LG G3 - Cracked Digitizer / Touch screen - Tips & Tricks - G3 General

I had a crack on my digitizer / touch screen on my LG G3 but it was not large enough to damage it entirely. I ordered a new assembly but it took forever to arrive as the model (D858HK) was not available locally in my area and had to shipped from China. Here are some useful tips if you face a similar situation and you need some time before you can get the mobile repaired:
1. With a USB OTG cable, the mouse works! Even a wireless adapter that connects to mouse and keyboard works (....I was using these with my desktop)!
2. With bluetooth pairing, you can have a keyboard and mouse from an app installed on another mobile (I used Blackberry).
3. LG Keyboard app has a one handed operation that shifts the keyboard to either right or left of the screen. If you activate that, then the keyboard can shift to one side of the screen where touch still works.
4. Latest versions of TWRP can also handle USB mouse and are a big relief for taking backups before sending over the mobile to a repair shop.
5. Rotation Control app can enable rotation to all angles and even for apps that do not otherwise permit rotation.
6. If you do not have a mouse handy and want to take a TWRP backup, then Flashify can come in handy. Read up on openrecovery scripting that can be handled by TWRP.
7. If you are rooted with xposed and tweaksbox installed, then you can crowd the navigation bar with additional buttons such that the 3 must have buttons are at a place where touch screen works. Even otherwise, navigation bar can take up to 5 buttons.
8. If you want to use the 4G capabilities of the mobile with other phones, you can try bluetooth or wi-fi tethering. While bluetooth tethering does not consume too much power, wifi tethering can be power hungry. A way to get around that is to use Automate app and set rules there, which help you automate the wifi hotspot and switch it off later according to requirement (fixed intervals, when another device connects on bluetooth, when a notification arrives etc etc).
9. Keep MTP enabled and learn to use ADB.
10. Use a bluetooth headset to receive calls.
11. Use T-Action to receive calls and gesture settings to turn down volume / ignore calls.
12. Activating auto correct for keyboards can also help.
...maybe some more and I will add these later as they come to mind.
But hope you never face this problem. Cheers,

Couldn't have said it better, I'm stuck using a mouse for now also-battery life is horrible using a usb mouse though

Bluetooth mouse delivers much better battery life. But then, I had to use mouse for some very specific purposes as 80% of touch screen was working for me.

Yeah i left the few Bluetooth mice I had at my dad's house only to realize he lost all the usb receiver pieces... Time to get a new one as only half the left side about a half inch in and sometimes the bottom works if I'm patient...

But with a Bluetooth mouse and an android phone that has Bluetooth, why would you need a receiver? They should be able to connect directly on Bluetooth.

Using PPC for wireless or wired mouse on laptop

Is there software out there that will let you use your ppc as a mouse on your laptop? If not would it be possible to do have such an app that could use the touch screen as a mouse? Or better yet, would it be possible to use the camera on the ppc as sort of a laser mouse? Also could it be used over bluetooth and or USB? Then set up parts of the screen as left and right click buttons with a scroll area.
Just a thought.
JD
not laser i think you mean optical mouse
problem is that optical mice have a dieode to give it
light so it can detect the movements
if you just put your phone on the back
all it will photo is darkness
yes, im current use Salling Clicker to control my PC via Wifi, it have some plugins to control WMP, BSPlayer, and the default system controls are mouse (touch the screen to move the cursor), shutdown, restart work great!
good luck
Sorry, yes it is optical. When I was thinking of this I flipped my mouse over and that darn light shot right in my eye. From that point on all I could think about was LASER's LOL. Going to give Salling Clicker a try, looks very promising although it would be cool to be able to use my phone as an OPTICAL mouse using the camera. And your right with the camera flat on a surface all you see is black, but with the flashlight on and the camera raised slightly off the serface you would be able to detect motion.
Still just thinking out loud.

Not yet - albeit, for the Smartphone platform, there are some attempts to implement this (see http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...e news: new betas of SmartToolkit and IM+ etc ). It certainly will be MUCH worse (if it will be implemented at all) than the hardware accelerometer-based solutions (see for example Nokia N95), though.
the PPC wifi or bluetooth mouse would be cool! on the wizard the flash diode could supply the light to the camera. I've wanted this ever since I tried PPCtablet.
I can already use my Wizard as a webcam using coolcam. To be able to use it as a mouse would really rock. the ultimate laptop accessory!

