Is anybody here using any advanced car stereos with their Android phone? (i.e. Galaxy S4)
My stereo supports iPhone and lets me browse artists, etc, but it only supports USB mass storage for Android and it's extremely limited.
However, I've seen pretty neat options using AppRadio 2 (and ARLiberator for screen mirroring) and MirrorLink...
What do you guys recommend?

I use my S4 as the head unit it works well for me since it's eye level while my car stereo is far below eye level.
If I had access to a double din opening closer to eye level then I'd go with a Car-PC instead. And use the S4 only as a modem.
Otherwise the AppRadio3 from Pioneer with appliberator would be my 3rd choice.

I use the sound fly BT transmitter for my car, it supports listing song names on my radio.
Might not be what you're going for, as a transmitter I highly recommend it though

I have a Navigation Pioneer unit in my car and stream music through Bluetooth and it works great.
Pioneer AVIC D3 with BT (works great) in her car
Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS (also works great) in my car
standard Porsche BT in cayman s (has some issues staying connected)

I use a Kenwood X996. They just had a recent FW upgrade which seems to have improved BT, but now it doesn't play at the highest quality sometimes and has been skipping lately.
I'm waiting for the technology to advance a little further to guarantee a solid high quality connection wirelessly, as this is more than doable with current phone hardware. I know some units support wifi streaming, but you can't take calls via wifi.
Other than a few minor issues here and there I love the headunit. It has multiple very powerful pre-amps, HD radio built in, usb/ipod in, 3.5mm aux, connection for external microphone for BT calls, pandora, satellite radio ready, and it does display song names with the stock music app and pandora, but not through spotify(sigh). It's just a single din head unit though, would be great for a soundsystem.
It also has a decent amp if you are going to use stock speakers in your car, gives you a little extra bump, and a 12? band equalizer.
I bought it for $300 about a year ago.
My car bluetooth doesn't support a2dp so I got this..

Very good.. Even has mic so if ur car doesn't have bluetooth at all, this will be very useful

Looking for a double din that works with s4 screen mirroring....anybody have an answer?
Sent from my Xbox One
This is what you need:
Jvc NSX1 (on sale from crutchfield.com)
Full mirroring drivelink app by auron89
There are many headunits that may work but I chose this one specifically because it is what the developer of the app uses. The headunit display is ok but there is great independent switching or tandem use of various audio and video feeds. With the right apps you will beat anything else out there. One note: drivelink is a little laggy so no streaming video. If you want that then use appradio with mhl adapter for hdmi output but then you lose touchscreen headunit capability.
Please thank me for the reference because this will be the best thing you will ever do with an s4 minus the "home videos" !!!!!!!

False, using ARLiberator you get full control of your phone using touchscreen
I stand corrected (at least with appradio2) but I have not seen a fully working mod for appradio3

Hi just read your post, so do you actually have the gs4 and the jvc nsx1 working together with drivelink? If you do maybe you could give me some tips cause eveytime i plug mine in it says "This content can not be displayed while driving. Please disconnect then re-connect you smartphone cable". Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
The first thing you want to do is install the modified drivelink app by auron89 and uninstall any other drivelink previously installed. The error message seems to be related to the cable shifter wire to make sure the screen doesnt display while not in park. Just ground that wire permanently to the frame. Now you must connect the phone by following these steps in order
1) turn on phone and pass through lock screen if being used.
2) load modified drivelink app
3)plug in phone to usb coming from headunit external box
4) wait for screen to mirror phone
5) hit physical home button on phone. (Headunit will mirror home screen if you are using launcher like nova launcher OR you must select app on phone first then it will mirror)

I have AppRadio 2 with ARLiberator. It can be fussy with some ROMs and doesn't like TW launcher, but it is ABSOLUTELY worth the hassle. I have Google Music All Access, Pandora, YouTube, etc. all at my fingertips. I drive about 25k miles a year with my current job, and this makes it more tolerable. Also, I've used Garmins, TomToms, and an older Pioneer navi, but having Google Maps projected onto the screen, through the car speakers, and using a external antenna is the ultimate. I can't recommend it enough. :good:
Hey guys,
I have a question regarding android 4.3 and bluetooth streaming to a car stereo.
With cyanogenmod on my HTC One, when ever a song changes on the phone, the track is updated on the car dashboard. This never happens with the Nexus 4. Both phones are using apollo.
I'm wondering if there's a little added bonus for the HTC One that isn't implement with the Nexus 4, and if not, is there a way for me get the nexus 4 to update the information on the car dash automatically?
Does no one know?
Looks like this is why bluetooth on my car is all messed up.

