Does anyone agree that the battery life for Samsung Focus is really short?
I use my phone to check emails, browse websites and listen to music during lunch, dinner and on the road. The total hands on time per day is roughly 2hrs. But if I only charge it overnight, not anytime else, it only last until right after dinner.
It unacceptably short comparing to my ex-phone, HTC Touch Pro2.
Anyone experiencing the same thing?
Who should take care of this issue? Samsung or Microsoft?
My phone on moderate use will last me 1.5-2 days but I usually charge it at the end of the night regardless. In the first couple of days I did notice that the battery would drain pretty fast but seemed to get better after that.
Mine will typically go from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. or so while still having the battery indicator having something inside. That's with it being used all day as an mp3 player, triaging email, web surfing, and Twitter.
When you get a new phone the battery has to go through a couple of cycles charging for the phone to calibrate. Also, keep in mind things that drain battery: light theme, streaming, basically downloading massive amounts of data. Make you sure you discharge your battery to about 10% and fully charge your battery a couple of times. Try not to go below 10% not good for battery. Make sure you are using wall adapter ac to charge. Charging from a pc is very slow and generally doesn't fully charge unless you leave it plugged for a LONG time.
Light use I'd say 1.5 days
Moderate 1 full day
Heavy use 7-8 hours
With light use i get about 4 to 5 days, heavy use i get about a day or two. Check to see if you have location services (GPS) running, wifi, etc as the more parasitic things you can turn off the better the battery life of course.
Mine lasts all day for me. A long 16+ hour day with moderate usage leaves me at about 30-35% battery. I keep Wi-Fi turned off and bluetooth always on. Not bad for a smart phone. I've seen phones far worse than this (Sprint Epic anyone?).
My battery last abour 8 - 9 hours, and I'm running for a outlet by then. But I'm a heavy user. Bt headphones with the music playing, twitter constantly, facebook, text, email, IE..., pretty much all of those 8 - 9 hours.
I have just about everything that I can find turned on, and have been using my new toy as much as possible. With that, I'm having to charge about twice a day, which is roughly where I was at with my Tilt2. Your battery drainage really sounds like it's normal, and likely related entirely to how much crap you have turned on and running in the background. The biggest drainer of the battery in any phone is gonna be the radio, so if you want to improve battery life, turn off stuff that connects to the network and set your email/weather/tweets/facebook to refresh much less often. Select "as items arrive" for your hotmail and Gmail so that they push instead of pull. Check your basics first before trying to find a customer service rep to chew out.
I'm happy with my battery life. I just charge it every night like I have every phone Ive owned. I use my phones as my morning alarm clock. I have all location services active, and i activate WiFi when usable. At work I leave it plugged in to stream music and podcast.
Coming from Android and Droid Incredible, the Focus is awesome on battery. I have no problem lasting the full day. I charge my phone each night overnight.
It's a mixed bag for me. the first few days when I was just getting to know it, making calls and just goofing around with basic functionality the battery was lasting very long and things were looking great.
Once I started using the data and other apps, the battery drains very fast IMO. I mean play a 2D game for half an hour and I won’t make it through the day.
Right now I’m not digging it that if I’m out and about I feel like I need to avoid using the phone like I would like to.
I’m really looking forward to being able to do things like being able to easily disable 3g.
I'm most certainly happy with my battery life. After using a nexus one, xperia x10 and the galaxy s I have nothing to complain about with the focus....just lovin wp7 at the moment.

Games are always battery killers, especially on AMOLED screens that tend to get the best battery life with black interfaces, since they actually don't light the pixels up if they're supposed to be black.
Coming from an iPhone 4 i can't complain. Battery on that was amazing. The focus doesn't Last at long but I can't say im disappointed. It's actually better than expected.
It is normal for the battery to die after browsing the internet for about 3-4 hours?? Not happy about that.
Battery life
It depends on how the phone has been used. Screen is the biggest power drain, than the radio (3G data, WiFI, location services).
With all on and moderate usage (gaming for 30 mins, a few calls, and playing with the phone for an hour) I get about 12 -13 hours.
With all off and a few TXT and calls (about 10 -12) I get about 76 hours.
Not bad I guess.
This phone is better than iPhone 3GS.

I agree, I was loosing full battery within half a day with my normal usage for the first 4-6 days... Then after a while, now I can go for 2 days without charging under normal usage...
The battery life on this thing rocks!

