Hello, I have currently not rooted my phone just yet but am familiar with it. I have just always had a micro sd card so storing files has never been a problem for me. With the 6p having no expandable storage this has put me off from unlocking and rooting. I'm just curious where and how you guys keep your backups.

Yes or internal if I have enough room but I always copy to flash drive.

If your backups are taking up too much space, then you are keeping too many backups. I would think for a phone, just two at the max. Would you really need to go back to your first of 10 backups?

For those kind of backups I would store them on my Google Drive (Still have my free 100gb from the HTC One M9 I purchased last year.)
I store my backups on the internal storage and then sync them to my computer. I used to sync them to Dropbox but my promo space is running out and I'm down to 11GB. Now, I use FolderSync to push them over to my desktop every so often.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this before, but I'd like to bring this up.
"Galaxy Nexus does not support USB Mass Storage. However, it supports MTP and PTP. Also, it is not a problem with ICS. ICS still supports UMS
Why did Galaxy Nexus stopped supporting UMS? - They wanted to have no partition for the Memory available. That is the full 32 GB/16 GB is available for everything - music storage, apps, pics, docs, etc.
Since there is no partition, it is impossible to support USB. There will be only one partition which will be running, and there will be no partition to mount."
Since these roms are built off of source, it's almost like having the Galaxy Nexus version of ICS (aside from on screen buttons obviously). I'm assuming we'll continue to see USB File Transferring once we get the official OTA but at least we know this technically isn't a bug.
I love it!!! I can plug my phone into my pc and use the storage from both pc and my phone at the same time without unmounting usb It's great!!

Not to hijack the thread, but what did you set your LCD size to? I did the recommended 210 but it made the keyboard too small for me.

I was on AOSP's ICS rom for a couple of hours this morning (v13) and every time I plugged it in, Win7 64bit Ultimate popped up with a different prompt, and different "drive system" (best way to describe it). Still had full access to ALL of my files, but it was easier to navigate, and no "click me 4 times to enable USB storage".
Was very nice, and makes me VERY eager to get back to ICS once it is a bit more stable (going to re-flash v13 now just to see if all of the fun problems I was having were because of a bad flash)

Maybe swype makes the difference. Although looking at it now I wonder if the keyboard size isn't a psychosomatic problem.
To stay on topic, I love that the phone doesn't mount as a USB device anymore. At work they have a gpo that disables the mass storage device driver on Windows, and now I can mount my phone files again.

To those of you with the 16GB phone in hand, could you post a screenshot of the Storage screen? Androidcentral's review of the 32GB model says that the 32GB is partitioned into 12GB of "phone storage" (for apps) and 12GB of "internal sd". I was all set with getting the 32GB version, but this has now given me pause. Can it be re-partitioned to be one single large partition for apps? If not, I would just go for the 16GB version (assuming it has similar amount of space for apps) and spend the $50-saved on a 32GB MicroSD card.
Yea it is a buzz kill on 32g it saves 12 to USB storage and 12 to internal sd card im getting the 16 gb
Any chance the Dev's will come up with something that will allow us to change this?

I would think so. The guys in the Nook Tablet forum provided a way to repartition that thing from it's miniscule 1GB of user space.
12 + 12 = 24. Where is that last 8GB? O/S reserved space or something?

I think so too, but if it is, then the 16GB crowd will only have 8GB divided between apps and data (before adding a micro SDHC card), that blows.
Totally sucks on the 32gb version which I switched to and ended up waiting longer for. I do hope there is a way to repartition them to one.
This is where I'm at now. Just a few essential apps and a few pics. Haven't put me sd card in yet
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks tkemack! Seems like without re-partitioning, both 16GB-models and 32GB-models will run out of app space at the same time. That's assuming that Android Central really does have the 32GB version...

I was expecting the 32GB version to have 28GB (12GB+16GB) in a single partition. There's really no reason not to have exactly 16GB more than the 16GB-model. I guess we'll see next week when people get the 32GB-model in hand. Hopefully someone will post a screenshot in this thread.

I'm hoping the website is wrong as I see no point to partitioning it. Isn't the GNex on Sprint 32GB? Maybe someone who has one of those can shed some light on if theirs is partitioned.
is this something we errrrrrr (the devs) can change ?
This makes me glad I got the 16gb! I was having a hard time deciding, but I figured I could just throw in a 32gb sd card if I start to run out of space. I doubt I'll actually use 16gb just for apps.

