I get "Error" when I try to take OTA from the notification in the OS. It reboots, shows updating and then the lil guy dies with "Error"
I then try to flash it from stock recovery and get a message about "unexpected contents" and a side load error status 7....
I was trying to install the OTA without having to wipe the device or restore it to factory. I have wiped cache and tried as well with the same result.
Anything else I can try?
Starting with Lollipop, OTAs can be installed only on a fully stock system, either unrooted or with systemless root.
I unrooted still no go. I suppose I have to restore to stock...

That's your best bet. I used the sparse chunk system files to go back to 6.0 stock. The update came through and worked just fine.

I just did the 4.2.2 update for my phone and now when I try to turn it on all I get is the X logo... it's been stuck that way for a while now... anything I can do?
hey, try rebooting into recovery and wiping cache, and factory reset if that doesn't work. PM me for more help. cheers
This is really bizzarre.... I wiped the cache and turned it on... it showed the lock screen (without the unlock slider) and I got an SMS... then it went back the X logo and is stuck again...
out of curiousity OP did you do the update via the OTA or did you sideload it?

OTA, now i downloaded the factory image and am trying to flash it with the .bat file included
FYI, I found an archived jop40d image, flashed that, still hung at the X. Wiped data, wiped cache, and now it has started and is working (4.2.1). I'll try the 4.2.2 OTA later
Update 2: Tried the OTA again, won't boot again. Flashing jdq39 now...
Update 3: Flashed jop40d (4.2.1), phone is working okay now, i guess I'll have to avoid the update for now
Ok do I did search first but can't find anyone with the same problem.
Started with stock 4.3 rooted, unlocked,TWRP.
Got the update notification, told it to update. It auto rebooted to TWRP and applied the update with no error. When it was done (assuming it was done progress bar finished) it went to the main TWRP menu. I told it to reboot and it just sits at the new 4.3 splash screen animation. I assumed it may take a bit so I let it sit for about 20min with no change. Rebooted it a couple times, also tried applying the update again via twrp (errors out as i woukd expect). Wiped dalvik and cache. Didn't do a factory wipe because I'd like to avoid that but still no change.
Any suggestions? Should I manually load the full 4.4 package via TWRP?
Thanks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Same exact setup... Say exact issue... Oh and before rebooting I wiped Dalvik and Cache as "Sandard Operating Proceedure" ... I'm going to just do a clean flash at this point....

Prior to the installation of the OTA it is safer to re-install stock recovery. Root is lost but re-installing a custom recovery and SuperSu bring back root.

How can i install stock recovery?
You *could* unzip the factory image and then fastboot the recovery.img file. A lot easier is to download the wugfresh nexus root toolkit and use that:
http://www.wugfresh.com/
ty, but do u think it works, because i cant open my nexus 10 memory from the pc, since it is stuck at start up
Wug's toolkit has an option to restore to stock from a bricked system. All you need to be able to do is to get to the bootloader (press the power button while holding down both volume buttons -- you should get a dead android with a red triangle on chest).
I updated using this guide:
http://www.droidviews.com/update-att-lg-g2-to-android-4-4-2-kitkat-without-losing-root-and-twrp/
All was well until I got a message for the OTA update mentioned in the post below and allowed it. I know, stupid.

So now my phone just boots into TWRP recovery and nothing seems to get me out of it. I've cleared the cache, I've wiped the phone, I've reinstalled the Zip. Everything just reboots me into TWRP. Is there a way out of this without flashing back to stock?
Nexus 4 with stock (originally 4.4.2), which wouldn't update to 4.4.3, due to TWRP being installed, so when 4.4.4 came around, thought I would download and flash myself. Not a huge expert, but have certainly flashed several phones successfully previously.
Initially using the Nexus Root Toolkit, unrooted etc, downloaded the correct file from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, tried to update, and would not write the radio file (waited for ages), tried to do using adb etc, no go.
Finally downloaded the 4.4.2 image, and using fastboot, this successfully did everything up to userdata, erased userdata successfully, and sent file, but never completes writing. (writing 'userdata'...) If I reboot, just gets stuck on the 4 circles.
Have installed CWM and tried doing a factory reset, but can not mount data....
Anyone able to assist?
Thanks

Panic over...
Perseverence seemed to pay off. Just did more of the same, and tried installing the userdata by itself. Seems to have worked.
But now am stock, and still doesn't seem to want to install the updates....
Well, thought it was stock, but the latest OTA didn't install. Don't really know why, as I wasn't watching, but it did the download, then kicked off the install, but when I came back to it, was just sitting at the home screen, no messages and the update hadn't happened - still sitting on 4.4.2.
I had flashed 4.4.2, and I thought the only bit that hadn't worked was the userdata, which I flashed separately, recovery has been flashed to stock recovery...
Why hasn't it updated?
And how can I tell if 'everything' is stock?
Thanks.
My OP2 is currently 100% stock, never rooted, and is running Oxygen OS 2.2.1. I have tried OTAing, flashing dirty and clean but the phone itself keeps getting the boot loop logo (Powered by Android screen with the capacity buttons off). I have enabled google apps so I'm not sure what is causing the bootloop. A history of my phone is that on 2.1.0, I tried updating the phone via OTA and I would get "Installation failed" once the entire bar finishes in Recovery. The same thing happened for 2.2.0 > 2.2.1 so I had to dirty flash the phone, otherwise I would get "Installation failed".
I keep a spare file of 2.2.1 off of Oneplus' download site so whenever this boot loop occurs, I turn the phone off and go into recovery > install from downloads > and flash the 2.2.1.

Hi, my phone is on 2.2.1 fine. but every time i try to update (ota shows me 3.1.0) i get a boot loop
I just tried the 3.1.0 OTA and my phone got stuck on the Powered by android screen. I had to turn the phone off and go into recovery and flashed my 2.2.1 file to unbrick myphone.
try the full rom zip intead of the OTA.

Try it without wiping first. If it works , you wont lose your data.
Edit: If you dont mind losing your data, I would suggest that you use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/guide-official-op2-stock-reset-to-oos-3-t3402020
This will flash OxygenOS 3.0.2 and restore all partitions to stock.
This should also solve your OTA problems.
