What's everyone's personal opinion on the device after having it for a couple of days? I'm picking one up regardless but I was just curious about the initial reviews and not just from all the hate threads about removable battery and expendable storage.
Why not read the many reviews now available online ? Reviewers from tech sites are no different to asking people here - just subjective opinions from strangers, and as you are intending to purchased one regardless ...

It's de definitely snappier when changing screens or apps. Don't know how much that is 5.1.1 or the newer hardware.
We have both the note 5 and the s6 edge plus in our house, and both of us agree the edge plus in s a nicer phone. The Note 5 just barley feels like an upgrade to the Note 4. We use cases so the glass back is pointless. Unless you have to have the stylus, go with the S6 Edge Plus, in my opinion.

I honestly haven't put much thought into the Edge+ because I do use my stylist a couple times a day. I also heard the screen is a gimmick and some reviewers say it gets old after a while, might have to check one out in the stores.
I love the battery compared to the note 4. Standby time is amazing even though i have lots of installed apps and autosync on.
I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. It's my first Note, and really my first Samsung. I technically had the S6 edge for 2 weeks, but I returned it so I could get the Note 5, and because I didn't like the way it felt in my hand.

Absolutely wonderful.
The software is amazing the most sophisticated piece of "equipment" I've very had. The keyboard fits my hands now. The battery is so amazing. I am blown away.
The camera is what I've always wanted in a phone now I have something to hopefully learn with. I am not missing anything. I actually believe I will be able to quit fiddling with things and learn with this this thing.
Note 5 here

In partial to the note since I have owned all 5! It is truly a great phone.. Awesome build, super fast, great camera, fingerprint sensor is very fast, perfect screen, and as always in an spen guy so that's awesome too.
Battery life is a good as the 4 for me and I'm a super power user.
Excellent phone imo
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
This is my first Note, but certainly not my first large Android phone. I've had dozens of Android phones going all the way back to the OG T-Mobile G1. My most recent phone was the OnePlus One which I carried for a year and was very happy with.
As for the Note... I LOVE it! The screen is truly breathtaking, even coming from the OnePlus One which had a great screen. The camera is seriously what I've been waiting for since 2008... THIS is how a phone camera should be. The fingerprint reader is pretty cool and it's the first time I've ever used a security lockscreen on a phone and been happy with it. Battery life has been on par/maybe slightly better than the OnePlus One which had 100mah more capacity.
One thing that caught me totally off guard is how many software features this phone has that I've never seen in any other Android. My last Samsung was a S3, so TouchWiz has changed a lot since those days.
With all that said, this is the first Android phone I've had in AGES with a locked bootloader and no modding community. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I didn't realize this was the case until after my order had been placed. There are some things from custom roms that I immediately miss and wish I could get back like: double tap to wake, silent volume adjustment, linked ringtone and notification volumes(I did fix this with Tasker), and some others.
Another thing I'm bummed about... the clear cover over the camera flash and pulse sensor is made of crappy plastic and mine has scratches all over it already just from wiping it off with my Tshirt. Really bummed about this. I usually keep my phones looking brand new for at least 8-10 months and this one is scratched in 3 days.
Although there's been a lot of comparison criticisms between the Note 4 and Note 5, the Note 5 exceeds the note 4. One of the complaints is the 3000mah battery. While the Note 4 does have more (3250mah), the Note 5 actually outlasts the Note 4. This is both measured AND real-time use. So, while in some cases "size matters", efficiency is what comes into play with the Note 5. I also just read that the Note 5 has the best display of ALL smartphones currently on the market. I think most negative criticisms of the Note 5 is spec based and not real-time use based. WhIle some may think Samsung focused more on hardware, they did come up with a more efficient and better functioning device with the Note 5.
I had the note 3 back then, jumped on the Apple boat, and a few more devices including the oppo find 7a. But after much thinking, I was aiming for the edge plus, but considering I like to jot down stuff instead of typing, I went ahead and chose the note 5. Besides that, the camera allows you to almost control all settings manually which is a big plus for us photographers. Also, you still get the awesome tricks with the gestures and such. The battery life to me seems average, even though it has the qhd display, it holds its ground against similar screen phones.
Charging is very quickly now compared to my other phones. The body is quite a new style, and much more pro looking.
Overall great phone, but it comes down to personal choice if you want to choose this or the edge plus. Good luck!

