Jays headset app or remotecontrol for earphones app. This will enable the number or clicks to determine certain functions like volume control. GL
the 3 button headphones dont work with this phone. It is my understanding that the devices that support the 3 button controllers have a special circuit that is not present on this phone. I have a samsung 3 button and htc 3 button headset that do not work on this phone. I have tried several of the apps that allow you to program the buttons but they did not help.
Just get a nice single button headset and be happy.
Could you recommend a good single button one? My HTC earphones are screwed and I'm looking for new ones for my nexus.

If you are looking for in ear headphones, you cannot go wrong with Kipsche or Shure's with the integrated mics. If you are on a budget, Jays One + for android is an alternative you can look at for decent in ears.
For over ears, there are so many to look at. You can look at any ones that function for "i" devices and they will work for our phones. It's that ONE button or middle button that is the only thing that you are looking for it to work with your phone.

Sigh. Thanks for the information. After no USB on-to-go and a crappy battery life now this. I wonder what will come next.
I guess I will have to look for good one button headphones and an app which supports altering the function of this button. Any recommendations for such an app?
During my time googling on this very issue i came across these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007IPKBA4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=AEUMIRKFWF0IJ
supposedly made by philips precisely for android. philips says: "Personalise your sound and buttons via the Philips Headset App" so..
however, and if i 'm not mistaken, they 're 1 button headphones - but as another person before me 's said, you apparently can determine what a certain number of clicks will do, so you probably can work around the issue.
i 'm probably getting a pair (not sure if i 'm going with these cause i 'm feeling like investing seeing as i 'm out and about a good chunk of my every day and am always listening to music - being a musician and an audiophile) next month - kinda tight financially atm , so when I do i 'll get back to you guys.
currently stuck w/ the apple headphones (not the earpods). mic works, middle button answers/ends calls and plays/pauses music - volume controls just won't work.
'nyways, hope it helped!

Does anyone else have a problem getting even a 1-button headset to work? It seems I can't even plug it in properly (sound is mono and without bass), and I tried really hard. I tested both an OEM headset that came with my ZTE Blade and a Sony MH650. Both used to work fine on the Blade but on the N4 - no way. Headsets without microphone (and one line less on the headphone jack) work fine.

I thought I was so smart researching this (in a non nexus 4 specific way) ahead of time, found some a 3 button headset 'made for android' by htc, and alas, only one button works. I have to go out of my way to find an apple compatible 3 button headset to work with my google branded phone? Geez.

No the three button headsets are far and between. I haven't seen any that work. I mean even my old N1 headsets don't work. Well the middle button works. The iPhone 3 buttons will not work either.
Just use the one button, which I actually prefer and use an app to map button presses to forward or back up. Tedious? I guess so, but I have no issues with one button headphones. I own a slew of them lol.
I can see where I misread those posts now. No 3 buttons work at all. That sucks.
But what about the people that claim that there are headphones that actually work with the three button?

The support for 3 buttons or not on an Android phone is up to each phonemaker. Samsung Nexus 3 works fine with 3-button headsets for Android, so does the S3, S4, and many more.. while Nexus 4 does not But the Nexus 5 does (!)
I have a Nexus 3 and 4 and I also actually think music sounds better through the Samsung made Nexus but perphaps that is just mental or the sounchip has something to do with it.

They also have a really well working headset app (works with any headset by the way) that makes buttoncontrol programmable, so you can choose what 2,3 or more clicks will do for U.

Hi,
I have a pair of xiami piston headphones and they work fine with my older phone (galaxy s3) but with my 6P they are not detected by the phone. I can't use them to listen to music or make calls.
I tried a pair of generic headphones and they do work. Is there some headphones that are simply incompatible with the device?
Yes I had the same experience. My samsung headphones from my galaxy s5 can't be used to make phone calls and if you try to use the volume adjustment buttons it pauses playback. Another pair of off-brand headphones I bought at duane reade work just fine for making calls. It is strange because w/ my galaxy I could use apple headphones or really any brand and they all worked fine. They should all work exactly the same.
I just hope this is a software compatibility issue with the in-line mic/controls and not a hardware issue. I have three pairs of pistons 2's that I used on a regular basis with my oneplus.

Isn't there an app that can remap the "input" it sees from the headphones?
I'm encountering issues across ALL headphones with inline buttons, including Sony, Beats, and the Project Fi headphones. I'm on my second device now (RMA'd the first to see if it was device-specific), and all exhibit the same issue: double-click to skip track fails when the device is locked after a certain number of presses, and recogntion of the inline button is generally sporadic when the device is locked.
HOWEVER! Everything is perfect when the device is unlocked! So this has to be a software issue, right?
i'm having issues where the headphones seem to be working, but the mute button is not muting the headphones (but they do mute the call). so i hear EVERYTHING in my ears. its like a weird loopback.

There was a thread about this, maybe it was you who posted it.
My S4i headphones can control music (pause/unpause) with the screen off. I have Smart Lock enabled with my Moto 360 though, so not sure if that makes a difference. I also finally updated to MDB08L this morning. I was stuck on MDA89D until I manually sideloaded the MDB08K OTA (then the MDB08L OTA was downloaded by the phone).
I just tried my V-Moda Crossfades and those still are not able to control anything with the screen lock or unlocked (last time I had used them was before the software update)

it wasn't such a nice feature as i was walking from my car and the mic was rubbing on the zipper of my jacket and i could hear it and the wind in my ears. if i covered the mic with my hand, the sound went away, so it seems like there is definitely a software issue.

I get that when using the Klipschs, but it's the vibration traveling through the wire and into my ears (since they are in-ear headphones), and it is annoying.
i use Apple EarPods. $29. love them.
My Xiaomi Pistons were the only set of headphones that didn't work at all (music played through front-facing speakers and not the headphones). All other headphones I own seem to have the same compatibility issues as all other Android headsets vs iPhone made headsets in regards to the in-line buttons working or not.
I hate in-ear/noise-cancelling/over-ear options since I use headphones while walking around the city and still prefer to still hear what's going on around me. Apple EarPods work but the in-line volume buttons don't work. Play/Pause/Answer/End button works fine though. My only other option that I've discovered is the Amazon Fire Headset. They are similar pods that don't isolate sound and all buttons on the headset work fine.

mine didn't work as well. however, my amazon ones worked and i could also use vol up and pause, but vol down wasn't working.
So now my headphones are working apparently, the inline mic controls, pause/play volume up and down now work.
Using the Sennheiser Mm30g.
The Bose QC25s work like a charm along with the inline controls.
But...you need to buy the "made for Android" version.

Since getting my G7 Power I noticed that music I listen to through the BT FM transmitter I have in my car comes through noticeably quieter than it did with my previous phones (Note 4 and OnePlus 5). I am trying to see if a volume amplifier app out there actually works or not but I can't seem to get the desired results. Does anybody here have any similar experiences or insight?
Thanks.
