Tmobile unlocked my device today after only 4 days - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

First of all, use twitter customer service(#tmohelp), its way better. I plan to use cricket now. You do not have to have your account open 40 days if you are not on a postpaid plan. If you have a prepaid plan and the device is purchased in full you have to bug them and ask several reps on twittsr tmo help but after the 4th one or so explaining that the 40 day thing doesnt matter for prepaid, they will unlock it

GSM Shift in USA

I just picked up my new shift from Dynamism.com and so far I love it. I had a tough time getting cell data service set up with out signing a contract so I thought I would share my experiences obtaining service w/o selling your soul for two years.
I think it is ridiculous to be required to sign a two year contract for a service without some sort of subsidized equipment. But, that's exactly what AT&T and T-Mobile will claim is necessary if you call their phone sales line. T-mobile will, however, be happy to set you up with a "pay us you go" plan and then add an unlimited data package for 19.99 a month with no contract. You will have to go to the store, but that's completely worth it. I found this out on my own, but it has been discussed in other boards and I haven't seen it here yet.
Apparently there is a similar trick that works on AT&T, which others might like better because T-Mobile's new 3g network isn't compatible with the Shift and you are stuck in EDGE. I will say however that T-Mobile's EDGE network on my shift has been much faster then AT&T's 3G service on my iphone. I also like T-Mobile's customer service better, although neither are great.

AT&T option
You don't have to sign up for a contract with AT&T if you don't purchase a device when you get your SIM - I've done this several times (and in some cases killed the account after a few months with no penalty)
GSM
I have pay as you go with att for data, cost $20 per 30 days. I live in Canada and travel to US every 6 weeks, the pay as you go is a good deal, get the $100 card, good for 365 days

HTC Snap on VZW Sim Unlock

Ok... here's some information for anyone that would like to be able to use the Sim Slot on the SNAP here in the good ol' U.S.A.
If you call VZW Global Support @ 1-888-844-0395 and tell them you are leaving the country soon and would like to unlock the GSM Sim Slot on the phone to be able to use pre-paid sim cards while you travel they will give you the instructions and lock code to do it.
This accomplishes two things -
(1) If you do travel internationally you can buy and use pre-paid sims where ever you are and do not need to pay VZW rates.
(2) Allows you to use At&t and T-Mobile Sim Cards in the Snap and make and recieve phone calls on their Network while here in the U.S.
In order for them to unlock the phone you must be a VZW Customer for 90 days and have an account in good standing (it doesn't hurt to have the phone on a business account - seemed to work faster for me).
Yesterday I called VZW, had the phone unlocked and had made a test call using both a T-Mobile and At&t sim card within 5 minutes.
Good LUCK!!!!!!!
thank u sir..worked like a charm!
i just finished using an friends at&t sim..and no issues.
might also want to note all feature abilities still work as well..mms, txt and yadda
Thats great that the Ozone has dual mode CDMA and GSM. But unfortunately no HSDPA or 3G. I want to get my hands on one to do some R&D... What are they going for??

new 2 yr contract comes out to $87.61 when ordering ONLINE ( its what i paid ) and only applies online instore ur gonna pay $140 something plus all those ridiculous taxes
but that $87.61 includes Fedex standard overnight which they throw in for free..thats right i said it, FO FREE
i got mine for free with upgrade
HTC Ozone from Verizon Online $50 with 2 year contract
My wife and I switched from AT&T to Verizon because Verizon coverage is far better in our area. For example we can use our cell phones inside our house now.
I got the HTC Ozone for $49.99 with a 2 year commitment. I opted for the unlimited data only plan (Nationwide messaging for smartphone at $54.99 and $0.25/minute for voice but with a 10% discount from work). My actual charges for my phone are as follows:
Monthly access charges $49.49 ($54.99 minus 10% discount from work)
Surcharges - $3.05 which includes:
Fed Universal Service Charge $1.01
Regulatory Charge $0.14
Administrative Charge $1.84
VA Gross Receipts Surchg $0.06
Taxes - $4.27 which includes:
VA State E911 Fee $1.50
VA Communication Sales Tax $2.77
For a total monthly bill of $56.81 a month plus $0.25 a minute voice charges to non Verizon numbers.
Given what I've seen in the past for data plans that's not terrible. I'd planned on getting a pay as you go plan and giving up on the idea of data since the cheapest option I'd found was $70 a month plus surcharges and tax for just the data plan. The pay as you go data plans seem to have become extinct.
However I can say I'm reasonably satisfied with what I've got and what I'm paying right now since I've got unlimited data and texting with voice, albeit at a somewhat steep price. I don't think its a great bargain but it seems to be a tolerable expense since I can now get all my email on the go on a device that works well as a PDA, navigation system (using the built in GPS and Google Maps mobile application) and portable entertainment medium for little if any cost beyond the $56.81 plus voice charges. Sure it would be great if it cost $40 a month or less but I've not seen a plan anywhere close to that cheap that met my data desires and minimal voice needs.
Now if I unlock in 90 days and buy a SIM from T-mobile I could theoretically bypass the expensive voice charges on my plan but it isn't clear if that would entail swapping SIM cards whenever I want to make a voice call? My impression is no but I guess I'll have to try it out to see how it works.

The VZW Sim Card already installed in the phone is only for when travelling outside of the U.S. Inside the U.S. the Verizon Service is CDMA. So, you could have a Data Package from VZW and a Voice Plan from T-Mobile on this device at the same time. However you would have to change Networks each time you wanted to use the other... seems like it would be a big Pain in the Butt though!!!!!

settings - security - sim management - Sim unlock my phone
I unlocked my SIM card last night through Verizon Global Services. I'm going to try my brother's AT&T Sim card later today, hopefully.
Does anyone know if it's possible to keep the phone in global mode in order to receive calls from Verizon's CDMA network and AT&T GSM networks at the same time? Or will I have to switch the phone to GSM only mode to receive calls made to the SIM card number?
Thanks,
Rick

Got my US Dell Streak unlocked....

