Hey Guys,
my phone is stock, unrooted, and unlocked. one day it decided it didn't want to remember the IMEI any more. since its not unlocked I did not have an EFS backup. I tried unlocking and factory flashing with no luck so I decided to use a EFS back up from a friends 6p and try and see if that restores mine.
it worked! my phone now reads my sim card, has the right imei, and baseband!

This is my first Samsung phone so I was unaware of the precautions I should take before rooting and flashing TWRP. I am still on my stock ROM that was shipped on the phone but I am rooted and my phone doesn't recognise any SIM cards and the IMEI is not stored in the phone.
I took a backup of my efs the first time using twrp however after restoring this, the problem remains
Is there anything that I can do?

I also have this problem.
I recommend that you reset your flash counter and return to stock rom/kernel and book it into a service repair by Samsung.
also i think on qualcomm based devices the NV DATA is stored somewhere else not in the efs folder.

Okay thanks, I'll probably try my phone seller first aswell.
Good luck to you!
Flashed my stock ROM and now my SIM card is recognised and my IMEI on device now matches that of the one on my box.
First thing I am going to do now is backup my efs!
Hey I'm from india and own an i9500
bought 5 months ago
I was using my phone normally and flashed a stock rom with ODIb
the phone booted up.
The problem is that I have emergency calls only and my IMEI has been changed to Fake IMEI
1) my phone is out of warranty as some moisture traces have gone into iy and samsung asks for 200$ for every small problem they need to change the board
2) I don't think so I have the EFS backup
Please Oh please someone guide me what to do?

There's a thread on that here. You could try that, but I think that without a backup, it's going to be pretty hard to get it back up. First thing I do when I get a new phone is to backup the EFS.

Did you actually tried to flash your original Stock ROM with Odin? If not, try other stock ROMs.
There's another ref link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393289
I recommend you read through that thoroughly.

Yes I did flash the stock rom with ODIN which I successively used before
I read it but this is actually getting impossible for me.
After the phone shows generic IMEI.
will backing up the efs help now?
Also I flashed CM 10.
that also didn't give me back my IMEI.
really appreciate your help
and would be really grateful if someone guides me through this catastrophe.
Also I forgot to mention that I update to stock MJ5 4.3
I read that it changes the directory of efs?
Please someone help me!

Since you updated to mj5 you'll have to use that firmware version in odin.
maybe
Maybe you could wipe Dalvik and cache memory, then do a factory reset through the recovery menu. This will reset everything of your phone, so your IMEI should go back to it's real number(you'll lose all your data so make a backup before doing it).
Have you also tested if it's not the SIM that doesn't work by putting it into another cell-phone?

Sim isn't the problem.
Also wipin dalvik Cache might now fix the problem. But I will try it
thanks
any more suggestion?
A factory reset/wipe Dalvik ain't magically fixing this. If you've gone back to stock (a rom released by your carrier) & your IMEI hasn't returned & you have no backup, you're boned. Service centre (more expensive option), or ask around local mobile repair shops; they might be able to help more cheaply.
First, I have a Moto X style (XT1572) and it has the IMEI as 0! I need help on how to get it back, desperately, please help!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, it seems like I have "No service" on my phone, and it says that my IMEI number is 0, and my IMEI/SV is 01. I tried flashing stock rom onto this when it happened. I can't afford a new one and the only way I can keep this phone is if I can fix it - is there any way I can make an IMEI then find the folder to put this back into my phone? I have no backup, but I do have a folder called GSII_repair and it has 2 files, efs_save.tar and efs_save.tar.gz, but I'm not sure it is of any use. I just recognized the efs as the efs folder. I can't find where my IMEI is at the moment, either, so I don't know whether it is completely deleted or just corrupted. I also have a Moto G 3rd gen, I may be able to get an IMEI file from that, and then change the hexadecimals to fit my phone's original IMEI which is on my box. So please tell me, am I completely runined, and my phone is destroyed, or is there a chance that I can fix it? Thanks for any replies. Guys please help me though, I need it!
try reflashing the stock rom, then let me know if it worked. and, btw, its only been 6 minutes as ince you posted.
Thanks so much for the quick reply, I have tried re flashing stock rom back onto my device, as well as attempting to flash many custom roms onto it, with no luck. It is currently rooted, so if I need to access any files I am able to. My dad'll kill me if he finds out, but I know alot about phones and can follow any instruction.
Do you have the box or a sticker or anything with your original IMEI number on it?
posts with bad IMEI are troubling, to say the least..
`fastboot erase all` is the bane of Moto devices, once it has been done if you don't have a backup of the EFS partition to restore you are pretty much screwed and need to get it reflashed by Moto.
I know this might sound a bit weird, but can't he grab an efs partition from another pure with the efs zeroed out and then he can re edit with his imei?
IMEI
I do still have my IMEI on my box, I know what it is. Is anyone out there willing to help me by copying their efs partition and then setting the IMEI value to 0, so I can change it and then put it back into my phone? I don't know, but it might work.
Hello everybody,
What can I do if my Axon 7 has lost the IMEI by restoring a backup through TWRP? My baseband version is unrecognized.
I have tried to save on this thread the mobile phone, but the problem "IMEI Changer" does not recognize DIAG port.
Windows only shows:
Sry for my bad english. I use Google Translate.
I hate to say this, but you're out of luck. If you restored your EFS partition via a bad version of TWRP, you're stuck. Send it back to ZTE.
Damn and I was hoping through the program IMEI Changer could save the phone ...
I have the A2017G model and the bootloader has been unlocked. The device was bought at Amazon in Germany. Is it possible to send the device to the manufacturer because of the warranty?
I encountered the exact issue you told me. I restored a TWRP backup that I had made through a faulty TWRP version and it made me lose my IMEI and baseband. Tried just about anything. Nothing worked.
Restored everything to stock, reflashed stock recovery and locked bootloader and sent it back. Got a new one, only had to pay the shipping costs of my device to Germany. I hope you're as lucky as I have been. Thumbs up.
Folks need to stop messing with the EFS partition. The only things you should be backing up with twrp is boot, system, and data. Nothing else.
Have you tried the zadig tool?
http://zadig.akeo.ie
Also, I've found this Qualcomm Driver to always work for me in the past. Surprising. It's the ONLY one that could help my device get detected by certain tools.
I uploaded it to my AFH for safekeeping: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634746189
If you haven't tried any of this yet, just give it a whirl. I used the IMEI tool to rewrite my IMEI when I accidentally wiped it, and it was perfect.
My imei is shown as unknow i have a US phone but its working fine so i dont really pay much atention to it lol, but i will try the app kwesi posted to see if i can get it working
Your EFS partitions may have been corrupted or wiped. Do you have any TWRP nandroid backups? If so, you may have a backup of those two partitions modemst1, modemst2. See this article for more options.
thanks!!
