Can someone explain me what the Balong Bug is?
What does it do, and does it limit the phone functions in any way?
Balong Bug is when you update your P8lite, and it gets restricted to some operator company, means it is not an international version, it is locked to some operator network...
Hi, I am not sure, but i think you got balong bug, when you flash dual sim firmware on single sim(or opposite), or you just changing international version of software .
If you want to flash dual sim firmware on single sim, you unlock your bootloader and do this:
fastboot flash system SYSTEM.img
fastboot flash cust CUST.img
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
and you get balong bug.
First you need to change "vendor".. i think.
and then flash system, cust, recovery and boot.img
So, You first must find firmware which have folder "CUSTOM" and inside that folder is "UPDATE.APP"(about 20kb file size).
copy that "UPDATE.APP" (from "CUSTOM" folder!!) to your sdcard\dload\UPDATE.APP
restart phone, maybe factory reset. and apply update.
and then flash system, cust, recovery and boot.img
that is how i remove "balong bug".

So what is the easiest way to check if my phone is under the influence of this balong bug?
Just check the Settings - About phone section. If your build number contains the word "Balong", then you've got it too.
Hovewer, the phone does not lose any functionality for daily use.
In theory, you should not be able to get any OTA update(at least not flash it), nor update the phone with the integrated Update software, only via the fastboot flash method.
The ways of removing this bug has been already said above.
Depends...Google can't identify your phone (or it thinks you have a Huawei Honor 4x, check it here) and the Play Store doesn't show all P8Lite compatible apps (especially games). Also, the bug (sometimes) resets your theme into something ugly that looks like it came from 2009.
But it's just a wrong information trouble. Make a real full wipe and format all partition with twrp and you never see it again
I find this article and follow the instrument and done it balong bug goes away and now my rom is smoother and faster than earlier

Same phone here, mla-l03, fido Quebec, I'm also looking for the original firmware... after wiping the data partition (to be able to access it in twrp and backup all the other partitions) I'm stuck in huawei e-recovery (twrp is still working).
I may try to flash another ROM, but I'm not sure what to try flashing... can't find anything for my device. I backed up all my partitions (except data).
Haven't formatted my data yet as im waiting for the decryption to come, maybe, well... so far i haven't anyways. Lol
But i messed up things somehow and it wouldn't boot either. So I Unzipped the 1.6 gig version of Nougat (there's one out now for
MLA-L03C654B300D001 for Fido/Rogers as well as C578 which is what I've been using as it works perfect and with full "ok Google" support from any screen) and put it in the dload directory on my SD and rebooted with all three buttons and it reinstalled everything for me and fixed it all up. So far I've yet to find another full version of our OS besides in the Nougat updates. All others seem to be ota update not full version in firmware finder. Themes I had to download and add into the hwtheme directory my self.
hi...could you please share the dload link please ?...i may give it a go...and have the darn theme working again hahaha
cheers

Do you want to back to emui 4? The only way possible to do this is through bluesmoothie backup. The full firmware won't be possible to be applied because nougat has different system partition size, so it will result in error when trying to fastboot flash it the original system.img
---------- Post added at 04:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 PM ----------
Oh, just one thing.
It seems it is impossible to have a unencrypted phone with nougat. So don't format data partition, because it will be impossible to boot the phone.
Until xelfmade and others find out how to make twrp work with the encryption, we will not be able to access data partition through twrp in nougat. In marshmallow it is possible, though
Ok thanks...lets say ill stay on the nougat i have now but want the theme manager to wor again....what should i do ?
I have absolutely nothing to complain about nougat (for now hehe)...its just the themes and theme manager thats not working
thanks again
my phone never got rooted or bootloader unlocked...ive upgraded with Firmware finder with a supposed version for OUR mla...and my taughts are that its a disguised firmware cuz now,on my phone it says MLA-L03 but with NRD90M test keys....
or if i could flash with a nougat one that everything in it works....see what i mean
I think that theme manager is broken for now, because we are in beta, not a official release. It would explain the naming too
Ahh...that could be a possibility...lets wait for a while and see what will happend... thanks

First time I had to extract the recovery, boot , and system images from the Nougat release I'm using, thank god not ota, and flash em with fastboot then reboot and then a factory reset in stock recovery got it working. Everytime after that I left the rom files in my dload folder so if it went sideways I could just 3 button reboot and reload back to full stock and start over again with unlocking bootloader then root after first boot.
Please respond to the fist post...nobody gave me a good answer and the post switched subject...

still the same problem...phone runs 95% perfect EXEPT for the darn THEME MANAGER that is STILL not working...
When i flashed the firmware, again the HWTheme folder was empty...so,dloaded genuine emui5 themes from emui's website and,the theme manager wont load them .
if this thing, the THEME MANAGER could be fixed ,or a patch well... maybe i would change my mind about reverting to marshmallow/emui 4.1
For now,to have a decent theme with some good options to play with.i'm using ADW Launcher

