The Honor 5X comes built in with a large 3,000 mAh battery and a integrated power-saving technology within EMUI called the Smart Power Manager 3.0 that allows it to have a long battery life compared to other smartphones. With a foundation such as this and its related features, the Honor 5X in your hands is able to do more.
If you feel that your battery drains quickly, there are some tips you can employ to ensure that your 5X lasts even longer.
Tip 1
Under normal day-to-day usage, selecting Smart Power Saving is recommended for everyone. To save more power, you should close apps that are not in use, as leaving them running on the background will drain the battery quicker.
Guidance: Tap the square button on the navigation bar to clean up some or all the apps running in the background.
Power saving and cleaning up apps running in the background are the most basic requirements for power saving. If you will like to further reduce power consumption and extend battery life, the following contents will be useful to you.
Tip 2
As the display uses the most battery, reducing the screen brightness and setting it under the automatic brightness setting, as well as reducing the sleep duration time will improve battery life.
Guidance: Under Display, deactivate Auto-rotate screen to reduce the use of gravity sensor.
At the same time, shorten the time for Sleep when there is no operation, and change Brightness to Automatic brightness will also reduce power consumption. Power consumption will be reduced if the above three criteria are achieved. In addition, Display network speed will also increase power consumption and deactivate it if needed.
Tip 3
By default the EMUI system will set your Wi-Fi network settings on during sleep, but by setting this to your usage preference, the user will be able to improve battery life.
Guidance: Under WLAN Advanced settings you can choose "Only when plugged in".
If high-speed network is not necessary, the users can only select 2G in network mode.
Tip 4
Audio plays a part too. Under Sound, by switching the necessary alert tones like vibration in the navigation bar will consume more power in the background. Location services can also be switched off as this will consume more power as it searches for your location constantly.
Guidance: Under Sound settings, you can disable"Vibrate on Touch", and change the "Location Mode" to battery saving under the Location Access.
You can also select the low power consumption mode through WLAN or data traffic. Activate GPS when there is need for navigation.
Tip 5
Protected Apps and features like Automatic Startup during Power On can be set up on your preferential needs. The less protected apps, the more power can be saved.
To conclude, you can compare what I have mentioned with your current Honor 5X settings and change the settings in order to enjoy long battery life ahead!

amazing device.
getting excellent battery life.

Seriously, its not so much of the battery issues of Honor 5X, its the memory management of the EMUI. I can't have my Chinese Social App running. Its lags so much as I suspected this device is built from China XD. I tried it for a month as main driver and its disappointing. If you have smartwatch connecting via bluetooth and some Social Apps running. You can misses some phone call as the phone will freezes till the time you need a reboot.I always using Sammy and LG.This is my first Chinese device. And its not my main driver now and its run better. I considering getting the 2016 flagship soon. Should I go for the mate 8, P7 for the Chinese Devices or stick with LG G5. But very disappointed with my G4 hardware problem. And also the cheap WiFi chip they have in Honor 5X can't even have 5G connection.
Look @ the WiFi connection speed. Its can't even optimize my full Home Internet FiOS speed of 150/150 Mbps.
And here my main driver WiFi connection

Cellstanby looks higher then it should be..but I assume you have installed some App...that is updating/syncing when in standby mode...with no apps installed it should be around 2%.
The screen will always be the major battery drainer...You need to plan already in the morning, how many hours you plan to use the phone heavily, that means surfing the web or watching movies...Since we all bought the note cause we want this very bright screen, we should of course use the highest amount of brightness to you surrive the day...I am still learning this...
When using auto brightness plus let the system and adjust screen power enabled I get the screen battery usage to 22%..which is impressive...sure you get used to low brightness even when watching videos..but when you A/B compare with auto brightness and 100% brightness it looks like night and day...for getting the best video experience you really want 100% brightness... depending on the video content of course..
When having 100% brightness the screen usually takes between 57% and 67% and this is my major complaint with this phone (besides lagging UI)... when using 100% brightness it eats battery...sure you can use the phone for a couple of hours heavy use with 100% brigthness but not a full workday.... about 2.5 hour of video...
Well I would love if some one could do a more in depth benchmark test with graphs etc... on saving power etc..
I hope there will be a stronger battery in future to upgrade...
I think I will begin to take the battery charger with me to work... so I can use 100% brightness all day..cause then this phone is a pure joy to use...
your phone is at 55% after 9.5 hours and you are complaining
Well I wouldn't to my eyes these are more than normal, rather in the very good range.
In my case the major drainer is not the Display but the voice calls, all I am asking for (battery wise) is a full day (14 hours or so) and I can't get this no matter what I tried, it is always failing short at around 10hours or so.
I would be more than happy with 55% after 10hours
I see, what are those unused CPU states?
Also I have no power saving stuff or battery saving apps going on. Nor do I go out of my way to save battery, I just use my phone when I need it.
One cool trick you can do to reduce screen draw is to adjust brightness on the fly: hold your finger down on the notification bar and drag left to lower brightness and right to increase it.
I usually have my brightness set low and only increase it when I'm in a bright environment like outside in the sun.
well i don't know u but, i had my phone for 2 days and 15 hours, and it still at 14 % , i just plug in to my pc for 10 mins last nigths because i was testing some apps

Nice! I hadn't heard of that before! Looks like you have to have auto brightness turned off, though.

