I wore the Gear VR for 110 minutes, and not one overheating warning. I got suspicious and thought maybe they just got rid of the overheating warning, but for the whole 110 minutes everything played smooth. I would also occasionally feel the back on the phone, it felt warm, but not nowhere as hot as I experienced on the S6 Edge. I wanted to keep at it until I see that overheating warning, but I was getting tired.
On the S6 Edge, when you get the overheating warning, about 5-10 minutes later everything starts to stutter and lag. Almost no stutter or lag on the S7 Edge.
Also on the S7 Edge, everything ran much faster. Loading times on the S7 Edge were very quick compared to the S6 Edge.
S6 Edge .... anywhere from 20 - 35 minutes before the you get the overheating warning. Stutter/lag shortly after.
S7 Edge .... 110 minutes and no overheating message or any stutter/lag.
Battery ... I started at 82%, and after 110 minutes, ended up with 46% left.
Anyone else use their Gear VR with the S7 Edge?
Yeah, the 820 is running great.
Yeah, the water cooling is a very under-mentioned feature on this phone. I'm willing to bet Samsung added that just for the Gear VR. Either that, or just in case the 820 had heat issues like the 810 did.
Do you notice the phone is hot during basically any task? On a call? Got pretty warm.. watching a video? warm updating apps ? burning

When I was first setting it up. I did get a pop up message that "Download Booster will be temporary disabled for heat reasons" (not word for word message). But I was restoring, fast charging, transferring files, and etc. Never got that message again, nor any other heat messages. Nor did I feel any real heat from the back. So I'll excuse things that happen during initial setup.
It seems like using the S7 edge while fast charging at the same time, gets it the warmest, but that feels nowhere towards getting overheated.
Yeah I got that message for download booster too initially.... I am coming from my iphone (had the S6 but it melted always) my iphone just doesnt seem to get hot (or maybe the case makes me not notice) where as I didn't expect now on day 2 for this thing to still get hot like during a call... glad it wasn't on my face
From my experience with the Note 4 it really depends on what you're doing. I watched a 2 hour movie no problem. But if you switch between different apps like games to video streaming then the cooling message pops up.

You are right about that. The more I switched from app to app, the quicker my S6 Edge would heat up.
On the S7 Edge, I tried damn near everything that was free. Games like Dreadhalls Demo, Cosmos Warfare, Temple Run VR, Shooting Showdown and etc. Tried all the video viewers like the default viewers, Netflix, Milk VR, and etc.. Tried Jurassic World, Relay Cars, Marvel Avengers and all the free apps listed under concepts. You get the point.
I basically tried to get the overheating message on purpose. But failed.

It's a little different than just a heat pipe. It does contain a liquid within to increase the efficiency of the heat transfer.

Sure there's some liquid in it, it heats up and turns into a gas and then cools and back into a liquid, but to say that's water cooling is a bit over the top. Every aftermarket heatsink uses heatpipes but no one says "i watercool my pc with this thermalright heatsink".
Teardowns reveal no liquid (distilled water, coolant, etc.) in the pipe, it's just a plain copper heatsink. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZU9U72OU5s&t=4m25s)

IF there were actual liquid in the chamber the copper strands would help draw the liquid to the cool end of the metal pipe and recondense it. Because it's not actually liquid or vapor cooling they just act as an extension of the copper piping.

I haven't tried any demanding games so far unless Real Racing 3 is considered demanding. All the games I tired didn't run the phone hot.
4K recording ..... I can't tell, cause I tried most 4K recording in cool weather. But even at room temperature, I haven't noticed any heating.
I would love to hear an in depth review of the S7 Edge with the consumer Gear VR. I currently have Note 4 and had the innovator edition last year but sold it on after a few months. I've the S7 Edge on pre-order and was excited about getting the consumer version bundled with it. I was in a Samsung store today and tried the consumer version they had on display with an S6 attached and I was left a little underwhelmed. It's going back almost a year since I had the Note 4 innovator and despite my delight at being able to wear my glasses with the new version the FOV certainly seemed reduced and I could detect the edge on the periphery. But it was nothing major though, especially as I'm essentially getting it free of charge.
What I would really like to know though is there much of a trade off with the S7 Edge. I was so torn between getting the standard S7 or the Edge and decided to go with the Edge for the larger screen/battery but if it is significantly inferior to the standard S7 I can change my order. I was reading that John Cormack mentioned on Twitter that the standard S7 would be sharper with less FOV but that the Edge would also possibly bleed light and make it uncomfortable. He later apparently retracted the statement and stated he was thinking of the S6 and not the S7 however other forums don't take him at his word and believe the retraction may have been to do with bolstering the S7 sales. Personally I would rather just hear an honest review from someone that has it in their hands, I've been scouring Youtube and Google but all I ever find are mind numbing unboxing videos and no testing commentary.
If anyone on here has it I would be so grateful for an opinion.

