A8 IMEI Missing - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have a Galaxy A8 (SM-A800F), bought from India.
According to my dad, he left the phone to download & update over night, but in the morning the phone was off, as battery was drained off. But when the phone was switched on, it stopped receiving network signal & does not show any IMEI number. I did a factory reset from recovery but that too didn't help.
Screenshot is attached
Any help would be appreciated

Maybe just a bad install because the battery died, install the stock firmware again.

I'm trying to do that but wherever I'm finding the files, download speed is limited & downloading fails after 30min or so
My father gave it to service centre once, they told that they re installed the firmware(as claimed by them). The phone worked well for 3 days, then again same thing

Loss of imei and baseband usually means a corrupt EFS partition.
The EFS partition does contain a backup, but if that got wiped also then there is no way to restore it.
You will need root and a root file explorer for this.
If you delete the EFS folder it will give you a default imei.
However before doing anything it is important to backup the EFS first.
You can do this with twrp or just copy and paste the EFS folder to the sdcard.
The EFS folder contains nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5.
Delete these and it will be replaced by the backup after reboot.
If that doesn't work try deleting the whole folder (after making a backup) then reboot.

Unless the hardware is broken you can always reflash the phone, even if 3 button download mode is not working.
Does the phone give you the option to search for networks? I had the problem you describe whenever I was going roaming and I would come off the flight safe mode. The phone would not connect to the network until I restarted it.

i don't understand you what do you mean by "Does the phone give you the option to search for networks?" but the wifi work perfect on my phone
if you type *#06# does the imei show ok? if not it could be a corrupt nvdata.bin file. If you delete nvdata.bin and nvdata.md5 file it will reload them from the nvdata.bak files but do this only as a last resort.
Edit: Back them up first mind.
I'd just reflash if I were you, you can use it as an opportunity to load a newer firmware if you're not already using a new one, JPM is working great for me. I'd advise using Titanium to backup your contacts, accounts, wifi access points, launcher layout, etc, etc, first though. You should be able to restore the entire look and feel of your phone then, not to mention all the app data, etc.

This very same thing happened to me as well. This is because your IMEI is gone or is invalid.
Networks detects your IMEI so when you don't have one, they won't give you permission to their signal.
I didn't backed up my EFS folder before this happened.
Luckily, SGS Toolbox did make a back-up of my nvdata.bin when I checked for my product code before I screwed up my IMEI and I just replaced the corrupted EFS folder files with whatever SGS toolbox backed up to fix the issue (whew!)
I don't think you can fix this on your own unless you backed up your EFS folder before having this issue.
Try to follow the other user's suggestiong to delete the two files and reboot ]but ENSURE that you back up your EFS folder. I suggest creating 2 back up files. 1 in your PC and 1 in your phone's SD.
Note: Flashing will not solve this. Since ODIN does not touch your IMEI. If its' invalid, it will stay invalid regardless of how many flash you make.

Hold on, a Galaxy S must be within it's warranty period, it's a recent product. If you have a faulty product, it's Samsung's responsibility to honour their parts warranty. I would have gone mad if Samsung had asked me for $300 for something that is their responsibility. Call them again and request a repair under warranty.

IMEI Unknown, Base-band Unknown, Please Insert SIM card

Hi everyone. I know this problem is well known, and Ive done hours and hours of search online and on XDA but none of the solutions worked or maybe i didnt do it right!
The problem, My friend have flashed a Custom frimware (Litning 6) and lost his IMEI and Baseband some how, they tell Unknown, and now he cant access his SIM or network, the phone doesnt really see the SIM at all.
Ive tried to use Chainfires APK to fix it didnt work, and the Hex stuff really made me dizzy out. didnt know how to use it really.
Ive tried to recover to EFS stuff but i think his EFS is trashed and he didnt back it up..
Tried flashing 2.3.3 stock rom and 2.3.4 no luck. still no baseband or IMEI..
Any suggestions? im out of luck and depressed
Why are you out of luck and depressed if its your friends phone?
If you dont know and understand how to recover these details I would say flash to a stock rom and take phone into a SSC and let them repair it for you.
Same thing happened to me, the phone eventually showed firmware emergency error so I just gave it to samsung service centre, they replaced the logic board etc and got it back 3 weeks later

