PRL, how to change: - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was in the mountains of Gatlinburg TN over the weekend, signal in and around the cabin we were in was horrible. In the past when we would go, I could change to a Verizon prl and get awesome coverage (I'm with Sprint). Is there a way of doing this with the Nexus 6P? I had a Samsung device the previous few times we visited.

Do you mean change to a custom prl? If so I haven't seen anything like that since the Galaxy Nexus.

That's not how you install a different prl of your choosing.

Wrote that under it.. BigRushDog (now on DU team was owner of EOS for years, I believe he did aod for custom prl for Galaxy Nexus. He's very cool and will respond to you if you tag him on G+ or even here. He's the one who can do this I believe. He just redid the nav bar pulse, fling, Smartbar on DU. Awesome dev!!

I think you mean using corporate Sprint PRLs, correct? These tend to allow roaming on Verizon. They also no longer exist. Just make sure you have PRL 55051 and you should be good. See this post and the ones linked within for more info:

Directly to your question, I never figured out how to flash custom PRLs on the Nexus 6P. I'm not sure its necessary anymore though.

New wireless carrier in the US?

While watching the FSU/Oklahoma game, a teaser came on for a new wireless carrier launching on September 26th.
Does anyone know anything about this? Here is a picture of the end of it I found on Twitter.

You really can't buy spectrum and build towers all over the country without a huge fcc paper trail. If its a "new" carrier, then its certainly a MVNO who is reselling access to one of the existing wireless networks.
Even that has a paper trail and I can't find anything about it. Just really curious as to who it is.
The logo looks like a "C"....
It might be a Clearwire launch of some sorts.... I wonder why more tech blogs/sites haven't mentioned it...
interested to see who this is.

small world... I've been looking at different logos and cox uses blue... comcast has a deal with sprint and clearwire already so that could be another possibility... but whatever it is, it's being kept under wraps pretty good...
Maybe Cellular South? I hear they've changed their logo to match that "C".
We dont have the stores here in Houston (But I almost switched to them back when i was in Memphis, TN).
They're probably lining up to be the new T-Mobile...
Pretty sure it's cell south as well, now.

They are top notch down here... best coverage hands down. Data isn't as fast as some of the other guys, but you have coverage damn near everywhere in MS with them.
Yep... Cellular South
They are changing to C Spire Wireless....

Finally! A smart phone that does everything I ask of it!

Probably a stoopid thread, but I can honestly say that this thing rocks!
Every smarty phone I've had to date had multiple things that made me go ARGGGGGHH.
my SIII has done everything I've asked of it. Bluetooth, data reception, wifi, phone reception etc has all been spot on.
Usually at some point on my previous phones I'd go.....wtf !?! But honestly, I have not said that yet. I've found that if it was unfamiliar or different than my previous phones, I usually like it once I figure it out.
Now Tmo's reception......not so good.
But I like Tmo though. After many bad experiences with other carriers, they've been a pleasure, over all, to deal with.
Positive rant over........
True. This phone is excellent. A joy to use and even after I have all my apps and settings loaded it is still lightning fast. Oh and the camera is great.

Well that s4 proceessor handles a lot of that too. Qualcomm deserves some credit.

A different experience compared to our G2x's isn't it? Loving mine so far. You're in Texas so you may like this. I found a nice case at the T-Mobile store that is silver. Combined with the blue phone it looks great and is Dallas Cowboys colors!

Well, mine won't do wifi tethering, FM radio, toggle LTE, or several other things. But that's all thanks to AT&T, not the phone itself

[/IMG]If there is I missed it. Just a quick shot with zoom. Love the camera and the video I took was great.
Looks like we don't have one feature I loooove on the GS5. Selective focus. Why did they not include that? other than that, I like the camera
you can add it.
I have selective focus..
Went to the zoo today...didnt play with camera settings too much. Some of my faves outta hundreds of pics.

Never mind. Found it. I wasn't paying attention...
Coming from the Note 3 I knew the camera was going to be better but didn't expect to be wow'ed this much... My favorite I've been playing with is selective focus.

Nexus 5x T-Mobile speeds

I have to admit, after ordering my Nexus 5x i was a little worried thinking the lack of Band 12 til T-Mobile/Google gets it sorted out was going to give me crap signal. Boy was I wrong! [emoji1] Obviously this is all relative to location, but I couldn't be happier with these results and willing to wait for official Band 12 support.

While I don't see speeds that high, I do agree on being pleasantly surprised with the 5X speeds on T-Mobile. I get considerable higher speeds than I did on my Moto X 2014, and LTE signal in a couple places the Moto would drop to edge. Considering Moto has a reputation for having some of the best radios, I was happy to see a noticeable signal increase with the 5X.
T-Mo user here as well. I have to say this is the strongest radio I have had in a phone yet. I even get a signal in my basement without band 12. Well done LG.
I´ve seem similar results on att. Much faster than any previous phone i've had.
It's also nice how the phone can take voice calls over LTE without falling back to H or H+. Can browse the web wile on hold

Has speedtest app been updated in the last 2-3 years?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
H0tep, it was just updated last week.
I'm getting similar speeds on Sprint when I'm at work. At home though, i get about 1/3 that.

Well, my Verizon only gets 68.47M download speed. so sad
Since I moved my SIM from my Moto X Pure Edition to the 5x I've only been able to get a connection of 5mb down and .50mb up. Not sure what it could be

T-Mobile GPRS settings

That's the name I'm seeing on my device and under in small print it says
Fast. T-Mobile. Com my data speeds are 1-3mbps normally see 35+ . I called T-Mobile to no avail. I thought GPRS WAS 2G?

I'm pretty sure that as long as the APN settings are correct, it doesn't matter what the actual APN is named. Are you on an unlimited plan and if so do you consume a lot of data each month? They may have slowed you down temporarily if you're in your area's peak hours.
I have same settings but it's LTE, that's the proper setting. Worry not the name

Ok thank you all and I'm on unlimited but have been on WiFi.. I know my note 4 pulls 35+ down but this nexus is barely getting 1mbps.... Customer service tried to say unlocked devices may not receive the same speeds etc

Its rare that a Customer Rep would know the correct answer, you'll get 10 different answers from 10 Rep's!
I changed my apn from default to the Nexus 6 settings....a quick Google search will take you to the T-Mobile support page. Haven't had an issue, except sometimes mms doesn't send, and I'll get duplicate messages especially from my girlfriend's iPhone 6s plus
