My Wi-Fi keep on and off dunno what is wrong and I check my connection is good
I'm getting this odd behaviour plague me recently, WiFi decides to sleep at random moments, even though it's always on during sleep. It is driving me nuts. No other devices have this problem. My Nexus 5 seems to have a better Wi-FI connection.

Anyone else having this problem? I don't remember having this happen on my MT3G.
It's really eating up the battery.
I am on JI2, and I never experienced this until last night after using Odin.
you have to change the wifi sleep policy in the wifi settings. Got to settings, wireless networks, wifi, then press the menu button and select advanced.
OMG! thanks, you're a real life saver.
Sorry to bring up an old thread. I have it set to never sleep but it still does. Any ideas? Seems when the display times out, it switches off wifi.
I have wifi on all the time at home and it's set to never sleep. Sometimes I see both the wifi and 3G icons. I know my wifi signal is strong, so no idea why the phone sometimes also seems to need a 3G data connection. One example is when I test GPS at home the 3G icon will pop up briefly. Another is following a reboot. But I see other times as well, and sometimes it stays for quite a while, but eventually goes away. I wonder if perhaps some ports get blocked by my router and the phone uses 3G communication to get around it. Bit of a mystery, but I don't see any other negative symptoms.
Here is something I have experienced. This is regardless of what ROM I am on.. Stock, Bionix, whatever...
I have wifi turned on at work. Sometimes I would see wifi and 3g on at the same time.
Now today, while texting, I noticed that my Wifi connection dropped to nothing, and at that point my 3g kicked in, which I expect it to. But when my Wifi reception kicks back up again, my 3g didnt turn off. I turned off Wifi and turned it on again, and my 3g turned off.
Anyone else getting the same experience?
samnada/ELStiko, That's what I'm really seeing too as I thought my wifi was just going to sleep.

I'm pretty sure my wifi isn't going to sleep. The wifi icon is on all the time with at least 3 bars. My cell signal is definitely weaker in my location. So, if it's seeking the strongest signal my wifi will always win.
Besides the possibility that my router is blocking some ports the phone wants to use, there's also a possible security issue. I know at one point the TMO My Account app would force a switch to cell communication versus wifi and I believe it was due to security concerns. Maybe some apps do the same thing.
I just did a GPS test, got a lock, stopped the test, closed the app, and the 3G icon stayed up for a couple of minutes then went away. Just one example.
Does seem odd, but I've just assumed there's some rational explanation. Could also be a bug...
your lucky you wake up and you have 3g. i wake up my phone is always on edge. lol

Has anyone been having any issues when connecting to wifi since updating to the recent OTA for the Desire HD?
It seems sporadic, because sometimes i will have full signal and then it will cut out even when i am right next to my router. And other times it just doesnt show any signal, and says connected and other little things like this. I am just wondering if anyone else has suffered from this problem or anything like it?
My device is working perfectly fine after the update.

What I've noticed is that my Wifi doesn't seem to turn off. I've got it set to sleep after 15mins, but it doesn't seem to be after the OTA. need to do a bit more investigation to see for sure though.

@OP - I am experiencing very minor Signal loss in Wifi after the update. it goes down by a Bar....But No disconnection or degraded Wifi Performance
After the OTA i have wifi problems all of a sudden too.
I think it has something to do with the wifi sleep thing or something.
When i turn on the screen after some..hour(s)
Wifi says it is at 100% strength, but when i open a page it says cannot be found.
I have to restart wifi to get internet working again.
haven't done a factory reset, dunno if that will help anything?
Everything perfect.
very good battery life (maybe double)
smoothness
photos +
video excellent
as good wifi as before
maybe this sms problem, but I don't receive sms so can't talk about