Ive checked the links. i think noth bin and .bak files are bad. cuz he already tried messin with them.. XD need new nv_data
you said that he LOST his IMEI.If thats true, and by using a root explorer with root access you can look inside the efs file or mark *#06# and see if nothing comes up,then without a backup theres no way you will get the original back without sending it away to the service centre(personal experience) but when it come back heres a good backup method.Easy as to backup and restore.

Basicly his SGS2 is not even capable of bring a paper weight cuz its too light (100g) lool.. what a bummer... ill try to find a shop to fix it with a box or something,, thanks all!
If you check your nvdata.bin and md5 you will see that, they modified the same day you lost your imei. So you have to return back to those baks and I don't think you can use another device's efs since your imei is hidden in that file.

do same like after solution 1 (*#06#) work on phone if you get good answer click cancel if not continue for starting last solution if it's not work too, believe me fellas check for hardware fault
Somehow this has happened to my phone, it is not even rooted, I flashed a newer firmware because I'm with bell mobility and they are still on 2.3.3, but that was over a month ago and just yesterday my phone stopped reading my sim card, and the IMEI and baseband are unknown.. I've tried a factory reset and to reflash the firmware, but it is still not working..
Now I cannot find the stock bell mobility firmware either to send it back..
has anyone figured out how to fix this problem? Or what could have caused it in my case?
looks like the service centre is the only option. Best to back up the EFS before tinkering with anything.
my GT-I9100 does this when I let it completely run out of battery power. I've only noticed it since flashing the ICS leaks but this may have been a problem before and I've not noticed.
When I plug the phone into the charger and start it up *#06# IMEI shows as unknown and *#1234# shows unknown modem, I have a small airplane mode symbol and occasionally, a no sim card error.
To fix this I have to let it take a charge for a while with the phone on - then reboot WITHOUT the charger cable plugged in. I probably have some kind of hardware fault but its not that important to me. I have an EFS backup, well I have a few backups here and there
happened to me a few days ago

[GUIDE]No BASEBAND version, NO signal, CANT call, etc...

Hi everyone, I made something funny that worked today
Scenario is the phone has no IMEI, no BASEBAND, cant enter the service code *#*#197328640#*#*, can’t call and gives force close, and in short the phone is useless. HAHAHA lol.
The history of the phone is HARD BRICKED after my big brother flashed a kernel onto this phone after upgrading to 4.0.4. he wiped user data and along with the EMMC file, it became unresponsive and doesn’t turn on anymore.
I had it recovered using MEDUSA box and after I got the BOOT/DOWNLOAD mode. I flashed a firmware with DXxx.xxx baseband. im so glad that the phone was completely working again, ALMOST hahaha. When I inserted my stupid SIM, it doesn’t want to pick up signal an found out that there is no BASEBAND version as I checked it on about phone, or dialing *#1234#
I have done some research and I knew that I is gonna be the RIFF box again that will fix this thing. What am I gonna do to a phone that doesn’t pick up signal at all. I flashed it over and over again even the MODEM alone but still no luck.
Things that I have done to have it work though with a wrong IMEI
1. Root the phone
2. Installed SGII repair
3. Backed up the efs folder (either using ROOTexplorer/the SGSII repair app)
4. Downloaded the EFS pro
5. Downloaded the .NET framework 4.0
I tried repairing the EFS using the GSII repair but still no good after reboot, and used the the EFS pro to repair it but still no good. After rebooting couple of times I don’t have signal.
Imma make this short now
1. Root your device using whatever method u can use
2. Install root explorer and copy EFS folder to your internal SD card then paste it somewhere on your computer. (name it as ORIGINAL EFS)
3. Now use the SGSII repair (download it in app market)
4. Use the repair method then back up the repaired EFS folder on save/restore option (REPAIRED by SGSII repair app)
5. Paste the .tar file to your PC/Laptop and extract it and name the EFS folder as repaired EFS folder
6. Use the EFS pro and click on format the EFS folder. (make sure before doing this, you have repaired the EFS and BACKED UP the repaired EFS using the SGSII app)
7. Connect your phone to your pc and mount the storage to your PC/Laptop
8. Copy the extracted file you have backed up on number 5 (using winrar)
9. Copy the content of the extracted repaired EFS by the SGSII repair app to the ROOT EFS folder of your phone.
10. Then click the Repair NV data / Attempt NV recovery
11. If that did not work just reboot the phone first and do the number 10
12. Reboot again the phone
13. Once rebooted the phone will then have the icon of w/out sim, has baseband, and once you inserted the sim it will then have coverage to your carrier
14. Do it with a little bit of luck
Enjoy your phone with wrong IMEI and the screenshots I have put on this thread are, after I have done everything but previously it doesn’t show the BASEBAND version and everything. but after i have done THESE steps, it suddenly displayed the baseband version and i had signal
I tried doing this but it has just gone with the no baseband version again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
These steps worked for me and I have a working phone with wrong IMEI.
Worked for me :highfive:
Any helpfull steps / posts / links that would completely recover the ORIGINAL IMEI would be gladly appreciated

