Notifications not showing on AOS. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Is there something I have to mess with in order to get notification icons to show properly on the AOS? I tested it with Hangouts and GMail, and there are no icons showing, though the notification LED does flash. Does it take a while to register, or did I not set something up properly?

until samsung decides otherwise, only samsung stock apps will show in always on display! namely messages, email and calls!
perhaps someone will write an xposed module sometime in the future...

Interesting. Because I had a "4 email" notification at one point, but have never had my gmail account go through the samsung mail app. I then cleared my inbox of unread emails and the notification went away. Must have been a fluke.

Gmail Notification Issue?

Hi all, copy and paste from Amon_RA's thread which I've posted in also. I'm running Amon_RA's 1.6.1 ROM and am wondering if the following happens to you as well? If it does, what ROM are you running? Is it donut-based? Thank you.
Some bugs/features in 1.6.1? I'm not too sure if it's intended to function this way in Donut, hence the bug/feature portion. I'm experiencing the following problem on 1.6.1, with email notification and vibration turned on:
Assuming I do not have any email notifications currently, and I have zero unread mail in my email. When I receive a new email (be it for one or two email at a time), my phone will vibrate and have the notification, as expected.
However, this is where things get different. If I were to ignore the notification (let it remain there) or clear the notification WITHOUT tapping on it and going into Gmail, any subsequent emails I receive will only result in having the LED blinking, and the number of unread count in the notifications bar will increase. The phone does not vibrate, neither does it ring.
If I were to tap on the notification and enter Gmail, then my phone will vibrate and notify me again. This happens regardless of whether I read the unread emails in Gmail, or let them remain unread.

Anyone?
Yup, I concur.
I just tested this. Received an email, cleared the notification. Then sent another email to myself from browser. My phone didn't vibrate and notify me, except with the green LED.
Cleared the notification by opening Gmail.
Then i re-sent the same email, notification & vibration is back again.
Wondered what's wrong, i've got a feeling that the flag is set wrongly too.
Ive posted this to Google already but have yet to receive a reply..

Dismissing Notifications

When I get app notifications for things like text messages or emails, entering the app directly and opening the corresponding message does not dismiss the notifications from the notification center. Is this normal behavior? I thought Lollipop did, but I could be mistaken. I either have to swipe the notification off, or click it to open the app to dismiss it.
I noticed the same, found it irritating and I got way to many notifications from all sorts of stuff, App's and OS. Eventually I disabled all notifications. The phone already makes a sound so i don't need any visuals.
I am getting the same issue, any fix/ workaround to get rid of the notifications?
In my case this seems to depend on the application. Whatsapp does this annoying thing, while Gmail and Inbox do not. I think that most apps are not yet updated properly for Marshmallow support.

GMail popup notification

Hey folks
I am new to android/galaxy s7 edge...coming over from an iPhone. I had a newbie question...when I get a GMail notification, the phone vibrates and I get an unread email icon in the notification bar. I can pull it down to see the actual notification.
However, the new email does not show up as a popup notification (like an SMS for example) so that I can delete, mark as read it right away without the need to pull down the notification shade. Is that something I can enable?
I hope I am explaining this correctly. Thanks for your help!
No ideas?

Download Floatify from the Play Store. Once installed go through the initial setup. Once finished with that, click the "Heads Up" button>select the first option "Which">select the first option "App Settings"
From there I unchecked all apps and only selected what I wanted. In your case, select Gmail and any other apps you want. The reason I specified an app as opposed to selecting all, is because some apps already do this and I don't want two pop ups for one notification.
Good luck.

Post-APG3 build: No notification icons whatsoever on AOD

(sorry for the typo in the headline - it's of course the 'PFG' build I'm referring to...)
If flashing the new stock firmware for my S7E, I have suddenly noticed that no notification icons (with counters) whatsoever (for missed calls, text messages, emails) are now being displayed on AOD.
This is what I know for sure:
My S7E (with the PFG firmware installed) does NOT display AOD notification icons for:
- New/unread Email messages (built-in Samsung app)
- New/unread Gmail messages
But since I haven't been using the S7E for that long, and because I'm a bit of a 'flashing addict' (flashing every new firmware as soon as it becomes available), I have to admit that I can't be 100% percent sure that this wasn't also the case with my last installed firmware build (PF3).
Nevertheless, I distinctly remember actually seeing AOD notification icons for (in the very least) missed calls and text messages in some of my earlier installed builds...
The strange thing is: My S7E is perfectly able to show notifications for new/unread Gmail messages on the Edge screen, when I do the back-and-forth swipe on the AOD screen... So why not have a similar notification icon and counter for new/unread Gmail messages on the AOD screen? This totally baffles me... ;/
Are any of you guys out there experiencing anything similar? I really hope you can help me shed some more light on this issue.
I just tested on pg3 and calls, messages and mail show up like they should. I'm pretty sure It'll go away after a clean flash. Maybe try clearing cache from recovery first.

I'm talking about notification icons on the AOD (Always On Display). And the AOD does NOT display notifications of new emails messages, neither in Gmail or the built-in (Samsung) Email app...

Love the Pro 3 but notification sounds

So far I am loving this and I'm coming from the S7. Rooted and unlocked the bootloader yesterday but for the life of me cannot get notification sounds to work. Nine mail, hangouts, and bluemail do not make a noise. So far only facebook messenger and whatsapp make a noise on incoming messages.

I can't get hangouts to even appear in my notifications unless I open the app, and then I get hit with all the texts I received that it failed to notify me for. Google Opinion Rewards never notifies me either. I did the code *#*# and disabled background clean up, and in notification manager I have hangout enabled for everything, and in battery app, and recents window I disabled clean up, with no luck. Hoping it'll get fixed soon, but in the meantime it's frustrating.

Really? Funny because my S7 hangouts would always say no network and I would have to wait a few minutes for them to refresh. I figured out the sounds. it seems like the default tones didn't exist or something so after manually changing them it's working. I still cannot believe the quality of this phone, even the camera which isn't close to my S7 really is not that bad.
I did go in to the battery section and change skype, hangouts and my work email from closed with the app cleanup the phone has