I sent mine back. I've had a lot of phones, and I've never sent one back. The main reasons I bought it were, in order of importance: 1) Fingerprint reader 2) Better
camera 3) Better display.
The fingerprint reader didn't work great for me. I found it just about as annoying as having to enter a pin or gesture unlock.
I have an LG G3, so I'm used to big phones, but this thing feels so heavy, and is just big enough that it doesn't fit in places where my G3 does.
The display and camera are nice, but not incredibly better (I know lots of people complain about the G3 display, but I think it's fine if you turn the brightness up).
I like the fact that the people who own one, are really liking their device. The Note 4 got a good amount of negative feedback when it was first announced but nothing like the 5. Like most cases, it's easy to point out flaws before even testing the device. On the way now to Verizon to pick mine up.
64g Black is what I'm going for. What did everyone else get?
I had the S6 edge before this phone and honestly its killing the Note 5 for me. The screen on the S6 seems more vibrant and clear than on the Note5. Also somehow the camera (which im told is the same on both phones) seems to take better low light pics with the galaxy vs the note. The differences are small and its still a great phone but i may end up back with the S6... Im gonna give it a few more days and see how i feel
Was told last Friday not to pre-order because I wouldn't receive my device until past 8/24 and was guaranteed that the Verizon stores around me would have 64g Friday morning. Turns out none around me have them... Thanks Verizon!
Been enjoying the phone a lot recently after switching from my iPhone 6 Plus and being on Apple phones ever since the iPhone 4. The only issue I have is apparently my battery life is bad because I used to get through a full day with my iPhone and would have roughly 30% left when I went to sleep. I've been finding out recently that I have to charge the Note 5 during the day in order to last as long. The system predicts my battery will be dead by 9 PM tonight which I thought was kinda short.. I'm not a super heavy user so I don't know what's causing it to die quicker than normal, nothing in power usage hints at what it is either..

Note5
153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm
G3
146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm
a difference of (+)7.1 x (+)1.5 x (-)1.3 mm from the G3. The width should feel essentially the same, 1.5mm difference is going to be close to imperceptible. 7mm extra height is enough for you to notice, but not enough to really make a difference for most people. and it's thinner so it should fit in pockets or slim places easier.
The only major difference is weight, 149g vs 171g.
I'm not sure why you seem to think the note5 is bigger because it is, but by 7.1mm at the most compared to the G3, I dont know if I believe you when you say it doesn't fit in the same places as the G3, a difference of 7mm shouldnt be enough to do that.
really struggling with the decision to get a s6 or a 6s. I know s7 is coming soon but I do not have the option to wait for that as my current phone is dead.
So, $199 for a S6 32gb or $299 for a 64gb 6s. Looking for honest opinion if this nearly year old model actually holds up to the 6S. I like android better but have been using a 5c for the last 2 years. My tablets and tv box are android. Just struggling with pulling the trigger if the 6s is that much faster. Any thoughts would be appreciated
If you are thinking about it you must go for the 6S.

I would recommend the s6 for a majority of the categories that you would decide on. It has better screen (colors, sharpness, brightness), better camera(by far!), looks sleeker in my opinion with the glass back, even though both battery life's are probably bad, the s6 might win the battery life fight, android is more customizeable especially with root and you won't have to wait a millenia for the next jailbreak, apparently the apple A9 chip is faster, but I highly doubt that you would notice the difference unless you compared the two phones in a super heavy multitasking environment. Overall I think the s6 wins, and if you only had one thing to decide on, it would be the camera. The camera on the s6 (I can't stress this enough) is absolutely gorgeous. Hope that helped!
If you want a great camera, don't need 64gb storage, and prefer the drag and drop, free nature of Android, get the S6. If you don't tinker with it, its a great phone, and definitely holds up to the 6s.
If you need 64gb and don't care for decent photo's, get the 6S.
I appreciate the feed back but a key point which I neglected to mention is that Jailbreak/root is not an option as it is a company phone with software that monitors such activity. So although I root everything I own typically, although I have not rooted my shield Tv, it would not factor in this decision.

