Alright, so I've been trying to do this all day to no avail.
Google Research, XDA, all old info about S4s and some other stuff...
I know it can be done, because legitimate sources say they can Unlock them for Domestic Use.

Enable USB Debug:
To enable USB Debugging on the device. Here’s how.
1. If you haven’t enabled the option already, go to “Apps” > “Settings” > “About phone” and tap “Build number” repeatedly until it says “You are now a developer“
2. You will now have an option under “Apps” > “Settings” called “Developer options” where you can enable or disable the “USB debugging” option.

I know this guy is legit, I do most of my GSM Unlocks through him.
This means this device can be domestically unlocked without a third party PCB, or "Unlocker" box.
Straight ADB and a USB Cable, and some good old Fashioned Know How.
Does anyone know how? PM me Maybe?
Damn easy just download gt tools and click on sim uicc unlock ... done ..!!

Of Course, I've already tried that. I did do some research before posting here.
Doesn't that only unlock it for International use?
Gt tools doesn't unlock sprint GSM. I had to go through some guy to do it over the air and it's awesome

Go to idoneapps.com . This is the guy who created the Domestic unlock. You have to pay for Domestic unlock. GT Tool is free but its only for International SIM unlock. All the directions are on the site, and its legit as I've unlocked 3 Sprint Samsung phones, including a Note 4 just today. It's $34.98 and you wont have LTE (you'll get 4G) on a GSM carrier, but it aint no thing. 4G is plenty fast for me especially being able to use a Sprint flagship Samsung Note 4 on my T-Mobile service.

My guy only charges $30, but it's besides that.
I run a Store, I'm pretty Savvy when it comes to Tech, and I understand programming, but am not Fluent in it.
I'd like to be able to Unlock it myself, so I can charge the people who come to me to do it.
If it can be done with just Root and ADB, that means I should be able to do it myself,
I just have to have whatever ADB command,
[probably sideloading an APK of sorts, That I'm guessing needs Root Permissions, Esp with the N910P on 5.1.1]
and some possible Dial Codes into the Device that causes the Domestic Unlock.
Cause if he charges $30, I'd have to charge $40-$50,
and I'd have to wait on him as well.
Why do all this when I could possibly do it myself?
But I'm guessing I won't be able to find out because that means less profit for the people who DO know how to do it.
Not that I offer my unlocks online, though, I run a Brick and Mortar type shop, no website, or online presence what-so-ever.

I personally couldn't decompile my zip code, but it's some pretty high level stuff from my understanding. It's also the only unlock I'm aware of that you can simply download. Your guy may have bought unlocks in bulk which would cost him $20 and sells them for $30 = $10 profit per unlock. Or maybe he has a box?
Also it's 100% automated, so no waiting on anyone. I say bypass your guy and sell them for whatever you can.

I have this phone and it works great with Cricket which is AT&T. I had it unlocked at idoneapps about a year ago. Them guys are great. They are always updating their app with new features and they're really helpful. Did you change your GCF settings like there website instructs? Also are you using stock ROM? Some aosp roms dont work for me either cause of them being setup for sprint.
Send them guys an email they will help you!

All you should have to do is that and then add your apn. Check that, cause it might need put in again. Also in settings, more networks, mobile networks, change your network mode to gsm/umts.
Do you have service then? and just no data?
Let me know if that works?

OK cool. well that lets us know that they app did unlock your phone. I might be able to finish helping with your data. Ill try anyhow.
Main thing is to check the network mode, whats it set at?
And check your apn? And double check the values you put in it.

This phone only has 3 lte bands active for the Sprint network which ATt uses different bands. So you can't get lte. You'll get hspa+ which is like 4g. It has nothing to do with his app that unlocks phone. Supposedly there's a way to unlock your lte bands but I'm very Leary of that. Don't want to turn phone in to brick.:crying:

I did some extended research and also noticed there is nothing posted on here about this so I figured I post my results. This has been confirmed with two users that this method does work.
For anyone that is having issues not getting volte/HD calling to work here are the steps provided below:
Before you continue you have to make sure your line is provisioned to work with Volte/HD calling. Most of us bought the device away from Verizon. This wont provision it just by sticking the sim in (I have seen a few that have claim this). To provision your line you need to activate the HD calling on verizon account with a verizon compatable HD device (Droid Turbo, S5 ect) The link below provides compatable devices. This is only for Nexus 6 devices not bought from verizon.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/advanced-calling-devices/
Stick the sim in one of these devices. Activate HD calling and make sure it works. Then Transfer the sim back over to the nexus 6 .
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and click to turn on volte provisioned flag. (if it wont let u turn on flash the bootloader/radio from here thanks to @scrosler for this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/bootloader-radio-boot-img-boot-loader-t3052425
Reboot twice and then go to settings more, cellular networks, switch preferred type to lte/cdma
and then tick the 4g lte mode. before u make a test call to confirm volte works turn wifi completely off and that ur on lte service.
Reboot and then ur good. You only have to do this one with the provisioning of another device. once the provision is done your account is good this day forward. Unless u get another sim card you will have to do this again.
Again this is only for non verizon nexus 6 users.
Please make sure ur on the 5.1 radio else this wont work.