I have a month to month service with ATT.
About 15 mins ago I contacted ATT thru chat and told them that I was traveling to Guam on business and they didn't provide service in that area so I needed my phone unlocked.
The lady took my IMEI and gave me the unlock code within 10 mins. I entered it and now it's unlocked!!!
So happy...Wish I would have done this before buying the Rebel Sim...
In this particular instance...what does unlocking buy you? Will you be switching to T-Mobile? Are you really traveling to Guam?
(I will be looking for a future GSM for when I head to Europe as my Sprint Evo will not work overseas.)
If the Streak were able to swap carriers...then that would be sweet and I would use it in car as nav system on t-mobile and keep Evo as pocket/everyday phone at home.
Yep...Back with T-Mobile...I do travel quite a bit and buy local pre-paid plans when I can. They tend to be cheaper and when your minutes run out you know exactly how much you spent.
ATT lost my business the minute they did away with unlimited 3G. In a week of normal usuage I went thru 500 MB of my 2 GB. For $128 a month it should be unlimited. T-Mobile Unlimited everything $87 and the 3G is about 1.5 down and 1.3 up in my area.
I know the bands are different and I can only do 2g, but the $40 I am saving a month helps me deal with it...lol

Unlimited Data @ ATT for only $15

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW4h1tOAsg4
Wasn't sure if this worked, and if you actually order the phone, wouldn't you have to pay for the plan?
I believe att can detect your phone and will automatically put you on a corresponding iPhone (bull****) plan, not 100% sure though, I do know that international phones can be used on the Medianet dumbphone data plan though.
This is very interesting and I am really thinking about trying it out. The only bummer is you ahve to by a phone just to get the sim card. If anyone tries this out let us know how it goes and if I try it out first I will let you know.
OK I Activate AT&T Phones Daily and of my best friends works at a AT&T Call Center, so here's some FAQ
Is it really unlimited data for $15?
Yes it is Unlimited Data for any Basic AT&T Phone, but if your trying to use it with a smart phone and use like 8GB of Data in a month they will be suspect
Will it work with a Smartphone?
Yes and no, If your using a AT&T Model Phone AT&T Will either block data or in most cases add the data package
If you have a T-Mobile Unlocked Phone or a Unlocked International GSM Phone it will not be in AT&T's System so you won't be flagged
Do you have to do anything to make it work?
Well Yes APN, you have to use the MediaNet APN, The normal 4G and LTE APNS will not work
Also to note Many New Go Phone Sim Cards are now Married to the phones IMEI they ship with and will not work in another phone unless you get a sim unlock code, I have verified this with the $19 Samsung Flip phone ZTE Z431, ZTEAvail, and the AT&T Fusion, I tried the sim card that came with the phones in my Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Samsung Vibrant and Samsung Propel
Thank you for your investigation, saved me the time I would've spent asking questions and searching for answers.
Well what I want to know is, if you buy one of those messaging phones for $0.01 on the 2 year contract like the video says, so that you get the sim, won't you have to pay for the 2 yr contract regardless? Or do they not charge you unless you activate it?

Yes you would, You would be required to commit to a 2 year contract and would have to at Minimum have the 450 Min for $39.99 and the $20 Unlimited Texting or $0.20 Per Text Message and the $15 Basic Phone Data Package so that video isn't really correct..
If you want "Unlimited Smartphone on AT&T then the Straight Talk Sim Cards are a much better way to go, For $45 a month you have Unlimited Talk, Text, Web, Data, I setup a Friend with a Galaxy S Captivate on it and he has the Full 3G Speeds and has had months he's hit 6GB and never had a Issue, The only thing you have to watch for is if you want to do the Wireless Hotspot, It is against the TOS to do Hotspot but you can Use Wifi Tether For Root Users and it will show as Mobile Web Usage so they won't bug you.
You can get the Straight Talk Sims in Both Full Size and Micro Sim Versions for Both AT&T and T-Mobile, and if you put the AT&T Sim in a AT&T Phone you don't even have to unlock it to work, I've setup Go Phones, iPhones, HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Mytouch 4G, Samsung Captivate, AT&T Avail http://straighttalksim.com/shop.php

Ok guys so I found an about 8 month old ATT sim that's never been activated, and I just got an ATT manager to give me an unnactivated sim. Is there anyway I can use either of these on the plan?

Sprint prepaid

I'm buying a used Essential Sprint phone can I use it on prepaid byod? What is postpaid plan? Anyone know the cheapest single prepaid plan on Sprint?
I bought the same thing on eBay and currently use it on cricket's unlimited 2 plan for 80/month and it works on that.

Your phone must be unlocked then because Cricket uses the AT&T network, not Sprint. If the Sprint phone is locked it will only work with Sprint. It won't even work with carriers like Virgin Mobile that use the Sprint network .
Right, I did unlock the bootloader and flashed 8.1 but when I first turned it on the Sprint stuff was on it and was advertised as Sprint essential phone. I put a Sprint mnvo card in and it wouldn't work so I ended up unlocking it when I flashed it?? IDK it works for me so maybe it'll work for you?
You can use it on the Sprint free BYOD plan. It is postpaid and you will need to pass a credit check but it'll end up running you ~$5/mo for a year.
You'll need to buy a compatible sim if your phone didn't come with one. The $10 boost Mobile SIM starter pack has two cards that are compatible.
https://www.sprint.com/en/landings/bring-your-own-phone.html
Be prepared to spend a few hours on the phone across multiple calls and perhaps a trip to the store to complete the credit check. Sprint is the worst to deal with.
