Got Nexus 6P from day one and been running on project fi for a month. Saw Google offer on 5X and treated my self with white 32gb for $250. Can't wait to see how I would like the smaller screen and build.
Have had big phones for ever. Note 3, Note4, Nexus 6, and 6P. I really want to like the 5x . Planning on keeping both if I do.
I have had both since launch and I love them both. I prefer using my 5x mostly for its size and N5 nostalgia. I use both my 5x and 6p daily but my 5x is currently my daily driver.

I'm biased towards big phones. Very not sure how I will react but good to hear its competing with ur 6p
I know there is like .01% chance of this happening but I know there is a rumor Huawei will be building a 7 inch tablet. I would love if they made it like their mediapad x2 7 inch tablet with phone capability. Bezzles are really small I think 80% screen. I seriously doubt it, but I would love to see a true phone/tablet hybrid

Typing this from my 5X. Initial thoughts compared to 6P:
colors look a bit washed out but screen looks nice still.
This thing is so light it's crazy.
Feels much smaller
Feels like a toy compared to big phones I'm used to.
It feels very nice in the hand.
Looks to be smooth so far as I got all updates OTA even the one from just couple days ago.
YES I like it and most likely will keep both phones on fi. I need to use it as my daily driver for sometime to make the final judgment
I just received my 5X today and after having a 6 for about 6 months i'm very happy to be back to a smaller phone. I really liked my Galaxy nexus, nexus 4, and 5, the 6 was just too wide.. honestly it's just right for a phone for me. Can't wait to try out N next.

Been using 5x all day today. Mixed feelings and all related to size. Sometime it feels nice and sometimes it feels just too small. It will be my main driver for few more days to asses. Performance wise, it has been a champ. 6P is in hibernation right now
I'm almost in the same boat except I currently have the MXPE. I just ordered the 5x through the Project Fi promotion. I'm excited to give it and Project Fi a go. I really like the size of the MXPE for media but I do wish it was a little bit smaller at times. Can't wait!

Different strokes for different folks. haha As I mentioned I have the 6p, but I also have the iPhone 6s and the HTC M9. Out of all of them I like the size of the 5X best. The 6p feels just a little too big for me, the 6s feels a little too small, the m9 feels smaller as well. The 5x is my Goldie Locks in terms of size
OK, stop me, stop me now. My 6P been off all day, and this small sucker is taking over lol. I am really not sure I want him to take over his more mature expensive brother. Help help help!
I'm rocking the Moto Nexus 6 right now and my 5x will be here on Tuesday. I couldn't pass up the fi sale price and I am kinda looking forward to a smaller more lightweight phone to be in my pocket all day. I loved my original Nexus 5, and am hoping the camera beats the heck out of my N6.

Yes, camera IS better than N6. Same camera that is in 6p is in 5x.
I've had the 6p from the start as well, but ordered a white 32 gb 5x from B&H yesterday. Got it for $300, which I though was a damn good deal.

I was really hoping for the rumored 32GB LTE version to be announced at I/O but it seems that phone is a myth. So I'm now considering getting the current Nexus 4.
I'm curious to know if there are any ex-Galaxy Nexus owners in here and what their take on it is. Personally I love my phone for normal use. Running CM10.1 I'm able to do everything--aside from games--with smooth ease. Sadly, Subway Surfers and Iron Man are almost not worth playing on my phone and that's kind of a bummer. I'm also starting to see ghosting/burn-in in my screen, which isn't horrible but I think I'm over AMOLED. The real kicker is that my volume rocker has stopped working and it is the most inconvenient thing I've ever experienced on a modern smartphone.
So, should I upgrade?
I had the Galaxy Nexus and love the N5.
It's a worthwhile upgrade and at $349 the price can't be beat!
I say go for it! :good:

Another one chiming in.... Nexus 4 trumps GNex for me in every way. Good price as others have mentioned, and you will love the solid feeling design of the N4 compared to the plastic on the GNex. Make sure to get a back glass and front screen protector.

Now, I don't want to start a whole Nexus 4 vs. GS4 GE debate, but I do want to just point out that both phones have their pros and cons. GS4 GE has removable storage and battery, and does have better hardware. Nexus 4 costs about half as much and is still a top-of-the-line phone. Again, not trying to start a debate, but OP, if you're considering upgrading to either of these, I'd say go check the pros and cons. There's a thread you can go to made specifically for debating the N4 vs any other phone. If I find it, I'll edit this post and put it in.

I spent $600 on my Galaxy Nexus a month and a half before it went on the Play Store. I told myself I'd never spend that much on a phone (upfront) again. While I would love the S4GE, I just can't see myself dropping $650 + tax + shipping.
Thanks to everyone who replied! I'm pretty sure a Nexus 4 is in my future.

