samsung galaxy s5 g900w8 5.1.1 (Canadian model).
Side note; Im newb so the more detail the better Thanks
3 files needed. recovery, modded kernel and su beta. The better rom is completely subjective a lot of roms and different with both good and bad behaviors. You choose.

Also a noob with a SM-G900W8
Also am a noob, tried a few links. got stuck in bootloops.
What is a guaranteed root method so i dont have to flash stock or format again?
Same model as what he asked about.
Could u supply step by step directions please?
Either flash this with ODIN
http://download.chainfire.eu/406/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-kltecan-kltevl-smg900w8.zip
Or if that causes a bootloop,
Copy SuperSU to your Micro SDcard / Phone storage
flash TWRP with ODIN, but uncheck "Auto Reboot" first
When it finishes flashing, pull the battery to power off the phone
Replace battery
Boot immediately into recovery and flash SuperSU
Reboot to rooted Android
I already tried flashing that one and it caused bootloops or frozen at bootup.
Where can i download the TWRP that youre suggesting to flash?
And where can i find a confirmed download for SuperSU?

I already linked you to TWRP, get 3.0.0.0 .tar version, do not unzip, add it to the AP or PDA section of ODIN
Copy this SuperSU to your card or phone first
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
ok sorry. thanks!
Copy SuperSU to phone or sdcard
Open ODIN and uncheck "Auto reboot"
Add TWRP to AP or PDA
Put phone in download mode
Flash TWRP
Pull battery to power off
Replace battery
Boot immediately into recovery (Volume Up & Home & Power)
Flash SuperSU
If asked, say NO to flashing root superSU again before exit
Reboot into android
K i did those steps EXACTLY. and its in bootloop now.
Downloaded the 3.0 tar file, downloaded the 2.46 SuperSU
unchecked reboot in odin, then flashed twrp. once it finished i pulled battery. booted into recovery to twrp setup. selected install. selected supersu, installed. said complete. restarted phone. bootloop
When booting into recovery says ontop not seandroid. warranty: kernel or something like that.

Hi all,
I just finished testing the new method of rooting using new SuperSU system-less and it's working well on my P600. I don't have other device to test it on, but if you guys could test it out on your device and report back, that would be nice.
Here how to root using new SuperSU system-less app:
Prep:
1) Download Odin 3.09 http://odindownload.com/Samsung-Odin/#.Vm3AglE1I-Q
2) Download SuperSu version 2.6.2 to your SDcard here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
3) Download TWRP 2.8.7.0 tar file to your PC here https://dl.twrp.me/lt03wifiue/ (you must use Spen to navigate, touch won't work)
For P605 - Please use twrp-2.8.7.0-lt03ltexx-4.4.img.tar version here https://dl.twrp.me/lt03ltexx/
4) Download the full stock 5.1.1 firmware by download this tool to your PC from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Then use the tool to download 5.1.1 rom (very fast download). set model=sm-p600, region=XAR, put a check in "Auto" and "Decrypte automatically"
Execcution:
1) Use Odin to flash full factory rom 5.1.1 to your device with "Auto Reboot" checked. If you already using 5.1.1 with root, you can just flash over your current one. Your data will be preserved. It's not nessessary to flash the full firmware but it's easier and less confuse. Once completed your device will reboot. Now boot back to download mode.
2) Use Odin to flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 with "Auto Reboot" UNchecked. Once completed. Hold Vol up+Home+power buttons to boot to TWRP recovery(do not let your device boot up). It will take a while so just wait. You also will see a red message warning about SEdroid security..blah blah...just ignore it. If you want TWRP touch, you can flash this version zip (can't flash through ODIN) before proceed. https://s.basketbuild.com/devs/Joshndroid/TWRP/lt03wifi
3) Once in TWRP, flash the SuperSU 2.6.1 system-less. Becareful here, after hit REBOOT, If TWRP offered to root, DO NOT DO IT (You will bootloop if you miss this step). Hit on "do not install". Your device will reboot. Done!! This SuperSU will patch your kernel and install root. Once completed boot up and enjoy. Your system is now rooted with TWRP installed. Pretty nice!!
EDIT: You also need to disable "Security change" pop up by remove or use Titanium to disable "Security policy updates" and "SecurityLogAgent". I heard report that if you don't your device may bootloop later on.
@joshndroid made his own version of twrp 2.8.7 which has full touch support/recognition (not just the s-pen). Here is the link:
https://s.basketbuild.com/devs/Joshndroid/TWRP/lt03wifi Maybe could you put this version in the OP as another option instead of the official twrp?
Guys, a question. Can i use the exynos version of TWRP, ie- lt03wifiue, on my SM-P601, which is also the exynos one, but with 3G support.?
Thanks.

