Hey everyone, need some help and been searching for hours for an answer. I have a rooted Galaxy s4. I have apps that are installed to my external SD through the system options and I also have used folder mount to transfer some apps to external SD. I'm guessing that these are hidden files on my external SD card. I want to swap my current 32GB card for a newer 64GB card. How can I create an exact copy of my external card? I tried copying and pasting all my contents from my external sd but it didn't transfer everything because my apps weren't there upon installing the new SD. How to I copy the entire contents of the old 32GB external SD to the new 64 GB external sd? Thanks

How did you copy them? If you plug in the phone over USB then it won't show all files on the SD card in the phone, you either have to put it in it's own USB reader or get the USB Mass Storage app to mount it

Hello
I own Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 and it is rooted. I recently purchased a class 10 Sandisk Micro SD card with 64 GB capacity. I was very happy that I did but my happiness did not last long when I have come to know that 3rd party apps do not have write permission in Kitkat. After some research I was successful to make the SD card writable to 3rd party apps by modifying the permissions.xml file.
Everything seems to be fine at this time but it was not actually. The SD card when seen under storage in settings would show me that it is mounted with 62.5 GB capacity and 60 GB free. But when I try to browse the files in SD card, there are nothing. Apps saved in SD card do not open and I am also unable to capture images from camera to SD card storage.
I thought may be unmounting the SD card and mounting it back would work and it worked but after a while the same problem. My device shows that it has mounted an SD card but cannot access anything saved in it. So, I have to unmount and mount SD card every time and this is very much annoying.
Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you for your time.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes. It is Ex FAT format. Which format should I format it to? Ex FAT or just the FAT format.
It is not about applications. The card just gets undetected after some time and nothing can be accessed including music and images. I have to unmount it and mount again for the device to detect the SD card.
Format your SD Card on your phone its self. Go to settings, storage and than SD Card and format it.

Thanks mate.. Followed your instructions... Working fine as of now.
I wanted to use the micro SD card for storing my application in Moto X Pure. But it looks like if I use the micro SD card as internal storage (which looks like is the only way I can move apps to SD card if it is mounted as Internal Storage) I cannot copy files to it from PC. When I connect it via USB to PC (formatted as internal storage) and use File Transfer option I can only see the internal phone storage and not the SD card internal storage. If I format it as internal storage I cannot access it outside of the phone since it is encrypted so that also does not work. I wanted to copy files to the SD card and also use it for my larger apps location but looks like I cannot have both Anyone has resolved this or is there another way? I do not want to use the SD card as portable drive since then I cannot move apps to the SD card i.e. do not get the option to manage storage on the apps. This is with MM.
obb to sd module, maybe its working with large obb on sd card
How do I browse the SD Card?
Don't know how I can copy files to SD card. Is there a file explorer that I can use to browse the SD card if I have formatted it to act as internal storage?

Also, my laptop does not detect my phone when connected via USB Debugging. Please help! I am not able to browse my SD card on my phone and internal storage on my laptop.

Use something like ES File Explorer App to browse the content of the SD card in the phone. When you connect the phone to your laptop, you need to look at the notifications and change the "USB For File Transfer" from "Charging only" to "Transfer Files (MTP)".
for transferring media files there is an option under Settings>Storage to move to SD Card.
I experience the same problem... It appears the microsd card is not visible to the PC for file transfer after selecting to use the sdcard as internal storage.
This means if your internal memory is full you can not copy the files over (as it stores it only in the internal memory space and it isnt smart enough to spill into the sdcard).
This is a big pain in the ass. So essentially microsd as internal memory means you cant get your pictures etc from the phone or store extra music to the phone. You are still limited to the 10gigs on the 16gig model etc.
This is a super let down...
Could you use gparted and split sd card into two partitions? Use partition1 for internal and partition2 for files/media.