[Q] Help: Adding bluetooth mouse to Nexus 7 with broken touchscreen

I have a Nexus 7 tablet and a few days ago I noticed the screen glass seemed to be popping up out of the plastic a little, I tried to push it back down and the glass panel on the screen cracked along the edge.
The tablet still works fine but will not accept input from the touchscreen, I plan to replace the screen since I know they're glued to the glass panel, but until I can locate a replacement screen panel I'd like to use my tablet with an apple magic mouse.
I know it's possible to pair a magic mouse with the tablet, my question is how can I do this without being able to use the touchscreen?
Also if anyone has a source that sells the replacement screen+glass it would be much appreciated, I can't seem to find any that have it in stock.
My tablet is unlocked and rooted, running a custom kernel and stock JB.
Well I managed to add my bluetooth device, posting here in case someone else needs the information.
I used a USB OTG cable to plug in a wireless receiver for a logitech mouse/KB combo and it was immediately recognized by the tablet, so I used that to configure the bluetooth.
It can also be done by modifying the bluetooth configuration directly using ADB, but only if USB debugging is enabled. (Flashing a pre-modified bluetooth config might also work, but I haven't tried)

[Q] Bluetooth Mouse on the N4 ?

I have not been able to connect an older Think Outside BT mouse to the N4. The mouse connects to the laptop. I have attempted the discovery several times and the N4 will not see the mouse.
Works
Odd, the phone was not restarted, everything the same, and this time paired the first time.
This may become a car mouse. The mouse wheel switches between home screens. Now if I could figure out how program the mouse wheel to flip through 3 or 4 selected or open apps it would be the Jetsons.
"You can use GMD Gesture Control to swipe between apps."-joshnichols189
This has been the best suggestion so far. There is something I find disorienting when using tiny touch controls for Mort, GPS, and a few others, while mounted on the dash and going down the highway. The car mouse rocked for the 2215 and the Axim.
Why would you want to use a PC mouse on a phone ? If it was a tablet then it's understandable. It's just redundant...

External Monitor. Have not done this yet.
I have a desk with two levels, top level the N4 sits in an Griffin Arrowhead stand in front of the monitor. I see over the N4 just enough to see all of the monitor. Using the mouse gives me an unobstructed view, it is fast, and comfortable, for some task.
I have a mouse pad that I made for the car that has a slight lip and was used with my PPCs. The N4 provides navigation. entertainment, and communications and is in a vent mount. I am really bad at using the N4 while driving and I think it to be dangerous (for me). Not all finger friendly buttons are the same, some are hard to use on the road. I have failed to find a fast and easy to use task switcher as I am not sure I will root. I would like to make the mouse wheel switch between 3 or 4 apps. The car mouse allows me to use devices like the N4 ( mostly my Axim in the past) without altering my driving position.
I do miss the Axim's many hardware, mappable, indestructible, buttons. The Axim had 2 memory card slots. Back then we wanted USB OTG support so bad. My Imagio and it's buttons was a POS. Sometimes I think the N4 is a sidestep in the right direction. The biggest plus for these pretty, fragile devices is the OS, Android is greatness, Winmo was fun but at the same time hell hell.
i've tried a speedlink snappy BT mouse with no luck.
It's discovered and it pairs etc. but no cursor or response to movement/ buttons.
The same mouse works fine on my Dell laptop and a Blackberry Playbook.

My first day with my MOJO... and a few tips to get up to speed fast.

