Hi
My first Samsung device and building up my basic understanding before I do a clean install of the firmware.
I bought a Chinese refurbish Galaxy i9505.
It is currently configured as follows:
About
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: I9505ZHUFNB3
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-805641 [email protected]#1 Sat Feb 22 15:01:49 KST 2014

Current status
Running Android 4.4.2 and everything seems OK except:
NFC does not work even with correct NFC battery (made in 2016) and NFC switched on in settings
Also, can not use a MicroSD card as it will not mount even though it sees a card is inserted.
I have tried SanDisk 4GB and 32GB and have formatted them as FAT32 using SD card formatting application in Windows 7 so cluster size and etc should all be OK.
I have approx 5 other Sony phones using NFC and MicroSD cards without any problems.
Otherwise the phone seems to working OK with a New Zealand SIM which allows use of SMS and LTE data without problems (that I know of).
If I use Samsung Kies on a Windows 7 PC it says the phone can not be upgraded and 4.4.2 is the latest version.
What about Android 5.0.1????
I would like to re-install the firmware and etc using those of a New Zealand Galaxy I9505, hoping this 'fixes' the MicroSD card and NFC problems and gives me a 'known' firmware to work from.
Model: GT-I9505

Is this possible?
Can I just bullishly install the new Zealand firmware using Odin????
Or is there additional information I am not aware of that'll create problems?
Thank you for any information as I built up my knowledge on the Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505
Update
I have used Odin 3.10.6 and installed a New Zealand Android 4.4.2 firmware.
This competed successfully.
I have then upgraded to Official Samsung Android 5.0.1 successfully using Kies.
This competes this question, however the SD card and NFC are still 'broken' and I have to work on this as a separate problem.
Since it was refurbished odds are high that you may encounter problems.
Now, you can flash any firmware on your phone as long it is carrier unlocked. That's the theory at least for normal I9505. I don't know if Chinese S4 are different or not.
So far, so good. Got the firmware upgraded with NZ source and managed to get the MicroSD card going again by striping down the phone and reseating MicroSD pin/ribbon cable.
Just NFC to go.
Did you get NFC to work ever?

So here's basically everything that's happened so far :
I rooted my i9506 using this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529064
then I tried to disable softkeys via build.prop by adding the line "qemu.hw.menukeys=0" and I rebooted. It never booted, so I decided to reflash the stock ROM, and flashed a different region stock ROM than it originally shipped with, via ODIN.
Original ROM info :
Model: GT-I9506
Model name: GALAXY S4 LTE-A
Country: Czech Republic (Vodafone)
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 2210443
Build date: Fri, 03 Jan 2014 10:11:30 +0000
Product Code: VDC
PDA: I9506XXUBNA2
CSC: I9506VFGBML1
MODEM: I9506XXUBML3
What I flashed :
Model: GT-I9506
Model name: GALAXY S4 LTE-A
Country: Australia (Telstra)
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 2210443
Build date: Fri, 14 Mar 2014 07:44:41 +0000
Product Code: TEL
PDA: I9506XXUBNC1
CSC: I9506TELBNC2
MODEM: I9506XXUBNC1
And it gave me an error saying that the ext4 was invalid or something like that, so I downloaded the original ROM and flashed that.
This time, it worked. But, the problem is, I'm unable to turn on WiFi. It keeps saying "Security Notice: Your device's security has blocked an action that is not permitted, No further action is required." when I try turning it on.
It seems that its from KNOX Notification Manager. This KNOX is really getting on my nerves, it's so annoying. And I wasn't aware of the KNOX flag either, and now I don't know what to do about that either.
How do I fix this?
Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I have the same problem too!!! Anyone has the solution???? Im desperate!!
hello guys, i bought a galaxy s4 BE and i am first owner and opened seal myself, evrything is black and ahve the black back faux leather battery cover like the note 3. so the thing is it booted to regular s4 firmware without any new boot sound, wallpapers of blackedition nor the ringtones. it made an update to 4.4.2 so i left it to find also no new stuff, so i downloaded this indian black edition firmware as i cant roll back to 4.3 anymore and flashed it only to find the same stuff again, did a factory reset and cleared cache, all the same.
i used the android kitchen to extract system.img and look into it i found that it was just normal firmware from inside without and new wallpapers or ringotens
can anybody provide some help or advice please? how come the firmware that has blackedition on it and i9500Y in the CSC doesnt have the BE stuff, im really annoyed.

Hi Guys i have re-flashed my phone with the new rom of Note3 and the problem that i was facing was it got stuck by own and asometimes black screen after downloading apps on phone. i think the reason was that it has something to do with the sim. now i hav the 4g type sim the latest one it is working far better then my old no 3g supported one so. the bug is that it is related to old sim users and i m changing my sim ASAP so i can have fun for the time i was searching for roms everyday and when i reflashed the phone and used my phone with my bro new simcard it was runing far better then the last time so please give a try

After hours and hours of flashing through the various ROMs and firmwares since 4.2.2 and 4.3 on MF3, I've run in to one issue that I, and a scarce few others, have not been able to fix now matter how many combinations of flashes, modems, kernel modules, app fixes, and AGPS patches have been attempted.
The issue is that the GPS will not lock under any circumstances. All apps show no satellites in view. Google Maps will show your general location, but thats from the wifi.
The only success I've had so far is to use Hyperdrive or Gravitron on 4.3.
Personally, I think the problem is that I don't have a CSC in certain parts of the shone (See below: Firmware's CSC, CSC Country, CSC Country ISO, CSC Version all blank)
I've tried CSC changer apps and dialer codes, only to get one working, but it had no codes in the list, and no way to enter one.
Here is my phones current state:
(I been up to NC1 and just came back down to MK2 to try and get the GPS working. I intend to go to NI1 after)

I would like to thank vndnguyen for writing the app that pulled my phone info and can change CSC:
Phone INFO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609045
Without it, I would have never seen the blank values. I also think an output of this should be in every help thread. Everythings there!
I'm upgraded to NI1 now. Adding a /system/csc/ folder myself, then upgrading, fixed all my CSC issues. Still no GPS lock.

When I try to downgrade using ODIN and sammobile Firmware, the device wont launch anymore - boot loop.
I have the proper files (incl. PIT, CSC, MODEM, etc.) of the desired version officially and directly from Samsung for my region.
When I try to downgrade using ODIN and official Samsung Firmware, the device is very laggy, does not recognize my SIM Card and the Basebandversion and IMEI is 'Unknown'.
Is this possible at all? The phone is not yet rooted or altered in any way.
Thanks
