Thank you very much for posting this!

Sweet!!! Got the s7 for $250 from Verizon and still got my unlimited data. Glad to see foxfi working

Confirmed. Foxfi working over here. Using it to tether the computer now.

If you are using the newer "Verizon plan" tethering and Hotspot are free for anyone who didn't know.

Yes, but for us Unlimited users, this is a godsend.

I wish I could've been on Verizon when they offered unlimited data.

thanks for letting us know, I've not used foxfi before. always had native tether in roms used on my s3 and s4

I got in on the unlimited plan under the wire when I bought my galaxy nexus. Been on it ever since. I can't tell you how relieved I am that Foxfi works, and without root. With Foxfi I can stream to the xbox one and access Netflix and Amazon Prime without issue. I imagine gaming would be the same.

Foxfi working on unrooted stock ATT Note 3

Hey y'all just got my note 3 today and was setting it up to my liking. So I found that on my GS3 when I unlocked the bootloader and went with custom roms, the battery life was never the same again. I know this is weird, hell I used to cook winmo 6 roms and every android I've used has had some kind of custom rom but my GS3 would burn through battery like it was it's job once it was unlocked and running custom rom. The GS3 I had that wasn't unlocked/rooted had a ok battery life and was totally fine. Hence I decided that once I got the Note 3 I wasn't going to be unlocking the bootloader on it, root sure but no custom roms. The only problem that pertained to was foxfi -> it worked without a hiccup on my cfw GS3. I can confirm however I'm using my Note 3 on ATT LTE Stock firmware etc and tethering to my laptop RIGHT NOW using the home button trick from the GS4. When the foxfi app tells you to call 611 to get hotspot, just press home and then open foxfi again, the hotspot will still be active and you can connect and monitor your usage.
I won't speak for anyone but my own experience, but for the past 2 months I haven't had home internet because I've been moving between coasts (I'm a physician for the armed forces) and I've been basically living out of extended stay hotels and my phone has been my only source of internet (I have unlimited) so I personally have been using 100-200 gb a month since my initial moving process and have received no such text or email or phone call from att. I'm currently downloading all my updated patient records (about 4gbs) and speeds are a nice and toasty ~42mbps down.
So yeah, your mileage will vary with ATT of course, but just sharing my own personal experiences.
cheers
Doesn't work for me.

I'll try it again. 1-Click tether was working fine for me on GN1 with root. If the Free doesn't work then I'll root and try that again.

You would think the opposite is true.
tried it the normal way first, wasnt working then I saw your post. tried it with the home button trick and working fine now! thanks man
Thanks! Seems to be working for me as well w/ the paid version of Fox-Fi.
So you can use this app without ATT upgrading your plan to a tethering plan? I have the unlimited data plan and last year I used a Rom with tethering and I received noticed from ATT that they were going to change my plan. So I have not tethered since, fearful of loosing my "unlimited data" service. Question is do you all have "unlimited" data plans and using FoxFi without AT&T notifying you?
Thanks.

I've had unlimited data for close to 8 years and I've never paid for tethering
For me and some others in the thread this is working a ok with out tethering plan
just remember, once you activate the wifi and it tells you to call 611 hit the home buttom instead of ok
that'll keep the connection active, hitting ok will kill it.

Thanks for the quick response. I've purchased the paid app and l look forward to using it with my laptop. Thanks again.
It didn`t work for me. Just after starting the tethering, a message appears saying "mobile data is not available or invalid SIM". After some research aroud, I decioded to go to root and try removing the Tethering Provision. Downloading Root de La Vega at this moment... I will let you know about my results after that.
Just to clarify: I am not at AT&T. Bought the N900A in the USA but managed to unlock it and now I am using the beast in my local GSM operator in Brazil (Oi).
Cheers

ahhh that's probably your issue, the tethering provision is assuredly hooked up to the ATT data apn and that'll cause issues when it calls home that specific apn only to find it not available.
yes you're gonna have to root and remove that and then try again, I'd assume if you either removed tethering provisions or edited the file to the proper values you'll have hotspot working soon enough

Try freezing first. That way you don't have to worry about reinstalling it if removing it causes problems.
Just a side note I also use Foxfi add on and run through a proxy just incase. AT&T supposedly sees nothing except that I'm going to a proxy server so I'm told...

Tethering after root!
V DidDy 210, bigmout and all
I have just rooted and everything went pretty well. Piece of cake following the walk-through in the root thread OP.
As I said above, my intention on rooting was to achieve WIFI Tethering, because my N900A is not being used on AT&T. With root, I could freeze the Tethering Provision with TB and now FoxFI was able to do its work. There is a message stating that "Unfortunatelly, setting has stopped", but you can just ignore it because FoxFI remains activated after that.
Cheers and MANY THANKS for this thread and also of couse to DesignGears who developed the root for the N900A.

Confirmed here. Rooted, froze tethering provision and when I kick on my elixer widget, there will be a few seconds where the device freezes, then it will give the "settings has stopped" error and tethering kicks on successfully. A little annoying, but I don't use tethering that often, so I can live with it.
Nice job, man. Thanks for being the guinea pig. I just picked up my Note and hour ago and the first thing I did was root it and get this working. Adblock and tether are two things I simply cannot live without.

Is it possible to use wireless hotspot without a subscription?

