hey, i have a samsung vibrant, the t959 or something..
I rooted my phone, and then used the one click lag fix from the market.
Does this mean that i won't be able to get OTA(over the air) updates, or when i DO update it, will it soft brick? because it's soft bricked before and i had to return it to t mobile and get a new one for 10$ shipping fee, and my parents don't wanna deal with the trouble again.
so questions again:
-Will i recieve OTA updates even after lag fix?
-Will my phone soft brick (stuck on vibrant/samsung screen ) when i do update it?
ALSO a quick question...
if you have a samsung vibrant with the latest and newest firmware, and on your phone it doesn't say theres a update...
can you go to settings, scroll to bottom and press SOFTWARE UPDATE, does it say "no firmware"
thanks for the help, and so far these forums are awesome help.
someone please help me

You will still get OTA updates, but if you try to install them, you WILL soft brick. That is easy to recover from if you install Odin and flash back to stock software (directions are all over the place around here).
I would warn that even if you undo and uninstall the lag fix, you still risk a soft brick accepting OTA updates (happened to me with the JI6 update). Your best bet is to learn how to recover from a soft brick with Odin rather than returning your phone to T-Mobile, otherwise avoid rooting and all that comes with it.
To answer your last question, yet, you get that message when there are no firmware updates. Pushing the button doesn't get you an OTA update any faster either.
So if i did the lagfix without making the nandroid backup, the better way is to use Odin to flash back to stock?
The factory reset of the phone itself no longer bring me back to stock after lag fix?
Oh my God! Thank you so much. Im VERY protective but can you link me to the place of the guide for Odin of not ill ask someone else no worries thanks so much

I am about to buy a bricked Aria, it won't load past the ATT screen, is there any way to root it without going through Windows? Like with my Evo, I was able to root that either through Windows or through the HBOOT screen.
EDIT: Does anyone know if this method would unbrick the phone?

Can you access the boot loader?
Ninja edit -- if you can't access the boot loader, than you probably won't be able to unbrick the phone.

If you can get to the att screen then you should be able to access recovery by shutting off the phone and using volume down + power buttons to boot up. If you can do that then you SHOULD be able to fix it.

Just wondering... How do you brick a phone that's not rooted? It's not like you can brick it by installing a new ROM to a non-rooted phone.
I haven't bought the phone yet, I'm assuming he probably tried rooting and failed, I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't load past the att logo. And as you said, if it can get to the att logo, you should be able to get to the boot loader, right?
If I can get to the boot loader, I could probably load the stock rom to get it to load into the os to root through revoked.

Correct. As long as you can get to bootloader you can restore the phone.

Awesome, thanks for the help!
You could essentially have him pay you to fix his phone. But that wouldn't be very nice... =P

What can I use to unroot? I tried SuperOneClick but it can't get rid of super user. I used z4 to root.
It's ok, I figured it out.

You can search this thread to relock the boot loader. However it will not relock the bootloader completely it will set the Phone status to 2.

To remove the annoying message while you but up you can try

How do I get rid of that message at the beginning of boot where it says something like push any key to pause boot that your bootloader is unlocked or something like that how do I get rid of that message at the beginning of boot?
You can't. Learn to live with it [emoji6]

Go back to completely stock and re-lock the boot loader.
Otherwise you live with it like everyone else.

This!
While a crappy message, it serves a purpose. The only way to get rid of it is to flash back to stock and then release tech_head said.
