Restore DRM keys - Xperia Z2 General

Hello. I would like to unlock my BL but I don't want to sacrifice the exclusive functionality "B.E\BionZ..." , I have already saved a back up of TA partition, I know I can restore it after unlocking the BL and get everything back like before, I have a question though, I would like to flash a custom Kernel with a custom recovery, can I restore TA after flashing the custom kernel. what would happen then? is it possible? Please reply as I don't know why everyone eats his tongue whenever I ask some question. Thanks

You cannot use custom kernels and aosp/cm based roms with locked bootloader. If you relock your BL you will get a bootloop or a softbrick. Or you simply wont be able to restore TA while using UL rom/kernel.

I don't intend to use CM based kernel, but stock based custom kernel with TWRP. Is it possible.

Then maybe you need not to unlock your BL at all, which kernel you intend to use?

I have no idea. But any stock based custom kernel will do. All I want is a permanent TWRP kernel based.

Oh. I want an overclocking kernel with much more functionalities to tweak it as I like with help of some kernel toolbox from Google Play
Thanks

Sorry Im not aware of such kernel. There is M5 kernel but it is based on CM kernel. Anyway, if you use stock based kernel and stock based rom you dont need to unlock your BL. But if this kernel wont install on locked BL then it wont work if you relock you BL. You will get a bootloop.

Thanks. What about unlocking the BL, will all the exclusive features go away? is there an efficient way to regain them?

X reality engine will be gone and advanced low light camera post processing will be gone. There is no way to get this working on an unlocked bootloader AFAIK. X reality is not a big deal, but if you dont want to compromise camera quality you might reconsider unlocking your bootloader.
I would try some roms for locked bootloader first to see if you're satisfied with them and their features. Existenz is a good one, PureX, phoenix rom...all of them have features like custom roms. You can also download kernel tuner or similar apps to fine tune your stock kernel, many options are available except for overclocking.

@ karim-ps
Custom kernels, such as Androplus & M5 are for a phone with an unlocked BL.
I will not advise trying to use a custom kernel on locked B/L, it will soft-brick.
That said, DRM ( Bionz Xreality ) CAN BE RESTORED, with the DRM fix V3 on an unlocked B/L phone.
Androplus plus kernel is stock based but with all the little tweaks you are looking for. This requires an unlocked B/L.
Hope this helps.

I haven't tried this myself, but here try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
also make sure you use backup TA to backup your drm keys incase it all fails and always read and follow the guides properly

Modifying a custom ROM to use a stock kernel

Is it possible to take a custom ROM that uses a custom kernel and modify it, either by flashing or manually editing the zip file, to use a stock kernel instead?
Just a thought I had to help those with locked bootloaders.

If it uses a TW based kernel, no changes are needed of course. AOSP is different enough that booting it on a locked bootloader stuck on a different kernel is generally accepted as not something to spend time on. Just putting a stock kernel in the ROM zip doesn't help since Safestrap doesn't flash them anyway. In order to make it work, you'd have to make sure everything was set up the way the kernel wants it and calls for things.

I may give writing my own TW based kernel+ROM package a go then.

You should first of all install this recovery: "philz touch recovery" Look for threads on this forum and youtube videos how to do it, follow this exactly and properly because this part you don't want to mess up.
When done with that you want to take a backup with "philz touch recovery" there is also guides and videos on how to do that.
Both this things are pretty easy but just be carefull you do them right.
When that is done you will install your ROM, that is very easy. Download ROM to your SD card and use an app like "ROM customizer" to install the ROM. There might be different installs for different ROMS' all ROMs have their own guides, but most of them are pretty much the same.
Just read and you will know everything about how to do this very soon.

I don't think there is much to worry about.
The ROM you want to install supports your version. The recovery should do too.
Just make sure you do everything right when installing the recovery and you should be fine.
Any mistake after that can be repaired with your recovery.
Root is all you need. You should not need to unlock anything else. And don't worry about KNOX.
If your bootloader is locked, then I don't know how to solve it. But I don't think it's locked, only a few service providers in the world lock the bootloaders.
If it is I'm very sorry!

I don't know how to see that beforhand. Just try to do the flash and you should see if it works or not.
If it's fail because it's locked you will notice and then nothing will be broken.
If it's not locked you will have a successful flash, which you will see.
I have read about other Canadians installing ROMS and flashing Recovery so I think you will have success!