Samsung Knox is great for storing sensitive data as long as your password is strong for it and you use a fingerprint.
In general you shouldn't need to root the S6 to enjoy it, and the 6s will work okay too.
Get the IPhone 6S 64GB, take good care if it for about 2 weeks and then sell it for a good price and get S7 for more or less the same money. This way your dilemma which phone is superior (S6 v 6S) is solved without any doubt ,as S7 will kill both of them.

appreciated but also not an option due to company phone restrictions. I do not have the ability to switch phones myself. Everything is done through a work flow.
Then I will agree with the same reasonings (S6 ) as with others especially now that Marshmallow is rolling out!
Get the 6S! The S6 is a fantastic device, but for a company phone you should get a 6S. Then you can buy an S6 or Android phone later as they'll be much cheaper when buying on your own.
Company phone means get Apple. Personal means Android, at least for me!
The 6S performance is much better than S6, but the design is plain ugly to me.
Get 6s 6s 6s
LG G4 if you want the best smartphone camera around. That's coming from someone who has directly compared the two.
You can always get the s6 and get a launcher to make it look like iOS. And you can add music with ease to the device. You can use Google docs to save files to your local storage on the phone. The s6 can do more, why limit yourself?
Simply put, S6 is overall a better device, 6S is overall a better experience.
I faced the same choice back in December 2015, sometimes I wish I had chosen the 6S.
Get the 6S. You can always sell it and get an Android phone later , if you can't stand the iOS difficulties (there are many).

Too many second hand iphones on the market so dont buy one of those as you will loose money from the second you open the box . As for the s6 and edge both phones are way cheaper now and are good phones . But go for the 64 gb + models as that gives you more room for the future

if its a company phone i would take the 6s. private i would take the s6!
thanks for the replies. I ultimately ordered the S6. Being cheap was probably my main motivation, spending an extra $100 for the 6s was too steep for me for a phone that is not truly heads and shoulders above the S6 and I guess some would debate if it is better at all. My company phone is my only phone so it is a duel purpose personal and work phone. Work purposes I need to check emails, make calls, and uses salesforce. I am sure the S6 will accommodate.
so pissed though, was holding out for the S7 then this weekend I killed my current phone. I can not function without a phone in my profession so my hand was forced
6s!! You'd have to root your S6 to get nearly as good phone as your 6s! You won't regret it.
Just interested to know if Samsung have convinced enough iOS users to switch to Android with this phone.
.
Not yet but I am switching back to Android after owning the iPhone 6+ and 6S+. I've been using iOS since last June and I am already missing Android too much not to switch back. Just trying to decide whether or not it will be the GS7.
I did, thank god.

I have been using a iphone 6 plus for the last year. It was a good enough phone I guess. I really missed the customization of android. I have only had my s7 edge for about 4 hours. I can say it kicks butt all over the iphone 6 plus so far. its nice to be back with android and samsung.

IPhone, 6S touch screen is still better. The s7 is too sensitive. Also for some reason in clash of clans the resolution is downscaled.
I switched from a 6s plus. Prior to that I had a 6 plus. All before was mainly Android except for a few false starts with iOS. Loving it so far.

