I got a otg-cable which has a USB port and a SD/micro SD card slot. It works fine (I can browse files when tapping on notification icon, card is empty/formatted), however, does anyone know where it's root folder is located? I can't find it with rootbrowser or root explorer.
Tried /mnt/ but there's nothing related, not even ext-sd, only the usual SDCard (internal storage), and i tried most other folders, just can't find it...
I want to backup my flashable (ROM) files from internal to my SD card without the need for a PC (which i currently don't have).
I'm using CM13.0 Snapshot on a G2-d802

Just a thought: If the drive is indeed mounted and accessible, you could try the "df" command in Terminal Emulator to see a list of partitions and their mount points.
I have already found it. Apperantly i did not get through all folders in "/mnt". It's root-folder is located at "/mnt/media_rw/XXXX-XXXX/". I'm not sure how i messed that the first few times.

My application has a backup/restore feature that writes a csv file to a directory named after the app, in the root of the sd card. I have a user trying to move from one tablet to another. The backup feature appears to properly be creating the backup file on her SD card. When she places the SD card in her new tablet, the backup file and the directory it's stored in do not appear to be on the SD card at all. Apparently she was successful in having other data from other apps move over.
I've walked her through everything I can think, including writing a test app to verify the issue. Without a doubt, the files exist on the old device, but don't exist when installed in the new device.
I'm unsure what the original device is, but the new device is a Dell Streak 7.
Anyone seen this before? I'm leaning towards corrupt SD card, but it seems it's my burden to prove as my app is the only app she's having issues with.
The root of /sdcard is not necesarrily the SDCARD you can remove and take out.
/sdcard is usually part of the build in memory which can be accessed and used by the user.
The SDCARD you can remove is usually found at /sdcard/external_sd on Android 2.2 devices and /sdcard/sd on Android 2.1 devices.
Yes the naming is a bit confusing .

That would certainly explain some things, especially if a user is moving a SD card from one device to the next.
My app creates a folder under the path returned by the Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() function, where it creates and reads a backup file.
My documentation asks users to connect their device to a computer, mount as USB, and copy the backup file into that directory. This user is simply moving the SD card between devices. I'm wondering if there is a better method than using the getExternalStorageDirectory that I can use, so that I can have a common location on all SD cards to facilitate users moving cards between devices.

Well it depends on the device what happens if they mount as usb,
if they get the internal sdcard or the external sdcard or both.
On my galaxy i9000, both the internal(/sdcard/) and external (/sdcard/external_sd) are shown when pluging it into my computer and mounting it as usb.
Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() will always return the path of the users storage enviroment which is in usually /sdcard . Thats fine so far.
The problem is there is no function to get the external storage (/sdcard/external_sd or /sdcard/sd).
The only option i know atm, would be to probe manually if such a directory exists. You can use Build.VERSION.SDK_INT to see which android the user has and check the right directory.
Build.VERSION.SDK_INT <= 7 would mean if he has plugged in an external sdcard it would be mounted under
Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() + "/sd/"
Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >=8 would be
Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() + "/external_sd/"
You could use that and maybe a "import backup" function to check for the file on an external sdcard?
ok i'm using taboonay 2.0 with Thor's 3.0 kernel. I can see all the files on my SD card through root explorer and if i take the card out and hook it up to my pc. My question is why when i plug my iconia into my PC i can see the card, but can't see any files on it? Wasn't 3.2 supposed to fix this or it something on my end? haven't tried to reformat it cause it isn't a big issue to me just trying to figure out why.
i have sorta similar issue. I can access sdcard in root explorer or other apps, but if i pop it out it get interesting. I can still browse the sdcard contents in any file explorer even though i am holding it in my hand. Also i have not been able to access the sdcard from the latest clockwork recovery. The only directory there is LOST. So i take it to the pc and same thing, only the LOST directory, pop it back in the tablet, fire it up, browse to /sdcard directory, all the files i have downloaded are right there still along with that LOST directory......
So i cant flash anything now. Tried reflashing CWR from the Acer Recovery Installer, no progress. Tried formatting sdcard on pc using the tool in the sticky, same thing, cannot access sdcard in CWR.
Help.
**update: so here's what i found, apparently there is a directory called sdcard on my tab that is actually local system memory. It has all my downloaded files in it. I mounted the tablet with USB to my pc and moved one of the files to the sdcard(which is empty by the way, everything is going to the local ram for some reason) and rebooted into recovery and then it showed up in CWR!
So all this time my tablet has been syncing my google music beta music for offline use, around 10 gigs of it, and it dumped it all on the local memory so now im almost out of ram.....with an empty sdcard.....great

