Joined this site a while ago, and needless to say, I've been literally blown away by it. The members of this site are just incredibly talented; I've been able to make my 8525 look and function just fantastic, and just about any fix/patch I've been able to locate through this site.
Currently using Custel WM6 rom and it's so stable and faster than the WM5 I had (though it was so hard to choose with so MANY excellent cooked roms to choose from)...
So, since it seems there's no limit to what can be done with these great devices, I was wondering if it is at all possible to use an 8525 to connect an Xbox 360 to Xbox Live?? I am able to connect using Internet Connection Sharing via USB to my laptop running Vista Ult. and get great surfing speed, so is there any way to somehow configure it to get the 360 to connect to Live through it? Could the 8525 be connected directly to the 360 (prob not likely) or can it be set up using the laptop to share the connection??
Any help/answers on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
I may be wrong, but I don't think that this is possible.
As far as I know, the xbox has no bluetooth pan support, and I don't think it is possible to have an USB modem directly setuped.
The remaining possibilities are: through the RJ45 or through the wifi. Sadly the hermes has no RJ45 connector, and it is unable to become an acces-point nor an add-hock host.
I just wanted to say that the idea of using a Hermes to connect an xbox 360 to xbox live would be just about the coolest thing ever done with a cell phone.
Is it possible to connect a 360 to XBL via a PC/laptop?

Precisely what I was thinking. Was sitting here surfing using the phone as a modem, getting great speed, then thought, 'hey it would be cool as f%#$# to connect to Live with this...' I mean, I know the 8525 could probably handle it... The question is, what CANT this phone do?!

Just tried it. Plugged it in and enabled Internet Connection Sharing, and the phone starts charging, but says "Check USB Connection" I'm not much of a hacker, so I can't attempt any driver\software hacks to get it working. You'd probably have to write a driver for the XBox to recognize the phone, and possibly vice versa. Definitly possible. Probably never going to happen though.
I'm doing it now. I connected the 8525 by USB to my computer. Then I open up the Internet Sharing program that uses the phone as a USB modem (I'm using Black Majic ROM btw). Then I select connect on the program on my 8525. Once it connects, I go to my Network Connections on my PC. I have the RJ-45 connected from the XBOX 360 to the ethernet port on my PC. I click once on the connection that says Local Area Connection # (mine is 13, everyones would be different) Windows Mobile Based Internet Sharing Device, then I hold Ctrl on my PC keyboard and click on the other connection (the one for my ethernet port). Once both are highlighted, you can right click on either one and select Bridge (I believe thats the one, anything that says Bridge on it) and let Windows bridge the connections and you should be set. Sorry if my explaining isn't very good.
Via a PC it should indeed be not an issue (as explained above).
To do it directly, it should work with an ethernet-bluetooth bridge. I'm
using 2 ethernet-wifi bridges to connect a TV and a PC to a wifi router,
but I'm pretty sure ethernet-bluetooth bridges also exist.

I've done exactly the same as your setup, and when I go into Network Connections, it has the 8525 listed as Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device (Internet Connect #5) & the ethernet connection as Local Area Connection (Unidentified Network)... In the Network and Sharing Center, do I make the ethernet connection Private, or leave it Public? Or does it matter at all... because it still for some reason won't connect to Live, it still fails the IP test... there must be a setting or configuration I'm missing here, I just know it
You could also possibly use an ethernet to wifi device (wireless access point) to go from ethernet to wifi on the 360, then use a wireless network to the TyTN (ad-hoc mode rather than ap mode) and use that to run the connection..
but..
a) its an expensive way to do it
b) it needs extra hardware
c) it may not work (can the tytn do ICS over wifi rather than usb? DUN mode may work on the newer roms that will have it - but does DUN work over wifi)
d) the access point would need to initiate the connection to the phone while also doing dhcp for the xbox.. it should work.. and id try it for you.. except that it seems like a horribly complex way to do it.
Hmm... maybe I'll give it a shot.