OK so out of the box this thing looks great, packaging included.
Setting it up was straight forward. HDMI to my 55" LG 240hz. Just had to dig out a spare cat5 and pop it in. Batteries in the CTRLR, dongle in the USB 2.0 port. Phone clip stashed for future use. Brought power to the MOJO and sparked it up, and just as I feared... uh.. wait.. actually it started up flawlessly, audio and video came over lovely with a beautiful smooth boot.
So far so good.
Next I used the CTRLR to perform the basic setup. TIP #1 (use mouse and keyboard for this). I didn't have an issue just took more time than it had too putting in a bunch of text via point and click. Even so, no problem to sync my google account and arrange the normal "phone" settings.
So far so good, and it doesn't even hiccup.
Apps and such, I need to navigate the new feeling of the mouse mode and android interface. TIP #2 (took a bit to understand how the left stick acts like the mouse and the A button acts like your finger pressing, so to swipe you press A then swipe stick! also when navigating screens use the right stick to scroll up and down as long as you have the curser over the section you want to scroll) I click on the MadCatz logo (claw marks), its the orientation app, follow it step by step. works like a dream, and thanks for adding that it gave me a great start. TIP #3 (follow all of the suggested actions in the slideshow). This will help you get basic apps that make the functionality of the MOJO start to feel like a workable system.
So far so good,
I want to test the sound and graphics, so I load up Dead Trigger 2 (you'll be able to DL it inside of the presentation) and man it looks sweet! I'm really impressed that this lil box can pump out those shaders and reflections at that resolution without straining.. I'm not a console FPS guy but have to say it looked great... TIP #4 (switch your CTRLR mode button from mouse mode to the right PC mode to be able to interact in Dead Trigger)
So far so good, but but but....
I want to get some apps, specifically apps that I bought the MOJO for as my media center (among other things). So you'll soon find you cannot DL most apps as the developers haven't added MOJO as a supported device, so you wont even have an option to try it out. This will not do as I am not going to wait for them to add support to get to enjoy this thing.
TIP #5 downloading and side loading apps till you can ROOT and modify the ro. to act like a supported device to fake out the app store (till they get off their ass and support this thing).
1. On your pc go to the android market and find the app you want, copy the address bar.
2. go to (im new to the forum so they wont let me show the url, but just look up APK-Downloader from evozi) paste the google play URL into the text box and click the "generate dl link" button.
3. It will save the app package as a .zip file, you will need to change the file extension from .zip to .apk and save it on a USB flash drive.
4. Pop the USB flash drive into the USB 3.0 port of your MOJO
5. Go to the security settings in the MOJO and uncheck the restriction on installing apps that are from unknown sources.
6. Open up ES File Manager app (if you followed TIP #3 this will be installed already) and find Local on the left, click that, then scroll down to USB, and click that.
7. Find the file you DL and saved as .apk and click it. It will install (everything I installed this way works perfectly, I can only speak from my experience but so far no duds, THOUGH I HAD A FAIL ON AN APP I DID NOT PURCHASE *still working on how to buy an app to gain access without being able to have that option to purchase on the market place, I think I will have to root and change my device description to a supported device but all of these steps are to avoid having to root for now*)
After this now I sit back and enjoy, I just wanted to help out anyone else that might be new to the MOJO.
So far so good, I have all the apps I bought the MOJO for and woohoo! Thanks for this MadCatz. I'm impressed. Now I just need to send some emails to the developers to update their apps.

oh and..
Almost forgot! NVIDIA TEGRAZONE has tons of compatible apps/games for this thing that look awesome, for those of you were are waiting for content to consider the MOJO... it's here!

Hey my pleasure.
As I progress there are a few more things I have found.
I just purchased two keyboards to test out: (note: I would have tried out MADCATZ gamesmart stuff if they were available in store but it was an impulse decision)
I bought a HP Bluetooth keyboard K4000
Pros - only 29.99, no need for dongle with Bluetooth, super small, has power button so you can turn your MOJO off and on (never thought I would get excited about something like that but hey) and feels sturdy. Can also use the FN keys to turn off the MOJO and handle all the multimedia stuff, lovely.
Cons - Will need a mouse or separate touch pad, or will have to use the CTRLR in conjunction, not horrible but..
Also I picked up a Logitech Wireless All-In-One Keyboard tk820
Pros - It has a touch pad built in but not a ghetto one, it's real slick on the right side nice and big, stylish, heavy enough that when you have it on your lap and you use the touch pad it doesn't slide off. For most activities you wont need anything else since you can track with touch pad and type with keyboard. Can also use the FN keys to turn off the MOJO and handle all the multimedia stuff, lovely.
Cons - It is pricey at BestBuy 69.99. You will have to use up a USB slot for the dongle (Logitech unified devices). The touch pad doesn't work for the real interactive games, only the basic ones. Touch pad doesn't quit feel like you are working on the surface of a phone/screen.. would be cool.
Lastly I have plugged in several mice and all have worked well, but I tested my first straight BLUETOOTH mouse.
the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse t630
Connected and functions as designed.. very slim blue tooth no dongle needed.
For ****s n gigs I plugged in my Razer Nostromo, it appears to function fine. hmm need further testing.
Turns out the CTRLR needs the dongle for MOJO but not other BLUETOOTH devices... interesting.
Gonna keep them all for a bit and test em out further. Do not see a compatibility issue with any input devices as of yet.
What's apps did u side load?
@XexisKhan thanks again
RE keyboards, did all keys map correctly?
My BT mini keyboard with mouse touch pad works for alph-numeric keys but I notice the android virtual keyboard keeps coming up and I can't use the backspace nor enter keys, strange becuase it works fine in windows and linux.
My FN keys don't turn off my mojo lol

The issue there (from what I experienced) is that the on-screen keyboard is set to default. Set your BT keyboard as the default and you won't have the other pop up. As soon as you disconnect the BT, the on-screen goes back to default.

