When marshmallow came out, it was touted that T-Mobile was one of the few providers that native android VVM (in the phone app) would work since it was carrier specific. This is something everyone misses if they go from iPhone to Android.
But, my S7 Edge is missing the feature, the only option is t-mobiles ****ty VVM app that I already disabled along with all of the other t-mobile bloat. What gives?
Blame Samsung. They use their own phone app which doesn't include visual voicemail. The default Google Phone app does. If you have the Exynos version, you might be able to root and sideload the Google phone app to get your visual voicemail.
Just install Google Voice from the play store.
But with google voice, you still make calls out of the default samsung phone app and then have to open the google voice app for visual voicemail, right?
Basically, theres no way to get phone / contacts + visual voice mail in the same app?

No way to do it other than going stock. The dialer Samsung uses is their own so it doesn't have it built in.

You can sideload the Google dialer & contacts without root, and disable the Samsung dialer with Package Disabler Pro.

From my experience (because I don’t have any voice mails right now), it’s integrated in the call history tab.

OK - these are the settings of the Google Phone app, there is no voicemail tab:
And if you go into the original phone apps settings, voicemail settings are greyed out. I found somewhere online suggesting to clear cache to phone app and pull sim / reboot, but there was no change.

I remember on my droid there was an option to send numbers directly to vmail. Does this phone have it? Or just block the number? An available app?

You can also try mr number block in the app market it's the best one I've used yet

I'm trying to remmber what the option is but if you have launcher pro installed you can block numbers with it. You don't have to be using the launcher though. If I remember right, start up launcher pro and press on the screen like you are adding a widget. Select shortcuts then activities. Depending on home many apps you have installed it can take a little bit for the phone to build this list. When it comes up scroll down to call settings, select it then scroll down to auto reject list click on it. It will make a shoetcut on your home page. Click on it and add numbers. The shortcut can be erased and the numbers will stay. Also you don't have to be using launcher pro for it to work.

Ditto! This is fantastic. My wife and I have been getting spammed by a couple of numbers lately and she will be very pleased to know this.
AOSP roms have the option to send a number straight to voicemail in the contacts list but any blacklist app in the market will do this.

I use a profile in Tasker. When a phone # I specify rings, it picks up the phone, and then hangs up.
I am, however, working on something a bit more devious. Tasker will do just about anything, so I've gotten my hands on an audio file that does the "Doo doo deep! Your call could not be completed as dialed, please hang up and try again."
I've written a profile that will pick up the line, mute the microphone, and play back the audio file on a loop until the caller hangs up. Going to test it when my girlfriend gets home from work.

The telemarketer dialers are setup to remove the numbers that get that kind of response. That would be an excellent app!!!

You can log into your sprint.com account and add numbers to block texts from also.
I loved HTC sense for having the option to send contacts to VM
but best software is EXTREME CALL BLOCKER
anyone who disagrees has 3 nipples
also if anyone doesn't know
TEXT 9999 with block "number" (without quotes)
its sprints service to block text. worked well with some creepo gurl I had to block. Works well for short codes too.

Mine was on by default due to the 10 day trial and then it was switched to the off after a notification saying I could pay for the service, trial expired. I enabled it again with apex shortcut and it works great. We will see if I get charged premium charge.
Oh snap this is a paid feature...
Not sure where you found the trial. I searched and nothing came up on my phone
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
The trial popped up when I activated the phone. I didn't accept the agreement, but it started anyways. After I reenabled it, I checked my account and I don't see any charges yet. It doesn't work for all numbers though (not the phones fault, number probably masking info)
I have it on and it seems like it doesn't work. I got a few bogus calls that it didn't filter.
This did not work for me. Then today I was poking around in the settings and got it to work. I went into Applications in settings and then in the top right enabled system apps. I scrolled down to smart caller ID and clicked it. I went to permissions and enabled contacts.
Anyway an hour later I got a call from a family member from their home phone. I do not have this persons name saved in my phone. It said their first, last, and middle initial right on the screen. I was like wow it's working. So naturally I went into package disable pro and turned it off LOL. I tested it again with the same caller and this time it didn't show their caller ID, only their phone number. I tried to re enable the feature and have not been able to get it back since. If someone can try these steps and see how it works, maybe we can figure it out.
Kept messing with settings and it started working again. Rebooted and it went away.
Yeah this is definitely not working. The option to identify unsaved number Era is on but when I get a call from a unsaved number it doesn't identify the number.
Not working for me either.

Hey guys. Since this is my first thread, any help/instructions would be welcomed.
While messing around on my Nexus 5x I got a notification from Google Connectivity services telling me if I wanted my phone to auto-connect to open wifi hotspots automatically through a VPN(Virtual Private Network). If you don't know, a VPN sends your data encrypted through a Wi-Fi network. The data is then unencrypted by the VPN server, and is sent to the requested location. This is useful if you want to use an open network but don't want people to be able to spy on your browsing. After exploring a little, I found out how to set this up.
Requirements
A recent Nexus smartphone or tablet running android Nougat
The latest version of google connectivity services
Navigate to Settings>Google>Networking.
Enable wifi Assistant.
It's as simple as that. Whenever you come across an open network, your phone will automatically connect to it through a vpn.
Thanks
I was under the impression they opened up Google Connectivity Services beyond Project Fi users to all Nexus users, so do you really need to download this separately?

As Droid Life said, the feature is coming soon. Until its full release, this is the only way to access this otherwise Fi-only feature. I have no networking feature in my settings, and unless you do, I believe this is the only way to access this feature at the time of this post.

Has anyone in the UK got this feature yet ? I'm stock rom, unbranded, unlocked phone all updated.
Not on my phone in the UK yet, but the feature is apparently rolling out as a server-side change. Could take up to a few weeks for it to get to everyone.
I use Gmail as my default mail client, and I have noticed that I cannot get the preview pop-up for incoming new messages like I do for SMS. Apparently the only app that does it for me is Floatify, but I was wondering if there is something better available in the market?
Am I the only one who really missed that feature on Gmail?

Yup, that's what I was talking about. Only way to get them is through a 3rd party app like Floatify. I'm wondering if it's because of Nougat?
Go to optimise battery usage & turn off the gmail app there & check.
Turn of edge lighting. You will get the popup then.
Its the new edge lighting pop-ups that replace the regular heads-up notification
Guys i tried both things but Gmail unfortunately doesn't show any popup when a new message arrives. Try!
Found it. SOLVED!!!!