The Canadian W8 ROM does not have a locked bootloader. It can be rooted, custom recovery can be installed and if you want, ROMs installed.
With Xposed Framework you don't really need custom ROM. Beauty of root is that you can use titanium backup to freeze dozens of bloatware apps from samsung and others, run Xposed, run other apps that need root, fix the stupid kitkat permissions on SD card, backup your ROM etc.
Once rooted you can also use a third party kernel that supports under or over clocking, depending on your need. Custom kernel developers work hard to get you better battery life.
One thing other poster didn't mention is that when you install custom recovery it will trip Knox. Please don't ask what that is. Look it up and decide. Your warranty will be void.

Rooting from within 23.5.A.0.570 Marhsmallow discussion

Anyone know of a way to root 23.5.A.0.570 from within the ROM?
Of course you can create custom firmware with Flashtool, but is there other way?
Kingroot is useless at the moment.
Hi,
I've upgraded from Lollipop to MM yesterday, but with TFT rom, without root.
Then: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/kernel-advanced-stock-kernel-t3347413
But only works with unlocked bootloader.
I've just unlocked my bootloader and installed this kernel using ADB. But, FULL WIPE in my Z2 :'(
Don't know if was the kernel or just the fact to unlocked the bootloader.
Anyway, make a full backup

Its because of the Bootloader u unlocked.. Unlocking bootloader first time will erase ur all datas..
And there is no need to unlock ur bootloader. Simply go back to KK or LP then root it and install recovery. After that flash a pre rooted MM rom.. Simple
And i think after unlocking bootloader u have lost some Sony features.. Did u make ur TA (DRM) Key backup..??

Are you using Xposed? because after many re-flashes and reinstalls on different things, I think, that for me, few of the xposed mods were causing the loops. For example I miss the immersive mods in games etc and I simply can't get it to work correctly as it was, no matter what I try, so different xposed mods related mostly to that were causing the loops for me. I am currently reflashing at the moment

it happened to me too, tried almost 5-7 flashin via recovery from many stock lollipop n kitkat, but always get looping boot, i could get in to the language choose screen, but when i touch the screen, it will restart n always like that. but yesterday i successed flashing via recovery. what i was doin is, flash the germany generic ftf 264, then root via kingroot n recovery (i choose twrp). then use the zip MM from a thread, the back name of the zip is 1281-9709_R3D, then i flashed the 3 files for root from MM beta thread, finally i flashed bootloop fix from the same thread. then boom, get in to the boot and finished normally

[HELP] G900V-CID11 Toshiba-locked bootloader, looking for 6.0.1 ROM working

Hi all, we are all surrounded here from ROM releases, versions of phones, a moltitude of options. I can't really figure out how to find a rom which can be installed on my phone, by the time I'm waiting for an unclock for CID11.
I've now a BT1 rom sim-locked and SD-not working and I can't use my phone at all. I'm stuck here.
I've rooted it already, waiting for a proper solution.
You may kindly indicate me the steps I've to follow to install the right rom, if I've to use safestrap or chainfire.flash_0.50.apk, and if I've to flash with Odin the bootloader and with which file.
Thank you so much, please add any consideration that you can consider important!

Nah man, im just picking on you. I dont believe there are any custom mm roms for locked bootloaders so far, ressurection remix works with a lp bootloader and its 6.0.1 though. Maybe check that one out. You may have to set your apns manually. I have no real way of knowing if it works on locked bl, i flased with twrp. But if you feel like taking a risk that badly for it, i would try flashfire on pb1 bl and baseband. Good luck!

As far as I know you should always be able to flash back to at least pb1 and root. Also I myself would try flash fire instead of safestrap because I was never successful with safestrap, only flash fire. And I know the frustration of having a locked bl, as the unlock method has only been out a few months now. Good luck and I hope it works for you!
Well that didn't seem to work. Thank god for backups.

Yes thank God for backups, sorry it didn't work. Did u flash it with flash fire and move wipe to happen before flashing ROM? If you hold the wipe action and move it above the flash it will wipe before flashing, just don't wipe your internal storage that the ROM is on

Since we have a kernel made from ASUS for 4.3, 4.4 and 5.0, any AOSP ROM from these Android version will work with stock kernel and locked bootloader.

You can install AOSP from fastboot, since it's an img file. But you have to unlock bootloader to install GApps via TWRP.
After flash all you need, you can flash stock recovery back and lock the bootloader.
