External Sd Card Write Permission ? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

HI all,
I have Galaxy S7 Edge G935F, Installed TWRP and Rooted with SuperSU, I need the fix for Externel SD card writable permission fix works with Marshmallow ? Because of I use Titanium Backup which folder located in my sd card, But Error is "Folder not writable"
Thanks :good:

You don't need it. In TitaniumBackup, when you're in the "Backup folder location" menu, click on "Storage provider" (just above "Detect") and select "DocumentProdivder Storage".
Then, you need to select the root folder of your SD Card.
You can now use any folder on your SD as backup...

Thanks Mate

Worked for me.

I, i'm the same problem but with root explorer, there are any fix to add write permission on root explorer app?

I have the same issue with ES file explorer, except I have the US S7 variant, so I dont even have root....
I tried NTFS, exFAT, and FAT32 and all don't show up when I try to grant ES write permissions. Anyone have a solution?

Thanks

SD Card move
When I move any app/game to my external SD card, it works, bu when I restart my phone those apps/games are blank, it needs to be reinstalled, meaning it can not read from SD card anymore, when I had same problem with lollipop KitKat sd card fix apk corrected it like before but as I am not rooted, is there any application which can fix this problem for Samsung Galaxy S7 edge? Thank you.

TB crashes when I try this.

Doesn't work for me... trying to find a way to change the permission...

Doesn't work for me either. Been trying for days, rebuilt so many times. Thinking I'll use a custom rom instead.

You have been granted "awesome" status. This grants you the permission to pat yourself on that back and say "well done!" whenever you need it.
... and thank you for solving this annoying issue.

haha glad I helped

Not everyone on this thread has been able to grant permissions
I used to successfully grant permissions by selecting the SD Card on my S5 running marshmallow, but on my Galaxy S7 Edge the SD card simply doesn't show up during the permissions procedure (and yes, I did select "show SD card").
I'm really keen to avoid rooting this phone, as I want to use the payment options, and to keep my warranty.
The "My Files" app that comes with the phone has access to the SD, but that app can't copy from the network. So using ES Explorer I can copy small network files locally first, then move them to the external SD card later. Due to this permissions bug, I do not have any option for copying larger network files! So annoying..
I've also tried other advanced file explorer apps.. and see exactly the same problem, which perhaps tells us it's an OS issue..?

Thanks for the help - I did just as you said, but unfortunately the result is the same. When I click to "Show SD Card", I cannot see anything, "Recent" is also empty. Thing is - this did used to work, with the same phone. I'm starting to think that the only fix is to factory reset the phone..

Hi - yep that's my problem, nothing shows after hitting "show SD card" - that's what I've been trying to describe. It's the same process for all the third party apps - but nothing shows on my S7 Edge

Try using the option at the bottom, not the Document Storage Provider.
I have always used Filesystem Storage - Media, then created a new folder called My Titanium Backups, then select this folder.

Use Astro File Manager, or better yet Root Explorer if you're rooted. My Files is extremely basic.
Downloaded astro. Found the files but feel stupid because it ended up being in dcim on the sd card. Thank you very much for your help.
There's just one more issue,i tried copying a file from the sd card into the font folder of the phone but it wouldn't let me.any idea why?

You need root access to do that, and Root Explorer, because RE uses Superuser and Astro does not.

Adding own ringtone to a NAND

Hi,
Could someone please tell me where I put my mp3 file so that 'sound settings' detects it as a ringtone. I used to put it in the media folder for SD roms but obviously that's all changed.
Thanks.
Hi,
I found the folder in NAND but putting the file in there didn't work. I'm not sure but all the ringtones were using .ogg format so it didn't see the mp3 file. Even tried converting to ogg but didn't work either!
I managed to get the ringtone applied by using "music" app, finding the mp3 on my sd card, hit the menu button and select "set as ringtone".
This was the only way I found
If you find a better method, let me know as the stock gingerbread ringtones are cr*ap.
I just have the media folder on my SD card, and it still picks up all my custom ringtones and notifications in every nand build I've tried.

I used this method but during connection to pc as mass storage mode, the ringtone and and notifications will revert back to default internal ringtone as the sdcard is not seen by the system.
It's a strange one. I'm sure someone out there knows the answer.
With winmo you just navigated to the sounds folder on the device.
Anyone?
Just dropped an MP3 in ringtone folder and it's working fine...
You'll need a file manager with root access. I use "Super Manager" and the following instructions are specific to that application but will be similar in any other file manager.
Note: Before you begin make sure you have enabled the root function in the system settings.
1. Select the file you want to move...longpress on the file and select copy from the menu that pops up.
2. Navigate to /system/media/audio/ringtones
3. Press the windows hardbutton and select "Switch System R/W" to enable writing to the system directories.
4. Longpress the screen, when the menu pops up select paste.
5. Exit and reboot (ringtone won't appear until you reboot)

Perfect. Thank you.
Incidentally, if you don't want to go through that hassle, you can also put the ringtones in.

