I am replacing my broken Note 4 with the S7 Edge.
I was looking for some active pens to somehow be able still to write and I stumbled upon this article.
Is this Android M feature supported by the S7?
Could this be added if it's not present?
Am so excited
Preordered the S7 but still on the edge weather to get a Note 5 instead
Could anyone please test it?
Would be awesome
There are even pressure sensitive Bluetooth pens out there.
Bumping. Important Android 6 feature
Could be handy to know coming from note 4 would ease the transition

After S6 Edge announcement and watching videos I am too much confused between Note 4, Note 4 Edge and S6 Edge.
What i like about Note 4 is 5.7" Screen and clearity of camera, Multitasking While in note Edge i like the Edge features so I was confused in between this two devices but after S6 Edge announcement i am going crazy as i am not able to decide which should i buy. I like the S6 Edge features like People Edge Contacts, Dual Edge, It's look and Notification animation it's very cool but it also have some demerits like Non removable Battery, Non Expandable Memory, No proper usage of Dual Edge Screen because of small 5.1 inch screen. So plz help me to decide which one to nuy. If you were in my position then what you would have buy ???.
I want to buy anyone from the above devices so i can start making My Previously made Black Metallic Theme for my New Device...

Poll have been added which will help me to decide
I'd wait for the Note 5 release. That way you'll get the new s6 features as well as the big display with the curve on the edges.
For this moment note4 with Exynos. May be note 5 at the end of the year. Note edge and s6 edge are very dificult to protect.
Get the note 4. Really cannot go wrong with this phone even now, with the sterling battery life and that screen. Lollipop will show up eventually and it will only enhance the note. Sure enough s6 looks good, but its a first generation product where i am concerned and a bit of a hail mary. It's the first time they have gone all in with their own processors and lack of expansible storage and removable batteries, eschewing that for a wonderful design.
The note 4 has both of the above, sterling build quality, the current best screen on the market ( i got both the nexus 6 and 6 plus and believe me only iphone even comes close in fidelty), all around great shooter and wonderful battery life.
As much as i admire the s6, i think its one product to sit out until they get it better next year. Golden rule... never buy a first gen product.

If you must absolutely get a samsung device, get the S6 edge.
There is currently little-to-no support for the Note4
How do you define support? I'm never going to catch up with all the threads in this forum for the T-Mobile one alone, much less Note 4 in general. There's certainly development happening.
----
I was going between the Note 4 and Note Edge and while I was realllllllly hoping the Edge would come down a bit in price, it's clear that T-Mobile has a high opinion of its flagship and isn't coming down any time soon. I sprung for the Note 4.
I hadn't even heard of the S6 or S6 Edge until after the 4 had arrived at my door. Now that I have, I see they don't have an S-pen.
It's not my whole existence but I do send enough text from my phone that I really do benefit from a thick, heavy, slide-out keyboard. I'm not one to carry a bluetooth KB around either, so I really wanted a phone with an integral hardware KB. Nobody makes a decent one any more: the MyTouch 4G Slide was better specced than the current LG slider they offer, and coming off of that phone, I wasn't about to pay for the LG and get worse hardware, and none of the other carriers offered attractive options.
I can write about as fast as I was able to type on a phone keyboard, so I decided the next best option was a pen. The Note 3 would have been more affordable, but still more than double what we paid for my MyTouch 4G Slide, so considering the cost, I decided to go all in and get the better hardware of the Note 4. Again, wanted the Edge, but the additional nearly-$150-or-so was a major turn-off for nearly identical hardware.
Aside from stock twitch-whiz interface and bloatware apps, I'm pleased with it and the handwriting recognition does pretty well for me.
I hate Samsung devices, though. Mainly because of twitch-whiz, to be fair.
Hi,
I can't make up my mind about buying the note 5 or edge+, i wanted the edge+ design with the s-pen but samsung tried to reach a larger audience and as you know it wasn't an option. Do anyone know a way to get the the s-pen features on the edge+?