Good point, I didn't notice that, however we could flash the official twrp with odin, and then we could flash joshndroid's twrp from the official twrp. So could you add that to the op?

Did you install supersu from the playstore and did it ask to update binaries? I can't remember when I did mine if it asked or not. I don't have any su issues with mine.
Flash firm doj3 with odin
Reboot in bootloader
Flash twrp with odin
Reboot in twrp
Flash supersu 2.61
Reboot.
Kernel seem to be patched (red warning message), Supersu app is present with no binarie update needed.
Reboot in twrp and Flash xposed wanam mod
Result:
Titanium Backup: ok
Rebooter app: nok
Freeze after 2 mins: have to hard reboot, again and again.
So, I flash again with odin and use the old method (boot patched)

Flash a different recovery, either with twrp or odin. Why do you want to remove twrp?
Done and completed
twrp not working correctly, it did previously, but after the update, it doesn't.

I sure did, and should've been clearer. I'm running 5.1.1 XAR that I Odin'd yesterday. USB debugging is enabled, and Odin tries/fails when trying to load up to 4 versions of TWRP that I've tried. Further, I get corrupted firmware after it tries, and have to reinstall v5.1.1 (if that tells those much smarter than I anything)

Ok, so I've read until my head hurts. So please take pity on me if there is a thread that answer this question already. Please direct me if that's the case...
On to my problem.
I was running Optimal Rom 13-1 just fine minus the Samsung bluetooth glitch. But since There have been updates to that ROM since, I figured I'd update to 15-5.
I followed these instructions.
1. Download and install NI2Flasher.apk
2. Download and copy G900V_*_Stock_KERNEL_SafeStrap-Flashable.zip to sdcard.
3. Run NI2Flasher and select flash.
4. Grant root access for NI2flasher
5. After the app flashes the NI2 kernel tap the reboot button.
----This will reboot your device directly to Safestrap.
6. BACKUP YOUR CURRENT ROM!!!
7. Flash OptimalROM_*_BigBot96.zip
7. Do NOT forget to flash the G900V_*_Stock_KERNEL_SafeStrap-Flashable.zip afterwards.
----If you do forget you can always select recovery at the Safestrap splash screen.
8. Reboot system after flashing kernel
I chose the G900V_OG5_Stock_KERNEL_SafeStrap-Flashable.zip MD5: 0c1a06d1358cdfd19513043ee370dac1 file.
I am now in 15-5 Optimal ROM without Root and no ODIN access.
Phone seems glitchy which makes things worse. Play store FC's.
Cant install BusyBox. Im sure there's more.
Please assist as I am frustrated at this point.

I'm going to assume the worst case scenario.....
Your multiple firmware flash attempts may have caused some OS corruption which means that even if the phone was to miraculously boot normally, you'd find that the whole system is unstable.....
This leaves realistically one option.....
Start again from a *totally* fresh install.
To do this, it is likely that you'll need to flash the pit file for the device variant along with the firmware.......
This will totally erase and re-format the device memory partitions during the flash which will get rid of any old software (and subsequent modifications) allowing the device to function normally.