Serious? When you say connected to PC, you mean connect phone to pc with android running? Well, depending on which build. Desire/DesireHD, you will need to unmount the sd card in settings->storage in order to use the phone as a usb mass storage device. If you are using Gingerbread build, you will have to use Multi-mount.
Unless you are my hero, and you went full ext2/ext3/ext4 partition for the whole sd card without fat32.
Then it would be almost useless in a card reader with a windows 7 pc.

i did this but remain the same problem
when the phone rings .it ring with the old ringtone from system-->media-->>audio-->>ringtons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
a dual mount sd app would help if you don't want the usb to kick your sd card every time that you use mass storage

Can't copy or move files on SD card (unrooted)

I can't copy or move (but I can delete or rename) files and folders on / from the SD card (SanDisk 8GB) of my unrooted Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G531F) with Android 5.1.1. I still can create, rename or delete files and folders.
I tried with My files and ES File Explorer, then I formatted the card in phone and with SD Formatter.
With my PC I can copy or move files or folders on / from the SD card.
I changed the SD card with one similar from my Asus TF-101 tablet and the same phone problems occur, but the phone SD card works normally in tablet!
Many thanks in advance!

Please don't reset your whole phone, it won't solve the problem anyways.
With the advent of 5.1.1 Google added a new Media Security Protocol. The affect is that any app that doesn't have root securities can not move or copy files between Int and Ext storage, except those they generate.
The good news is that I know of a FREE file manager that can get around the problem by hooking into Androids Storage Access Framework.
One small problem is that the setting turns itself off frequently, so you have to go back in and turn it back on.
The better news is that it's footprint is only a little bit bigger than 'My Files' and it has a massive amount of capabilities and settings which are 100% configurable.
Enough of the suspense, "Ghost Commander"
Good luck, it's not for the weak of mind.
P.S. To get to the switch;
Top right three dot menu
Location
Home
Storage Access Framework
and search out the Mother directory of your Ext card, then select.
Grumpa
I know this is late but i just had this problem on my note 5.
Try installing / SandiskMemoryZone.Apk should let you move pics and files then.

Help with sd card as portable media

Ok so ive finally upgraded my s4 to a s5 unlocked bootloader, rooted and resurrection rom. I understand the whole adaptable media and encryption. I want my sd card as portable so i can use it in my pc and other phones if needed. Also to use titanium backup to restore apps if i wipe and install a fresh rom.
My problem is es file explorer, root explorer, and any archiving apps are all jacked up and wont write as they used to. I am able to write to the sd card but i want to have full control like i used to on older roms on my s4.
Any help?

I'm using Ressurection too. Marshmallow can be a pain with the sdcard. Apps have to ask for write permission when it first needs it and you have make sure to grant it.
Titanium Backup works with the external sdcard but you have to go to "Preferences", then to "Backup Folder Location", click where it says "Storage provider:", select " Document provider storage", go to the external sdcard (not a directory in it) and press "select", and then go to the TB backup directory and select "Use the current folder".
If you're using a multi partitioned sdcard, Link2SD doesn't work but Apps2SD appears to work fine. Either way, you'll probably get a notification about a corrupted sdcard for each extra partition. You can safely ignore them. Long press on the notification and select the crossed bell icon to prevent it from popping up again.
Some apps have trouble if they are opened from another app. Rar wouldn't work for me in ES File Explorer until I opened it from the app drawer. Then the correct permission dialog popped up and it was fine ever since.
I would also strongly suggest setting selinux mode to permissive. I suggest using SELinuxModeChanger.
Thanks. I changed the selinux mode but es is still wonky when working with zips. I also tried zarchiver opened directly and it has problems too. Oh well.
I did get tibu working previously as you stated.
I hate when enhancements are downgrades!!
Thank you for the information.

Rooted S7E: No SD Card Write

I recently bought an S7E. I was a little disappointed that there was no full root for the thing, but understand the situation with the locked bootloader. So I went the engineering root route. All is well and good there other than I hate that I cannot seemingly install any kind of recovery and make a full backup of the phone. Nonetheless, I the reason I am posting is that I have an issue with writing to the SD card. I have formatted the card with no change. I tried using root explorer to change the ownership of the card with no change (says it can't because of no write permissions). I even tried the KitKat fix I think it was in that you modified the platform.xml file to get write permissions. I had to use ADB to do that though but it too still made no difference.
So I am kind of out of ideas here. I first noticed it trying to run Syncthing which I use to sync files across devices for work and, of course, I use the SD Card for that purpose. However, other apps are unable to write as well like ES File Explorer, Root Explorer and so on.
Does anyone have any solution to this? I am on T-Mobile if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Just to see if any fresh eyes on this may have some clues or answers. Thanks.

Install Fx explore from playstore. Click 3dot menu select enable write access.select 3dot menu and again select show all storage then from side menu select memory card then select right symbol on the bottom, you are done.
Thank you for that Anik49. That will get me functional for the moment, but is there not a way to make it permanent? Syncthing is unable to write to the SD card and I have yet to find anything that would adjust the permissions for that specific app or that would more generally give write access to the SD card outside of the file explorer.

Without root you have to give app permission to write on sd card but not all app have the option but with root you can do this you need xposed framework install on your phone. Then install xinternal sd apk and give the app proper permission. It will enable all write access to the memory card.