I have a Verizon with a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I used to use it a lot with my Samsung Galaxy S3 but a forced update broke this functionality. I would like to upgrade phones and want to know if the Moto X Style/Pure can do subscription-less wireless hotspots? If so, how?
I will venture a guess and say that FoxFi won't work on this. From my small amount of research so far, it sounds like FoxFi doesn't work on Motos. Poeple have also seemed to have bad luck with other app store tethering apps on the Motos. With that said, this being "unlocked," I don't know if the native tethering settings will work.
Either way, I'm assuming if this has an unlocked bootloader and we can root... I'm sure there will be a way around.

Thank you for answering my question. Do you know if it makes a difference if I purchase a Moto X Style vs a Pure?
My assumption is that the Style will be locked by Verizon while the Pure should not be locked? If it is the same thing, I will buy a style since I can get that subsidized with a 2 year plan if this is not the case I will purchase a Pure from a third party.
I have used foxfi in the past with moto phones. I have not needed it since loosing my unlimited data. Those phones were on pre 5.0 android. I have not kept up to see if they have updated it to work on 5.0 and later.

On the droid turbo, nothing worked.
However as long as we get root, which I think will happen. They can modify the apk not to check for hotspot provisions.

Since this is an unlocked phone, wouldn't it work just like how Nexus devices work? I assumed that since you wouldn't have any of Verizon's software it wouldn't do the tethering check.

My next phone.
Heck, I don't even need to root if that's the case.
Me too! If I can tether out of the box, I won't need to root either, though I'll probably unlock the bootloader on day 1, since that wipes the device.
I read elsewhere that it is advisable to do the initial setup over wifi, with no sim, to prevent the device from downloading and VZW software that may prompt the device to check for subscription before starting hotspot.
I know it isn't that hard to watch a tutorial and root, but with OTA's popping up, it would be nice if I didn't need to root.
According to @spotmark in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...o-x-2015-pure-edition-waiting-t3192510/page51 it's confirmed working on Verizon with Unlimited Data, no tethering subscription!!
If you're unlocked and rooted, you don't need Foxfi or any other third party app. Native Hotspot works fine
(I'm on Verizon)

Not true. I'm with Straight Talk (AT&T) and it wouldn't let me tether. There is a provisioning check. I had to root to get tethering.
Straight Talk is not ATT. It uses other carriers networks to provide service. That's not the same as having serivce directly from ATT. I have Verizon and ATT, tethering worked on both without root.
I'm on Sprint 10+ years and I root and enable native tethering on all of my phones since the Evo.Sprint has never said a word.I average 20-30 GB of data a month .
sprint limits hotspot data
Hi, have a quick question. I am on a simply everything plan at sprint for 70 bucks a month. But they check if I use the unlimited data with my hotspot. If I tether they limit the data to 3 GB a month and charge if I get over that. Is there a way to get around that?

Tethering on Grandfathered unlimited data?

Since it looks like there will not be any root, I was wondering if there is away to tether if you have old unlimited data plan? Thanks!

bypass tethering on the unlimited plan

hey everyone!
so i have the s7 edge on the att unlimited plan.
I have been using Foxfi (i did but the full version) which bypasses the usb tethering, not the hotspot tethering.
so i bypass the usb tethering to my laptop, and on the full version you can do wifi sharing. Which then i can hotspot to anything, tv, xbox, ect. so for people who are trying to look for a way to bypass that, there you go.
but my issue is when is go to do wifi sharing it now says re-enable microsoft wifi virtual mini adapter...
I have searched the internet for a few days trying anything i can do re-enable that, but nothing is working!
using toshiba on windows 10.
any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated
I have the s7 edge on Att unlimited plan also. Do you have to be rooted to use Foxfi?

To be honest I think even if we bypass the tethering restriction AT&T will begin to take notice. I had a palm pre years ago and that is what happened to me

When it happened to me AT&T sent me a statement saying if I continued to do it they would automatically upgrade me to a tethering plan.
Rooted w/ Xposed and using XTouchWiz confirmed working with new unlimited plans.

Foxfi WORKS on O ?

As the title says, i just found that FoxFi does indeed work again on Android O.. I have a Pixel XL and was messing around with FoxFi until something seemed to "click".. and next thing I know...
0 mods or roots. I'm on TMO and I'm gonna try VZW next.
Great news! I was using the build.prop hack before I switched to unlimited. To bad almost nothing else works correctly with O yet... Google voice search and Google Music are unusable.

You forgot to say unusable for some
Only issue I've ran into so far is the fingerprint sign on for the Wells Fargo app and like one other thing. Otherwise everything is working great with crazy battery life now..FYI Daydreams WORK again too..I'm referring to the ones by Kittehface for those like me who haven't been able to set one since 5.0

would you mind elaborating on what is being tricked? does this apply to only the users on the Tmo One plan or would this allow me to take advantage of the binge on through the SC plan?

You use Foxfi so you don't pay for the hotspot fee that your carrier charges you. In my case, I've been saving $20 monthly for years (that's how much Verizon charges for the feature)

ah ok, I'm not charged for creating a hotspot but my data is metered so this wouldn't work for me. Thanks for clarifying
I'm on Verizon unlimited $80 and my tethering has stopped. It won't let me tether at all and I'm on pure Nexus. IDK what's going on.