It will probably only happen with root if anything.
One feature I worried that the edge plus wouldn't have was a native way to annotate screenshots such as with the note line. I was really happy to learn that when you edit an image, there is a draw function at the ready!
Hi guys, I'm looking for input on my next phone. I've read through the edge vs note 4 threads but most are almost a year old so I'm looking for some updated info. I posted the same question in the Edge forum but would like some input from the other side, as well.
I currently have an S4 and have narrowed down my options to the Edge and Note 4. I like the idea of having the edge screen but wondering if it's actually useful. I don't do anything crazy with my S4...It's rooted and I really like xposed and wanam. I haven't done ROMs or anything like that.
What should I know about or take into account when evaluating the two phone options?
Also, while not specifically a comparison question since I think the feature is identical between the two phones but I've read lots of complaints about the fingerprint reader. Is it bad? Are there ways to make it work better/more accurately?
I am on Sprint.
Thanks!
just go for the regular note 4, the side screen isnt' anything special, but it's much more expensive
At swappa, the price difference is about $50-80. That's not enough to be a deciding factor for me as long as the functionality of the side screen is beneficial.
Well, I have always disliked threads about opinions but so it is... I have been a note user for 4 years, but my wife has just broken her note 2 Lte (one of my previous notes) and I have just given her my still fairly recent note 4 (15 months old).
So I have just moved to a S7 Edge, since note 5 in not available in Italy with my phone carrier and the S7 Edge actually costed me only 139 Euros plus 5 Euro per month for 30 months.
I will not speak about its technical features, since it's obviously newer than my note 4 and it must be better in that area: I was interested in comparing the spen features with their counterpart 'fingers only' sported by the S7 Edge and I have found that they are not so bad.
So, let me make a comparison and share your opinions. Consider that I post this thread here mainly because I suppose that most of you like the spen features so as I do and that's why I am interested in your opinions and feedback.
So. let's go:
- spen air view and air scroll - missing but, to be true, that's a feature I don't need that much. The S4 used to support that features through fingers and they were removed later on;
- Snote: downloadable through galaxy apps and pretty usable.... It synced with my old notes flawlessly;
- screenshot: palm swipe, home and power button and also google now on tap... No problem for simple screenshots. You can even make a scroll screen capture and crop the image with two little buttons placed on the bottom of the page! I just miss the ability to crop the image with the spen "by hand" that is not square or rectangular only. So the features are there in the s7 edge too let's say 85%
- scrapbook; it's there too, just downloadable through galaxy apps and pretty usable as well!
- aircommand: it's missing but well, screen write is replaced by "screenshot and then edit" and by the features I have just spoken about;
- screen off memo: missing and I miss it myself. It can be replaced by the one made by Xperiacle, but it can't by triggered in any way when screen is off;
- action memo: one of the most poorly designed features by Samsung in my opinion. I have never been able to jot down an entire e-mail address in such a small screen, but that's missing, if any of you actually misses it (much more usable on a tablet);
- handwriting recognition in keyboard: missing, but can be replaced by google handwriting keyboard which is not that bad. Anyway, I don't use that feature so much.
So, I still miss the spen and sometimes I look for it with my hands when I want to browse a webpage or click some little area of the screen, but most spen features do have their counterpart 'fingers only'.
Well, I feel that the note days might be gone, at least for a mass market, and note series could be confined into an even smaller niche even for power users and for people who use their phone mainly for work purposes so as I do.
I expect someone will say:"Hey bro, but the note has a wacom digitizer!". Well, it's true, but do you actually use the spen for professional painting and exploit its sensitivity to different pressure levels? With such a small screen and such a short spen? I don't, but that's my experience.
So, if I had never owned a note before, I would say the s7 Edge is perfect, but I actually owned some note phones so.....
Any flame is welcome, on condition that it does not infringe xda rules
I think one of the main reasons why people bought their Note's in the first place, was the screen size. The second being the S-Pen.
Now that (some) phones are getting bigger, they don't really need to buy a Note, unless they want to use the pen.
For me, the advantage of the new Note over the S7 Edge, would be USB Type C and whatever the increase in battery would be.
I can live without the S-Pen and I've no interest in phone cameras. I use a proper camera.
The advantage of the S8 Edge over the new Note, for me, would be BT 5. The disadvantages might be the removal of the headphone jack.
Thanks, so spen is not something you can't give up.
The other improvements you mentioned could be obviously applied to any kind of phone.
Nevertheless, when Apple developed their first big iPhone, people said it was just a bigger iPhone and not a real phablet, while I feel the Ui of the s7 edge does make it a real phablet.
Is it possible? To use phones with no spens to use spen features? Like a button just to activate that spen menu with gif maker.. etc etc
You would need to adapt and port a Galaxy Note Rom to the S7 edge, if it could be done anyway.. as there is an extra layer of hardware sensors built into the NOTE screen, such as Radial Menu activation when SPen is removed.. also pushing the button on the spen itself.. activates and interacts with the phone.. the S7 doesnt have these sensors
Why would you want to do that anyway ... you can pick up a Note 5 or even a Note 4 or a Note edge pre-owned really cheaply now that the S8 is here...
Hello!! So i just used the s8 roms here. And I found the note features on the edge panels and more.
Yes because Samsung coded them into the S7 rom to make the edge more useful and less gimmicky.. but you still cant use the SPen, because SS want to sell the NOTE 8 when it arrives.. if they coded the SPen into the S7, there wouldnt be much point in buying a Note 8... but like I mentioned above the S7 doesnt have the touchscreen layer to use the actual Pen..
Just buy a NOTE 5 or wait for the Note 8