I had a user @madAdam6LOVE who i helped with. We did the steps with out the extra device wouldnt work. We did this with his s5 and his volte works. I followed the other threads and none of them showed getting the sim provisioned. He had the s5 before the nexus 6 and never activated the volte. He activated it which provisioned and now it works flawlessly.

I have read the threads, and I called out a few that stated that they did it and later found out they activated the sim with another device.
Verizon even stated to activate the sim they have to do it with another device since it comes up as unsupported device.

I was able to log into the VZW account management site and activate advanced calling / VOLTE.;
My Account --> Manage Products & Apps --> Get Products --> Free Products --> Activate Advanced Calling.
Even though I activated my N6 after ordering from Motorola back in December, VZW did recognize that the N6 supported VOLTE. The N6 is using a sim activated through a G1 Moto X.

This option isn't displayed in my phone. Is this something that'll appear once I bring the SIM back into my phone after doing the steps above in a Verizon compatible phone? I'm on CM12.1-20150531-NIGHTLY-shamu and the closest thing I can find is: Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Preferred network type: which lists options: LTE(recommended), 3G, 1x, and Global. Again, will other options pop up after I provision the sim in a Verizon compatible phone?

I have already done the steps of activating through the Verizon website, and the *#*#4636#*#* to turn on volte provisioned flag and enabled "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode". Do I need to undo all of that before attempting to activate VoLTE in a Verizon compatible HD device?
This option isn't displayed in my phone. Is this something that'll appear once I bring the SIM back into my phone after doing the steps above in a Verizon compatible phone? I'm on CM12.1-20150531-NIGHTLY-shamu and the closest thing I can find is: Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Preferred network type: which lists options: LTE(recommended), 3G, 1x, and Global. Again, will other options pop up after I provision the sim in a Verizon compatible phone?
How can I determine if I'm on the 5.1 radio?
Thank you for this thread and all of your support!

I already have. I'm just trying to determine if I need to undo all of those steps to provision it in a Verizon compatible device first? In other words, I'm trying to determine if the order of operation is required or if I perform all of your steps in any order, whether it should work.
The first thing you need is your MSL code from Sprint/your service provider . You can do this by simply calling the Sprint customer service/your providers customer service and ask for the MSL code after saying an alibi like slow connection(i just said i wanted for personal records ). You can also use any MSL utility app that is working on your device.
Now open the dialer and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
Click on the Edit button in the popup and enter your MSL code and click OK.
Now navigate to APN settings from the Mobile Networks menu and open APN2 EHRPD Internet and APN2 LTE internet individually and change APN Type to default, mms, dun.
Save the settings in both the APN configurations and reboot the device.

I would like to know this too. Only thing holding me back from getting it. Tried to find if it worked on the note 4 for T-Mobile, doesn't seem like anyone tried.
so how do you actually use it. does it unlock some toggle or something?
it did not work for me. it still was asking for a hotspot plan. i redid it a few times with the same result

You turn on the factory wifi Hotspot that comes built it.
Without the mod it will not turn on, and a pop up message that says your not subscribed to a tethering plan or something to that extent will show up. After this mod it turns on as if you were paying the carrier for a plan. This is not new for the note 5 nor is it different. Please look under older Samsung phones if you can't find what your looking for. The instructions on how to do it are exactly the same as note 4 and other phones.
Yeah i found it. i saw the bluetooth and usb but not wifi. i found it, dont know how i missed it. apparently i have a plan because it lets me tether out of the box.
Confirmation working with my sprint device.
Confirmed working with my sprint note 5. Don't forget to click the option "more" in the top right corner when changing the settings and click save before rebooting device.

Do you have Verizon or a plan that's not unlimited? If you pay per GB for data or have limited data plan they usually don't care how you use it. People like myself that have unlimited data and sprint they lock it down to get you to pay extra for sharing your unlimited data.
This msl code is different for each number?
What about fully unlocked phone, isn't this feature already there by default? I never bought subsidized phone from carrier, I always bought unlocked from overseas, where tethering was always available,so I don't know how this thing works.
My son bought unlocked iPhone 6 plus and he can tether as well. So it is only not working by default on subsidized phones?
this is the same method i used back with my Sprint S6e. but i'm wondering about my Note 5 Duos. i haven't gone out to get any SIMS yet. i'm currently wirelessly tethered to my S6e.