I think the ideal goal here would be straight from 360 to Hermes. USB or wifi, with a small adaptor if needed. It would be beautiful if someone could write drivers so you could just plug 'er in with USB and use the built in Internet Sharing on the Hermes.
Obviously those are high hopes, and in a perfect world everything would automatically work like that. *drools over universal compatibility*

For USB The problem is the driver would have to be on the 360.. it's 100% impossible.
Even if you can run unsigned code on your 360, you'd also have to be some kind of coding,hardware modding, hacking junkie to even try to write a 360 driver; on top of which to do it for a crazy reason like interfacing to one mobile phone... that would be die hard madness!
Microsoft on the other hand could probably whip it up in 5 minutes as the xbox already supports everything that's needed except an RNDIS driver to enumerate the phone as a network card. Problem being the target audience is small; possibly even just you guys
Wifi is more likely to happen as you dont really need to modify the 360, if someone wrote a driver to make the phone look like a wireless AP (if thats possible with its wifi chipset) and assuming ICS on WM6 supports wifi connection to the PC/360 (im not sure it does) then it should work fine. (Has anyone checked if the 360 wifi adapter can support a connection to non-ap ad-hoc wifi? if it can then this might work already if you very lucky - i dont have the wifi link for my 360 or id try it)

Does anybody know if there is already software to make the Hermes a WiFi-Router or make ICS make select WiFi?
I'm going to try this tonight with my regular xbox
There are already instructions on this forum for using your device as a wifi access point. It seems pretty straight-forward. So you should be able to connect any wifi client, including a wifi capable Xbox 360.

Hey, I actually did something similar since I didn't want to buy a $100 wireless adapter. I have a PC (but can be done with a laptop) with a wi-fi connection near my 360 all I had to do was use a patch cable to connect the PC to the 360. I am running vista, but Patch cables are hardware that tells the network card they are attached to a like device. It automatically shared my connection and we were able to go on-line. There were other ways I found that suggest changing router settings and such, but this was the easiest way. All you need now to use your phone to get your 360 on-lin is a computer
My EVO is rooted with custom Evio 1.5 ROM.
Now my question is, I thought that you could have it so that th EVO acts a wireless hotspot for other devices.
Now, I know that you can have it act as a hotspot and transmit the 3G/4G signal as a rotuer.
BUT, I thought it was possible to make it so the EVO could share the wireless signal that it is connected to, to other devices.
Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I live in an apartment complex with free wifi, but it requires you to open up a browser and it redirects you to a page where you enter some info and it gives you a free "account" to access the internet. Well, my friend wants to go on Xbox Live and well, the 360 does not have a browser to enter the information, thus the wifi blocks his 360.
My EVO picks up the wifi just fine (because it has a browser) so I thought it would be a good idea, to receive the wireless signal and transmit it to his Xbox 360 as a different router but still using Wireless speeds.
I swear that when I was messing around with my EVO that I could share my wireless internet with other devices, but I thought it was a useless tool, because if the device can already connect to WiFi, then why does it need to connect to my EVO. But now, I see a good use for it, but for some reason I cannot figure out how to do it.
3G is a lot slower than our WiFi, and we don't have 4G in Rochester, MN.
Does anyone know if there is a way for the 360 to bypass it, or know how to transmit a wireless signal from the phone and turn it into a router.

I don't think that it is possible. There is only one wifi radio. Either it is using wifi to be a client, or as the hotspot or tether application a host.
Think that you would need two wifi devices, like a notebook or desktop running wifi and using the ethernet port running Internet sharing plugged into the back of the Xbox using ethernet or possible using ethernet from your PC into a router.
I work for a company that installs systems similar to the one probably being used in your apartment complex. Devices on our system (Nomadix) are authenticated by MAC address. Have you tried to spoof the Xbox's mac address on a computer, sign in to the web and then attempt to connect with the 360?
AFAIK you cannot both connect to an access point and broadcast a signal for another device to connect to. I know that you CAN connect to an access point and USB tether. You can also connect a laptop to the free wifi and share the connection to the xbox with a cat5 cable.
download "wireless tether pre 11" and use it to play xbox live, i used myn the other night for about 5 hours and only burnt through 20 some megs, um if you dont have wifi on your xbox, use a laptop and pic up the signal with it and plug in an ethernet cable to your xbox from your laptop. that will also work, it is a bit slower than your net in your apartment, as i was only getting two to three bars the whole night.

