Hello, First time poster, and quite frankly a noob at a lot of this. Here's my issue, i have a at&t Samsung Galaxy S4 that i recieved from a family member that was stuck in a serious boot loop. Only way i could get it to come back was to flash the stock firmware, which worked excellent....now my issue, it seems like about 98% of the time i have the "No Service" icon up top. I got the phone locked through at&t but have since unlocked it to use on Straight talk, as thats what i was originally advised to do by an at&t member (turns out I didnt even need to do this in the first place as ST is just using the at&t towers as a reseller). Unlocked phone, still no service. I had ST previously in a Galaxy S2 in my current location and service was superb, so i know its not a carrier issue. Is it possible that when i flashed stock rom, that i missed something? I checked around and it seems like my modem is updated to the latest setting. When i switched it to ST after about 30 minutes the signal popped up and it seems like as soon as it showed up, it was gone again. Since that point i've been able to make 1 call (I activated ST about 4 days ago) and that call was today, with only 1 bar of reception. Shortly after that call the signal dropped completely again. I am at a complete loss as to why it refuses to get any reception. I was thinking maybe the modem needs to be updated, but the wifi works perfect, and the reception seems to show up (just as 1 little bar) rarely. Anyone have any ideas?
Also, as a little side note, i have done a hard reset a few times and to no avail at fixing the issue. I assume since at certain times i do get the little "1 bar" connection that its not a hardware issue but a software issue thats withholding the phone from reaching potential reception. Any help would work wonders as i've paid the $60 for the BYOP Straight talk.
Which firmware did you flash as the latest firmware is 5.01 and there is no stock rom from att for this version.

If your wifi is working perfect, then modem is not your problem. I have never used Straighttalk but you mentioned that ST is using the AT&T towers so there might be a problem in your simcard registration. Call the ST customer service, tell them your problem and ask them to reprogram your simcard with your phone IMEI. See that would solve your problem.

I have been using a DVP for about 3 months... i got 2 DVP replaced and this is my 3rd one... in all these DVP's i found that the signal isnt always full and every hour or so it say NO network and then in few minutes, it gets network back. Also when i am indoors my voice breaks...
i DONT KNOW IF THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MY SERVICE PROVIDER OR THE HANDSET ITSELF. ANYONE ALSO FACING THE SAME ISSUES?
P.S : when i insert the same sim to another phone it works flawless!
did the new firmware (out yesterday) help?

