Places Edge Panel and high Google Services Battery Drain - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

For the last few days I have noticed that Google Play Services is my highest battery drainer (previously it was Android System). When you tap on Google Play Services in the battery monitor it suggests changing location settings. I have had the Places Edge panel set up to silence my phone and turn off wifi when I'm at work and enable sound and turn on wifi at home. I'm thinking that this might be aggressively polling GPS for my location. On my old phone I had Tasker set up to do this using Cell Near. I have set this up one the S7 Edge and want to disable Places. I have turned the panel off in the Edge panels settings, but I was wondering if this is enough to make it stop checking location or if there is something else I need to turn off or disable?

[App] BrightTooth - For manual to auto brightness mode while driving

hey guys
like a lot of us i'm setting my nexus 5 brightness mode to manual and with low value in order to save some battery life.
the problem is that when i get a call while driving in daylight i can not see anything on the screen and i have to start messing with my phone while driving......
this is why i developed this app.
it uses the car's Bluetooth to tell when i'm in the car and then sets the screen brightness mode to Auto. when disconnecting from the car's Bluetooth it set it back to what it was before.
i have been using it for a few months and i can tell that it is very useful for me.
it is a very simple App....and it does NOT effect battery life when installed.
i hope you will enjoy it as i am

Always On Display need Phone status.

It seems an obvious omission that the AOD does not reveal basic handset status.
Flight Mode and Mute/Vinbrate status (and probably some other things) would be great stuff to know without having to activate the screen.
Is there a setting to display this info beside the Date Time and Battery?
I am probably missing something simple here as I find my way around my new S7 edge.
Yeah turn on your screen.

Will do for now.
Hopefully Samsung might add phone status when/if they update AOD.
Time and date on AOD is of little use to anyone who wears a watch.
I have to put my phone in and out of flight mode several times each day. I also set it to silent call in meetings quite ofter. A couple of icons displaying this status of this would be far more useful to me. This way I do not have to continuous toggle the screen on to see if calls will come in, or be audible when they do.

Always On Display Setting

I had turned on the always on display shortly after setting up my new G6, and then a few days later I turned it off. However the setting keeps turning itself back on, usually overnight. I had turned it off yesterday, but woke up this morning to the display being on, and the setting set to on.
Starting to think I have a gremlin messing with me.
Go into your AOD settings and verify you didn't accidentally set up something the revolves around the time for your AOD to come on. See attached screenshot
Good call. I checked the "Daily timeout" and it was setup.
Turned it off and we will see if that stops it from turning back on in the morning.
I love the AOD. I was using the digital clock, but then changed to the analog clock. I like watching the red second hand. I also use the screen saver when wireless charging, although I feel more thought could have been put into it. The screensaver seems half baked to me, but it works.

How goes battery drain with this turned on?
I don't notice anything adverse.

I don't wanna start a new thread. But can you in any way customize the AOD? I don't need the battery icon shown there as it distracts a little from notifications. Any way to turn notifications and icons on/off?
And did you guys notice any serious battery drain when turning AOD bright instead of normal mode?
Whats the brightness selection, is it the overall brightness of the AOD? I think from default it's reasonable

A few issues after switching to the S8

Hi
So I recently switched from a Google Nexus 5 to the Galaxy S8 and although there are a lot of things I like about the S8, there is also a few things that I do not like. Mostly this is software related.
Firstly, the quick toggles on the notification area, to quickly toggle WiFi, Bluetooth etc are a little strange. On my Nexus 5 with the stock rom (Android 6.0.x) and the LineageOS (Android 7.1.x) I could both turn on and off the wifi, bluetooth and other things without having to unlock the phone. Now with the S8, I have to unlock the phone to turn on the WiFi, but not to turn it off? This does not make any sense. Is there a way to change this? I noticed the same behaviour on my girlfriends S7 Edge, so it is clearly something in the stock Samsung ROM.
Another thing is related to the alarm clocks. On the stock Google Clock app, a notification would appear two hours before the alarm was due and allow me to cancel the alarm. Now with the Samsung ROM (Noticed this on the S7 Edge and the S8) these notifications do not appear and I cannot seem to find the settings for this, so that I can turn it on. Also I cannot find the settings for making the volume down key cancel the alarm instead of snoozing it.
Since the Samsung clock cannot be uninstalled or disabled, it would be stupid to install the stock Google Clock app to get these features back, but if this is the only way, then that might be what I have to do.
Can anyone tell me how to resolve the above issues or maybe provide a workaround for them?
Its a security thing, imagine if the phone is locked and you could turn off data/location, that would be pretty dumb wouldn't it?
Just download the google clock, you can disable the samsung one with a debloater tool.

S7 Edge Exynos version after Oreo

I have disabled the below applications since I am not using them hoping to save more battery.
"Drive
Excel
Hangouts
OneDrive
Photos
PowerPoint
S Voice
Samsung Cue
Samsung Gear
Samsung Health"
Does it really help? I have my device optimised for battery, Display set to full HD, auto brightness OFF, auto sync OFF, location OFF, WiFi scanning OFF, all applications are updated from PlayStore and Galaxy Apps, most applications background running is set OFF, always sleeping is ON for all apps other than WhatsApp and Messenger, network 2G and sometimes in Airplane mode, using black theme and wallpapers, vibration feedback OFF.
Suggestions please.