Spoof your computer mac address to that of you 360. Activate, then connect 360
Or use a laptop to connect to wifi, then a bridge ethernet cable form laptop to xbox.
or you could (insert something that was already said four posts up).

So, I'm getting a tablet and Seagates wireless hard drive to use with it. The only thing is I won't be able to tether to my phone if using the hard drive, so I was thinking of getting a mini wireless portable router.
My question is, how can I get my phone to tether to a wireless router (say a DLINK g730ap) so my tablet can access the Internet and the hard drive within the DLINK? Unless I use the Android Tether as a router, where the hard drive connects to the phone and the tablet connects to the same phone. But I don't know what the transfer speeds are going to be, I imagine it would probably be slow, but I'm not sure.

I think I understand what you want to do, and it's something I did not too long ago. I actually wanted to see if I could use Sprint Hotspot on my EVO, tethering at 4G, as a replacement for my xfinity internet. The problem is, the router I use requires an Ethernet connection as it's internet input, so I wasn't even sure it was possible. But, apparently, it is. I had to change the firmware on my router, though. If you're trying to do something similar, that's likely what you'll have to do. I got my modded firmware from dd-wrt. But there are a LOT of warnings, and just like upgrading the firmware on your phone can lead to a brick if done incorrectly, the same goes for the router.
I actually couldn't get it to work using Wireless Tether for root users; it only worked with the native Sprint Hotspot, so unless you're paying for the service, it might not be possible. And your bandwidth will be very limited, so don't expect very fast transfer speeds.
Router
You have 2 separate hurdles to cross-
1. DD-WRT compatible Router to handle all 3 devices communication
2. "Wireless Tether" does not create an actual router, it creates an Ad-Hoc based connection using basic ICS, and typical network/routing functions are not available. If you don't want to use Sprints Hotspot app, you will need to get specific instructions on DD-WRT's forum on how to properly configure this type of setup and use your router as a gateway. I'm sure the information is probably posted already somewhere over there. Head over there and start digging. They are to routing as XDA is to mobile phones.
im running this setup now with my phone and xbox and whatever else. like has been mentioned you need to put ddrt on your router and configure it as an ap bridge. then you have to link it to the ....wtf..hold on ill link you.

Yeah that's the way to go, I use ddwrt in client mode so it pulls my wireless tether from my phone and sends the signal out through the cat5 or 6 cable to whatever is wired to the router. But repeater/bridge mode would be needed to send wired signal and also repeat the signal through the antenna for broadcasting wifi from the router.

I can't figure out how to use this. I turn on WiFi tether, Wifi itself turns off on the phone. Now, I have a WNR3500L with the toastman tomato mod, and I can't figure out how to get it to work with this.
I connected an old router of mine to another one via power line adapters to try and boost reception, I set it all up perfectly, my nexus 4 and nexus 7 now enjoy much better internet in my bedroom, however my Windows 8.1 laptop connects to the router but says "no internet access". Any help on how to fix this?

Did you restart the affected laptop? That's usually the problem. Restart the upstream router first and let it come up, then restart each downstream device in order.
If not that, hardwire laptop to last hop in router-chain with Ethernet cable and check connectivity. 2nd: disable wifi encryption and check connectivity. 3rd: Test USB wifi adapter with laptop.
Okay cheers, only problem is the last router only has a single Ethernet which is used by the power line adapter. I've restarted it all, reset both routers, and it seems all windows laptops in my house are affected. Linux is working fine

II would like to USB tether my PH-1 to my router using an ethernet to USB adapter. To use USB tether you apparently need a powered USB connection. Is there a way around this so I can tether to an ethernet adapter?
I'm not sure what you mean by tether, but if you're just trying to get an Ethernet connection for your PH-1, I got a simple, unpowered USB-C to Ethernet adapter off scamazon for about $10. It works great. Much faster D/Ls than any wifi.

