There are sliders for microphone gain in the STweaks app.
Could it be a WhatsApp issue? As I see people complaining about low audio mostly with WhatsApp.
As an alternative solution, record the sound with something else (like Recordr or Smart Voice Recorder) and send it to that person via WhatsApp. It's not perfect, but it definitely has better audio quality than the WhatsApp recorder.

it's rom related.. and stweaks not working =(

Google+ Hangout Loudness

Hi guys,
I've searched this forum but could not find anything related to the issue I have. While having hangouts it's very hard to understand the other partner. The sound is just too quiet. After pressing volume+ I can see that not the soundbar of "Audio" is affected and not the "Phone" soundbar. So the output of the hangout voice is going over this Phone thing instead of the Audio.
Audio = loud enough
Phone = not even almost
What can I do to increase the volume of the "Phone" or to route hangouts over "Audio".
Thanks for your input!
have you tried an app in the market called Volume+?

Hello mate, are you talking about volume boosting sound? well if you do here http://www.mediafire.com/download/sieuji29m7oooz9/Volume_Boosting_Sound_MODERATE.zip Flash it via recovery, have a nice day
Well, it's not really a level booster i'm looking for :
My case vibrates with high tones, so i'm looking for an equalizer to get rid f that.
Is that the tread you were talking about : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470890 ?

Just wondering phone recording function still working after upgrade to Kitkat 4.4.2?

i haven't tried kitkat because there are way too many glitches and i'm really happy with 4.3.
but some developers of the apps that can record calls are putting notes that samsung has disabled 2way phone call in kitkat.. so i think answer is no.
stick to 4.3

No the sound output from the recording is just white noise. It seems to work but the recording isn't anywhere near clear
Which recorder apps are you using to record? Normally there is audio source to choose, need to select audio call instead of mic.

This thread is on about the built in call recorder; not a separate app.

In order to use build in recorder, need to root and enable in Xpose module. I am still unroot with stock ROM, I think third party apps also get the audio from the same source. So the unknown is whether the audio source unavailable or the build in recorder not functioning. Don't mind try to install third party apps such as "automatic call recorder", choose Voice Call as audio source to try out?

Sound recording bug on CM13 / AOSP MM roms

I donno if you are all aware of it, but there's a bug with sound/voice recording in cm 13 / aosp mm (maybe in cm 12 / aosp ll / gpe ll too, i didn't test it yet). When you record your voice via whatsapp / messenger / any other app that has this feature builtin, it records only with on top mic. The bottom mic is dead for this apps. Sure, in the builtin voice recording app you can change to record in wav file and that app will record as it supossed to. But in the other apps mentioned above you don't have a setting like that, so when you want to record via wapp you have to yell in the top mic so that the voice recording can be heard. You can try this for yourselves, just blow into the bottom mic then blow into the top mic using whatsapp's built-in voice recorder and listen to your record afterwards.
I'm posting this in the Q/A section because i didn't manage to fix it and i wanna know if there's someone who did (or working on it).
There is no 'low volume voice recording bug', it's just not recording with the right mic (bottom one)
Works fine for me.
I just sent myself a WhatsApp voice recording.
Not only did the bottom mic work, but it also recorded louder than the top mic.
The top mic had noticeable lower volume than the bottom mic.
Can anyone list cm13 source bugs?

Yeah, that's true, the top mic has a lower volume because is used for noise reduction while you're talking / recording (it's a simple system). What rom are you currently on? Are you using any sound mods?
I'm not the only one so I am not imagining things (see the latest posts): https://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic...ery-low-jflte-on-s4-t-mobile-sgh-m919/?page=2
https://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/123826-mic-recording-very-low-volume-whatsapp-facebook-etc/
This is the only reason i stay on tw roms.

I am using the JDCTeam ROMs.
I am also using viper4android, but I didn't increase the volume, just use it for the better sound quality.

AOSP is my daily, but I'm also a tester for the Optimized CM, so I kinda use both. And I always use open gapps Pico. Don't need all that Google crap.

Tell me what lines you edited, and to what value...

Maybe you increased the values too much? Try 87 or 88.
I'm currently using 87, with some more loudness via Viper. Sound is loud & crisp & clear...