You could try going custom.......
(Follow this process EXACTLY)
1) copy SuperSU zip and your choice of custom rom to a microSD card and put it in the phone.
2) boot into download mode.
3) Odin flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 (specifically this version).
4) DO NOT allow phone to boot....uncheck Auto Reboot (remove the battery as soon as the TWRP flash has completed if necessary) then.....
5) boot directly into recovery. (Vol +, Power & Home button combination)
6) flash SuperSU zip.
7) flash custom rom and GApps
8) boot device as normal.
Note....If the phone *does* manage to reboot at #4, you'll have to re-flash TWRP and intervene to prevent re-boot.....

Is there anybody that has been able to root their at&t note 3 on android 5.0. I bought an at&t note 3 the other day and have been looking for a way to root it but have not found one yet. Please help me.
Absolutely. I just arrived at work or I would post a full detailed guide, but here's the run down.
You have to downgrade from 5.0 (OC1) to 4.2.2 (NC2).
Once you've done that, root with towelroot.apk, install SuperSU (I prefer chainfire), then install Busybox, (I prefer Stephan Erickson) and then finally, install Safestrap Recovery V3.75.
Then boot into Safestrap recovery, wipe/factory reset, and then flash the ROM you want.
I would gladly post links to everything but as I said, I'm at work. If nobody else does before I clock out. I'll definitely help you out.

Did anyone ever figure out how to root this phone yet
Read above...
Sorry guys work got the best of me. I just got permission from a couple of developers to re-do a thread that elaborates more into how to root, flash etc. So that will be up by the end of the week (hopefully). My method I will be posting is completely different than what I'm telling you here. Because my guide will let you flash an a single file using flashfire that will already have root, xposed, viper audio, + extras already installed and configured. What I'm posting below is the main method being used.
In the mean time:
Download and install Samsung Mobile Drivers http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117, Reboot before connecting your phone.
Download https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001615211 - This is a stock NC2 (Android 4.4.2) image you will flash to down grade from 5.0. (Temporarily).
Download Towelroot https://towelroot.com/tr.apk - This is towelroot, it exploits a vulnerability in android 4.4.2 that allows you to gain root without even rebooting your phone.
Download SuperSU https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip?retrieve_file=1 - You can of course user any superuser app. I am personally a big supporter of Chainfire and his applications.
Download Safestrap Safestrap-KLTEVZW-NCG-3.75-B03.apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=4718#downloads - This will be your recovery.
Download Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451 Make sure it's version 3.10.0 and only download odin from that post please. There are obnoxious amounts of fake odin downloads that come up in a google search that may contain malicious code.
Don't forget Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
Also download any ROM you want to flash, BEFORE doing this. Unless of course you want to stay on rooted 4.2.2
----
0. Backup. Back up everything.
1. Place Towelroot, SuperSU, Safestrap, and Busybox on your SD card.
2. Bring your phone into download mode. (Power Button+Volume Down+Home Button)
3. Connect your phone to your computer using usb. (Back of the computer usb is always better)
-Make sure you installed the Samsung Drivers
4. Bring up odin and place N900AUCUCNC2_Full_Odin_Tar.tar.md5 file in the AP slot. (Odin might hangup and freeze for a minute. It's normal, don't click or do anything, just wait.)
5. Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time on odin should already be checked. Just make sure.
6. Under ID:COM on odin, it should read 0:[COM4] in light-ish blue color.
7. Odins message should read <ID:0/004> Added!!
--Numbers might be different for each person.
8. Click Start and wait a while. After 15-20 minutes your phone will eventually boot into Android 4.4.2
And in this exact order:
9. Install Towelroot and click 'make it rain'
10. Install SuperSU, Be sure to disable knox when it asks. If it hangs at all just force close SuperSU and try again.
11. Install Busybox
12. Install Safestrap
Done.
When you want to flash a ROM simply place it on your SD card and flash it using Safestrap. Make sure when flashing that the ROM comes with the OC1 kernel. If it doesn't you'll need to flash it after flashing the ROM.
As I said above I'm going to be posting an entire thread this week dedicated to rooting, flashing, and working with this phone. It's going to have the most updated information that I have and an easier and quicker method that doesn't require Safestrap. I'm going to ask mods and hopefully it will get a sticky.
Thank you!! I`m going to try this tonight. I`ll let you if I can pull it off. Looking forward to your new thread too. Thanks again!!
Quick question phlashb4k, the first step in your guide ( 1. Place Towelroot, SuperSU, Safestrap, and Busybox on your SD card.), the link you posted for busybox is for the play store app. Is there a zip file for it elsewhere. I can`t download the app to my sd card.. Could I install it from the play store after I`ve downgraded from 5.0 to 4.4.2? I`ve searched this site and googled for a while and I still cant do it. Everything else is ready ready to go. Thanks in advance.
I am new to the root process and must also down grade to 4.4.2, can i re-upgrade to 5.0 after the root some how while maintaining my root?
Safestrap
Without question Safestrap is the biggest problem for me
The newer version B03 would not boot to recovery
I had to go back to B01
---------- Post added at 08:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:37 AM ----------
Upon boot it installs 262 "updates" fro AT&T
Using the rooted file from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59666958&postcount=2
Last time it sent me into a boot loop after the updates.
I did get it to run for a while.
Trying the complete stagefright fix also
Which I can't seem to find the link to right this instant.
Constantly get
Unfortunately, the process