AyUaxa, can you tell be the exact procedure you use to connect your USB-C ethernet adapter? It sounds like you use a different method than Hotspot & Tethering -> USB Tethering.

2. plug dongle's male USB C into PH1s female USB C. maybe carry them around in the same pocket for a while, go for coffee or dinner or something, so they get to know each other first. if either isn't cisgendered, make appropriate apologies.
3. plug a good ethernet cable into an open port on your router and the other end into the female ethernet port on the dongle. at this point, don't worry about the niceties--routers are easy and the dongle's already committed.
4. Use pulldown on PH1 to turn off wifi and 4G to confirm internet connection through ethernet. There should be a <--> icon in the status bar.
5. Surf internet at high, wired speed until battery dies. I don't think it's necessary to turn off wifi and 4G to get the ethernet connection to work, but since battery life is an issue, unless you've got a USB C splitter that allows you to charge while connected to the dongle, I turn those off to conserve battery.

I am pretty sure the OP wants to do the opposite of what you are suggesting... Tethering usually means using the data connection of the phone to provide the internet access to the other device(s). Typically, this is done by setting up the phone as a WiFi hotspot, but the idea here is to use the wired Ethernet connection to the router instead, so all devices connecting to the router would use the internet connection shared by the phone.

A USB-c to ethernet cable... Then plugged into the incoming port on the router...
Use my mobile data plan for home
Since I have true unlimited data plan with carrier I plan to use Essential exclusively as a hotspot phone to provide internet through a router AP for the house. Looking for an adapter to hardwire to router -act as access point- and that the phone is charged while in use. I've tested through wifi and it works through an Asus router, but I want to see if I get better speed if hardwire to router.

You might also consider getting a USB splitter that allows your ph-1 to charge while USB Ethernet tethering.
I did this for a period of time with a different phone and having it plugged in continuously for a few months, it wrecked the battery and not sure if it was related, but the screen got all funky.
My alternate plan to remedy that was to use my phone's wifi hotspot, installed Open-WRT on a spare rPi I had laying around (maybe you can install it on your router if you check out their compatibility list?) and then I set up a Tasker event to automatically turn on a WiFi-enabled plug when my phone got down to 20% battery.
I suppose you could do the wired Ethernet adapter with a USB splitter and a WiFi-enabled smartplug if you're die-hard about having it wired.
I might also recommend putting your router in bridge mode (or at least disable the DHCP server) so your phone is giving out IP addresses, so you don't have a bunch of extra translation. LTE and WiFi have enough latency, adding another layer of NAT probably won't help if you're doing anything time-sensitive like gaming.

I was grandfathered in to an old Verizon contract with true unlimited data but unfortunately the contract owner was swindled by a sales rep to "upgrade to a new plan that would save [you] $15 a month" ? so I'm in the market for a new contract (or even prepaid if such a data option exists. I'm currently testing Google Fi, but the PH-1, being a compatible phone, not "Designed for Fi" I'm stuck on TMO which has almost no service in my area so unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to stick with Fi))
I have "Sprint Unlimited Family" supposedly true unlimited until 50gigs then may be throttled down based on congestion of network.
Tried Asus RT-AC68U router as AP through USB 3.0 cable and it worked perfectly. Need to look into tasker to see if it works so phone is not always charging

Since some time there is an ethernet therthering option on my note 10+ 5G.
I use it to as an uplink on my router.
I initialy used an old usb A ethernet dongle with an adapter.
I recenly got some poe to usb c pd adapter from aliexpress, about 80$ a pice.
This way my phone gets power and can sharw its ethernet connection over just one cable.
Because my router is just a vm, and all ports to it are just v-lans i can easy configure 1 ore more of the ports of my poe switch to be wan.
Side note: i use openmptcprouter for wan bonding, i get near 100mb/s dl and ul in the country side, just using 3 lte modems and my phone in ethernet therthering mode.