Ok So I am here because I've posted in other places in these forums with no replies yet, So it would be better to create a thread specific to my problem.
I have an Omnia 2, thinking of acquiring the Fryo 2.2 OS, not specific about wether I want what version but here are the problems I come across before being able to install it.
1- plugging in my phone under Settings -> My storage will not show my storage on my computer, having the external SD option will show my 16GB SD card.
2- Backing up. How do I back up my storage if I can't see it on my computer? When I turn on active sync a blank storage appears other than my SD card (assuming its the internal storage) but the size seems rather small (167MB). I've been reading peoples' posts and I'm supposed to have around 2GB I believe, and either way the files I'm trying to put inside for the android OS don't seem to fit there.
3- Partitions? How can I set those up for both the internal and external storage? Is there a program or feature to do so? My SD card under properties says FAT-32 so I'm not sure on how to do it IF I need to.
4- Using a W7 computer, so that knocks off any ubuntu installations, and also link is broken for Almars Beta 1 file that I was thinking of using for an SD installation.
Any help would be appreciated, I've had this phone since 2009 and I'm really hoping I can come across some help to make it work since I do want to keep this phone for a bit longer before I spend more money on a different cellphone!

It has the SD Card auto installer, try it..
Back up data on your SD card first and then format your SD card within the phone and then use auto installer to install it.
As you said your computer wont detect the My Storage, try the steps below..
Transfer your data from My Storage to external SD Card, then connect your phone to computer using My Storage mode in settings.
Download Mini Tool partition wizard and format your My Storage (Mini tool partition will be able to see your My Storage even though your computer doesn't).
After format, your computer should be able to detect My Storage.
Now copy the downloaded android files to My Storage and run the auto installer as instructed in the ReadMe file inside the download package.
PS: Don't forget to backup the data on SD Card to your computer

Ok so what you meant by taking things from my storage is going to file explorer and basically copying everything from the "my device" to the SD card?
Just want to make sure because if it doesent work then I haven't gotten anything backed up right.
Went to file explorer -> copied everything in the top folder which is application date, connMgr, doc and setttings, program files etc. is this all thats needed basically?

Update: My storage is still not revealed by the mini tool partition program, went under usb settings -> my storage and refreshed disk information, nothing shows up ugh it might be impossible for me to do this after all....

I guess you will have to reflash the ROM again since your problem seems to be unsolvable. My suggestions is to flash a stock 6.5.3 ROM before you transfer the auto SD installer.

I have a 16gb Moto X Style with a decently fast 64GBs sd card and have it formatted as internal memory (mostly so I can put all my spotify music on it without having to deal with workarounds on the ****ty app). Everything works great and I'm quite happy and all that but I've been having issues with transferring stuff back and forth between my computer and my phone from day one and want to know if it's common or if I'm doing something wrong.
My issues are this:
If I connect the phone to my computer via USB Windows recognizes it but I can't browse it's content. It's empty.
If I use an app like ES File Explorer to transfer files through wifi I can save stuff and browse it on the phone but if I transfer a rom and then boot to TWRP it's not accessible.
TWRP can't make nandroid backups at all.
Are all those side effects of the sd card being encrypted? Am I doing something wrong?.

I'm having the exact same problem. I too formatted my 64gig sdcard and can not make back ups. I get error code 5 in twrp, unable to create back up folder. I also can't browse some folders, I use fx file explorer and when I open some folders they say access denied. I have given the app permissions as well. If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated!

Ok, I have had many phones and this problem is a little bit weird for me.
I'm using Poweramp as my daily driver for music. I tried deleting some songs I stored on my SD and it said my files were write protected. I then used Root Browser just to see, that most of my music and photos I have on my SD card were not located in /sdcard but in /storage/57EF-B920, a directory I never created. When I put the SD card into my PC, I can see all my files normally and r/w without any issues.
I figured I could only alter files using the stock file browser and gallery app, but why? And why are my SD card stored media files showing up in /storage/57EF-B920 instead of their actual path? Is that a security feature?
My phone is 100% stock and not rooted.

This is how it has always been on MM. The days of /sdcard, or /storage/extSDcard for your external SD card folder are long gone with LP/KK/JB I'm afraid.
The directory for external sd is unique to your SD card. Put in another SD card, and a new directory name will get generated for it, and it alone.
The ability for an app to write to SD card is down to the app's developer. It will need to have the updated methods that MM uses. Usually, if an app can write correctly, it will prompt you to browse to the root of your external sd card the first time it attempts to access it. Even then, some apps may need extra tweaking. Titanium Backup for example requires the storage type for the external SD card to be changed to Document Storage/Provider in its settings. I used to use Nandroid Manager on my rooted S4 on CM MM, and this could never update external SD card....I had to use Root Explorer to delete/rename my TWRP backups.
You can also double check specific apps for permission through Application Manager.
Go into the specific app in application manager, click on Permissions, and make sure Storage is turned on.
Even when turned on, some apps might still fail, as I've explained.

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for the explanation! So it's because how MM works vs how Lollipop did and Poweramp not being uptodate with that? I'll try out the permission thing and even if I fail, it's good to know why it won't work. Thank for your help!