No light bleed that i noticed on the S7 edge.
And the light bleed on the S6 edge was extremely minor, that most would have not noticed unless they were looking for issues.
This is of course with the cover off. I haven't even used the cover yet.
Thats good news and thanks for the reply. Other than the better battery life and performance do you still have a similar fov with the edge, is the screen door effect any different than when you had the S6?

Looking for a new phone, upgrading from Samsung GS6. Upgrading cause my S6 won't last much longer as I have been unlucky with keeping it in my hands (so will buy a case for this) and I get 110£ discount from my carrier.
But as I never owned a "Edge" phone i'm curious how it feels. Is it fine holding in the hands? Don't you touch the Edges all the time?
So what the some of the advantages of the Edge and the normal and which would you buy and why?

I totally agree with RickyW! Bigger screen and battery are worth it.
If you can afford the edge version then go for it. It is definitely the premium of the two.
As for handling, you don't really notice the edges after a while. I also own the S6 Edge+ and the edges are slightly sharp, it doesn't bother me. The S7 is smoother, it's a bit like holding a slippery pebble but it feels weighted and premium. Some people have said they accidentally touch the screen with their palms, but I don't have any issues there.
No phone will suit everyone but Samsung have done a great job with the S7 Edge.

Just a FEW millimeters larger than the S7, but has a 20% larger battery (which results in 20% longer battery live). And the Edges - never thought, i would say that - feel quite nice.
I went with the S7 Edge for a few reasons.
1. Bigger screen.
2. Bigger battery.
3. I never had an edge phone before.
Sometimes I touch the edge accidentally with my palm but it doesn't happen often. I can still get a good grip on the phone when I hold it in my left hand and type, scroll, click, etc. with my right hand.
I previously had an S6, which I chose over the S6 edge at the time, my reasons was I thought the edge was a gimmick. This time round I went for the S7 edge, my main reason was for battery life, I'm not fond of the edge tbh I would much prefer the S7+ (Everything the S7 edge is minus the edges).
I find that when I'm using the phone one handed I accidentally press things with the palm of my hand, left or right handed it happens quite frequently...hopefully I get used to the edges because the phone is pretty dam fine! ?
I REALLY want to get the edge but I can't justify a nonremovable battery. Once I first experienced being able to swap out and in 30 seconds, have 100% again, no charging, not a single plug even into a power bank, I could never go back.
Was the waterproofing that important? Really, how many scuba divers need to check their email?
get Exynos 8890 models for better battery life.

I'm a little nitpicky, but can someone check their galaxy s7 quickly for these 2 things? I wanted to know if I got a bad built phone.
1) I'm coming from a Galaxy Note5, the home button is extremely solid, if you touch/tap it, it doesn't move even a single nanometer, on the Galaxy S7 edge, if I slightly touch/ tap it/ moving finger slightly up and down, it wobbling around a little tiny bit, like a cheap loose keyboard button.
2) The sim card slot after it is inserted, it sunken below the metal frame a little bit, unlike on the note5 in which the outer metal part of sim tray is seamlessly align with the metal frame.
These are not deal breaker or anything, I just want certain things to be perfect, they just bother me a little bit.
Some other things I don't like about Galaxy S7 edge compared to Note5:
When running certain games (for example, Simcity builtit large cities), it is EXTREMELY laggy, like 5 frames per second (I have the crapdragon 820 since I live in US) whereas it is very smooth on my Note5. I read some other posts and I'm sure this problem is due to crappy Samsung gaming service/game launcher feature which they'll probably fix it in like 10 years. Otherwise the phone run smoothly, no lag everywhere else.
Again, when playing some heavy game, the phone does get a lot warmer compared to the Note5, and this phone is supposed to have some kind of mini liquid cooling system.
One other very nitpicking thing, the LED indicator on the Note5, if you look closely, have a high quality built to it, compared to the S7 which look exactly like the Galaxy S3 LED indicator, only smaller.
After all, I'm very happy with my Galaxy S7 edge, look good, a little bit smoother experience (except games), have a much better standby battery life (only drain 3-4% overnight compared to 10-15% on Note5).