This doesn't seem to work since the Marshmallow update. Suggestion?
My dad recently purchased a 900V from Ebay that was on Verizon. Got the phone activated on ATT just fine and he can make phone calls and send text messages. However, he is unable to get rid of the message that pops up saying that its not a Verizon SIM Card. Any ideas? Thanks!
Your dad should have bought an att or T-Mobile S5. LTE won't work right on a Verizon S5, and I don't think there's a way to permanently remove the SIM card message without root.
I believe this should work temporarily:
Go to settings >> applications >> application manager >> all
Then find an application called "activation agent".
Click on it, then click force stop.
This should suppress the message until the phone gets rebooted.

Thank you sir! I told him to get a ATT or Tmobile phone but he was convinced that the verizon S5 would work due to it being advertised as a GSM phone. He was also having an issue not being able to access the internet without WiFi but someone at the ATT store fixed that for him. Now hes not able to receive MMS messages

Yes, there IS a fix!
I'll never understand why people reply when they don't actually have an answer. Fact is, your father didn't buy an AT&T phone and it's unlikely he's going to go sell his and buy an AT&T phone, so why introduce such a non-answer??
Now that I'm done ranting...
If you root the phone and install xposed framework, you can block status bar notifications using Gravity Box (>Status Bar Tweaks > Notification Blocker) or there is another module named NotifyClean which will also allow you to remove the SIM card nag.
I am using a Verizon phone on Cricket Wireless, which uses AT&T towers and have personally used the above solution.
By the way, my reception with Cricket is EVERY bit as good as it was on Verizon, even while traveling across country in some sparsely populated towns. Furthermore, my bill dropped from $420 to $200, taxes included! I also have 50 GB of hi-speed dafa (10 for each line) vs a shared 15 GB across all 5 lines with Verizon. There is only one minor disadvantage. With a Verizon phone, you will be limited to 4g speeds (~5 m/s), and will not be able to take advantage of LTE speeds (~20-25 m/s), but really, I'm incredibly doubtful anyone is actually gonna notice a difference on a mobile device.

First of all credits go with many thanks to @hyelton for the instructions and original post for LG G5!
NOTE: starting with ZV8 firmware version Sprint has patched its ROM, so this option is not available any more.
Now short instructions on how to switch your LG V20 from CDMA to LTE network and configure your 3d party SIM APN settings:
1. Download attached HiddenMenuCall app and install it on your device.
2. Start the application and scroll down to IOT(CDG2) row and press it.
3. Next scroll to LTE settings and press it.
4. Select afterwards Operation Mode and change it from Production to Lab Network
-------
After that the phone will reboot.
-------
5. After reboot start HiddenMenuCall again and scroll down to IOT(CDG2) row and press it.
6. Next scroll to LTE settings and press it.
7. Now select APN Settings and press it.
8. From the upper right corner press 3 dotted menu and select New APN.
9. Configure your APN (refer to Biggest APN list) and press SAVE again in the 3 dot context menu.
That's all you'll now have a LTE/GSM enabled device

That's terrible. Report sellers that do that.
But You can't do what your wanting to do. You can't put that phone on Verizon, it doesn't work that way. Unlocked means it will work on AT&T, T-Mobile or any other GSM carrier in the USA or outside the USA.
2. I don't think there is root for the sprint model.
3. You can't flash other carrier firmwares. You can ONLY use the firmware that's on the device. If you flash a different carriers firmware you'll brick your device..

I mean worst case scenario I will use on boost mobile.

Verizon doesn't officially support non Verizon devices meaning non LTE data may not work or work correctly.
It working on Verizon doesn't mean it's unlocked. Unlocking a phone relates to GSM not CDMA. Also if you use that apk your phone will work perfectly fine on AT&T or T-Mobile. Just like the Sprint G5 does.

OK first problem I want to sort on my V20 is Tethering shutting down after 20 seconds, every single time it's switched on.
I'm in the UK and have the H990ds Taiwan variant.
When trying to change APN settings some options are not there when I compare to the settings on my Z2, and some other options that are there cannot be edited.
So this thread looked hopeful but I've installed the apk from the OP link and this is what I get when I open the app -

This thread of for specifically making a US carrier device be network unlocked. This that most likely won't be of any use to your model.
That's a very strange issue. Settings with your APN won't make your hotspot shut off. You can turn on hotspot even if data is not working.
Seems more like a software issue or hardware issue.

Very interesting post. As mentioned, this App is unfortunately intended to be used in the states only. Should it be possible to help us switch the bands for different carriers in different countries, would it be great!
@hyelton
The problem was down to a Sony app that I inadvertently installed when setting up my V20.
Thanks for your help.

