Haven't totally verified it, but it looks like Samsung took away the Lock effect, watercolor, which gives the nice water sound and lets you splash around the colors on the opening lock screen. Will find out more tomorrow, anyone else experiencing this same option missing ?
another guy in the other ota update thread mentioned the same thing.
I can confirm that it did in fact remove the effect on the lockscreen... What in the world... That was a nice feature. Mind you it lagged beastly for such a powerful device. (Specs sheet wise)
PS: I can definitely see a noticeable difference in speed. It might be just for the time been. But i'll keep you guys posted.
There is something about that water effect that causes more lag than it should. I noticed on my first generation Note 10.1 that disabling it improved speed on the homescreen and even typing. It shouldn't, but it did. When I noticed this I asked two other guys and they were having issues with lag. I told them to disable the water effect. Both also agreed that it improve the speed of the device as a whole.
Doesn't make any sense. I was, however, glad to see the ripple effect gone. It is beautiful though (less the lag)
Why do they take it away...regardless...

If indeed it cause lagged, why not just give the option of the three effects on the lock screen and add, an off feature and let the user of the tablet decide if they want it off or not. They also, have bugs in the high end graphics games crapping out. They also have cause the S-voice to crash when you ask certain questions, they also have contacts created with action memo failing to keep first and last names apart. I will do a video on all this nonsense and post it on youtube. Hopefully, Samsung will see it and respond with some sort of fix for all this stuff, and maybe just maybe they will put back the ripple effect and let us chose if we want it or not. And by the way Samsung if your reading this, your tablet still is laggy at times even with this ripple effect turned off.

Yes, the feature seems to be gone along with the option in settings to enable it.

almost ready to return tablet ...cant take samsung and the way they do the updates. total disregard for the user, not fixing the real bugs instead taking away a feature that I found to be quite soothing and liked very much. just frustrating company. I will do a video tomorrow and lets see how samsung responds to my doozy of a video.

Seriously. Normally I wouldn't comment on something like this, but if that's what makes you bring the tablet back....smh

The newest update definitely made the tablet smoother. I am impressed that they put out 3 updates in one month to make the tablet better.

Ok, well Im wondering what lag you guys are referring to. My point was that all samsung had to do was give an option to turn off, the effect, for those that wanted to, and they could have stated it makes the tablet slightly if any faster. Anyway, Believe it or not, I was able to add it back in for those who like to use it and guess what the lag issues are still fixed. The app is called galaxy locker here is the link and it works like a charm.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.galaxy
I wonder if part of the reason for turning it off was for the multiuser cause they needed to make the lock screen more like AOSP?
I thought I was going insane when I turned my tablet on and the watercolor effect was gone. I am hoping they bring it back or at least replace it with something better-looking than the current Tab 3 lock screen.
Do you guys have a slight delay when you press the home button on the note until it lights up to the lockscreen? Mine is smooth are silk once I pass the lock screen but I still have that slightly delay

My has about a 1 second delay. That is a little improved with the last update. I'm all for them taking out the eye candy like that lockscreen effect and focusing on the basic speed and quality of the apps.

Yep at this point it is the only delay I notice,

Every samsung device I've ever used has this home button delay. Even though the hardware has gotten exponentially faster and the OS has become more and more optimized. At this point it's not a delay anymore, it's a feature.
Lol.. ok cool I was just checking. It's not a big deal. Once you're in I'd say it's definitely snappier since third update

if you want it back that bad, and still want the fast speed (faster speed IMO), stick with th MJ6 firmware:

I've got it back, guess you didn't read the link i posted, which is an app thats downloadable from the play store. Im not rooting this yet. I like the samsung bloat.
Hiya, I would appreciate it if some users could post some feedback on the responsiveness of stock apps on their shiny new S5s
In particular the camera, gallery, contacts and phone apps.
I have an S3 and am thinking about upgrading, however I’ve been on an AOSP ROM for the last few months because the lag in opening simple stuff like contacts was just unbearable on any Samsung ROM/kernel combo. It was embarrassing trying to show someone a picture on my phone only to have them wait 5-10 seconds for the app to decide to open.
I’d like to upgrade to an S5, but not expecting there to be any decent ROMs for a few months, so just want to make sure I won’t be regretting it
Everything overall is faster and smoother. I came from am S3 as well. The camera loads fast, but I would say the time from waking the device to taking a pic is still not quite as fast as iPhones. It takes amazing pics, so that helps. I haven't tried to see if lowering the resolution will speed up the process. The gallery still lags a second or two when I go to it from the camera. I wish Samsung would have made the gallery fast3 instead of clunkier. Overall, though, I truly enjoy using the camera and gallery, so what I've mentioned are just minor complaints.
On the phone, I thought I would miss the swipe motion to call or text, but I like the grid better.

