I hope you don't have this happen to you! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Since I have had the gs7 edge, when streaming iHeart radio, the phone will randomly reboot about once an hour. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app; it made no difference.
Today when it rebooted it prompted me for something about "advanced features" then it continued on.
When it finished rebooting, I noticed that:
My edge panels weren't there any more.
When I pulled down from the top, I didn't see any notifications.. Now when I pull down, I only get a couple of rows, and no notifications at all.
My quick settings were unavailable to me; only a few at the top row
When I clicked on the gear icon in the upper right, it did nothing
The home button no longer worked.
The only way to get into settings was to go to the app drawer and click on the settings icon
My always on stopped working.
I rebooted, to no avail. I went into the settings and attempted to verify that my edge panels were turned onand they were, the aod was turned on, and it was,and now I guess I will need to do a factory reboot to get this phone to work again.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Help! Several major issues on 4.3 (home button, SIM, lock screen)

My N4 was away to repair a broken screen. Got it back on Wednesday and it immediately updated to 4.3. All was well, except for one weird issue where hitting a notification from the pull down would take me to the app via the pattern lock. I put this down to having played with some lock screen settings in Setting Profiles app (trying to disable it in certain settings), but it might not have been.
I've done the first device restart today, and after rebooting there are a few big issues.
1. I don't appear to have any mobile network, though wifi is connected. I had a good signal before the reboot.
2. I'm not getting a lock pattern or any lock screen at all, and it's not asked for the SIM pin
3. Hitting a notification in the pull-down makes the 'lock' clicking sound as it takes me to the app
4. The home button doesn't work. I see a slight dim of the screen and it makes the lock click sound, but nothing happens. Back and multitask work fine
Help! Any ideas? Are they known issues? Can't seem to find any reference online.
I'm on stock, using Nova Launcher

Those are not any known issues or anything I have read since Andrid 4.3 came out. Try a factory reset to see if that solves the problem. If not, maybe the screen wasn´t the only thing broken on your device. Ask for warranty.
Thanks, will see how I get on this evening and try a factory reset if it doesn't fix itself.
Seems to be a weird problem related to the lock screen and when it should/shouldn't kick in...

Glad I could help.
Ok, I've done a factory reset. Not had much chance to play as it took hours to reinstall everything. But I've just had the word issue where selecting something from the notification tray (the setting profiles shortcut) took me to the lock screen to put in my pattern first, then took me to the app.
EDIT no pattern to when it does it, seems random and can be while I'm using the device, so the lock screen shouldn't kick in for any reason
Any ideas? Faulty device?

Help S7Edge Nougat - Two finger scroll/tap (talkback off) won't go away

Hi together,
just was able to update to upgrade to Nougat. (O2 Germany)
I just have one big problem. I have to control the screen like Talkback is activated. But it isn't. (two finger scroll, tap and so on)
Does anybody have an idea how I get rid of that really annoying thing? If possible without factory reset. My Phone isnt rooted.
My Google and forum search hasn't helped me. The answers were always turn off Talkback, which it is already.

I had the same problem yesterday after the update, took some time to change back to normal behavior: restarted in safe mode, changed the resolution back to WQHD, changed some accessibility settings, like turning it on for Nova Launcher and turn off optical reader (I don't know why it was turned on...). After that I restarted to normal and seemed to work ok but then I turned on the accessibility feature optical reader again, too see what it does and the screen was only with 2 finger operable again, so I turned it off.
You can disable/remove Talkback in the application settings. Try in safe mode if it's not possible in normal mode. I tried to change the Talkback settings in the system settings (searched for Talkback) and it said in a pop-up that it isn't compatible with the system, so I removed it completely.
Thank you so much norti!!!!!!!!! Had the same issue with S7 (T-Mobile USA), and your advice helped!!! Actually, it was the only one I could find so far
Thank you Norti
Thank you so much. I had the same problem after performing the software update over night last night. I was so frustrated with it and the techs at the sprint store spent an hour with my phone and could not fix it. The techs recommended that I back up all my contacts and everything and then do a factory reset. I did not want to do a factory reset and searched the internet for a long time before coming across your post. I turned off optical reader and it fixed the two finger problem. Thank you so much for sharing this as I would have been lost without it.
Exactly the same happened with my S7 edge, almost drove me crazy before I figured out that it was Optical reader in accessibility that caused the problem.
That worked
Thank you for the correct fix post. Optical Reader off did it for me, too. Spent all morning wading through "Cool features of Nougat" and getting ready to break my S7 while calls were coming in...