I just changed from a 6+ had it for a year. Started off from original iPhone and stuck with them up to iPhone 4, but then it was all the same crap. Got fed up of having to jailbreak every phone just to be able to do what you can with a standard android. Then went through a few androids until apple launched the 6+. the big screen drew me in and all I can say is that its STILL the same crap I left years ago. Couldn't wait for the S7 edge to come out so I could dump the iPhone!
I've been using the iphone since 4s. I recently switched from my 6splus to 7edge. I like the edge, but really miss the wifi calling on the iphone. I'm with ATT and hope they make wifi calling available for the edge. I don't get decent service at my house and need the wifi calling. I have a microcell, but it doesn't always work. I may have to go back to the 6s plus. I do love the edge screen and size.
From Tattoo>Captivate>One X>Nexus 5>iPhone 6+>S7E. The S7 edge is an upgrade but I'm quite fond of how the iPhone has minimal crapware and just works. I've probably grown soft in my old age though.
I'm using this side by side with my 6S plus, last galaxy I used was the note edge before that I used the galaxy 5. From my experience first Galaxy I've used that I would call a worthy iPhone Rival. Loving the S7 edge, runs silky smooth like my 6S, haven't had any hiccups or problems. Runs amazing, I don't think I would pick it over my phone but too use both its great. What really holds me to my iPhone is iCloud and iMessage.
After years of android, figured I would try apple... got 6s+ on launch day in september.... what a joke, I couldn't wait for the S7.... it was a nice phone but it lacked a lot of little stupid chit that should be in place
That and couldn't handle the macrumor forum people.... Its like a star wars cult
I did, but it's not because I think one is insanely better than the other - I've had literally tons of phones over the past few years, and I just like to switch back and forth every little while. I got my S7E on Next, and I'll just buy the next iPhone outright, so then I'll have the best of both worlds all the time.

To be honest the android system doesn't feel that different to when I last had an android phone. Few more options to use but it's not too hard to pick up.
I'm experimenting with this transition, yeah. Coming from an iPhone 6s Plus to the S7 Edge. Mixed feelings so far, but I'm chronicling the experience in more detail on my blog.
We only got our Canadian pre-orders on Friday so it's still early, but some initial thoughts:
- Samsung nailed it on physical design and size, feels really excellent in the hand
- The screen lives up to the hype, minus a faulty pixel that I have to replace this unit because of
- TouchWiz has come a long way since I last used it (Galaxy S4), as has Android
- The iPhone is smoother and faster at a lot of things (processing photos, navigating the UI, opening certain apps, etc. This is to be expected because of the longer animations and lower resolution, but that's not really meaningful in a daily use context
- I experienced a hard crash while performing a simple Google search on the stock browser, which didn't make a good first impression but might be because this unit is wonky (faulty pixel and all). Had to soft reset to bring it back to life
- So far the camera is a really mixed bag...thank goodness I can shoot RAW because the stock JPG processing is surprisingly awful. Shame since the camera hardware is so promising.
- Battery life doesn't look like it's going to hold a candle to my iPhone, but it'll definitely get me through a day of heavy use, which I suppose is reasonable
Anyway, that's just a scattered set of first impressions.
Getting my S7 edge tomorrow, from an i6+. Been using an iPhone since iPhone 4s, prior to that was Note 2. I can't seem to remember but having to wait for a jailbreak just to change themes, keyboards and install an adblocker seemed to be getting on my nerves as of late, with the jailbreak for the latest iOS version taking so long to get released.
I have been an Apple user for many years (i.e iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro), but I abandoned Osx by the amount of work needed to jailbreak for example, while Android Os is such open, extensible, and interoperable.

I love my 6P.... Love the updates and all the custom ROMs, love the front facing speakers too.....But have wanted an "Edge" ever since they were first released.
Today, while at work, someone seen my 6P and asked me a few questions and then said he had a 1 month old 32gb S7 edge he'd trade me straight across for my 6P??? I told him I'd have to think it over and let him know later..... So, what's everyone think?
Reasons I'd keep the 6P
* Custom ROMs galore!! One of the best supported phones are NEXUS phones
* Future proof for updates for several years
* Front facing speakers
>>> I'm a HUGE music lover and check out music equipment (I'm a guitar player) on YouTube quite often
>>> On those days when you just want to lay in bed, the front speakers are great for watching NetFlix without having to cup your hand around the bottom of the phone just to hear it
* I already gave away most of my micro-USB cables and replaced them with USB-C cables - EVERYWHERE
Reasons I'd switch (are the same reasons I love it):
* Custom ROMs -
>>> I get too tied up in the whole custom ROM thing and sometimes spend several hours a day flashing custom ROMs.
>>> I am checking XDA 2-6 times per hour for updates or new ROMs, to the point it affects my work some days (when new ROMs come out while I'm at work). I've tried to control it and block XDA, but I am really addicted to it and have thought about going back to a flip phone sometimes just to free up several hours a day and keep me working when I'm supposed to be.
* Front facing speakers -
>>> Lets face it, the speakers aren't that great (compared to the HTC stereo speakers). Sitting on my desk, 3 feet away I really can't hear any stereo separation and might as well have a single speaker
>>> They really don't sound as good as many single speaker phones
* I wouldn't mind having a smaller, lighter phone....I've got tendinitis from years of playing guitar and the heavy phone sometimes hurts to use for long periods... But after a case it'll be about the same.
Take it. If you like it, ok, if not, you can sell it for more than a brand new 64gb 6p. You can come home for free.
personally I would keep my 6p. The Edge is kind of gimmicky. the 6p is pure Android it's what I love about it. I love the larger screen, it's kinda hard to go back to a smaller screen after the 6p. can't stand the Samsung bloatware and the delay updates. I love everything about the 6p the only thing I don't like is the button positioning. I keep accidentally hitting the volume button.

