We all know that the Z1 is 4G capable but does anyone know what UK networks. I want to stay on vodafone but have read in a couple of places that it wont work on Vodafone 4G but should on EE 4G?
Can anyone shed any definitive light on this please?

You won't get much 4G mate. I have Vodafone sim and O2 sim in my zuk z1. The only time I've connected to 4G was when I was in London. Outside of that I can't remember ever connecting to 4G on either sim on this phone and I live in Greater Manchester and work in central Manchester during day.
hi, I'm on three network and get good 4g reception especially at home (Nottingham), faster than my Virgin wi-fi, much better than on my previous phone (HTC One M7).
I was using this phone on EE - 4G signal at my house, but coverage is a bit patchy in my area. But it definitely works on 4G.

I just wanted to post a warning message for all users contemplating using Orange. I have switched from Vodafone to Orange. I have an unlocked SPV 3100. While I was using a Vodafone sim I has a 3G signal 85 – 90% of the time.
I have now switched over to orange (Business contract) and in the same device I have seen a 3G signal once (for about 30 seconds) in 3 weeks. I live and work in central London so this seems ridiculous!
There are two companies I am involved with who have bought business phones for all their staff who work all over London. All users have huge signal problems. It seems that Oranges infrastructure is far inferior to other networks. I can’t believe that in a major city I cannot get a 3G signal. Most of the time I have 2 bars on a GPRS signal.
So anyone currently contemplating which service provider to choose be warned. It is a shame because the SPV 3100 is a great looking phone, if only Orange had the coverage to allow you to use it properly!
It turns out that Orange provided me with a sim card which was not 3G Capable. I new sim should sort this issue out!
Thought it was strange i live in central London and my phone (Universal) nearly always has 3g availability with the full 4 bars of signal when i'm at home.
Before this phone I had the Blue Angel (M2000 - only 2.5g) and I would only get 1-2 bars of signal when i was at home.
Hope the new SIM sorts it.
Matt

Completely agree with this. I was an original user of Orange back in '94 until earlier this year - swapped to O2 cos signal 'seems' to be better than the others. Use Voda for work and O2 is consistenly better where I live/go for business (including London)
I used to drive from Manchester Airport around the M60 and then 6 miles north and used to lose calls 4 times on the journey in exactly the same place (despite having a properly fitted car kit). Orange really needs to sort it's network strength out.
Yep I switched from O2 to Orange a few months back. I can't believe how crappy 3g coverage is at my house and in the office (west London, W4/W5)... very disappointing.
Im looking at buying a 3g phone, mainly for the odd web browse while im out. I live in rural west wales (uk)and I was suprised to find the the nearest town (aberystwyth) has 3g coverage by all networks except tmobile.
What i'd like to know is although it looks like HSDPA is currently not enabled by any network in this area (going off the coverage maps) who would be the best bet for rolling it out first?
At the moment im leaning going towards orange as they have slightly better coverage then the rest, 02 being second, voda 3rd and suprisingly 3 last.
Its a shame its so hard to find out network rollout plans!
My area in upstate New York has superior coverage for ATT 3G on the coverage map yet my xperia x1A switches often to Edge with an E displaying. I also have consistently experienced only 2 bars when in the "H" or 3G network....Does something have to be changed in the settings or does the phone just not fit the bill....This is unacceptable for such an expensive phone...
Is it the phone or your carrier/operator/provider ??
I'm gettin' 4 bars all the time (HSDPA, 850MHz)
I don't think any operators coverage maps are very accurate..
According to vodaphone my closest tower is 3g, according to offcom it's not..
Ofcom can be quite out of date. A site went up near work curious to find out who it belonged to I checked on the Sitefinder website only to be told one wasn't there. Six months later still no info.
I'm traveling to India (specifically Delhi, Udaipur, Jaipur and Agra). I'm planning on getting a local sim to put into my unlocked TMobile G2. My primary usage is going to be data. Does anyone know which mobile operator offers the best data speeds with the G2 in India?
Not that it should matter, I'm running CM6.1.1

CM6!!!! what. Get on that CM7 bro
Sorry don't know much about India's mobile operators.
Okay, okay you convinced me. I upgraded to cm7. I had been having problems with it hanging at the cyanogen screen on bootup but I actually spent the 15 minutes figuring out how to fix the problem and now I've upgraded.
Anybody got a clue on my original question about data carriers in India? Does anyone in india use a Desire Z or G2?
If it is town area or highways, better go with AirTel, They have the good coverage.
If remote, you can try vodafone, or BSNLor MTNL (the have most coverage).
I dunno about other operators coverage, like TATA Docomo or Reliance.
2G data is cheap in India, for airtel ucan get 2GB at Rs.98 (~2$) and 4GB for the same in TATA Docomo.
3G is just introduced in last december, so few data plans an coverage also.
Not all operaors have 3G coverage in all areas,,only BSNL has dat in all circles.
You can check bsnl.co.in for 3G tariffs.
Cool. Thanks for the information!
I have just tried a 4g Sim in my note 3 the status bar shows an h which is what it has always showed. It never showed 3g just h.
If I am connected to 4g what should that bar show an l for late or 4g?
I am in the UK and currently with three but testing ee's 4g service.
Thanks

You get a HSDPA+ signal if you're not in a 4G area, I am in the same boat, I am also with Three (waiting for their 4G service to come out before deciding weather to switch).

Cool but on 4G what should the status bar say?
On 3G it shows H rather than 3G so I don't know what it will show when correctly connected to 4G.
Thanks
It will show 4g.. see attached..

Three are piggybacking on EE's network for LTE, I am with them also, and EE have the fastest bands currently. So I expect the LTE to be spot on. Currently their signal strength has gotten really poor, I am hoping it's because they are swapping the bands to jump on EE.

Where did you hear that? As far as I'm aware, Three are building their own LTE network, though some of it will be spectrum acquired from EE.
Three did share it's 3g network with TMo/EE, but I've not heard that this is the case for 4g.

I first read it on a Three web forum, I was quizzing them about how the signal strength had suddenly gotten super poor. Can't remember which site it was I scoured so many as it was and still is annoying that signal barely goes over 2 bars even in a big city (Leeds)
As for the spectrum, they purchased some from EE but are running on their network bands (only intial start up maybe?) - EE 4G goes live here (York) this month and Three goes live January. So close together would assume that the starting of it would be on EE's spectrums until further?

The spectrum they bought from EE was in the 1800MHz band - the very same band than EE's LTE sits in.
So no. I don't think they will be using EE's network at all.

Three are not piggybacking on EE's network, they merely acquired some of the 1800Mhz spectrum from EE (That EE was forced to sell by OFCOM to get the go-ahead for their early 4G Rollout), supposedly Three got it for free as well. Three also acquired some 800Mhz spectrum during the auction, so they have both.
As far as I understand, Three aren't allowed to use all of the 1800Mhz spectrum they acquired until September 2015, but they can use 2x10Mhz of it now. I don't know which of the two blocks they're using for their current rollout, or if they're using both.
Never mind all of that, you should see 4G in the status bar if you're on 4G. Make sure you go into the settings and set the Note to connect to LTE/WCDMA/GSM services - my Three Note 3 didn't originally have that option and when it recently appeared, it was still on WCDMA/GSM.