i still didnt get a new update notification. probably i live in india and it is still not out here...
I had/have these issues. The first DVP seemed to get worse with cell connection the longer I had it, 2 months. Took it back to MS store and traded out for another DVP. Having some of the same issues. Not able to completely put the blame on T-M since second DVP has same FW (105) as the first DVP. Irritating to have dropped calls and/or no signal standing outside on a clear day (PHX, AZ). Heck, don't even walk under an awning no signal at all. Would like to figure out if this is a FW problem or T-M problem, but with the new FW update being pushed back yet again to whenever and no access to other FW....
Another problem is that the phone will be sitting on the counter and hit the power button and it shows a cell and data signal. Once the phone is picked up and unlocked, all signals stop and no signal until phone is once again on counter for almost a minute.
T-M no help on phone or in store. Dell no help. Looking at other options at this time.
i Even sent a e-mail to dell, telling them to rectify this problem as soon as possible.. i am waiting for their reply... i will keep u posted once abt the reply...
I have an unlocked and rooted Samsung Galaxy phone.
Everything was working fine for a year.
Randomly, I lost connection today, and it says that it is not registered on the Network anymore. I tried taking the battery out and re starting the phone and taking out the Sim card, but no luck.
Any suggestions? If I were to install a new rom or the old one, do you think that would fix it?
I was thinking maybe its a problem with Fido, which is my provider, over a unpaid bill or something. I am not sure. Everything was working fine until like 9pm tonight, and then I lost connection.
Or do you think I have to use Odin to put it back to the original factory rom?
If I put it back to the original factory rom, would it become locked again?
This phone was very complicated to unlock, as when I tried the normal method to unlock it, it just gave me zeros.
I bought my phone originally off ebay about 8 months ago.
Everything worked fine pretty much up until tonight.
Do you think this means my phone is black listed? And I will have to change IMEI?
I am going to call my service provider here, but is unlocked, its a T-Mobile phone, but I am using Fido as a provider.
I got a vibrant t959 but some one updated it on i9000 rome by odin and unlocked as i9000. it unlocked but signal up and down always. now i updated it again on t959 original rom and rooted it, recovery and download mode came back again now its normal. but still signal problem. when check status typing *#7465625# it show all locks off position, but still have signal problem. pls any body help me if can.
regards
I was just wondering if I reset everything back to stock/original, will I have to unlock the phone again?
Or will it stay unlocked?
Check your APN settings first try googling your carriers proper APN and make sure its set properly. If thats not it, try reflashing your rom make a backup first.. I'm not sure about having to reunlock your phone you'll have to search XDA. That is a curious problem. Hopefully its not a stolen phone if so they may have blocked the IMEI number the only way to tell is to call the carrier if your paying your bill hey should be willing to answer your question. I recommend buying phones from someone you know and not online.
The phone actually worked today.
I am living in a basement, and I guess one of the towers went down or the reception is just gone bad.
When I went outside 30 minutes later I was getting full signal and everything worked.
Then I went back in the basement, it went back to searching for signal and provider.
Very strange, as I always use to receive signal in the past.
This same thing happened to me last night. I bought my phone a year ago outright. I downloaded sgs unlock app and unlocked the phone. It has worked fine until last night. I have tried entering the unlock code again and it says network unlock sim unsuccessful. I went to the att store and got a new sim thinking maybe the sim card quit working and this did not help. Seems like this has happened to a few people last night. Can anyone help?
My device: Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 (Sprint)
My location: 60193
My issue:
1) In February I received the 4.4.2 OTA update for my Samsung Galaxy S4
2) After that and while in 60193 randomly but takes no more than one hour my phone will lose internet (3G and LTE), must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
3) Also randomly but takes no more than one hour my phone will lose signal and will be unable to make a call, must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
4) Additional information on making calls: phone will sometimes show signal and will just say dialing when making a call (indefinitely), when I press end it will freeze the dialing screen but you can still use the phone (just no internet or phone calls). Must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
5) I have performed all trouble shooting options with Tech both in store on the phone.
6) I have hard reset phone.
7) I have exchanged phone.
8) Still experiencing the same issues.
9) When I am far away from 60193 I do not experience issues.
10) Sprint continues to give me a run around.
I can't post a link, but here is a post that details the run around: Go to the Sprint community forums and search "Samsung Galaxy S4 4.4.2 Network Issue" to see the run around I have received...
Can you help me???

They are working on the towers in your area. You will just have to be patient until they are done. Could be over a month. The behavior you are describing is definitely tower related.

The thing is... The whole senerio that I described is only happening to people that have an S4 and updated to the 4.4.2 with Sprint. So it is the area, but it is also connected to the Sprint S4 with the 4.4.2 update (no other phones are impacted). Thoughts?