I did and am extremely happy with the decision. I had the GNex on VZW, and even got rid of my service so I could switch to the N4 on a GSM provider. Very glad I did. This phone is extremely smooth and the developer support is tremendous just like our old Gnex. Only downside compared to Gnex is lack of replaceable battery but I really havent run into an issue with this. I have an external battery backup just in case, but havent even run into a situation where I needed to use it. Plus as everyone else has noted the price simply cant be beat. There might be newer, more powerful phones on the market now (GS4, HTC1) but they would run you double to buy outright or you would have to lock in a service contract. In my opinion it just isnt worth the extra money for those, plus they lack the full nexus experience.
N4 has better screen, battery, design, quality.
And of course CPU and GPU is light years away.
After that is camera 2 gigs of ram that makes the super smooth.
So to conclude it is much better than GN.
Stop thinking about it. Buy N4 and sell the GN or keep as a spare.

I did the upgrade a few days ago and I can tell you that it's totally worth it! Even with the upcoming S4 Google version, I think N4 is still a better choice by design and functionality. (Yes, S4 is more powerful in terms of hardware but the button design has ruined everything IMO)

I agree with you. When I first came off of the amoled my Nex4 did look washed out. Once I got used to the colors on the Nex4 I realized how much more true to life they are. Now when I look at amoled it looks like a over saturated replica of colors.
The N4 makes the GNex blow IMO.

Now I understand why my wife doesn't use her iPad Mini as much and use her note a lot more. Since I got my Moto X with 5.1" screen, I barely touched my Nexus 7.
Yes screen is larger on Nexus 7 but it is slower and sluggish compare to moto x and I decided to sell it before it looses more value after Nexus 9.
Now I wonder what would be like to have Nexus 6 or Note 4.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
I dunno, it's still a pretty big jump in screen size to the Nexus 7. I don't use my N7 that much because I prefer the iPad Mini by a wide margin, but I don't see myself ever not using a tablet just because my phone has a large screen.
Yeah if I end up using tablet I grab my wife's retina iPad mini. Unless I am about to read books or a long article, I find myself sticking to my phone only

I sell mine when i bought the S3. With the Nexus 5 i was looking for some think to see films.
Tab s 8.4 was my choice, and the screen i ossome but the sistem is not good as the n7.
Nexus 6 maybe will be the final answer. But depend if you like manage a big phone(or a little tablet) all day.
I had a N7 that I ended up giving to my daughter once I got my N5 because I just wasn't using the N7. When I switched to Xfinity, they gave me an iPad mini that I barely use because of my moto X. The only thing I use the mini for is watching Netflix and the Xfinity DVR app.
I just don't see the need for two devices when these phones are so big. Maybe, if phone screen sizes were still like the original iPhone, then I could see it. But that's just my opinion and I also can see why people would need both.
not sure what is wrong with the op's nexus 7. mine is as snappy as anything else i own.
I really enjoy the N7 with Android L. I rather watch a movie on a 7" screen than the 5.2" screen. It'll last me for a while.
I guess for those who don;t mind carrying around a large phone, the Nexus 6 is going to be the ideal all in one device.
Well,
The difference to my Note 10 is still pretty big, but yes, my son now has the Nexus 7. I do see why the 7 was eliminated from the lineup when the new Nexus devices were introduced at 6 and 9. However, for the first time in a long time, the only Nexus device in our household will be used by my son. I wanted the Moto Nexus, but 6" was just too big, so went for the X.

Yeah, the N7 is definitely showing its age. It's still pretty fast, but it certainly isn't anywhere close to being as fast or as fluid as the current crop of smartphones. That said, I can't wait to get my Nexus 9, that thing is going to be a beast of a tablet. Still gonna hang on to my N7 though, I don't like to get rid of old devices if I like them.

My dream one day as well. I went through so many android tablets in hope of having a better tablet than iPad.
There are few things that I used to use nexus 7 over phone: reading kindle, reading pdf files, and reading long articles. All reading related and 5.2" are more than enough now. Who knows I might get nexus 9 as well since it has significant size difference.

That is called multiwindow. And nexus 6p has it better because it works with every app. Note 5 has better camera and feels more premium. It is a boring device that will never take full advantage of hardware because of ****ty software code that Samsung puts in it.