I figured that it had to be the optical reader as that was one of the incompatible apps it reinstalled after the upgrade. Had to use two fingers to get through most menu-options, frustrating, to manage to disable it. Glad to see I wasn't the only ripping my Hair out experiencing this issue. Hope they fix it.
For future reference (in German):
This works:
Einstellungen > Eingabehilfe > "Text & Bildscanner": turn off ("Aus")

Navigation bar buttons as text

So this is what happened yesterday.
The battery was almost empty. I could get the message that the phone will shut down automatically. That empty. Then I wanted charge the phone, but when i putted the usb into the phone ,the phone shut down immediately.
After charging it up for a while I started the phone up again and since then the navigation bar buttons are showing as text in stead of circle and square. See the enclosed picture. I have no idea how to get it back. See the enclosed picture for the screenshot. It seems like the pictures are removed or something.
My phone is not rooted. Any ideas how to check what happened and get it back to circle and square without root?

That is very strange indeed.
Have you tried changing / experimenting with the settings for this feature?
Try it in Settings > Smart assistance > Navigation bar
Also, completely shutdown & reboot the phone a few times (not restarts).
If nothing helps, you may need to try a hard reset - but only do as a last resort & after a thorough backup.

Solved!
Changing the buttons in smart assistance > navitation bar didn't help. The buttons change from position but the text stays.
Reboot or shutdown and reboot didnt help either, BUT doing this after cleaning the cached data solved the problem.
Thanks! Now I don't have to hard reset.
hi..try to change the teme....you have installed a complete theme..and this cud changed the nav bar

S8 icon long press issue

To day I noticed that if I long press an icon on my home screen the menu to remove, disable and app info no longer pops up.
I tried several things but nothing helped so I did a factory reset that resolved the issue.
Setting my phone up I noticed it started again and realized the last thing I did was enable developer mode and disable the animations, old habit form S3 days.
I disabled the developer mode and everything is back to normal.
So just a heads up for those who have a similar issue.

you saved my day.

No incoming texts over night until morning; they never show up

Hi folks,
I've got the 6013 model in the US, running on AT&T, completely stock never rooted, fully updated to 10.3.11. Either the most recent update, or the one before that, seems to have caused an issue where texts sent to me overnight or in early morning before I first use the phone never show up. I've missed some important notifications due to this. The worst thing is they NEVER show up... they aren't just delayed until I wake the phone up. After I start using the phone, new texts make it through just fine. The phone seems to be sleeping deeper or something and not getting any of these cellular-based texts. Emails and other notifications based on wifi internet seem to be showing up fine.
Do not disturb is NOT enabled (and, I've tried toggling it on and off without change). This has been going on for weeks or longer, multiple reboots, etc.. I've checked my default texting app (Textra) and the phone's built-in Messages app... the texts aren't in either app. They just never show up.
What else can I look into to check the cause of this and hopefully a fix?
Thanks!
As a test today, I sent a text from my work phone to my personal OnePlus when I got up (late! Father's Day!) before interacting with my OnePlus at all. It did receive the text just fine. I think the cellular radio may be on some timer and going to sleep / waking up on some sort of schedule. Where are the settings for controlling this kind of thing? I haven't messed with this phone's settings much... it just worked fine out of the box and ever since for the last two and a half years until recent update messed this text thing up.
Further information: In Settings, Battery, Battery Saver is OFF (I've never enabled this) and under battery optimization I noticed Textra was set for Intelligent Control; I've toggled this to Don't Optimize. "Messages" was not present; I never use it.
Is there anything else to try? Note that the phone is plugged in and fully charged at the time these issues are occurring.

Dude, not sure but hope it will work,
anyway trying will cost nothing...
Go to settings > battery > battery optimization >
hit on upper right 3 dots and select advanced optimization,
then be sure " SLEEP STANDBY OPTIMIZATION"
is toggled OFF.
Try again and cross your finger...
Cheers

Thanks @Dadditz , that was already off. Sigh. Not sure why this happens. I've tested when I get up at 7 am, sending a text from another phone, and my 6T receives it, but during the darker hours of the night, no joy. Thanks for the reply, though.
Just as a follow up, the problem seems intermittent. I got some 4 am texts from my sump alarm when the wifi went down briefly. No idea what's going on, but it's intermittent rather than constant.