A phone with wrong IMEI will be blocked in 2 days in my country
I accidentaly flashed in a i9100G ROM on my i9100 (regular one, no NFC and nothing extra), not even an unlocked one, and i lost all my phone thingys.
But i am a bit nerdie, so i searched for my problem here, and discovered that flashing an 9100G modem is a really bad idea, so i decided to flash an LP7 MODEM/RIL back and evrything went to normal (at least in my case)

Network Connection Error

Alright, so I paid cellunlocker to unlock a new to me Note 3. Not blacklisted, everythings good on that end.
my IMEI shows as the correct number with two extra digits - not sure if thats my issue.
However I cannot connect to any mobile network. Well thats not true, I can see I'm connected to their tower but cannot get any phone calls, texts I just get the message on the screen.
I didn't back up my EFS partition, having 6 android phones so far all, rommed, and everything I never had to do that.
I understand its likely that this partition is messed up.
.. So how can I restore it?
I'm rooted, I'll install a recovery I don't mind any of that. however I do not have a backup of my EFS partition. Is there any way to extract this from a stock file?
Can I just use Kies or something to flash the entire software and restore this partition?
Seeking some guidance from the Note Experts.
Thanks,

- The extra 2 digits after the IMEI is the IMEISV. It is not the issue.
- The EFS partition is store inside your device, not in the stock firmware. Of course you can not extract it from the stock files.
- You can try to flash the entire stock firmware (using Kies or Odin). Sometime that may help to fix the problem.
Appears to be a case of delayed blacklist or something.
Didn't show up in any searches and not to my carrier, yet later now it does appear it is.
Now to return it to the carrier so they can get it back to the owner, and to track down the ass I bought it from.

[Q] Back from repair, IMEI restored, but empty efs and wifi reboots the phone?

I lost efs together with imei last week when I tried to flash a different modem. Running out of options I sent the phone to a repairer.
Today, after one week, I picked it up from them and they somehow got the imei back and the phone is working while I was still at their office.
Now I'm home and tried to connect it to my home's wifi, as soon as it connects, the phone reboots. It's very stable on mobile data though.
I cleared data, flashed different roms, but wifi connection always reboots it.
Then I looked in the efs folder and surprise, it's empty!!! I don't know whether that's the cause of the wifi problem, but isn't it odd that the phone runs ok otherwise without efs?
Anybody has any idea of what's happening to my phone? Can my wifi problem be fixed?
I do actually have an efs backup that I've done back in January. But I just can't remember what tool I used to make that file. The file name is "efs.img". Any suggestion at all?