I use my Focus heavily for reading texts off of PDFs and browse the internet using WiFi most of the day, and in my free times I listen to music so I use it quite heavily. Yesterday I ran it through my routine day and got about 14-15 hours of full operational time from 100% charge as I took off from my dormitory to university to 0% half-way back to my dorm. My only problem is the length of time it has to be plugged in to charge. Its pretty slow, but that may be because of the large battery capacity to begin with.
the battery life is just OK, hopefully like with other cellphone updates maybe battery life will be improved at least somewhat, we can hope....
I have two of these things. Mine I use a lot and while the battery lasts less than my old 3GS, I am getting used to it and end up keeping hooked up to a charger pretty often.
My wife's on the other hand is baffling. She hardly uses the thing, maybe a call every day or two. For a while there we were getting about 3 days from a charge and then it would still have around 30%-50% left.
Now in the last few days, it drains the battery completely overnight. And I mean completely its totally shut down and dead. That’s with wifi and Bluetooth off and virtually no usage. Not sure what is happening, but this really sucks as now she can’t count on the thing to just be a phone without needing to be babied.
No real life review thread on this one yet, so let's get the ball rolling on this. Any Telstra customers with their device have anything to say on this?
I haven't felt the need to charge mine yet. Because I don't have one.
And no one still share his battery life...
Can you share with us guys? Like guys with Pixel XL did
So, i'm gonna give it a go.
I am really satisfied with the battery life after three days of being a daily driver.
After my day of work it has 31% left with google assistant/now, 70% WiFi 30% LTE, Bluetooth always on, auto adjust brightness 3.56 hours display time, most of the time i used chrome.
No pics because i don't know to add them via mobile browser.
For now: much better than my old nex5 and OnePlusX.
I like!
I just got mine today and fully charged it and then synced my n5x, rebooted and it was down to 90%. Highly intensive processing so I'll not judge by that. Did some more setup, charged again. Phone call for about 30 min, down to 95%. Not bad but not great. It's way too early for me to make a determination as some here have been running it for 3 days with better results.
I'll either update this post or make a new one depending on traffic. Overnight will tell me a lot. I've been getting about 0.5% - 0.8% / hour drain overnight on my 5x so let's see how this one does. One thing I will say is that the phone is beautiful, great size, great feel. great display and quick as a bug. If the battery holds up it's a definite keeper for sure. If any of you have an iPhone 6 or 6s, put them side by side and I dare you to tell them apart. lol.
There is another thread on this but my battery is abysmsl
Google Play services battery drain. No unusual apps, pretty much out of the box because its getting replaced already due to screen issues. Not sure why...
I have really high android OS usage, but still get great battery life. 4 hours SOT, 16 hours usage. Will be interesting to see what i can get when I find the cause of this Android OS drain
Phone calls kill me but otherwise not looking too bad.
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers mobile app
The phone lasts me the entire day, but by the end of the day its pretty close to dying out.
So not as good as my S7 Edge, or even close, however it's good enough.
I charge my phone every night, anyways, so doesn't really bother me.
I was less than impressed to be honest. I'll know more when I actually spend a few days with it out and in use.
I must not use my phone all that much. So far, extremely better battery than my iPhone 5s. I guess it is a doubling in mAh but also a bigger screen. I am happy with it so far.
Definitely doesn't charge to 70% in 15 minutes though like they bragged about.

Well they said "7 hours of use" from 15 minutes of charging, whatever the hell that means lol.
Coming from a Galaxy S6 Edge I am very happy with my battery life. Currently I'm at 1 day 5 hrs with 2 hrs 5 min phone calls and 1 hr 47 min of screentime with about an hour of music in there....right now I have 28% left. I typically use my phone for browsing the web, chatting, work email and facebook so all in all I'm very pleased.

They never said that. They said 7 hours of use in 15 minutes.
I'm actually pretty happy with it so far. I have the regular Pixel and in my few full days of normal usage I'm getting through the day pretty easily. 8AM - 11PM or so leaves me with about 10% left on the phone, and usually approx 4.5 hours of screen on time. This is especially impressive to me since this is with GPS ON, Bluetooth ON, mostly on LTE with only "ok" reception in my office, auto-brightness set half way, everything syncing, connected to my gear fit 2. That's definitely better than I got on the 5x and way better than I was getting on my last phone - the galaxy s7. I was getting maybe at most 3.5 hours screen on time with the S7, and that was with GPS OFF, brightness set to around 30% or as low as I could set it and still see clearly, and even with a ROM that included battery optimizations (and yes it did seem to provide slightly more battery than stock).
So this is great thus far. If I were going out late or something after work then I would probably top it up, but otherwise this is the first time in awhile I haven't felt the compulsion to constantly plug in my phone when I get a chance for fear it will die on me. I also hope that this will only improve as development picks up and people release optimized ROMs/Kernels.
Can someone with good battery life compare this to what they get?
13 hours
at 64%
Android System 176mah
Android OS 156mah
Screen 1hr 15m (151mah)
Voice Calls 15m (88mah)

They did actually at their reveal, I watched
"which Google said can deliver up to 70 percent in after 15 minutes on a charger."