Only the sim tray same as yours but it doesn't bother me.
My home key/finger print sensor doesn't wobble, the SIM card it's like youve described above.
Mine doesn't wobble, the sim card tray it can do what your saying but I just choose not to depress it before it gets sunken, I think it's like that for waterproof properties like a spishy seal

My friend got a S7 edge which using S820 (G9350), he claim that he feel laggy when gaming as well, and it seems that the problem should cause by Samsung firmware as 8890 model haven't this issue

Hey OP I just found out this app today and I've started to use it on my s7edge. It's called easy home for Samsung on the play store. What this app does is instead of actually clicking down on the home bottom u can just double tap on it and it 'll return u back to le home screen. Hope dis helps /cheers.
Sim card slot sits perfectly, but the FP-Button is little bit wobbling (0.01mm or so).

Did you get it from a reputable retailer, or from a private party? There's some fake ones going around, but I have no idea about their numbers, locations, etc. SlashGear just had an article on this.

SIM tray no problem. Though my first unit had a bent SIM tray from factory. Manufacturing error. My home button wiggles maybe 0,1mm on left side only IF I apply force up & down. Not bu just tapping it. Had not noticed this at all before so it's a non issue.
I have internet Australian version and don't have any of them problems my sim card try sits products

After a few serious issues occurring with my Note 4, i just finished a claim with Assurion and after some back and forth, they offered me the V20 at my request. They couldnt guarantee that it would be brand new or refurbished but it still came with a 1 year warranty.
Im surprised that Assurion stepped up and gave me the phone i wanted. Friggin AT&T just wanted to sell me a new Next 24 or 30 month plan for more than i was paying a month for my note 4. So for $112 deductible Assurion is sending me the V20 and ill continue paying off my old Next 28 plan for the remaining 10 months.
Dam note 4 kept shutting off at 35% battery level ever since the Marshmallow update, screen burn in from extended GPS use, GPS not getting a fix intermittently and the screen separating from one side of the phone (looks heat related to me, as the phone would get pretty dam hot when sitting in the cradle on my dash).
Had the phone for a little over a year and all was fine until the Marshmallow update, then within the last month or so, i noticed these other issues.
Im hoping that i wont miss the S pen much. Only used it to write on pictures once in a great while and hopefully a wireless charging cover will become available.
Any other Note 4 users who made the switch, happy with your V20?
I had a note 4 before my s7 and now have a v20 and honestly the v20 is awesome. much better than both. much faster. no touchwiz lag which idc what people say, is very present on the Verizon s7. either way, it's a really fast phone with a great camera. you'll like it.

Thanks i was reading another thread where someone was complaining about using it in landscape mode while driving and having part of the screen cut off. Have you seen this and are you able to see the dialer when using the phone in landscape mode?
I still have my rooted and tmobile activated n4 and runs strong.
I got v20 and can't live without root. Rooted yesterday, got few apps and runs really fast. Still havent activated yet.
I wish we have good debloaded deodex ROM and working xposed.
It's a tottaly different phone than n4. I have to used to power button at the back. Also one thing buther me I can use kodi in multiwindow view (kodi on the top and browser at the buttom) to fully utilize my screen. Other than that is awesome phone.

I switched from the Note 4 to the V20. I really really like the V20. The second screen is my favorite thing.
The LCD is fine except the backlight night time use slightly annoys me. However if I am in a room with some external light then the LCD backlight isn't noticeable.