I just traded my S7 for the 6P. Can't beat the buttery smoothness and customizations. Believe me, S7 is still laggy even with the reviews praising the touch wiz. I took a downgrade in the camera department, S7 really does have an awesome camera. But the itch to have pure Android and butter smoothness wins hands down.

Yeah, after reading so many reviews... The S7 does seem like the clear winner, but I'm not sure I can live with the crappy single speaker?? And most say the speed/smoothness is better on the 6P, but it's just apples vs oranges on most of it.
I really wouldn't use Touchwiz, I'd use Nova launcher, but I guess I'd sill have the Touchwiz menu's and pull-down.
I know some say "get the S7 and sell it", but I only have one phone and can't really do that.. So I'd be stuck with it unless I got another local deal.
I had an s7 edge for about 2 weeks before I got the 6p. The edge was nice, however I prefer the 6p. Stock android is better than touchwiz. Has the edge been rooted yet? It had not been when I had it. I did not like not being able to block ads in chrome. I returned mine to AT&T and lost out on getting a free TV with it. I also lost out on a $150 bill credit because I returned it. I don't regret it. Keep the 6p!
You're gonna miss the speakers and the stock Android experience.
The edge is dumb. Its gimicky and has almost no useful use. I had the Galaxy S6 edge.
And most of all the edge is hard as FU*K to hold.
I had a choice of buying either the S7 Edge or Nexus 6P just a couple of weeks ago, one of the main reasons for getting the 6P over the S7 Edge was updates, Android N will be out end of Summer the S7 Edge will not see it until sometime early next year.