Overall I'm really satisfied with the battery. after a night and day of heavy use, games, browsing, installing apps I'm still at 20%. Hardly any power drained in standby.
Decent
Battery has been pretty good for me so far. Seems to be settling in with optimization after a few days. Dropped 0% overnight last night which is awesome.
GSAM Monitor is saying my average is 19 hrs on, 4.5 hours of screen on time usage, 1-2 hours of screen off usage like phone calls, music.
Hi. I am still on Marshmallow and am constantly being asked to update to Nougat. I am reading the battery performance / on screen time i snot as good in Nougat as it was on Marshmallow. Can you share your experience? One of the reasons I needed this phone was for battery life and I don't want to lose that.
I think mine might be less on Nougat than MM. But, I'm using different apps lately that seem to keep the phone awake more frequently. I'm easily still getting 4-6 hours of screen time from 4:30am to 10:30pm and going to bed with 25-50% battery. Again, it depends on how I used the phone during the day.
Yes, it seems a little worse than MM, but I know I have apps since switching to Nougat that tend to wake the phone more frequently.
I'm definitely not complaining about the battery life on this phone. I often go 40 hours without charging.
So you mean even if there is a difference it is minimal?
Also, do you have the US version?
Yes, US. The longest I went was 3 full days without a charge. Something like Monday 4:30am to Wednesday 10:00pm. Just shy of 9 hours screen time I think.
The difference between MM and Nougat was very little. Honestly, the UI is much better in Nougat than MM. (granted, it still needs work) Positive Nougat UI changes outweigh the battery life change.
Look at it this way... How much use time do you need a day? You should be able to still get 5-8 hours easily depending on usage.
I feel its the same, I've not fully measured it but I'm still getting from 3 to 4 days of battery after Nougat. I mainly use the phone for receiving calls, whatsapp, instagram and twitter, actually Twitter is the app that I use the most.
Right now I have 75% left and still tells me it has 3days of battery left, so that still a great battery duration
Well. I'm on board now too. And you all are right: no noticeable differences at the moment, although I did wipe cache and all data via recovery after update. Liking this phone.
Android 7 Battery Records
Android 7 Battery Records
First time posting. Bought two new S7 Edge phones in late November. My wife can go a day or two or three without charging, similar use with hers. I am lucky to get maybe 6 hours ever since I bought it. I don't use it for gaming, I use social media, email, news, some music, take a lot of pics of the kids, Photoshop, reading, research, etc. My phone is my laptop replacement.
I installed CPU-Z a while back because my phone is often hot. Sensor readings often exceed 150° F with battery temps exceeding 105° (with very little activity).
I've tried charging with rapid charge disabled, decreased screen brightness & resolution, shut down background processes, did malware and virus scans, factory reset, etc. No change.
I do have many apps installed on my phone and I have moved as many as possible to the 64Gb micro sd. No difference. Looking for suggestions. Is this a defective phone? Should I be looking at a replacement? My Note 4, Note II, and Thunderbolt all had much better battery performance.
Your help is appreciated.
I can get like 10-11 hours, did you check "Battery" section to see what is draining her ?
Well I can get even 12h of sot so I don't know how can you get such low battery life. Also, if it heated up to 100° Celsius the battery is not healthy anymore, you should change it
There is absolutely no way that U can get 12 hours of SOT on official rom and with average usage. Don't confuse the OP.
About the problem,
Did U try factory resetting the phone? That should be the first thing to do when the battery is draining abnormally. Also. send us pics of battery usage.
Sorry for the late reply. Apparently I turned my notifications off.
Yes, I have done a factory reset twice in the past few months. I think I'm going to backup in the next week or so and do another one and this time try installing only a minimal set of apps for a few weeks and see how it goes.
Here is a screenshot of my current battery usage. I charged the phone twice today. It's actually doing ok at the moment, usually android system uses the most juice.
Also a shot of the current temps.
Thank you all again!
Hey guys.
So I noticed everyone here and anywhere else basically, complaining about the battery life on this phone after the MIUI 11 update so I used the debloater directly after getting the phone to have the best battery life possible.
Turned off all the suggested apps and services and I gotta say battery improved, but it wasn't what was promised by the phone's specs. I'm barely getting 4h SoT, without any heavy usage whatsoever, only social stuff.
The culprit for me as well has been the Android System, with over 40% drain every day. So I installed Accubatery to try and see what's happening with my battery, along with better battery stats.
What I found useful from the accubattery app is the permanent notification where it tells you, after a few seconds, how much mA will be drained in an hour of using the phone like the way you are using it at that moment. So I did a test. Had my phone on the home screen, doing nothing. After a few seconds the reading showed -180mA, which is awesome right? Then I locked my phone and left it at the always-on display for a minute or so. Unlocked it and the notification showed -980mA.
This is very VERY weird and I cannot find anything anywhere suggesting what anyone can do to combat this. I have more average battery drain when the screen is off than when the screen is on.
I have never reset my phone (and would like that to stay that way if possible) and the phone itself is a month old. It's really saddening to see other people are getting twice as much SoT.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

I was on Miui 11 for a few weeks and had ~8h SOT with AOD enabled all the time. Now I am on Pixel Experience and I have ~7.5h SOT without AOD so I am very satisfied with the battery life.
I advise you to wait for Miui 12, which will come very soon to the Mi 9T. Then everything will probably change again with the battery life...