I made a GPS fix in the galaxy note 4 thread. The pins arent making good contact anymore or are oxidized too much. I'm keeping the note 4 for s pen and the camera, when handy. Prefer note4 pics in auto mode for micro detail at work.
I had a Note Edge which I loved. I especially liked the rounded Edge display with lots of apps and notifications on it. Also liked jotting notes with the stylus. I had the Note 7 briefly and didn't like the aspect ratio of it. Felt too tall and skinny to me. I'm very happy with the V20. The 2nd screen on top pretty much does what the rounded Edge display did. The only thing I miss from the Note Edge is the stylus.
I switched from the Note 7. Actually I like the V20 better than the Note 7. Hard to believe but true. It's an awesome phone that will do everything a Note will and more
1. Battery life is incredibly bad
-The battery life drains from 100% to 10% just in 8-10hrs. No gaming or no heavy duty in the background.
-The brightness level has set at 50% or under, and the SOT was never more than 30 minutes
2. The power button is too weak
-It was broken after a few days of out of the box.
-During that time, sometimes it works, but sometimes not
-After few months of use, it was great. It was competely dead.
**I did a research that a big number of G5 user has reported this is a common issue. Thanks to LG
3.The USB port is flimsy
-The fast charging function won't work probaly anymore after a few months of normal use.
-It keeps popping up an annoying power supply notification on the bar while there was nothing doing with the port.
**It's another common issue, but seems this case is not as serious as the power button one.
4.The texture of the phone is really hard to tell me that the phone was made out of matal
-Yes, I know there is something called coating, but that feeling is so horrible, just like other plastic phones, so why didn't they just make a plastic phone like G3,G4 instead of this one?
5. Image retention makes the screen like a crap
-2K QHD IPS LCD, all these labels just meant to give the good impression to the consumer. Well, once they found out how creepy is the watermark produced on the screen by leaving the screen on the same image just a little while, they could regret to buy a phone that should have an astounding quality of screen, which actually worse than the predecessor, G3.
6.The edges of the body just like a blade
-I know this state is too exaggerated, but I have already ran out of words to describe that bloody cheap feeling.
7.It's easy to get throttled
When everytime I restart the phone, texting message, watching youtube videos, surfing internet, I just like holding a warmer. Thanks to LG for giving me a free warmer.
Anyway, after the G3, G4 boot looping trash and this crap, I will never buy a single LG phone again.
I have been using my H850 for one year now and don't have any of the issues you describe: Yes, the build quality of Samsung and Sony is ahead of LG, but it still works like on the first day and still has good battery runtime. No ghosting at all, nothing.
You got a bad phone, simply get it replaced.
Regarding the "coated metal", I couldn't care less: For me a phone is a tool, not a status symbol and surely not a piece of jewelry. If you see things differently, buy something like a SGS8 or HTC U11. It's not that you cannot recognize this when buying the phone.
No 2017 highend phone I'm aware of has SD card support, a replacable battery and an unlockable bootloader. So I'll use my G5 until it falls apart.

Same here ... judging by your username I'm guessing you also got the "1. FC Köln" version :angel: :laugh:
But I agree - I don't have ANY of the issues you mentioned @cuepudding, and I've also had my H850 for a year now.
The only thing that is making me regret that I ever got it is the lack of custom rom support. We don't have many choices and the ones that are around either don't update often or have/will stop being maintained.
The phone itself and the quality are great though :good:

Actually, I do live in Cologne :laugh: But I have the regular H850, though.
So far, the only issues I've had with my H860 are that the metal is quite soft (my phone fell from like 15cm into a wooden table and the side now has a dent) and also the camera glass, which is really REALLY scratched on both sides (and I keep my phone in my pocket 97% of the time).

I have used LG optimus G , LG optimus 3D ,LG G2 and now LG G5 never had any quality issues. I think what you got is duplicate of LG G5 . The only part i regret in LG G5 is battery life other than that its a beautiful phone with super fast performance, I moved back to android from Iphone 6.
I'm not that satisfied with G5 either! Already had to send it in due to broken GPS. Also having the screen retention, but they denied changing display. Then battery life isn't that great, although I know it depends on my various things. Last but not least having big trouble using WLAN and BT at same time, but I'm not sure if it's more related to Android 7.0 than LG G5. All in all other phones of mine performed quite better at their times...
I also am happy with my LG G5, only fault i have is battery life but I carry a spare and just change when it gets too low, otherwise the phone does everthing a phone should. If i wantvto play games i use my PC or XBone S.

I have mine for a year. GPS broke few times, image retention (I use Blue Light Filter to fix it so it's a non issue for me now) and the camera glass got so many scratches I had to replace it. Oddly enough, the 2.5$ glass I got from China holds much better than the original glass!! No scratches.
But... The 2 main reasons I keep this phone:
1. The camera(s) is outstanding. And the camera software is by far the best in the market.
2. Removable battery. I always carry a spare battery in my bag. Never worried about battery life.
I don't like that the screen isn't flat but I can live with it.