The swipe motion to call and text still exists on the S5. Or what are you talking about?

So I was playing around in the gallery on my edge just found this out. I've looked numerous tips and tricks and never seen this. Anyways, while in the gallery, if you do the pinch to zoom and do this about 2 or 3 times and you will get a grid of 8x12. Lots and lots of pictures. They are sketched but you get the ideas of the grid
It's not a hidden trick, it's a future already know. btw one time I had a grid of 16x24 but I don't know why and how reproduce it.

Hmmm not sure about 16x24 but I believe you get 16x9 or 10 by having it in landscape.

It was hidden to me lol. None of my other notes have done this and no videos I have seen ever mentioned anything about it.
I kind of think this was always available. I think my Note 2 also had it. I know for sure you can swipe left for more grids but I'm not too sure about the pinching. Will check whenever I see my bro as he has it now.

I still have both my note 2 and note 3. I believe this is a new feature that was added cause neither of mine do it. While you can zoom to make the images bigger 2×4 grid then the next size (normal size) is 3×6. This is the same on both notes 2 & 3. Neither will go smaller than this unlike the note edge.

Just thought I would pop in and mention just how much I love this phone.
As you can see from my footer, I change phones far too frequently and there have been some pretty good ones there. But I come here today to say that I have never felt as comfortable with a phone as I have with the OPX.
With either the official case or cover always fitted and finally taking the time to get Nova just right and I can honestly say that this is it.
That's all really, but if you must know, I think that there will be times when I wish it had the camera of the OP2.

CM based rom required for that

Thanks for that, you see just how satisfied I have been, normally I would have checked every possible upgrade for this little beauty.
However, now you have whet my appetite so I will check it out, but perhaps you could advise what advantages it actually brings, because I don't find the actual camera use or function too bad, its only those occasional photos where you want to zoom into the detail that i find the OPx suffers (when compared to the OP2).
So yesterday the Good Lock app randomly auto pushed to my phone from the Galaxy app store.
Has anyone else had this happen?
It also replaced the system ui. I was able to open the app and uninstall it, but I get a notification about twice a day saying I have an app to update. Every time the notification is for Good Lock.
Is Samsung forcing it on its users now?
Also is anyone using it ? Does it still negatively effect the battery? Does it remove the theme sort from the phone as well?
Thanks!
Happened to me too. I also uninstalled it, couldn't achieve a look that I like. You can disable the notification from the Galaxy Apps settings menu

I like it, it's cool imo. The multitask screen looks better.
Hmmm...
At first, I was angry it auto updated/Installed. It.changed everything I was used to. I HATED it!
Then I played around with it a bit, and I can now see some useful features in it. Mostly the lockscreen widgets and the Routines. I'm not a fan of the notification shortcuts though.
Im going to give it a few days to sink in. If I don't miss the old layouts, then I'll keep it.
Just REALLY wish theyd update the autocorrect though. I had to retype many words in this message!

Still seems strange to just push it on users have not heard them doing that on any other devices so far. Makes me wonder if it will be the stock setup on Android 7.1 for Samsung.

I think I saw on Sammobile that the Nougat ROM being tested for the S7 has it. I'll see if I can find it.
EDIT:
http://www.sammobile.com/2016/09/22...y-s7-to-bring-grace-ux-and-improved-features/
I've used good lock mostly on my s6 and a bit while I used the s7edge as a loaner. I actually think I prefer the grace ux on the note to good lock these days but good lock has a lot of features and is always adding user requested features.

I just checked out the reviews for good lock this isnt an isolated incident. People are really mad, complain their phone now has "girly colors" and threatening to go back to iOS if they don't add the ability to change colors (which you've always been able to do)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N930A using Tapatalk
Yeah I tried good lock and it was okay but I couldn't stand the hideous colors in notifications, and it just seemed way too busy. I only used it because I missed KitKat style lock screen music album art, but I found out Samsung music still has an acceptable form of it and I'm satisfied with it.

It's not easily noticeable though. There isnt a very noticeable "colors" section.
I think that's confusing people.

Took me awhile to figure out how to change colors, buried in the routines menu. And because I use a them already, was even more fun trying to get them to match. I did try it for a few days, but went back to the regular lock screens. Also didn't seem to work real well with AoD.

been using on my 2 phones for months; i prefer the stock Android UI look as well as the ability to "keep" some of my notifications so i can follow up later. the latest version allows you to further customize the colors (not just dragging the polygons from left to right or vice-versa). takes (me a) little effort to get it like i want it, but i can then backup and restore when necessary. --- i'm a keep it simple/basic user so the less stuff, the better (for me).
also, @nuclearrage, what issues were you having with AoD? GoodLock and AoD are working fine on my devices.