I agree with cruise350. If you have tried a different phone, it's likely the towers in your area. FWIW, I am having similar troubles: dial a phone number, my dialer hangs; send text messages and they fail; dropped calls, etc, though I don't have to restart my phone. And, I'm on the original MDC stock ROM, 4.2.2, though rooted. I spent at least half an hour on the phone with tech support yesterday. She had me do ##72786# which initiated a fresh hands-free activation, updated my profile and PRL (which didn't change). Then she started looking at the towers in my area of Minneapolis, and said Sprint was working on 3 of them. Hopefully, they'll be fixed sometime in April. The whole metro area is a mess. Sprint has been promising us LTE for months, but when driving around, a lot of us experience dropped calls, and failed calls. Sometimes you can't even get 3G, though you wouldn't realize it unless you're running an app that will tell you what your signal is. I use Signal Check lite, Advanced Signal, Network Signal Info, and Sensorly, if you're interested. Sometimes I'll actually get a 4G signal. I consider that a blessing. I mostly turn on Wifi when home, otherwise I might not have any data at all. I'm staying with Sprint only because of unlimited data. I'm not a huge user of data. I don't stream stuff very often. But even so, I've used close to a GB of data in 3 weeks. I'd hate to be with a carrier that has a 2GB limit or that slows you to 1X is you go over a their "limit."
Hi all,
I have an SPH-L720 (not a SPH-L720T). Everything was fine with it on NAE firmware and CM11 nightly.
Recently, I used the upgrade available on my line to get a family member an SPH-L720T S4 for her line. When it activated, it kicked my phone off, but then I just did an ESN swap online. No biggie.
My S4 is back on the original line. So I went back to stock to update profile and PRL. Everything seemed fine. This was 3 days ago.
Since then, I have had poor signal or signal cutting in and out like crazy. I even thought it could be ROM related so I flashed back to Stock NAE and was still without signal in a place I KNOW had decent signal for a full day.
Given I have been on the road and drove 700 miles the past couple of days, I can't say what signal should be. However, most of the time my phone has said "NO SIGNAL", two of my family members have S4's and have had at least a bar or two of 3G.
I have seen digital roaming quite often, and also LTE has been great in high signal strength areas. I have seen non-roaming 3G, but not very often.
Any idea what could cause this?
Also, I know this is ROM related, but why is there no longer an APN menu to switch or edit them in CM11? I am actually wondering if the phone isn't switching APNs properly.
I am going to go back to stock right now and see what I can find out.
I was running tx_dbs_tx Hybrid X 3.0 up until this morning when my phone suddenly kept popping up the Data Roaming Guard. Whenever I would attempt to make a call, it would alert me to a Verizon error to reboot my phone -I am on Sprint. I flashed with Odin the stock OK1 software, and besides having Knox and ItsOn back on my phone and battery life being horrible once again, I am still receiving the Data Roaming Guard splash screen and still receiving the Verizon error when making calls. I was able to make a single call after using the Activate Device self-service, but it didn't even last 20 minutes.
Again, back on stock OK1 ROM from Sammobile, re-rooted with Freeza's OK1 stock kernel, SuperSU Beta 2.52, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you live in a 4G Sprint area? If not this EXACT same thing happened to me and my wife right before they started 4G in our area. Even service calls went to Verizon first. Evidently even the Sprint reps had no idea that 4G was getting turned on in my area, they had me do all the #* dialer codes and both our phones said we were in roaming for like a day or two.

Yes, San Antonio was one of the first markets with Sprint to have 4G WiMax and then 4G LTE. It had been running just fine for months, but suddenly stopped working. Even after flashing stock back on without root or any added apps besides Sprint's auto-downloads, it still had the problem. Took it to the store yesterday and baffled them all for 2 hours before they ordered me a replacement. They even tried a new sim card because I told them that I've had problems intermittently in the past with the Roaming Guard popping up and forums stated it could be a bad sim card. The Sprint # codes wouldn't even work. Anyways, they ordered me a replacement- won't have it until Tuesday but thanks for the response. I had never heard of anything like this happening before and it struck me as odd. I even checked the settings for the network and they all checked out fine, Sprint store reps did the same and were just as perplexed as I was.
Mine was doing almost the same. Seemed like it had to go to verizon when it would go between towers. Then back to sprint. So I did the ##72786# that is suppose to launch the hands free activation. Although it didnt launch it(due to custom rom), it did run the provisioning stuff and fixed mine. Hasn't went to roaming yet.
No promise it will work. But hopfully it will fix yours. Assuming you are on a note 4.

Yes, I am on Sprint Note 4, but the pound codes wouldn't even work. As soon as I put in the last # sign it just cleared out the dialer. I found a complete list of # codes on sammobile or samfirmware site, can't remember which, and even Sprint attempted them. I had flashed back to stock available on Sammobile prior to going to Sprint, but it still didn't work. You don't think different flashes or ROMs or kernels could have caused this do you?
Anyways, I have the insurance through Sprint and have a new one on the way Tuesday. I just hate not being able to figure out a software related problem. I was also trying to find a way to do it manually while rooted, but couldn't find the right edits because I cannot even remember how to get into the correct settings at the moment-mind cluttered with too many projects.
I appreciate all of the responses though and really enjoy learning about my device on xda and hope to either create my own apps or even cook a ROM in the near future.