Thanks for the reply, I turned everything off in langauges but it still shows, not sure where to se the default keyboard.. my tablet running 4.0.4 has the same settings and does it automatically.
The keyboard mapping works just by escaping out of the virtual keyboard, so that's good enough for me
edit: @XexisKhan
Thanks, I'll look into External Keyboard Helper Pro.

Stock mojo works with BT2 (needing the USB dongle), CM12 newer BT Smart (no dongle required)
I have no idea what other gamepads use but if it's BT it will pair to mojo
I plan to buy Mojo these days, there is an offer in my country (Greece) for 89€
1. Anyone knows what's the latest official version of Mojo? I can't find anything on internet about that. Its still 4.2???
2. I will be able to run 1080p on Kodi without probs? I saw also an update that came out on June 2014 that promised 4k capabilities, is that also available?
3. Anyone knows if Football Manager 2016 Touch is supported for Mojo? It says that it run in Nvidia Shield, that i assume its the same thing, just to be sure.
I post here, as it seemed more related to start a new thread, if its not np i can start a new thread - ty in advance

Think so. Someone recently posted that they received word from the folks at Mad Catz stating they stopped working on the project. Never tried Kodi on it, but I know for a fact you can use 1080p.
Ended up selling my MOJO just a over month ago though. It had such a huge potential

I have sent also a ticket to Mad Catz with the same question, i will respond back when i will have news. But in the meantime, i can't understand why people abandon this device. It plays 1080p movies and 4K (so Kodi is used at its best here), and also you take a awesome controller which can be used with games in the tv. Ok not anything spectacular (we have pc for that) but some nice games at least. Also you take a traveler clip where you can have your smartphone on the controller and the specs of mojo itself, if there is a capable rom creator, let you have new version of Android in the future easily.
Its very sad that i see that very few people are using the device and making roms. I bought it for 70 euro and i believe its better than most rk media players out there.

Hey, you can plug a mouse but with the controller itself it has an integrated mouse "mode" that behave like a mouse so it's not so needed. If you please tell me exact what apps you are looking for, and i will test them later today to report back.

For me, the main problem is that 4.2.2 doesn't have so much compatibility with the apps in playstore. (even if i manage to spoof the device). It would be nice to have at least Lollipop

Nah, it doesn't support Amazon video, primary reason why I sold it.
Well, rumors first spread Mad Catz was bringing new update and support Android TV.... As of now, nothing!
The controller is great, hardware is great, no doubt about it. But the lack of future official updates makes it another unused sitting console next to the TV. If something happens, I will probably buy it again (and I made a profit selling it though!).

Z5 not detecting DS4 with OTG cable

I tried my Dualshock 4 with my brother's One M8 and it worked perfectly with an OTG cable. On my Z5, I get the phone to detect from connectivity it at which point the lightbar becomes a solid colour instead of blinking but no input is detected.
Any solutions?

+1 - Because the Sony now has external exposed usb port, they can't power it continuously otherwise you would have issues if it got wet.
In the settings, device connection, right down the bottom is USB connectivity, select this. Note you can also add this to your quick settings by clicking the edit icon in the quick settings, and add detect USB device.
I got caught out with this on my DSLR controlling app, until I did a searches
Yeah tried going into USB connectivity and as mentioned, the lightbar goes from flashing blue to solid amber. However no input is being registered.
My controller connects via Bluetooth. Have you tried that?
Sent from my Xperia z5 using Tapatalk
Try the Bluetooth option. It worked for me. Switching Bluetooth on on your phone and then hold down the "Share" button and the "PS" button on your controller. That puts it in to discovery mode. Your phone should find it.

The reason I got the OTG cable was because input lag made playing games difficult. Either way I tried connecting via Bluetooh first and then discovering the USB connection, however my phone just instead charges the DS4. When I turn Bluetooth off, there is no longer any input and the colour changes from dark blue to amber.

There's an app on the Play Store called Sixaxis Controller. If I remember right, it installs drivers on your phone which mimic the controls of a DS4. Not ideal, but at least it works.
Sent from my E6653 using XDA Free mobile app
I'll try the app, I'm not too fussed if I still have all my buttons working. More importantly how likely is the cable at fault? Again it worked perfectly on my little brother's M8.
Isn't the sixaxis controller required rooted device??