Thought I had it fixed at one pint but it is a problem again.
this seems to help

working on it.

Yes you can install directly from the Playstore or flash a zip file. Either works just fine as long as everything is installed in the correct order you'll be good to go. Allow me a bit and I can upload the .apk directly to my google drive account and provide a link. You could really download SuperSU and Busybox from the Playstore if you wanted to. It just takes a bit longer.

Of course. After you downgrade you then have access to Safestrap, which is a custom recovery environment you use to flash ROMs with. (Almost) every ROM for our phones already have SuperSU installed, if it doesn't it will specify in the thread that you need to flash SuperSU using Safestrap. But there's only a few that require it. Most of them already include the OC1 kernel inside the ROM as well. (OC1 is the only kernel that will run 5.0 on our phones).

If the following doesn't help please explain your problem in a little more detail for me, write out each step you are doing and I will try to see which might be causing the issue.
Safestrap is very touchy and actually isn't compatible with 5.0 (OC1). To boot into Safestrap after flashing 5.0, if you want to do a backup (which I wouldn't recommend with safestrap, I've personally only had bad luck) you need to either flash the NC2 kernel with odin, or download and install http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development/nc2-flasher-app-unsafe-t2989141. I suggest downloading the .apk. All you do is flash the NC2 kernel with the flasher app and it will automatically boot you into safestrap. After you do whatever it is you need to do, (flash patches, etc) you then flash the OC1 kernel and reboot. OC1 kernel can be found here: https://mega.co.nz/#!fAcA3JhL!-hK_TU6NamIJdvgwWdZ90VmOwBdRBxSL70VgC4sILwc
To fix your Playstore issue, remove any Playstore updates you have, then download and install the latest version from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/
Well I was was able to down grade with out a hitch. If I knew it was so simple, I would have done it a long time ago. I finally was able find all the info I needed about ROMs available and how to`s but before I start flashing, I`m going to have do a lot more reading on this awesome site. Now since my note 3 is no longer in service and out of warranty, I`m assuming I don`t have to settle for a at&t rom. I`m just going to use as a little tablet with just wifi and bluetooth. That is after have used it as a guinea pig, then I`ll start on rooting my note 4. Thanks again for your help in getting me going, phlashb4k.:good:

It was like talking to Time Warner.
Reboot it.
I understand sir, just reboot it.
Something in their network failed.
So now that I'm off the roof.
The safestrap that you had a link to wouldn't run at all.
I mean it loads and looks like it works tells me that it is installed and that the recovery is installed but won't boot to recovery. That is with mine Safestrap-HLTE-3.72-kk-B01.apk
That is the same thing that happened with your version Safestrap-KLTEVZW-NCG-3.75-B03.apk
I finally unloaded everything and started over from 4.4.2 factory stock
order that I got to work was
towelroot
su
busybox pro
safestrap B03
uninstall safestrap B03
uinstall busybox and install it again
install safestrap B01
uninstall B01
restart busybox pro
install B01
And finally I got it to show up correctly and boot properly, recovery and all.
Everything installed but now........
It wants to "update again"
Every time it updates, it crashes the system and I start over.
Gonna try it one more time and then go back to rooted 4.4.2 probably if it doesn't work.
I wonder if Verizon is this bad.
It's like when I had Time Warner's all in one router modem. Crash o matic every time they "updated" something
Now with an Asus RT-68U and Motorola modem I'm fine.
Incorporated the stagefright fix I mentioned earlier and it got all but one file.
Shows good in Lookout but CCVE-2051-6602 shows up in Ziperium.
Just turned off auto mms for this second and see what AT&T screws up with their update her when it finishes.
It's been a long ugly day and has nothing to do with this but I'm tired.
Thank you very much for your post and your help.
Take Care
Could you upload a screen shot(s) of your modem and kernel version .
Verizons Note 3 doesn't have a locked bootloader. Just AT&Ts. Which is why we have to jump to get root and such

So the Verizon is easier to deal with? I just was looking at the BOUNTY for a Verizon note 4 and thought it might have been more of a pain

Hi, are my ROM choices pretty limited because the ATT phone has to run on OC1 kernel? Will most of the popular ROMs from the other Note 3 threads run on OC1?
Thanks, Mike

Supernoob question. I plan on doing this soon with my new note. However, I was wondering if the hotspot is automatically unlocked in 4.2.2. or do I need to download a special rom for that? thanks
Anybody know how to insall Xposed on Android 5.0? or have the link of the working one?
Thanks plashb4k, did this last night and it worked out great! I have a couple of questions though. (i'm completely new to this.) First, how can I disable Device Management from the phone? Now it is always in the Notification panel saying there is a new update. Secondly, are there any roms you recommend that work with android 4.4.2 really well? Thanks.
if you are like me you already realized that running odin again to install, CF-Auto-Root-herolte-heroltexx-smg930f.zip won't do anything.
1) put SuperSu zip file somewhere on your phone (https://download.chainfire.eu/964/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip)
2) you will need to reinstall twrp-3.0.2-1-herolte.img.tar via odin AP but don't auto reboot (https://dl.twrp.me/herolte/twrp-3.0.2-1-herolte.img.tar.html)
3) manual reboot and IMMEDIATELY go into recovery by holding down the magically combination. if you missed it then you will have to do step 2 again.
4) once in recovery install supersu zip from step 1 and you will get root back
should work for s7 edge (935) too but you will need to use the correct files
hope that help
nice thread, but can i flash a recovery via recovery?, because my usb port wont work :\

OP has missed one step.
You have to flash boot.img from official samsung firmware through TWRP(if you have TWRP installed) or you can install through odin. Make sure that your build number matches with firmware file. You have to do this before you are going to reinstall TWRP. After flashing boot.img file you will stuck in bootloop don't get panic. Flash supersu along with encryption disabled file attached in link. Then boot into android. You would definitely see supersu along with superuser script installed. No you have root access. Cheers

Get from sammobile.com
U can download any samsung firmware from there. You will have to just search your device name to show the relevant builds. Makes sure that your build number (on your phone settings-->About-->build number ) is same as the file you are going to install