[Q] Newly rooted NC having battery issues...

Got a NC for xmas and rooted it and installed cm7.1 and everything seems to be working well except the battery. I went under battery use and i see that Display is eating about 60% of my battery! I turned brightness down to 25%-ish and i have also turned off everything i am not using but the problem still persists. I have seen people saying i need to do some kind of battery calibration but i do not know how to do this. If someone can help me get this issue resolved it would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, you can only do so much about screen battery consumption. Turn brightness down as far as is comfortable, but personally, I don't want to give up the vibrant display. I find 25% is usually adequate indoors. With my screen ON, it consumes roughly 10% per hour of use, which equates to 8-10 hours of use -- not bad. With the screen OFF, it sips less than 1% per hour, and often less than that over a few hours.
Keep in mind, you WANT screen battery consumption to be the largest value. That means it's nice and idle when you're not using it. If something else is using a significant amount of battery, that may be something you can do something about.
As to calibration, I do find that Android battery gauges often are incorrect until you let the battery completely discharge from a full charge once. Then it's calibrated correctly. Of course, that's not recommended for battery health, so don't do it compulsively. I had a device that showed 1% battery remaining for 3 hours while I played MP3 audio.
I wish i was getting 10% an hour, im getting roughly 20% I now have another issue that i did not have this morning, i can not connect to my computer via USB. Is there a setting i might have turned off in my fit to increase battery life?
@Lsjreadingpa Renaming /system/app/phone.apk to phone.bak is a commonly undertaken act that can significantly lower battery usage. Also, you can turn off Account Sync when not using it actively, as it increases battery drain when you are not actively using the NC.
As far as the USB is concerned, make sure you have USB debugging checked in the settings menu.

How do i rename it? Also a bit of an update, i have turned off syncing as well as alot of the other options and i am losing 5%/20min
Last night I cleared cache and battery stats and let the battery die and then charged it to full this morning. Like I said above I turned off syncing and gps as well as removing beautiful Widgets. I just don't know what else to do. I'm attatching two screenshots showing my battery use in the last hour.

You can use Spare Parts to check what's consuming battery if your DOMAIN supports it.
Anyone able to help?
Are you concerned about battery consumption while you're using it? If so, then your brightness and the applications you're running are going to determine your battery life.
If it's battery consumption while idle (screen off) that you're concerned about, then do you have any widgets that do network access? I found that my battery life dramatically improved when I was no longer using the Twitter widget.
In Spare Parts you can go to Battery History, then check 'Partial Wake Usage'... this can help you figure out if there's an application that's preventing the device from going to sleep.
I would recommend trying a newer nightly or the Mirage/Kang build found in the Android Dev sub-forum here. I forget when they were added, but there were a few big improvements to CM7 a while ago to help with battery life.
Battery consumption while using it is kinda of scary because it drops like a brick. While sleeping, which i don't think it was doing, seemed to get better after i removed beautiful widgets. How different is the Kang build?
The Kang build has an updated kernel and other updates since the last CM7 nightly. It's supposed to fix an SOD issue. I've been running it for a while and am very happy with the battery life.
Like others have said, battery life while using it would most likely be helped by adjusting the display brightness, kernel settings and/or stopping "rogue" apps. You can see the kernel settings by going into the Settings Menu, then Cyanogenmod Settings then Performance. I use the InteractiveX governor (I believe "Performance" is the one that keeps the CPU ramped up constantly) with the highest overclock.

EMUI Battery Manager - In Depth details

Battery is the crucial inbuilt equipment segment of advanced mobile phones. We would truly appreciate the shrewdness of smartphones when we have a strong and reliable battery.
With EMUI 4.0 Honor introduces an app call “Battery manager”. Battery Manager is a battery-saving software, which enhances the smartphone battery life upto 30 percent. It offers so many options related to battery consumption like power plan, consumption level, power usage details etc.
It is very simple and allows us to prevent specific apps that eat more battery. Apps such as Facebook and FB Messenger have been repeatedly accused of draining battery. When an app appears to be eating battery in the background, we'll get a notification with the option to close the app. Nine times out of ten, we've closed these apps when reminded, whereas other devices we'd have just left them to roll-on.
How Battery manager manages battery?
Battery manager is available inside Phone manager app.