no offence meant, xda is for helping each other out, if you can't add anything important, then please dont post replies. there are many users back here who are ready to help the op out.
This is my first Nexus device. I love the smoothness and appreciate the fast updates. I don't think you can go wrong with either phone, more so if you change phones often. But if I were asked I would say hands down stay with the Nexus. These days I have learnt to appreciate the faster updates, especially the security updates. Samsung is notoriously slow with the updates. And you're on AT&T too? Updates are a foreign word to you (trust me, I had the AT&T Note5). But it comes down to what your priorities are.
I gave up on Sammy after my MDK S4 (the last of the unlockable Galaxies). Screw that Knox BS.
I was also thinking about selling my 6P for the edge, but I'm on Verizon and who knows when I would see android N there. Furthermore, my phone would be locked down to VZW and I don't like that, their bloatware, etc. The only thing that the S7 edge has on its side is a better camera, better battery life (maybe), and gaming performance (I don't play hardcore games), better screen (but smaller), nicer build quality (maybe?). After that, it goes downhill fast. Only 32GB? And you can only use 20GB of internal because of the TouchWiz hog. You can add a SD card, but can't transfer bloatware apps. I think I'm juts going to keep my 6P 128GB and wait for android N.
I came from the s7 edge to nexus 6p and i love this damn phone i will never get a samsung phone again and as for memory got the 128 one.
Personally, I would go for the S7 Edge. I've had both phones and while the 6P is smoother (not faster), the S7 Edge just offers more overall. Better build quality, better camera (imo), wireless charging built in, water resistance and much more software features built in without having to root or install a bunch of extra apps.
Sure you won't get software updates nearly as fast, but I'm starting to realize that those are somewhat overrated after having both. The couple 6P updates while I had that phone did more harm than good. I lost LTE frequently on AT&T which was a known issue with those couple of updates. With the super fast updates, we are almost like beta testers for Google.
While that's fun and exciting for a while, I'm at a point in my life and career where I need a stable phone with thoroughly tested software. As crazy as that sounds with all the complaints I've made about slow updates on AT&T in the past lol.
Another tidbit is that I've already received 3 software updates on my AT&T S7 Edge since I've had it. They have definitely gotten better about it so far. With Google now offering incentives to carriers, I hope the trend continues!
But at the end of the day the choice is yours. Like someone else said before, make the trade and then sell the S7 Edge for more than you can get another 6P for if you are unsure. And if having a transition device is an issue, just grab a cheap under $50 phone from Craigslist or something. I always have a cheap BLU phone on deck for transitions lol.
Good luck!
I actually have both and yes the 6p is a little smoother but the battery on my s7 edge lasts quite a bit longer. I go back to my 6p just for a day or so and use the edge for weeks at a time. I cant seem to make myself use the 6p for more then a day. The screen and the camera are unreal. also the 6p shows massive amounts of finger prints and the edge does not
Biggest reason never to buy Samdung is KNOX.
Nuff said.
Hi Guys,
Because of perfect camera I think to switch back to Samsung from iPhone 6. My concern is that will be 4GB Ram enough for new Android versions ? Or should I wait for Galaxy S8. Regarding to rumours S8 will have 6GB ram and it is more focused on VR maybe this is the reason it requires that much RAM? And does S7 gets slower by time which does not happen on iPhone.
Thanks.
With each day you are not using the S7, you are missing the great S7 camera. And no, the S7 does not get slower with time, unlike the iPhone who gets slower and slower with each iOS major version update. By the way, the iPhone 6 battery lasts half the time with the newest iOS update...
I heard the the S9 will have 10gb ram.. you should wait for that... LOLOLOL j/k
You can alway root it and flash a slimmer rom to get more fluid performace.. Im on stock rom and its fine.. the only issue I see is sometimes the Edge panel lags a bit...
But careful, if you root, you will loose your warranty...
Or wait for a 16gb ram.

That's simply not true, I just came off of trying out an iPhone 6 plus for over a year, and not one of those things is true, the phone was excellent on battery life (better than my S7 edge that I just got) and there was never lag or slowness doing anything on that phone. No I don't really have any with the S7 edge either but I can notice a difference in fluidity. I've been off Android for a year and a half and it seems that even with loaded specs like the S7 edge has, it still has issues managing apps and memory properly, overall I'm not disappointed at all but people really need to stop lying about the iPhone or vice versa, I've done both sides now and what you said isn't true in the slightest

Well, I have an iPhone 5s and upgraded it to iOS 10 and now it runs worse than the lowest end Android Chinese phone. Also the battery lasts around 5-6 hours down from 8-9 (battery life was a joke anyway since I got it). This is simply a fact, I have no interest in lying, I am just pissed off that I got the phone on contract last Christmas and it is now almost a brick.

Okay, you're complaining about a phone that is now 3 generations behind? You're probably lucky the 5s even got iOS 10, that phone is now 3 years old and of course would have battery issues now regardless of updates, if you would have said at least the iPhone 6 I would have agreed but the 5s? Time for a newer phone in that regard
Fanboys are really annoying..

If you want a 'perfect' camera I suggest you stick to iPhone 6s+ at least.
S7e front camera is really a big joke with all that air brushing (even if you turn off beautify mode).
The only issue I have with iPhones in general is the stake looking design. S7e is sexy a f..

Are you aware that iPhone 5s was sold by Apple until March 21, 2016 ? Do you think that people that bought the phone around that date have the right to at least a year of updates that doesn't halve their phone performance and battery life, or not ?

Doesn't matter really, if you're buying an already 3 year old phone you can't really expect things to work out right, I'm not running out and buying a Galaxy S5 which you can still easily get because it won't be getting any major updates, it's not my or apples problem if people are buying old tech, Apple I think only guarantees updates on your phone for 2 years, after that you're probably lucky