Actually I just struggled figuring out how to put media on my SD card via micro USB, after combining the SD with the phone's internal memory.
Now I used the Android manager that's available for Mac. And it worked flawlessly. It doesn't show the SD card content only the entirety of storage. But I tested this buy making a folder on the internal. (Via Android manager)
Then I called it *Google play music*
I put about 14 gigs of music on the phone and went to view and monitor my storage change on the phone under settings and low and behold!
Only the SD card memory increased not the internal
So it's not a let down par se. If it works for music it'll work for anything bro.
And that's after I finished.

Ill try to use Android Manager to manage this and i iwll let you know if it works. Its crappy that i need a third party software to manage what worked without issue before, but it is better than nothing. Thank you.
Hello, Now I don't really know what's going on cause i'm going crazy with this phone, eveytime I inserted sd card it asked the partition card and internal sd card and when I chose the external ones I have no idea why it doesn't read my sd card like for example I wanna transfer my file via airdroid or wanna restore an app via Titanium backup or play an NDS game it just read only the internal storage even though it shows on ES file explore (I tried the internal ones and it format my SD card, and S did put all the files back in place but it didn't help, the es file explore in photo was before I put my files back, by the way), my phone just doesn't read my sd card, it's like it just work as a one way storage, when I was using a Sony, this doesn't happens what so ever.
Does anyone knows how to fix this problem of mine, please help me. I took some pictures to make proves :crying::crying:
I'm terribly sorry for my English, English is not my primary language.

In titanium backup, open the preferences menu then choose backup folder location. Choose Storage provider (click to change). Then pick DocumentProvider storage, select the SD card on the left menu then press Select at the bottom right corner
go to settings>>storage>>click on external sdcard>>top corner 3dots>>settings>> format
then move media to sdcard.
Your SD card is showing in the file manager. You've 32gb sd card right? "FD89-1CE6" is your sd card. For titanium backup you need go to TB settings and set the backup directory to SD CARD ( FD89-1CE6)

Yeah, Thank you very much, i just did it last night, kinda having trouble with the superSU at first though, I tried to patched Titanium Backup on lucky patcher and it kept saying that I need to root my device, so i had to reflash superSU again. Thank god it went through. Now I having trouble with the internal SD card, I couldn't get it my play store to install app to my sd card or to re-direct my app to read file in my Sd card, for example I installed Chaos ring 3, I had to move all the file from my sd card to internal, it's knilling my internal storage TT^TT . Does anyone have a solution for that, please let me know.... I think everybody have the same problem though, does anyone know how to fix this solution? :crying::crying:
Thank you

In Android 6.0, once you format ur external sd card as internal it becomes a part of ur internal memory and functions as internal one(the external SD card won't show up in file managers). Hence the phone decides where your app is installed either the real internal memory or the now formatted SD card working as internal memory.
If you don't format it as internal memory. The apps won't install on external SD card and you can't move the apps to external SD card.

No you can't coz the data on your sd card will be encripted n you won't be able to read it on your computer via card reader. I'd suggest you to keep your sd card as "portable device" if you want to transfer data via card reader.

Hello everyone, I would like to extend my internal storage. I am using Android M on my XT1562.
I tried to use my SD card has an internal storage but unfortunately it stops formatting at 30%. After a reboot the SD card is shown as internal storage but if I open ES file explorer for example the storage capacity is still 10gb (which is the capacity of the internal storage). So I will have to use it as an external storage as before.
Is there any option to change for example the download folder/the install folder for new apps to the external SD card? Or do I need to root the phone?
Another question is if I could use my SD card as internal storage how about transferring files to my PC? How does that work?

Once you format your SD card as internal storage, it can not be seen in any file manager. Also it cannot be seen on pc. Although you can move data through settings which shows your internal and SD card storage but you can only view it through by going to settings.
You cannot the change the location of apps to be installed in Android 6.0
Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
Once you have set the SD card to internal any apps that you install that could previously be moved to the SD card will install to the SD card, any apps that could not be previously install to the SD card will install on the internal memory.