I don't see the IOT (CDG2) menu when i open the hidden menu on my H918. Does this apply to T-Mob?
I found a trick that works to enable the hotspot if you have an unlimited plan with no hotspot included. It works on my Verizon Note 8.
You follow everything in the video, except you only disable the red "mobile hotspot and tethering " app. Not the others.
It helps if you have Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot in the quick swipe down menu of your phone. Once you set up the wrong passworded Wi-Fi all you have to do is toggle them in the drop down. It's easy and fast.
Let me know if the link doesn't work.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...CC4wAw&usg=AFQjCNGLD66UrxdFo9tyLyXax3CAc0inCg
No go. I just get this error message no matter what when the hotspot is disabled - "All apps associated with this action have been turned off, blocked, or are not installed."
On mine I have Wi-Fi sharing enabled in the hotspot settings and also make sure you only disable the one app, not all 3 like the video. Hope that helps. Not sure if it'll make a difference.
Attached a picture of the package disabler.
I thought I had wifi sharing on already, but I guess not. That did it, thank you!!
not sure if this will work for Verizon but I found this method on galaxy s8+ and works on sprint note 8.
Hotspot hack works here as well. Seems easier than the other method.
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Search for LTEfunctionality
3. Click on com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Launch
5. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
6. Add " ,dun " to APN2 LTE and EHRPD internet under APN type. That line should read default, mms, dun when you finish.
7. Native Hotspot should work. You may have to do this hack again if you update Profile.

I have a VZW N8 and nothing happens when I try to launch com.test.LTEfunctionality. I tried to modify the APN settings through ADB already, and that didn't seem to take either, so I think Verizon just has the APN settings locked up pretty tight.
Do you guys have carrier locked or unlock? I still have unlimited from 2009 and the hot spot works just fine without any of this on an unlocked version....

I'm on the locked VZW, but also still have the grandfathered unlimited.
If I knew that workarounds would be available for all the network specific features, I would have definitely preferred unlocked.
Though I would not have gotten anywhere near the deal I got for the locked VZW...
So in an effort to make this as convenient as possible, I made a Bixby quick command to perform the necessary actions.
First off, I had to install the app WIFI Prioritizer and set the wrong-passworded network as #1 priority, with auto switch on. My other wifi networks all have auto switch off.
Quick command as follows:
1- Turn off wifi
2- Turn on wifi
3- Turn on hotspot
4- Turn off wifi
The timing of Bixby's execution seems perfect, however, there's a big caveat...
It seems wifi-sharing is turned off every time after disconnecting from a wifi network (including just turning wifi off when connected to a network).
I have not figured out any way to have Bixby turn wifi sharing back on.
So basically, unless you never connect to wifi, the quick command won't work without also manually turning on wifi sharing.
If anybody has any suggestions to deal with the wifi sharing issue, please let me know!
I have the Verizon version of the phone. Which is technically unlocked but with the Verizon firmware. If it's like the vzw s8 then we should be able to flash the unlocked firmware to it and the hotspot will just work. But the Verizon firmware locks down the hotspot unless you pay, or find a hack around it.
Dr, so just to confirm you have the carrier specific locked version. That would explain why you need to do this work around.
I have a non carrier specific unlocked phone on VZW network which activates the hot spot just fine without any of this.
Only reason I'm posting is to help pin down who needs this mod.
Im also used to flashing the hotspot apps when I root a new phone, which is over of the main reasons I root however I don't need it with note 8.
Does an unlocked phone on Verizon still get throttled after 15GB of Hotspot Data? I had been using an S3 with Foxfi and never got a message about using Hotspot Data till yesterday. Was looking at possibly getting another unlocked Note8 to serve as a Hotspot if I wouldn't get hit after 15GB on Verizon's new unlimited plan.

The best solution for Verizon phones is to flash the unlocked firmware onto your phone. Super easy and problem solved. The one downside is you will lose vvm and wifi calling, but I don't use those anyway. And you get rid of the Verizon bloat.

@Proweedsmoker: thanks for your post. i relied on it when i ordered my unlocked note 8. i have an unlimited data plan from 2004. the phone arrived yesterday; it "only" took 2 weeks to arrive. i went to verizon to get a micro sim card (since the sim in my note 3 is the larger version). they activated it and first thing i did was turn on the hotspot to see if i could get wifi on my note 3. it worked perfectly. huge relief; no rooting, flashing or potential brick-making procedures. i'm loving this note 8 so far.

It's a great phone but I keep going back to the V20 because of my 3 main reasons: Hi-Fi sound, Interactive 2nd Screen and the ability of picking up a call by bringing the phone to your hear.
