My custom ringtones won't play for calls. Only default plays and it is from the same library. Is there a toggle that needs to be set? They all worked on my S5.
Mine are working fine. Just placed it in the internal drive/ringtone folder.
Thank you very much. Mine were on the external sd card. I created a ringtone folder on the internal storage and copied them. Now, they are working. So happy!

Hi All,
Is there any registry hack where i can set the ringtones which are on my SD card for specific contact using the contacts.
Regards,
Fesar.
I read it somewhere here that we can just save the ringtones under the root folder in storage card... when i did that, i can assign the ringtone to contacts... works for me. Try it
Just place all your ringtones in the storage card NOT in any folder. Then go to your contacts choose one, Edit it and Select the Ringtone Tab. You'll see there all your available ringtones
Choose... and you're set
yesterday i had a severe problem with the standard media applications (video/musicplayer and gallery).
none of them would show me any of my media files when started.
the video player said "no sd card inserted", the musicplayer crashed with "music database to large" right after i started it and the gallery showed no pictures at all.
i was able to start a video by directly clicking on it within the filemanager.
i removed the external sd card, but this behaviour did not change after that.
than i copied all content from the internal sd card to the external sd card, formatted the internal sd card within the phone and than moved all the files back from the external to the internal sd card.
i did NOT overwrite any files that were created after formatting the card.
this finally helped and the media applications now work again as before.
my guess is, that the media database somehow got corrupted and therefore i would like to know the file names where the database is stored.
than, if this happens again, i can just delete the relevant files.
Its a hidden file in /mnt/sdcard/.gallerycache/ delete that and media scanner should rebuild the cache.

Hi,
I have G2 with stock f/w (2.2) with build # 1.22.531.8.
Here is the issue,
I copied mp3 files from PC to the SD card (used USB cable).
when I start the music app or ringdroid, I can't see any files on my SD card. how ever I can select the files using "ES File Explorer" and play it on music app.
But no files show up on the music app.
Here is what I have done so far,
--> deleted all the ".nomedia" files from the card
--> backed up data and formated the SD card thru the phone
--> copied all the files back
Here are few other things that I tried,
--> removed SD card and inserted it back
--> unmounted SD storage and mounted it within the phone settings
The music files are copied to the /music folder.
Please let me know if I am missing something here.
Thanks for your time.
have you tried a different music player ?
and try putting them in /mp3 (works for me)
maybe format the sdcard on your pc
Any media files I put on the internal storage are not being picked up by either the video player or music player. I can still access/play these files through the file manager. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Thanks
Try Rescan Media by Aditya Talpade on the Market, solved the same problem for me.
There are two versions of the app one for rooted phones and one not.
Thanks, but that did not work.
The media scanner works and does pickup media on a microsd, but not on the internal storage.
I put a video file in the /sdcard folder of the internal storage and not the subfolders. Now the video application picks it up. Any idea what may be wrong with the subfolders? I did do a format of the internal storage.
Do you have a rogue .nomedia file lying in any of your subfolders?

Not in the usbStorage folder. There are .nomedia files in other subfolders.
You cant put anything in the /sdcard folder that's the folder that becomes the external micro sd card when you disconnect/unmount the drives.
Just make a new folder in the root of the internal storage and call it whatever you like. Then put your videos in there.
So just make folders in the /sdcard/usbstorage for media?
Just to confirm, what is the proper procedure for loading media onto the internal storage? Connect with usb utilities, copy media, disconnect?
Connect your phone in mass storage mode to PC.
Open Phone via windows explorer .
Make new folder video
Copy a few videos in to this folder .
Via file explorer on phone locate and open a video in this folder .
Should now see them as normal .

Hey all, I just picked up a new S5 a few hours ago actually. Got everything all set up and migrated over to the new phone. Phone is bone stock. Anyways, I put in the sd card from my old phone, but the S5 won't scan it. None of my pictures from the card show up in "Gallery", none of my ringtones show up in Sound settings, none of my music shows up in the music player. I've tried an SD rescanning app from the play store but it didn't work. I can view the contents of the card just fine when using a file browser, but android does not appear to be scanning any of the files of it. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I've read that the sd card permissions were changed with kitkat, but would that remove media scanning from the SD card?

I'd recommend you to do the following steps:
1. back up your sd card to your pc, laptop or whatever
2. then go to "storage setting", format that sd card
3. then copy your data back to sd card
4. restart your phone
it should work fine!
Wow, that worked great. Thanks!