I wouldn't go as far to say all of that. However, it is true Samsung handicaps what can be done by the device. Hardly any useful apps can be used to multitask I just came from the note 4 and I'll tell you that I'd ditch multitasking and all of tw features in a heartbeat for this phone. Plus I don't like the way Samsung is designing their new phones. Hate the metal design time and time again plastic has been the better material, no removable back or SD port. They killed off the main reason why I would even buy a Samsung flagship over the nexus line. And this is someone who has had every note except the 5 and had the s1 and 2.
*edit
I've never felt the note 5 to be premium. I prefer the note 4 over the 5 build quality and the camera is better on the 6p.
It's just my opinion, multi-window is true multitasking. You don't necessarily have to hide one app to use the next one. That's the same thing the iPhone uses.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Well, since I just sold my Note 5 for the 6P, I guess my answer would be the 6P.
I just got it today, so my experience with the 6P is somewhat limited but here are my thoughts (I'll leave the price difference out of it, but that's obviously a huge factor as well):
The Note 5 is probably the BEST phone on the market right now, period. Features, power, design, it has everything. Everything except being a Nexus and running stock Android. This means the 6P has a noticeably smoother and, in my opinion, better UI. The Exynos CPU is undoubtedly faster. This is most noticeable when launching apps. The Note 5 will definitely beat the 6P there. That said, would you even notice if you didn't have them side by side? Probably not. The Snapdragon 810 is no slouch and nothing feels slow when you're using the phone. So to me, the Note 5 has an overall negligible edge on power when it comes to actual use. As for the multitasking capabilities mentioned above, unless you mean the split screen which usually seemed like little more than a gimmick to me, the multitasking is pretty bad on the Note 5. It has an extra GB of memory, and yet it still constantly kills apps. Hopefully Samsung tweaks that more with future updates because I feel the 6P probably has the advantage in multitasking at the moment.
The Note 5 also has a slightly better screen. They say they are the same panel, but I suspect either Huawei gets the slightly lower quality screens of the two, or Samsung still has some tricks up their sleeve to optimize their own screen, or probably a little of both. That would explain the number of screen complaints on the 6P while the panel is still relatively new to production. Again, assuming you don't get a pink screen like some, the screen still looks every bit as good for the most part. I can't imagine anyone complaining about a good 6P screen. Samsung has a brightness setting called The Face of the Sun which I don't miss forgetting to turn back to adaptive before looking at the phone in the middle of the night. I haven't really used the phone when it was really bright outside yet, so I can't say for sure if I miss the extra brightness there, but again I have no complaints about the 6P.
The camera is also better in the Note 5, but the 6P's is pretty damn good too, and if you care that much, get a real camera and stop trying to take pictures on your phone. That's pretty much the end of that discussion for me. The main reason I got the Note 5 was because Samsung finally designed a nice phone again, but again, the 6P feels equally premium. In fact, while I respected the design of the Note 5 and wanted to like it, I kind of didn't. Something about the feel of it just never felt quite right to me. I still think a glass back on a phone is stupid, just like it was when Apple did it and learned their lesson. I very much like the look and feel of the 6P, especially the Frost version that I have. The back of the Note 5 is too rounded and it makes the already slippery glass back feel like a bar of soap in your hand. Oh, and one last feature that was actually pretty important to me on the Note 5 was the wireless charging. Too bad it doesn't work half the time.
Now, onto the 6P. Like I said, the 6P has more than enough processing power, a more than good enough camera and screen (again assuming a good one), and a fantastic design and feel. Remember that sinking feeling you got when that first 6P pic leaked? It's light years better in person. I really do like the design of this phone. It reminds me of my One which was one of my favorite phones. Being that we are all here on XDA, the advantage of the 6P is that it DOESN'T have the Exynos processor. I had the Note 5 less than a month and was already getting annoyed that I would never be able to have anything but the stock software or small mods on top of it. Touchwiz was incredibly better since I last saw it, but it's still pretty ugly, in particular the notification drawer in the Note 5 really bugged me compared to stock Android. Because of all this, the smoothness of the 6P makes it feel like a faster device during normal use. You'd never know it was a little slower without having them side by side. And of course, there's always the time difference in receiving updates. Sure you'll get Marshmallow on the Note 5, and probably pretty soon. But every update after that will start getting more questionable and probably slower as other phones become their priority.
So in conclusion/tl;dr, they are both at the very top of the list of best phones on the market. The speed differences aren't something you'd ever even know most of the time without directly comparing them, and you'd be forgiven to think the 6P might even be faster. They both top the list in nearly every category. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in either phone. If you value any of the Samsung specific bits like the stylus, then the Samsung is for you. If you value the ability to modify the software on your phone and receive updates as soon as they are available, the 6P is for you. If you have either, consider yourself lucky to have one of the best phones on the market. I switched because I wanted to be able to use real ROMs and kernels, not just the tease you get with an Exynos device, and I wanted updates ASAP, even as previews. I suspect most people who are here on XDA probably value this as well, which is fairly evident by the fact that a month newer device has WAY more activity on here.
Dude I was scared to do the switch. The 6P MURDERS the note 5 (in my opinion).
Don't be scared if you're on the same boat, or at least try it and if you don't like it, just send it back.

It's just my opinion, multi-window is true multitasking. You don't necessarily have to hide one app to use the next one. That's the same thing the iPhone uses.

Edit: Apparently the device will only take a screenshot of the selected application and not both open windows. Don't have another camera.

I would like to see it or you can send me the details on how to do it. I've never seen multi-window on a Nexus device.

Is that the 6P? The pic looks uneven, how do you do it because I can't find the function even under the developer settings?

Hello everybody! So I've had my galaxy s4 since last January and I'm planning on changing it in a couple of months. My top 2 are definitely those 2 nexuses, but is 6p worth almost 200$ more ( equivalence in Polish currency )? What I'm concerned of when it comes to 5x is 2gb of RAM. Nowadays maybe it's enough, but in like 2 years time it might be too little. Screen size is not a factor that'd make me pay so much, because now I have 5'' and either 5.2 or 5,7'' will be fine for me. I don't want you to give me raw specs, because I know them. I want you to give me your opinion, considering personal experience, if possible.
Thank you in advance.
I have both, the 5x and the 6p. I like the 5x for its compactness and lcd screen. But it does lag from time to time due to the low RAM.

How's the battery life in both of them?