I've run both versions you are speaking of and I'm currently in C654300 also on a MLA-L03, theme manger is in fact working there are just no themes installed beyond what it loads with as it's a mildly debloated beta firmware, also no Vendor apps preloaded kinda deal. If you click on customize you can still make the theme editor work. I have downloaded a bunch of themes and placed them in the hwthemes folder and they show up and can be used and customized n the theme manager fine.
The ndkeys build number is simply because it's a beta version.. It's not the wrong version just not a final release.
As of yet I haven't found a full version of 6.0 for our variant or a roll back app for going backwards and most have allot of issues trying so wouldn't advise it. Even restoring a nandroid backup is not possible on 7.0 as data encryption is not available to grab a full backup, the data partitions don't work that are out there on 7.0/Emui 5. Hope that helps.
Hi, I decided to download a stock oem, because I don't find the stock firmware of my phone, and after flash in it, the bootloader unlock message became red. I don't know why the color changed but a message in red don't sounds good. If someone know about that, please explain me how to do to fix it.
EDIT: When I flashed a system i had sparse error but now I have command not allowed, why ?

If you completely lock bootloader and install stock rom and recovery, the message will go away.
Command not allowed means that the bootloader is not completely unlocked. Check your settings -> developer options -> enable OEM unlocking. If this is off, turn it on and commands will work
Ty for those informations, but I have a problem, I flash another system and now I haven't acess to developer settings (when i click on it, I return at the home page). Can I enable OEM with an application or even an erase of system?

This will also remove the red warning probably
if you flashed something else you don't need to enable the setting, it will always stay enabled after the first time enabling it
I tried to flash many system firmware of p9 lite but just one worked (in this version they show me in the build number NRD90m), so I flashed a oeminfo and wanted to install the same version of the oeminfo but the forced update didn't worked, I think that my sd card is too slow (class 4). If someone have a solution for fixing this problem it would be great. Thanks for the help guys.
Flashed A2017U b35 Nougat 7.1.1 on a2017 Chinese , USB to PC Hangs (should Restart to work)
Most Important is 2 Sim Showing No Service and when trying to Make A call Saying (Turn Off Airplane Mode to Make A Call)
Despite it Closed , SIM CARD Working on Other Device !!!
Not 100% sure, but it could have something to do with having the wrong radios on the US firmware.
Sidenote, where did you get the B35 update, would you mind sharing it?

It's official Nougat, literally nothing special
I think someone will upload the U files in some time anyways
Right, but what is special is that OTA is the only way it was put out. ZTE never made it available for download from the support page from what I understand so no one seems to actually have the usable firmware available to download in the way others have copies of the official firmware from ZTE support page. Plus since he has the Chinese model it means he probably didn't get it OTA and has a flash able file that he could share.

i think you are mistaken since some guys have reported successfully doing it ...
in any event if you can't downgrade using dns try downloading the complete OTA package and try doing it in erecovery on your phone ..
failing that you might as well try every method you can find that is related to "restoring" your device using the old OTA package ..
however since this is the only downgrade option AFAIK you are SOT if you can't make it work but you are probably just committing an error or have a bad internet connection etc etc and however painful it's in your own interest to keep trying ..there is just no one button press solution for you ..
i saw somewhere one of the things you can pay dc unlocker for is downgrading but tbh i don't know if it works or not so can't advocate it ...
sorry to hear about your bad luck but if you can't make the above work .....you post a solution if and when you find it to help other guys ...

you can try to download the full OTA update package with firmware finder ...then put the update.zip on internal sd card in folder dload ...boot into erecovery and try to apply the zip ....worth a go..
read & try all these methods

I've been aware that firmwares from Firmware Finder don't work in order to downgrade. You need a full firmware, look for it at https://androidhost.ru/ be sure to search your MODEL and CUST, the lowest build number available. Then extract DLOAD folder and put it in your external SD card, inside this folder you should see update_sd.zip and then another folder with your model and cust which is named update_full_sd... or something. After that go to dialer, type in #*#*2846579#*#* then software upgrade - sdcard upgrade (this wipes data so make a backup). In the end you'll end up with an older firmware so you can use DC Unlocker. I did it in that way and I was able to use the unlock service.

Is there "huawei identity" part on your rom? Is software OTA update available?
Can confirm this works but i had to do using my pc as a wifi hotspot and setting the dns using speedify proxy due my router not having the options to change the dns. Use TEAM MT Firmware finder pc version and follow the instructions then open hisuite and it will downgrade for you, i was then able to unlock my bootloader with dc unlocker and root with magisk.
I took the telephone to a shop for firmware repair. He tried for a couple of days and he also couldn’t get back to official software.

I can guarantee that its possible even with a locked bootloader aslong as the you are placing a signed firmware onto it.
The method needed is quite a pain, the only way i got it working is by making my pc into a wireless hotspot and altering the DNS from there then in firmware finder you need to register the firmware to you imei/ip then you can either try with huisuite or through recovery to click to check for updates and instead of it asking the official servers it ask or checks the firmware finders dns server which then confirms there is an update