I am experiencing this issue too running the 1.72 OTA.
I have the wifi sleep policy set to "after 15 mins". Wifi works fine in general. However sometimes, when I wake the phone after a while, it shows a full wifi signal but no data transmits. As above, wifi has to be restarted to get it running again.
I had the same. After the update the Wifi connection randomly was lost and sometimes I had to close the HD and restart.
However, a few days ago I did a factory reset and now my HD seems to be behaving like never before. No battery issues and my wifi always is fine.
I have the sleep policy set to never yet my WiFi at work keeps reconnecting every time i power it back on. My Evo4G has the same settings and doesn't drop the signal.
Ideas?
I'm having the exact same problem!
When I let my tablet sleep, after turning the screen on, the status bar says I'm connected to WiFi, but the bars are grey, not blue. Browsing the web works and YouTube as well, but apps like Talk keep saying I'm offline. After waiting a minute, it signs me in.
I have it set to never disconnecting WiFi, I'm not sure why it's doing this.
Same problem here. I returned my first Galaxy Tab 10.1 because of this. Sadly my replacement does the same thing.
I'm wondering how common this is or if returning it again would just be a waste of time.
It's particularly annoying because I like to stream after a while when the display is off, the streaming stops (wifi apparently dropping).
Seems like it is always one dang problem after another with each Honeycomb tablet I've had. *sigh*
Am I to assume by lack of response that almost nobody else has this issue? Just curious because it seems odd I'd have this problem with two tablets. And trying to decide if I should return and try a third time. Hate to keep returning them though if it's just a normal glitch with this tablet.
Same problem here, but only on my EAP network at work. On my home network (WPA2 personal), it works great.

I have this issue too, I seem to be connected but bars are grey. I tap the wifi, which takes me to settings and once I tap on my my access point which already shows connected, it lights back up and the bars change back to blue. Mainly an annoyance for now.
I had this same problem, the only way I found that is consistent is using Bluetooth.
Anyone know of a good way to reproduce the problem on demand? It happens often. So I was going to return the tablet to Fry's Electronics. But now they've gotten super anal and won't even let me exchange unless I can duplicate the issue in store.
But it seems to happen at random times when the screen has been asleep for a while.
And I probably will do my best to avoid shopping at Fry's in the future as well.
Happens to me too. It definatly is annoying. Hopefully they can send out a fix when they release the touchwiz ui.

It's not like I get disconnected from the net, although I see the grey bars, I can still surf the web and junk, but some apps log me out like I mentioned before. It used to happen all the time, now i only happens at times.
To see what I'm talking about, let it sleep for like an hour or two, and then launch Google Talk. It says you're offline, wait a bit and it logs you in again
Okay, that must be what is happening to me. I notice the grey bars all the time and a bit of lag once I pick up the tab and try to connect to some network resource. What I've discovered is that if you connect to a remember wifi spot (home) then let the device sleep and then move to another remember wifi spot (work) it just disconnects and waits for you to unlock the device before it even tries to reconnect.
It's driving me crazy, I take it from home to work and us to use it to keep me updated on emails but now if I forget to unlock it it won't scan the remembered wifi network that I'm now on, it just stays dormant until I unlock it which means no email notices or anything pop up.
There's got to be a setting or something to say always scan for networks, I have "never" checked but that does nothing in my opinion.
For a while now (around a month) I've noticed my HTC 10 disconnecting from my wifi for a couple seconds, seemingly randomly. I tried a new router about a week ago, but it just started doing it again.
I have settings like "Auto-Switch to mobile network" off, and "Keep wifi on during sleep" set to always. I'm on the Stock rom, rooted but not s-off. Is anyone else having this issue, or know of any way to fix it?
Haven't had this issue on my 10. I was worried before I decided to get the 10 about reports that this was happening to people. I had this issue on my EVO LTE. I am convinced it was a hardware issue on that phone.
T-Mobile S8
It happened last night 3 times. The only way I would know is the pop-up when you successfully connect to a WiFi network.
Installed the update and went to bed.
Using the phone for about an hour this morning and suddenly a page wouldn't load--turns out WiFi had dropped, and as soon as I noticed it reconnected again.
Anyone else experiencing this? The only reason I switched phones in the first place is because my Nexus 6p started dropping LTE and GPS for a few seconds randomly...
Really hope my phone isn't defective because I won the lottery on everything else (Sony camera sensors, no major tint on the display--some, but not very significant).
????????
This seems to be a related thread with a lot more discussion than is going on in the actual Q&A. They suggest that it's a known problem for more than a year and on other Samsung devices, affecting the 5Ghz wifi band, and as a solution it is recommended to disable "smart network switch" as well as disabling via location settings the option for bluetooth scanning even when bluetooth isn't enabled.
Sucks that you have to break multiple features to fix one longstanding bug. ?