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Bluetooth works perfectly. Perhaps the issue is specific to the vehicle's manufacturer?
Same here 2015 Grand Cherokee and Bluetooth, syncs, SMS notifications, calls and Music plays. No issues here.

I experience similar issues with the song info...on multiple devices, ranging from each major Android version since KitKat (I use my Evo 4G LTE from time to time). That's more of a Honda issue, honestly.

GS7 Edge was working fine though. Both on marshmallow and 7.0. Either there's something up with this phone or it's 7.1.1. My dad's iPhone 3gs works in my car fine as well.
Call choppiness on Nissan Maxima 2014.
No sound quality issues so far. Connecting to a previously paired device did not work a couple times but that has always been an issue for me on Android versions. Once I unpair and reconnect, it works.
In my car, I am connecting to an Mpow Bluetooth dongle plugged into my AUX jack and the sounds seems much better separated than my Nexus 6p when it is on Bluetooth. U11 is also clearer.
Kia Sorento SX 2013, streaming BT audio and GPS navigation flawlessly without problem.
On my Honda Prelude 2000 SE with custom Kenwood deck, HTC U11 also streams BT audio beautifully.
i have no problem what so ever, music, phone, massages, song info,email,etc... ,everything is fine

Hello
I have also these connecting problems with my Mercedes GLA and HTU 11, It will never reconnect when I start my car. I have to search always on my phone for Bluetooth devices and then connect manually. Before I had with the same car with Galaxy S8, LG G6, OnePlus 3, LG G5, Huawei P9 and all of them were working fine.
I think it's the well known Android 7.1.1 issue and hope an update will coming soon...

I was very happy to see how much better bluetooth worked for me in my car than it did with my HTC 10. It has been working perfectly. I have an aftermarket Sony car stereo.

Seat Ateca infotainment doesn't import contacts from HTC U11 via Bluetooth
I have Seat Ateca 2017 (May) and when I first connecting (paired) my old HTC One M9 (Android 7.0) with car infotainment (IT) everything (Phone) works fine, contacts were imported, details of contacts were imported too (names& fotos of contacts) etc etc.
Now I have new HTC U11 with Android 7.1.1 (Android security patch level August 1, 2017 - software number 1.27.401.5) and car infotainment can not import contacts when it is connected with HTC U11 via Bluetooth. I can use car IT for talking, dial number but can't see name of contact and messages.
Anything similar?
I have trouble getting my U11 on 7.1.1 to connect to my bluetooth work headset. Never had an issue on my HTC 10. Sometimes even turning BT off and on again won't fix it and it will be stuck forever attempting to pair with the headset. Restarting fixes it.
Seems to be working fine for me. I connect it to my Pioneer 8890BT head unit.

I found the same the u11 just works perfectly whereas the 10 had weird micro skipping/cut issues, even started using my old Nexus 7 (2013) in the car to stop it from bugging me. So happy I upgraded to the u11 even though i still have to pay for the 10 till May lol.
I have a Motorola Bluetooth adapter because my older car has no Bluetooth and I can have the phone, and only this phone within inches of each other and get the Bluetooth stutter and cut outs. No connection troubles tho.

I have an aftermarket Sony car stereo and works great with Smart connect and the Sony app. Absolutely no issues with bluetooth for me. Works great on my PC and my JBL Charge 3. I don't think it is the phone or the Android version. Unless it is Androids job to make it work perfectly with your device that you are having trouble with? I don't know, just glad I am having such a great experience. Bluetooth works much better on my U11 than it did on my HTC 10.

Did you plug in the unit yourself? I have the same android unit but for my highlander. It comes plug and play so long as everything is connected it should work. If you plug it in maybe you missed something? Trying playing music over the internet like with pandora or spotty and see If that works?

I'm not sure to be honest, as I don't play music from my phone. I have all of my music stored on the head unit, and I use PowerAmp to play it, works flawlessly with FCC.

Well, if your head unit has an SD card slot or USB port available (and most do), then the easiest way is to copy your music onto an SDcard or USB Flash drive, insert that into your head unit, and copy it onto the head unit. But I do it a little differently. I have a folder on my desktop computer at home (which is on 24/7) which contains the music I want on my head unit. As I get bored with music I delete it from this directory, and as I find new music, I copy it into the directory. On the head unit, I have an app installed called FolderSync which runs every time the head unit is turned on. When I start my car, I usually let it idle for a minute or two before I drive off (it's cantankerous when it's cold). My head unit connects to my home wifi, and syncs the music directory on the head unit with the directory on my desktop. Then when I drive off, and the head unit gets out of range of my home wifi, it switches over to the wifi hotspot on my phone for access to google maps etc.
