Seems like dates in a moon-based calendar system starting at Chinese New Year (I'm not Chinese so I could be wrong...)
It's Lunar Calendar. You can google "lunar calendar" to check. (I'm in Taiwan and sometimes we use Lunar calendar to have some traditional events.)

I know that neither default calendar nor Microsoft calendar can display a list of events in agenda for the whole year or more.
The questions is is it possible to hack this? or use another third party calendar?
Another feature I miss is that the dates where events are present are NOT marked in a "year view". Say, in default HTC calendar days which contain events could be RED, days without event default black. Would be nice?

It would be very nice indeed. Until that happens, try using Manila Today Page and putting Today Agenda as the plugin for it.
is there an app that will fill the deafault calendar with all the up n coming bank holidays etc for 2011
I found that the best way to do this was to subscribe to a google calendar online, this can then update the calendar on your phone
I found a calendar on icalshare.com (I think... it was a while ago) that covers all major holidays and imported that into my google calendar. This now syncs with my Desires calendar along with my personal calendar. I've just coloured it differently so that I can tell at a glance whether it's my personal event or a national one.
Edit: Damn, I was beaten to it because I'm not allowed to post links!
Anybody has a workaround to install lunar calendar option onto non chinese set S8+?

just install google calendar in playstore and search for it there they will display it.

I did this , but it didn't work .
I have add a website calendar for Chinese calendar , it works well .