When you select Battery Manager it gives you so many options related to manage battery consumption. Like power plan, protected apps, power usages, firewall, consumption level, power usages details and remaining battery percentages. All these options gives you different level of control over battery usages.
Features of Battery manager:
1. Power Plan: It allows you to change your mobile battery consumption level by choosing different power plans. By default, the Honor Phone uses the “Smart” power plan. This plan automatically adjusts the CPU speed for balanced performance. For most people in normal daily situations, the “Smart” plan is the best choice. However, if you play a lot of games and watch a lot of videos, you might want to use the “Performance” plan. Or if your phone having low battery you can choose “Ultra” plan. It allows your phone to sip battery to the very last drop.
2. Protected apps: It allows the you to configure which apps can run in the background when the device is locked, we believe this feature enables the user to run only few of the most important applications while the devices is locked. This means saving a lot of unwanted data costs . For example, most users may not want Facebook to run all the time expect for the time when the device is being used and may want to run only WhatsApp to get the message notifications all the time. This also optimizes your battery performance and data consumption while keeping only the important Apps running.
3. Consumption Level: Consumption level is a feature which helps us to know how much battery is consumed by our smartphone. It scans both hardware and software battery consumption.
As it has both options of h/w and s/w. Software option let us to know what percent of battery is consumed by software (System plus 3rd party apps). When we click on software option it shows how much battery is consumed by which app. It tells about both system plus downloaded apps.
Same with Hardware option also. It tells which hardware part of our mobile is consuming how much battery.
Background option is telling about how much power intensive app is running in background.
It shows all currently power intensive app running since from last charged and the type of app like frequently used app or keep awakening kind of app.
From Consumption Level Feature we can observe which apps are consuming which amount of battery.
4. Power usage firewall: Power usage firewall is same as background option of power consumption level. It also tells the currently power intensive app running in background, since from last charged. It also tells about the type of app like frequently used app or keep awakening kind of app. It gives option to select and close the unused app.
5. Power usage details: Power usage details tell about battery usages History.
It shows a graph of battery consumption versus time duration. Like the given image, it explains amount of battery consume between 5am to 5pm or amount of battery consume between 5am to 12pm.
6. Remaining battery percentage: It tells us how much percent of battery is remaining to use. It appears in notification bar near to battery icon.
To show the remaining battery percentage we need to toggle and activate this option.

Battery options and different battery saving modes (EMUI Feature)

This phone not only provides a long lasting battery but also have the inbuilt battery modes as per the requirements. You can change the battery mode as per the need and based on my experience it is really handy in case you are running out of battery. With my earlier phone, I ran into such situations many a times when I am outside and battery goes off mid-day and I am left with no option to either come back home leaving my work in between or simply spoil my mood with frustration. In case of emergency you need only calling feature but sometimes the situation becomes worse when phone battery goes off. With the inbuilt battery feature, you can change the battery modes to last longer and to save the time for you so that you don’t need to carry charger with you all the time and you can do your work peacefully without bothering about the battery.
Performance Mode- If you need to play the high end games or multitasking. If you enable this mode, you won’t feel a lag in games or while switching across multiple applications.
Smart Mode- If you are using light applications and using your phone for basic usage of calling, some social media that are not power intensive.
Ultra-Mode- This is the mode you need when you are running out of battery juice and still having long hours to go for the charging. This mode will gain you access to calling and messaging but this is what you really need in case of those hours when you battery is less than 10%.

There are some other useful options available as well in this phone.
Protected apps- you can set which all apps you need when screen turned off like your email account, WhatsApp, social media accounts and disable all other apps which you really don’t need once the screen is off and inbuilt mechanism will kill those apps to consume less battery and RAM to enhance your battery standby time.
Power Intensive apps- you will get notified which all apps are consuming more battery and you can kill them manually to save the juice as per the need.

LG G6 very short SOT

Hi, I have issue with my lg g6 .
The phone is about 1 months old but I reach very poor SoT max 2,5 h.
I check the main forum threads, but i cannot fix the issue
- I use the newest software
- greenify
- during this 2 hours I use only chrome/messenger/instagram
- it does not matter if I used wifi or data
- home app: home
- other apps: swipe, keepass2android, dropbox

install better battery stats, give it permissions via ADB.
Then monitor a full charge and see what partial wakelocks, alarms, processes are using your battery.

Hi I did, how you told.
I charged the phone up to 100% and left for 30 minutes without any use and captured following screenshots.
Do I understand correctly that the phone is always awake because of the lg gnss bloatware?
are you getting same battery life on lte and wifi
your lte signal looking too low
if it fluctuate a lot then it will take a lot of battery .
0% deep sleep
I don't mean to be glib, but the advice for battery issues is always the same (and mind-numbing basic):
1. Remove unnecessary apps
2. Factory reset the phone
None of the dozens of other tweaks mentioned here make a difference for most people.
And you can't do anything about signal strength.

I supposed that all the tweaks can barely help. I had hope that I could find some fix before reset the factory settings. In some way the phone is to be used and it is simply annoing the set the whole setting from scratch after reset....
But I think I don't have any other possibility (or I can wait for a Pie and hope for the improvement after the update)

Try to disable the WIFI and Bluetooth searching for improve the location. And then do again the test to see the deep sleep.
With accubattery app, you can estimate how"healthy" your battery is.
In normal usage, you would get about 18% of battery usage per hour with screen on, and max 1% with screen off
I made some tests with AccuBattery and the drain on screen on is unacceptable about 25-28%. The battery health is about 96%.
I use mcs magisk module with 90/80% config since day one with greenify + xposed module and after a year of relatively heavy use I'm still getting ~6h SoT (35% brightness). Maybe you should try to greenify some apps? Without root you have limited options though.