Today I noticed the sd card area of my phone was heating up. Checked fauxclock and all cores were steady at 1.2ghz. Unmounted card, and everything was fine. I thought it may have been a kernel issue as this happened once before with my old 16gb card, but a reboot solved it that time.
I'm on mint jelly v2.1, faux 005m and using SanDisk 64gb class 10 uhs1 formatted to fat32 using a program from download.com I found in another thread on xda (yes I did my research on this before posting).
Is anyone else noticing stuff like this? If not how did you format your card, what settings did you use to format it?
I've read that Samsung's tend to reject SanDisk cards, but this seems like more of a bad format or maybe corrupt file on the card. I pulled a log, and when the card is mounted the log becomes inundated with hits from facial recognition(face unlock perhaps?)
Here's the log:

Have you moved any apps to SD? That will cause the card to be powered all the time.
I am running 64gb sandisk card on stock rom with no issues.
Not a one
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
So I reformatted, loaded stuff back up, and got the same issue. I did learn it only happens when there are pictures on the SD card though. If I take the pics off, and just leave data like backups, the cores peg for a few seconds then shut down like normal. WTF is going on here. Is face unlock trying to scan all 8 gigs of pictures for faces? lost...
One or more of your picture files is probably corrupted.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Copy your data off the card, reformat it, and see if it reoccurs. If it doesn't, then try putting your data back on one folder at a time with Camera photos last and see what happens.
If there are _A_LOT_ of photos Gallery could be creating and saving thumbnails in the background.
Let me guess, you have a Sandisk 64gb card
I did a full format using the gui formatter last night. Loaded it back up, same thing. Took all the pics off, and it's all better. So I took my old 16gb card and put it in, which I haven't touched and it worked fine when I took it out, and the cores pegged again. So I said maybe it's the rom... Even though both cards worked fine with pics up until I made the op. I factory reset it, still the same! Everywhere I go with my troubleshooting I hit a brick wall.
I'm entertaining the gallery thumbnail idea, but that to me doesn't explain the overflow of facial recognition in the log.

I have a 64gb Sandsik UDA-1 in mine. Been almost a month now fine. Althought I've reformatted it myself willingly a few times. (exFat > ext4 > exFat > Fat32) depending on the ROM i was using and whether they support exFat or EXT4.
It seems they are very hit and miss. This is very frustrating. But my 16gb card is a transcend, and like I said I had the same problem with it...

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
SO.... I unfroze the gallery, stuck my old sd card back in chock full of pics and videos. It warmed up quite nicely. Cores stated steady at 1.242 for a good 20 minutes and burnt 15 percent of my battery. Then all the sudden... Nothing. Core 1 idling at 384. Maybe I made a big deal about nothing, sort of. I've never encountered such an issue... Maybe someone who knows more than I can explain why the phone feels the need to scan every file with reckless abandon when a card is inserted.
I'll transfer everything back to my SanDisk 64gb and report back if anyone gives a crap

However, I'm curious about the weight of that thing.
With that much bulk it is no longer pocketable IMO. As such, for the price of the phone + mods you can probably get another device that suits your needs better (whatever they may be). I can't for the life of me imagine a practical use for such a modded Note 2.

Interesting. How does charging works then, if the USB port is occupied? Remove it always?!
@albsat well then you have to unplug it :/ but there are also usb otg's where you can also charge I believe. On my nexus 4 16GB that was not enough for me with roms but 32GB
I use an usb otg cable and keep stuff like rom zip, titanium backups and nandroid backups always on usb.
you can even nandroid directly to usb
also when I make huge videos I akways move them to usb in order to keep most internal storage free.
cloud storage is also an option if you have fast internet.

I personally use OTG, you must separate or split the files between primary files and not. Primary is file that you really need to access fast and frequently like worksheets, you need to put that Primary in your phone and the rest is on another storage device.
Could I use more storage? Of course... but 24ish gigs is enough for my most favorite music, lots of map stuff, and way too many apps.
All ROMs, kernels, and nandroids go on my OTG USB drive. http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-32GB-Traveler-MicroDuo-DTDUO/dp/B00IRUS7KU
I have an 16GB S3 with a 32GB SD Card. I have only used about 10GB combined, So I know for certain that if I end up buying a 32GB G2 ... it will be fine for me - well I hope haha.
After reading some experience here, I am thinking to buy a tiny otg usb. Primary option would to be a key chain. I am looking for it.

I saw it and I appreciate. But I meant a keyring, that I can tie it to the keys I keep in my pocket. Your link was a simple usb without a cord option. Or did I missed that, ?
